Lyrica Lawsuit (Page 39)

Updated

Does anyone know if there is an ongoing lawsuit against the company who puts out Lyrica? I am a mess from it. Do we have a leg to stand on when it comes to the side effects they found out from people like us? I am a long termer. I have been taking 900 mg since 2005. Is there anyone representing us? Thank you

Lyrica totally destroyed my mind. I became, sad, paranoid, indecisive, anti- social, could not speak my thoughts without being embarrassed by the way it came out. EVEN CALLING A DECESSED STOCK BOY,AT WORK, BY INTETCOM, TO A DEPT. My co-workers noticed it as well. My BUBBLY PERSONALITY is gone. I still have problems with thought process, and very depressed. Thinking sometimes leaving here would be a welcome releaf.

Hi Holly , sorry to hear what Lyrica has done to you , the symptoms you describe are the same as my son but Lyrica also screwed up his brilliant memory and ability to think out complex mathematical problems , also lyrica triggered a severe anxiety disorder which is still a problem nearly three years after he stopped takeing Lyrica , he to often wishes he was not still around , he often says he just wont's his life and his brain back .

I am also sorry about what lyrica did to you. Lyrica destroys brain neurons and unfotunately nerves take the longest to heal and develope new pathways, even years. I am going to college to learn. Since it has been almost 7 years when I got off lyrica, I am finding it extremely difficult to remember what I am studying. I am trying to teach my brain to make new pathways just like my mother did in the early 50s when physical therapy wasn't either unavailable or in its early infancy, that is when my mother developed a stroke from a brain aneurysm and suffered complete right-sided paralysis. She developed her own physical therapy, which included exercises to develope fine motor control so that she could write and speak. She worked so hard @ it, that after 3-4 years she was able to go back working in a hospital as a nurse. I will never be a nurse or a respiratory therapist because lyrica destroyed my neurons and I am 62 whhile my mother was 23, but I am not giving up in college. If I fail a course, I will keep repeating it til I Pass. I am only taking 2 courses @ night and so far my GPA is 3.62, but I have had to let my household duties go. Most of the time my family has been supportive, but my husband gets angry sometimes because he's handicapped and can't do much to help me. I hope lyrica has not damaged too many of my neurons. I want to work in a doctor's office before all my medical training goes down the drain. Good luck to all those suffering from lyrica side effects and rremember DON'T GIVE UP! :-)

Strabismus is also called "lazy eye". One, or both in my case, would wander off center...gives new meaning to "peripheral vision". Even 5 yrs after I stopped taking Lyrica (I took it from mid-July to Oct), when I look in the mirror for a little while, I can still see my right eye move further to the right...even after surgery. When my eye doctor sent me to a specialist he sent me for a cat scan. Because he was so concerned with the outcome of what it showed, he sent me to another. That one only dealt with the strabismus & to this day, I have no clue what that other concern was. When I 1st went to the new eye surgeon (I didn't see him though), one of his associates put prisms in my glasses. I had to take them off, because I was constantly running into walls...even as I left the office! After reading subsequent experiences of others who were prescribed this dangerous drug, I'm glad I stopped taking it when I did! Yes, my memory is horrible as well! As with all pharmas, they do their own testing. If a "guinea pig" has problems, they kick them out of the study (of course they don't pay them), then fail to report the problems to the FDA. THAT is something that must be corrected--that unmonitored testing be done by an outside group, NOT by the pharma that "developed" the drug. The American people need to demand that the FDA has the funds (& ethics from bribery) to protect them from dangerous drugs & foods as well.

I was on Lyrica and gained loads of weight in a very short time. Then I woke up one morning in congestive heart failure. I was admitted to the heart failure unit of the hospital. I have since been told to consider myself tobe "allergic" to Lyrica for the rest of my life. I have never known anyone to have heart failure from an allergy to a medication but I won't go near this medication ever again. I had been having blurred vision and I couldn't even remember simple words when I was speaking or read as usual when I was taking Lyrica but I didn't want to alarm my kids so I kept quiet about that. I didn't realize that those things could have been caused by Lyrica until I read some of the things on this site. Since then I still get very short of breath very easily but again, I don't want to worry my kids. This drug changed my life in very nasty ways.

Before being on Lyrica I had a mind like a steel trap. There was next to nothing I couldn't remember or recall including minute details. I found college to be a breeze. Now, I need to read everything several times before I even comprehend what I'm reading. But I'll never give up trying to get back what I lost in terms of mental acuity. It's too important to me.

I think Lyrica was originally developed for use in Diabetic Neuropathy and then subsequently used for Fibromyalgia. And I'm not sure but I thing it's use for Fibromyalgia would be considered to be "off label use". Maybe someone could check this out and make sure this is correct. And if it was used for an "off label use" such as Fibromyalgia, doesn't that mean that it was not tested on humans who have this condition? If that is the case wouldn't the company be more liable for than ever for what is happening?

