From what I can find, Altosec is listed as containing Omeprazole, which is a proton pump inhibitor that's used to help reduce the amount of acid produced by the stomach, to treat or prevent conditions such as heartburn, GERD, ulcers and gastritis.
And yes, it does require a prescription in most countries.
However, there are some that have been made available over the counter in many countries, so you could likely ask a pharmacist/chemist to help you find an equivalent that would be cheaper for you.
