For about three years there was a "hell" for me to walk because of the side effects from Simvastatin. Got from my doctor in 2008 prescription on Simvastatin, one 10 mg pill / day. My cholesterol at the time measured over 4. After about half a year, the dose was increased to 20 mg since my cholesterol level only increased. At the same time my feet started to hurt but neither the doctor or myself realized that this was Simvastatin connected. At the same time I also got problem with a"spur" under one heal. (How I got rid of the "spur" without surgery, is another story) From the first Simvastatin pill I swallowed, the lips tickled for a minute or two, then it stopped. Now I marvel why did I not respond to this clear signal at the time, but I did not. I had not the ha...

I have been taking simvastatin 20MG for sometime now and it was a tan round shaped tablet. I just start a new bottle refill that is described as a brick red oval shaped tablet. Have changes been made to this medication or do I have the wrong pills? ## Simvastatin is a generic medication, which is used to help lower cholesterol, and as a generic, it is manufactured by quite a few different companies. It is also normal for a pharmacy to switch their supplier, when they restock, if a different company is offering it cheaper. So, you probably do have the correct medication, just manufactured by a different company. There are 20mg Simvastatin tablets that meet the description you provided, but what are the markings on the tablets? If you can post back with this information, then I can check ...

What side effects were you experiencing? The FDA lists the typical ones as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and joint/muscle aches. According to the NIH, it may take a week, or 2 for all of them to taper off and eventually go away. Is there anything else I can help with?

I took one statin 40 mg, and it has seriously messed me up its gave me abnormal heart rhythym, dizziness constantly and muscle twitching and spasms and weakness OFF ONE STATIN! its been a month now, will this stop!? ## Side effects from one doe of the medication should not continue for this long. That's very unusual. Its typical side effects are listed by the FDA as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache and joint/muscle aches. Have you consulted your doctor? There might be something else going on. Are you on any other medications? ## Side effects of statins can be a serious issue that should not be taken lightly. Statins are well known to cause muscle weakness, and even far more serious and even deadly reactions, such as a condition of muscle death called Rhabdomyolysis. Th...

please identify a pill: oval shape, pink in color & the # 55 on it. ## Hi Jingles, Based on the description provided, I located a pink oval pill imprinted with "S 5" on one side and blank on the other. The "S" looks very similar to the "5" right next to it; exhibiting minor differences in curvature. Any chance that the "55" could be "S5"? The pill itself is identified as a 20mg Simvastatin tablet, prescribed for use in treating high cholesterol. For further verification, the manufacturer is reported to be Accord Healthcare. I hope this helps! Please post back if you still think it could be something else.

I have been taking Simvastatin for a few years now and would like to know if the following could be side effects: Increased salivation - if my mouth is open and my head forward, I sometimes dribble which is quite embarrassing (I'm only 63!) Quivery thumbs - that my doctor diagnosed as essential tremor but reading up on that suggests that the tremor occurs when using force - mine occurs when I'm relaxed or even sleeping according to my husband! Disturbed sleep - I get too warm in bed and that wakes me, as well as needing the loo, but in general I seem unable to sleep for more that 3 hours without a disturbance, and in the early mornings if I wake and look at the clock I'm relieved if it's a reasonable time to get up - I get fed up of being in bed but not being asleep. Any...

Has anyone experienced withdrawal symptoms after going off Simvatatin? ## Hello, Sylvia! How are you? You may experience withdrawal symptoms from stopping any medication that you've taken for a long period of time, because your body got used to having that chemical added regularly. They just aren't the same as the severe and dangerous withdrawals that one my experience from narcotics, or drug abuse. The FDA classifies this medication as a statin that is used to help lower cholesterol and the withdrawal effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, diarrhea, fever, chills and aches. Is there anything else I can help with?

What is the difference between Simvastatin 10MG Tab INT and Simvastatin 10MG tab ZYD? ## Hello, Jim! How are you? I'm very sorry about the confusion and I'm happy to help clear it up for you. They have just been manufactured by different companies, that is what the INT and ZYD stand for, as an example, this latter stands for Zydus Pharmaceuticals. It is very common for generic medications to be manufactured by multiple companies, it helps create market competition to keep costs down as low as possible and whichever one a pharmacy carries may vary each month, depending on who was offering the cheapest price, at the time they needed to restock their supply. The FDA states that this medication is used to help lower cholesterol and its typical side effects may possibly include nause...

what does the zyd stand for? I have one with and one without zyd. ## Hello, Roger! How are you? That is an abbreviation for the name of the manufacturer, Zydus Pharmaceuticals. Your pharmacy likely just didn't list it on the other one. The FDA lists Simvastatin as being used to help lower cholesterol levels and typical side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache and joint/muscle aches. Are there any other questions or concerns?

Found a round pink pill in my living room with cu on 1 side of it and was wondering what it was ## Hi Nicola, The research I've done leads me to believe that the pill you have is not a prescription medication, but could likely be an illicit drug such as ecstasy. It could also be a medication manufactured outside the United States, or possibly an over the counter product, but it has been difficult to verify 100%. The pill I have been seeing that matches your description is light pink- somewhat speckled- with CU on the front and a score line on the back, the line has a dot in the middle of it. Does this sound like the pill you have? If you cannot have it analyzed then I would recommend that you safely dispose of it. ## I take 40 mg Simvastatin every day and each one is a round pink pi...

How are you and your mother? It is well known that some natural nutrients can help lower cholesterol levels, so she was definitely doing something right. And thank for posting this for others, those Statin drugs can cause some problematic side effects, so not everyone can take them! Is there anything I can help with?