Lyrica was originally developed for fibramalcia first years ago I believe. Now it's used for any chronic pain from diabetic neuropathy to arthritis. What's next, gout?

Actually, it was initially created to help stop seizures. With that in mind, often times, pharmas then decide it can help with pain due to fibromyalgia, myofascial pain syndrome, & diabetic nerve pain. I was initially prescribed Lyrica (no "generic" available yet) due to pain from fibromyalgia & myofascial pain syndrome---which it did NOTHING to ease my 24/7 365 days of pain. The only thing Lyrica did for me was cause cataracts, strabismus ("lazy eye"), major swelling of feet, ankles, & legs, and some form of brain problem that has not been figured out even after 5 yrs! BTW, often times, doctors prescribe antidepressants & other anti-convulsion (mind messing) drugs, "since it's been found to help alleviate pain"...which none have helped to reduce any of the pain I've "lived" with for more than 30 yrs!

Your right, but it doesn't help us find a lawyer. They removed darvocet from the market for less side effects than lyrica and that was on the market for decades and helped a lot of people. When this happened doctors put their patients on narcotics like vicodan or tylenol 3.. so I. guess we are allowed to have a butch of senior addicts which is better than darvocet. The only eay lyrica will get pulled is a certain number of. people must die, by then the drug mpanies will have made their money, the statute of limitations will. Have run out and they will have made their millions and we will be left out in the cold. Lyrica isbeing treated like aspain and othenSAIDS. Lyrica cures all pain!!!

JB:
Your situation sounds EXACTLY like mine. More than 30 years of pain. Started out @ every 6 to 9 months I'd have a bout of pain that was incapacitating. Then in 2001 it kicked in 24/7, 365. Absolutely killer pain. Lyrica did absolutely NOTHING but screw up my life by causing heart failure. And doctors can't really put a label on what is causing the pain other than Fibro or MPS or RSD. Nothing helps but a heating pad and a totally hard surface to lay on. And after the Lyrica I don't even have the great mental agility I once was soo proud of. Now I have sticky notes all over the place to remind me of the simplest things.

JB , could you please tell me the dose of Lyrica you were on and how long you were taking it for , that would be much appreciated . you also mentioned a brain problem , the same happened to my son , Lyrica destroyed his ability to study easily by effecting his memory and concentration , Lyrica also triggered a severe anxiety disorder , that has not come right even after nearly 3 years after stopping Lyrica .

Unfortunately there is not one. Until a firm steps up to take on the cost of a lawsuit then it is near impossible. I've spoken to 20+ attorneys. All say I have a great case but they can't help due to cost. It's beyond frustrating.

After the pain being intermittent since the 1980's it became 24/7 for the following 10 years after February of 2001 when I returned from the Arctic Circle where I had been dogsledding and living in the frozen isolation of the Brooks Range for over a week. I thought I'd lose my mind to pain. I just wanted to be put out of my misery. Before that it would only happen whenever I worked a double shift, didn't gt enough REM sleep, or was stressed. Now it can start if I just sneeze, hiccup, change positions, or even have a little breeze go across my back at the level of T9 or T-10. It feels like a red hot poker being slowly pushed through an area just the size of a quarter beneath my right shoulder blade on my back at that level. Then the pain spreads across the entire upper back and feels like it's on fire. As I said, nothing helps except laying on a heating pad flat on the hard floor. The neurologist has Dx'd it as Fibromyalgia, which it obviously is not. I've also been given the Dx of RSD/CRPS which seems more likely. So now, after my experience with Lyrica I don't even have the fantastic memory that I once enjoyed and which made my life fun and much easier than usual. I had my eyes examoned just last week and was told I have the beginnings of cataracts in both eyes. NO ONE in the history of my family has ever had cataracts. I was shocked when the eye doctor told me this. And now I read on this blog that Lyrica could possibly be responsible for that also. What a bummer.

I was perscribed Neurontin years ago for my migraines and neuropathy I was on high doses for years I didn't see where it helped at all with my pain or headaches but it made me very agitated as did Lyrica, which has been prescribed to me for fybro. neither medication has helped me but I find that the Drs. keep wanting to give them to me and get mad at me because I refuse to take Meds that don't work or make me feel worse.

I was prescribed it mid-July 2006 or 7 (not certain of yr), by mid-Aug, my son had already noticed that my right eye started wandering to the right. I stopped it completed in Oct, so I only took it for about 3 months!!! I have no clue what the dosage was that I took. After learning about Scarlet's memory problems since taking that awful drug, I now know it isn't totally crs....

I was only on it 6 weeks and have memory issues and the pain is worse than before. I had a nerve conduction study done and have nerve damage in my hands and legs. Not to mention the speech problems and kidney issues. I will be in mid conversation and forget what I'm talking about. I feel all jumbled when I try to speak sometimes. It's embarrasing. I used to be a great public speaker.
