white capsule with white band with O M on band and 20 on bottom of capsule,,,,colour is slightly off white ## Hi colm, The closest match I've found is Omeprazole (20 mg); It is a white capsule, with what appears to be one or two white bands, and the imprint OME 20 in black letters on both sides. Omeprazole is used in the treatment of dyspepsia, peptic ulcer disease, indigestion, gastroesophageal reflux disease, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and more. Some of the most frequent side effects of Omeprazole (experienced by over 1% of those taking the drug) are headache, diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, dizziness, trouble awakening and sleep deprivation, although in clinical trials the incidence of these effects with Omeprazole was mostly comparable to that found with placebo. Do you think...

i found these pills in my father's medicine cabinet. I asked him what they were and he didn't know and said he doesn't take them ## Hi, Shelley! These are nothing to really worry about. Is taking Omeprazole contraindicated while taking nitrofuran monohyd macro 100 mg? One of the warnings in the information sheet provided for the medication is to "not use magnesium trisilicate-containing antacids while taking this medication." ## Hi Diane, Based on my research there actually aren't any drug interactions listed between those two medications 'in and of themselves'. However, if Omeprazole tablets do contain "magnesium trisilicate" as an inactive ingredient (which I've read that it does from several searches), then it would probably be best to play it safe and adhere to those packaging guidelines; unless of course your doctor instructs you to do otherwise for one reason or another. Is this your first time having to use either of these medicat...

What could happen if I took 2 of these in one day? ## Hi, Cat! That would be twice the maximum recommended daily dosage, so yes there could be some dangers associated with taking two of them in a day. One concern would be the possibility of your lowering your production of stomach acid too much, which could result in your food not being properly digested. That has the potential of causing dangerous stomach issues, as well as blockages and a deficiency in vital nutrients. The other issue that it may cause is an increased risk of hip fractures, just like those which may occur with very prolonged ingestion of these medications. If one isn't handling your acidic issue, then you should speak to your doctor as they are other medications you can use, or you can split it up into 2 20mg dose...

I am not on medical aid, was prescribed Altosec now would like to know if I have to have a prescription to get Altosec or is there an over the counter equivalent. ## Hi, Jill! From what I can find, Altosec is listed as containing Omeprazole, which is a proton pump inhibitor that's used to help reduce the amount of acid produced by the stomach, to treat or prevent conditions such as heartburn, GERD, ulcers and gastritis. And yes, it does require a prescription in most countries. However, there are some that have been made available over the counter in many countries, so you could likely ask a pharmacist/chemist to help you find an equivalent that would be cheaper for you. Is there anything else I can help with?

Will Carasate act quickly to alleviate abdominal pain from acid reflex problems. I have a hernia in my lower esophagus area that is affected by acid reflex. Also, is Carasate OK to take when you are on the drug OMEPRAZOLE? ## Hi Ken Pettichord, Are you referring to Carafate? Based on my research, the amount of time it takes for Carafate to start working really depends on your own body chemistry. From what I've read, some people have immediate results, and others don''t (results within a few days instead). Unfortunately when it comes to prescription drugs (or any type of medication for that matter), the only real way to find out how a medication will work is to try it for yourself and decide after a few days to a week or so if this drug is really right for you. To answer your...

I started with KREME omeprazole. Worked like a charm. Now me prescription was filled with SANDOZ omeprazole. I seems to be totally inactive and the chemical looks yellow instead of white. My reflux returned. Could it have degraded in hot storage?? ## Often times I find that the storage conditions have a pretty significant impact on the overall lifespan of a pill. So it sounds like that could very well be a possibility. I also wanted to mention that when you switch brand names or manufacturers the drug itself doesn't change, but rather the binders or fillers that they put with it. Certain "inactive" ingredients which may or may not be present in each brand, are actually detrimental to how the drug is metabolized and used by your body. So it is possible that you may respond fa...

My husband has been on the above capsule for a week. When he eats acid fruit he vomits 3 to 4 hours later. feels okay after that. Is it the tablet and should he be avoiding tomatoes and oranges? ## According to a number of sources, there are "no known" interactions with omeprazole and food or beverages. However, nicotine, caffeine and alcohol can stimulate stomach acid or delay ulcer healing. Omeprazole belongs to a group of drugs called proton pump inhibitors (PPI). The proton pump is the site within the stomach cell where hydrochloric acid is actually made and pumped out into the stomach. The PPIs block the formation of acid in the stomach from 80% to over 90% if enough of the drug is taken. Because of this, I'm thinking that acid fruit would have some sort of interaction,...

Perhaps a couple of these might be related to your experience? The few side effects listed here are pretty broad in the sense that there's no telling where one might get a rash or hives. It could also be that you're getting an allergic reaction from one or more inactive ingredients in t...

Is there any difference in the generic drug Omeprazole from manufacturer to manufacturer? Specifically ones marked OME 20 by Sandoz vs. MYLAN 6150 by Mylan? Can you take one one day and another one the next day? Ok to mix them? ## There can be some sight variances, but no, they won't be anything that will cause any problems or interactions if you took them like that. Learn more Omeprazole details here. When you'd need to be careful is when the active ingredients are different, such as if one contained Omeprazole and the other Lansoprazole, then that may cause some problems.
