An antibiotic is a type of antimicrobial substance active against bacteria. It is the most important type of antibacterial agent for fighting bacterial infections, and antibiotic medications are widely used in the treatment and prevention of such infections. They may either kill or inhibit the growth of bacteria. A limited number of antibiotics also possess antiprotozoal activity. amoxicillin 500mg before dental work
I am going only for dental check-up after having had a Hip Revision Surgery and do not expect to have any fillings or anything, only teeth cleaning. Is it necessary for me to take Amoxicillin 500mg before my first appointment for this appointment and also after this first appointment? ## A check-up generally involves some cleaning, tooth scraping for plaque and etc. Thus, it could result in a poke or tear to your gums and that risks an infection, so yes, you should take the antibiotic as instructed. The types of infections you can get from these dental dangers could put your life in danger and your are more susceptible to them after having had your surgery. Learn more Amoxicillin details here. Better to take a tablet of this, than to end up with an infection of your heart valves and als...

why does cefdinir make my urine smell
Does cefdinir make your urine smell and does it cause you to need to go more often? ## The exact reason why medications do certain things to the body are unknown, however, they all do have side effects, because you are ingesting a foreign substance. Cefdinir is an antibiotic, a generic for Omnicef. The most common side effects include: nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain and headache. That said, it should not make you urinate more frequently, but medications do affect people differently. Have you talked to your doctor about this? ## Yes. My urine smells awful, just like the smell/aftertaste of the capsule when I take my dose of Cefdinir. ## Mine too, just reeks. ## My urine smells terrible since I've been taking Omnicef. ## My pee smells like asparagus, but I didn't eat any asparag...

Every 12 Hours Example
I have to take my meds every 12 hours. I took my first dose at 3pm. When do I take the next? ## The next dose should be taken at 3am, according to FDA guidelines. Thus, if you don't wish to be up at 3am, you may want to change your dosing schedule. What medication are you taking? Knowing this would enable me to provider with more precise information. ## 3 am and then the next day at 3 pm and so on. ## I'm taking a antibiotic for my sinus infection. It says to take it every 12 hours by mouth. So what does that mean? ## It means that you should take the recommended dose once every 12 hours. So if you took one dose at 9 am, you should take the next dose at 9 pm. Does that make sense? ## It depends on the drug. Is it time critical such as a diabetic med or an antibiotic. Diabetic me...

Pentrexyl for toothache
I have a bad toothache and it's making my head and ear hurt can I take pentrexyl ## Hello, Ray! How are you? I'm sorry about the tooth ache. Pentrexyl contains Ampicillin, which is an antibiotic, so it can be used to treat dental infections. The FDA classifies it as an antibiotic and its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. However, you need to check with your dentist to make sure that its due to an infection, because taking it, if you don't have one could result in your developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. And, if you do have a dental infection, an antibiotic will not resolve whatever underlying issue caused the infection, such as a deep dental cary. That will still need to be corrected, or the infe...

Cephalexin Cap 500 Mg Side Effects Hiccups
My husband has been taking this med for a virus. He will eat something small before taking b/c it upset his stomach. Shortly after taking he will get hiccups that will last for awhile. Can this med cause this and should he keep taking? ## First of all, Cephalexin is an antibiotic, so it is only effective against infections, it will not do anything for a virus, since it's not an antiviral medication. Did his doctor prescribe this? That is why antibiotics cannot be used to treat cold or the flu, because they are caused by viruses, not bacterial infections. Using them inappropriately causes the risk of developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. As to the hiccups, it is probably because they can cause some gas in some people, if he is taken it with small amounts of food and gulping a flu...

Macrobid and longterm heart palpitations
I was prescribed Macrobid 4 times a day for 14 days back in June 2015. After 10 days my heart was racing , I had a headache so bad it felt like my brain was swelling. After reading some blogs and seeing what other folks were experiencing I quit taking them on day 10. I am still having severe palpitations 3 months later and feeling my heart skipping beats. Until the Macrobid I have never had this happen. I recently was put on a 24 hour heart monitor and it only worked for 14 hours before it errored. When they downloaded the recording it showed I had over 5000 incidents in the 14 hours. I'm scheduled now for an echo cardiac ultrasound in 3 days and my physician wants to put me on a low dose beta blocker. I feel nervous about the beta-blocker so am waiting til the ultrasound. My questi...
