How are you? Yes, this medication has been associated with sleep disturbances, nightmares and vivid dreaming Many medications do have such an effect, because they can cause REM onset latency. Have you discussed the issue with your doctor? You may be able to switch to a different one that doesn't cause such a problem for you.

on simvastatin, would like to try Livalo. Since I have no side effects from simvastatin, would I be allergic to Livalo, or is the formulary the same only that it is obsorbed through the kidney? Would I be more likely to be ok changing to Livalo? ## Hello, Roz! How are you? What you're talking about wouldn't be an allergy, but yes, you could experience side effects from a different one. Why do you want to switch, if your current medication is working for you? What has your doctor suggested?

I've been on 10 mg Simvastatin for 3 months. It was prescribed after a TIA landed me in the ER one evening. Extensive testing was done including the CT, Echo, and others. ALL were totally normal. I figured from the get go that my extreme stress level (an easy 25) was the culprit. My cholesterol was 220 and that set off alarm buttons. It has been 240 for years so I wasn't in the least bit concerned. Other things were prescribed on my chart including coumadin which I refused. I take vitamins & minerals (fish oil, flax oil, D3, SE, CA, and others) daily and have for years. Reluctantly I agreed to try the simvastatin 10 mg for 60 days. First lab work showed cholesterol at 178 and I said enough. Realizing I'd have to back off a little slowly, I'm now taking 5 mg for 30 da...

Cannot raise her arms, walks only one mile a day and feels tired. She is going to as for a blood test but has anyone heard of side effects of coming off stations? Will this pass? Any suggestions re help? This could be PMR ..... Any advice really appreciated. ## Hello, Clare! How is you mother doing? It's difficult to say what may be causing the problem, it could be PMR, or something else. Has she consulted her doctor, yet? At her age, you really shouldn't just let this go, it needs to be checked out.

WHAT IS THIS MED.FOR ## Hello, Ann! How are you? Simvastatin is used to help lower cholesterol, most people are more familiar with it by the brand name Zocor. Learn more Simvastatin details here. Side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache and joint/muscle aches. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Ann, If you need medication to lower your cholesterol, please think about what I am writing to you. Another serious side effect of Simvastatin and ALL "statins" are that these medications can raise your liver enzymes. I took Simvastatin for 6 months, and then went for blood work that is required by my Psychiatrist because I take Lamictal, and it can also raise your liver enzymes. My liver enzyme level was 346, when it is supposed to be 40 or under. I never had raised l...

What exactly is the harm or danger if I were to reduce my daily Simvastatin dosage from 10 to 5 mg? I have been taking it for several years. I am 80. My total cholesterol is 156; LDL 64 and HDL 39 at last reading a year ago. I have recently lost 17 pounds -184 to 167- through eating less and healthily, and daily exercise. I feel fine. ## Hello, Billy! How are you? Way to go on taking care of your health!!! You should double check with your doctor, before reducing the dosage, but there shouldn't really be any harm in it. The problem usually arises if someone just stops taking it abruptly, because that can cause a rebound effect that may elevate their cholesterol levels too much. Learn more Simvastatin details here. What are the consequences of taking simvastatin after its expiration date? ## It will be less effective than it was, when it was new. However, it isn't listed as a medication that gets dangerous past the expiration date, but you should double check that with your doctor, or pharmacist to be certain. My husband takes Accord simvastatin 40 but he has been told by Lloyds pharmacist that these are no longer available. Accord are the only ones that do not cause "cramping" in his legs. Have they been withdrawn or are they still available? The present ones he is using are TEVA ,made in Hungary, which cause a "hangover" type headache in the mornings. ## Hi Pamela, I'm having trouble finding any information in regards to Accord Simvastatin being withdrawn from the market. Maybe it just isn't available at that specific pharmacy, have you tried calling other pharmacies in the area to see if they carry it? I'm sorry that the ones from TEVA cause problems, I wish I knew how to help. Has your husband made any changes to his diet or exercise routine to help lower chole...

oblong tablet which is orange with only a B marking on one side ## Have found an orange coloured oblong tablet with only a B marking on one side, please tell me what it is. ## Hi Millie, B is a pretty vague imprint..but I have found a possible match. The pill I've located is Simvastatin (20 mg); which comes as an oval orange pill with the imprint B 302 lightly engraved on the front and 20 on the back. It's very possible that there were other imprints that got rubbed off at some point..where is the B imprint on your pill? Is it centered or on the left or right side? If this isn't your pill, I can run a another search... What is the difference, besides appearance, between simvastatin 20 mg drl and simvastatin? I just refilled a prescription of the drl. It is small, round and brown. The new simvastatin prescription is small, oval and sort of orange/tan. ## In this case, it is highly likely that they were just manufactured by a different company. I can't say with certainty, since the poster didn't provide the markings from the tablets they mentioned, but if the dosage is the same, that's usually the first thing that confuses many people. Each manufacturer has to use different markings on their tablets, to enable them to be identified in case of emergency. The shape and color of pills is purely up to their whit and whim. does coQ10 help with the itching? ## Because itching is listed as a "serious" side effect of Simvastatin on government webpages, it is recommend that you contact your doctor immediately as opposed to using other means of controlling the itching. Ref: nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/meds/a692030.html#side-effects It could be due to a serious allergic reaction; in which case you'd essentially have to stop taking what's causing the reaction in the first place before noticing any results. NOTE: The MayoClinic also states that Coenzyme Q10 may cause rashes and itching of the skin in some people taking the supplement. That said, it's possible that this may not even be a good option after all. I hope this info helps to answer your question!

I used to look at a word and the spelling looked either correct or not. Now often I cannot recognise if a word is correctly spelt by looking at the spelling. I have discussed this with my UK GP and come off the drug and this problem appears to have improved after just a few days. I've Googled this problem and cannot find anything. Anybody in the USA experienced this problem please? Stewart. ## I haven't seen any reports of such issues, but it's hard to say how any medication may affect any particular person that takes it and I really wouldn't be surprised at much of anything from the Statin class of drugs.
