Ore About Simvastatin
UpdatedI've been on 10 mg Simvastatin for 3 months. It was prescribed after a TIA landed me in the ER one evening. Extensive testing was done including the CT, Echo, and others. ALL were totally normal. I figured from the get go that my extreme stress level (an easy 25) was the culprit. My cholesterol was 220 and that set off alarm buttons. It has been 240 for years so I wasn't in the least bit concerned. Other things were prescribed on my chart including coumadin which I refused. I take vitamins & minerals (fish oil, flax oil, D3, SE, CA, and others) daily and have for years. Reluctantly I agreed to try the simvastatin 10 mg for 60 days. First lab work showed cholesterol at 178 and I said enough. Realizing I'd have to back off a little slowly, I'm now taking 5 mg for 30 days. My lab tests show no damage yet and I intend to keep it that way. With the wake up call, we changed our diet to a much healthier one...protein & veggies are the mainstay. The biggest change was to eliminate as much sugar as possible (except fresh fruit) as sugar does create LDL problems. My LDL dropped 27 points & is now in the acceptable range...overall cholesterol is now 178, plenty low. I'm getting off this stuff before other problems are precipitated. We're adding the treadmill and planning to shed about 40 more lbs to make this happen. At 69, this is a challenge but it will happen.

Hello, Determined! Way to go!! So awesome that you've taken control to take better care of yourself!
There are so many posts on here from people that can't be bother and end up with severe health problems that could've possibly been prevented, it's very sad.
Is there anything I can help with?
You'd be surprised just how much better I feel w/o all the sugar too...haven't had a soda pop in over 3 mos - that's major for me. Thanks for the encouragement. That's always appreciated and it helps. Yes, too many people just resign themselves to accepting meds for all the solutions when a couple other changes could make a huge difference w/o meds and their side effects (& more meds to deal with the side effects).
Be well, my friend.
any ideas on how to get my partner to stay on board with this? the dietary & weight challenges are the same for him - cholesterol about the same as mine, no meds for it, but side effects from BP meds are yuk.
