I have thyroid problem are it is cancer my doctor said thyroid problem that is why dis medication is for .but I hear some people said dis is cancer patients medication ## Hello, Sharon! How are you? Levothyroxine is a medication used to help stabilize the thyroid hormones, so it is actually used in both those with general thyroid disorders, as well as in those that have thyroid cancer. Thus, just because your doctor prescribed it, that doesn't mean you have cancer. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, hair loss and weight changes. Is there anything else I can help with?

Has anyone taking Levothyroxine experienced eyelid swelling and leg cramps? I have been taking 50cc for a year now. First I had itching & hives and now I have eyelid swelling and leg cramps. ## Hello, Linda! How are you? What has your doctor said about this? The hives, itching and swelling sound like an allergic reaction and, if that is what is causing them, it's not going to go away. In most cases, it will just continue to get worse with repeated exposure. Typical side effects of this medication, as listed by the FDA, may include nausea, dizziness, weight changes and hair loss.

My results showed up as 35. Is this high? I have felt extremely unwell for some time, especially with the mood swings. I am now taking 50mg of Levothyroxine and have been on it for 3 months but feel worse not better. Brain fog is very bad as is bloating. My moods are up and down and very extreme with anger and crying for no reason at all. Is my dose of levothryroxine too low? And will I have to take it for life? I've been on levothyroxine for about 4 years supplemental to also taking Naturethroid. I've been at a stable dose of the two for two years. My old pharmacy closed about 6 months ago, so I'm not sure but I think I was getting Levoxyl there. The new pharmacy has been filling generic. I'm going to ask them to see if it's been a steady brand or not. It seemed fine, but the past 4 months I've been experiencing extreme mood swings and anxiety and depression. And then just this week intense bilateral knee pain, intolerance to cold, and constipation have returned. I had just gotten to a point where I was considering antidepressants, but when the other symptoms resurfaced it occurred to me that perhaps it is all thyroid related. It's possible that the generic had an i...

Earlier this year, I found out I have hypothyroidism. I went to my doctor over some weird periods that would wind up doing things like not coming for three months and then bleeding nonstop for three months. I got my thyroid levels tested twice and with a final TSH of 14.5, my gyno put me on 25 mcg of Levothyroxine (she was going to do Synthroid, but since my insurance was going to expire, I asked for the generic). After being on it one month, I was retested and my TSH went down to 5.07. Doctor said it was close enough to normal and that I'd be sticking to that dose long-term, and then I got a three month supply of pills. I didn't feel different whatsoever after taking the pills, even after I'd finished off the bottle. I suppose it's good I had no side effects, but I also...

Hi, I was just diagnosed with hasimotos today. I have been crazy lately. My emotions are out of control & I am getting anxiety attacks. I was prescribed levothyroxine 50 mcg. I would like to know how long it will take for this medication to kick in? Will it regulate me & make the anxiety go away? Will I gain weight? Any side effects? I also was diagnosed with sibo (small intestine bacteria overgrowth) I think it's all connected. It's making my immune system off. Thank you for any help, Lisa ## Hello, Lisa! How are you? There's really no way to predict how well this medication will or will not work for you. It may need to be adjusted several times over the next few months, until things balance out. Your doctor should be checking your levels after you've been takin...

My MD just prescribed 25 mcg levothryoxine for my hypothyroidism. I am really uneasy about taking any synthetic drugs. I would like to try Armour Thyroid but he said it is harder to adjust and reserved for patients who can't tolerate levothyroxine. He advised I see another MD if I didn't want to try the levothyroxine. I'm not sure what I should do. ## Hi! My TSH is quite regularly over 100 (no joke!) Go to an endocrinologist if you can. TSH doesn't tell the whole story; you need free T4, free T3 also at the very least. And the thing about Armour thyroid being harder to adjust is BS. Armour has both T4 and T3 in it, and the endo will start you at a relatively low dose, re-check in 4-6 weeks, and adjust from there. My doctor made the same claim as yours, but I've done ...

I take levothyroxine for thyroid. Will it hurt anything if I take extenze with my prescription? ## Hello, Russell! How are you? The FDA classifies Extenze as an herbal supplement, so in theory there shouldn't be any problem when taking it with your medication, but it has actually not been studied to be sure. You should also be made aware that Extenze has never been proven to achieve any of the claims that are made about it and, as a matter of fact, there is currently a suit from those who have bought it and found it to do nothing. Levothyroxine is used to treat thyroid disorders, its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, hair loss and weight changes. The best thing to do would be to check the safety of mixing them with your doctor, before taking it. ...

Hi, I had half my thyroid removed in July. Had 3 masses that they found to be benign. After surgery doctor put me on .1 Levothyroxine. In my opinion my doctor needs to up it but he wont.. he's done blood work and says it's in normal ranges.. I don't know what to do besides go to someone else. My symptoms: no energy, tired all the time, headaches, hair loss, cold all the time, no will power to do things.. I'm just wanting some opinions on what I should do. Please I want to feel normal again. Thank you. ## Hello, Brandi! How are you feeling? I'm very sorry that you're so miserable. However, some of the symptoms you're experiencing may actually be from the medication. As listed by the FDA, Levothyroxine has been known to cause all of those symptoms and most pers...

Hi, I've just been diagnosed with hypothyroidism. My levels were t4(1) and tsh (100) dr said they were bad. I have felt like I have been living on another planet to everyone else in my own bubble, no energy can't be bothered with anything. I'm constantly freezing cold. The doctor has put me on levothyroxine (100mg) and I'm just wondering how long it's going to take to start working? So glad I have stumbled across this site because it's hard to explain to people how I feel and now I feel like it's not just me. ## Hi, I know what you mean. I developed symptoms quite a while before I was diagnosed. It felt totally stupid to be freezing cold in the middle of summer, and I felt like I was loosing my mind because my brain seemed to be filled with cotton wool and I ...

I am having hair loss.Is it because of Thyrox 12.5 ## Hello, Madhu! How are you? Yes, that can be one of the side effects of Thyrox, which is listed by the FDA as containing Levothyroxine. You may also experience nausea, weight changes and mood swings. Side effects are usually transient and should improve, as your body gets used to the medication, but you'll most likely experience a resurgence of them, whenever your dosage is raised. Is there anything else I can help with?

Need to know Manufactue's Name and Address ## Hello, Elvia! How are you? Are there any markings on the tablets that you're taking? Levothyroxine is a generic, so it is actually manufactured by several different companies and I couldn't possibly list them all for you. The FDA lists this medication as being used to treat thyroid disorders and its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dry mouth, weight changes and hair loss.

03/14/2015, Been on Levo 50mcg for 6 months and gained 15lbs which seems to be water. doc 3 days ago increased dosage to 75mcg. I was having heart rhythm problems and now they are worse. Forgot to mention hair loss. I think this drug is terrible and I am going to try to get on Armour. ## Hello, Glo! How are you? I'm very sorry about the problems that you're having. However, you should be aware that Armour Thyroid might cause the same side effects, hair loss, weight gain, nausea, headache and heart rhythm changes or elevation are all possible, as listed by the FDA. It may work better for you, the only way to find out is to try it and see, I just want you to be aware that you may still experience these symptoms. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thank you for the info, wo...

I have been taking 25mcg of levothyroxine for about a year and a half when I had to switch to escripts. I received my prescription in the mail and the tablets were now oval and scored and manufactured by SANDOZ. Two weeks into this new script and I started having odd sensations in my chest and my hands would be stone cold. At work I hooked myself up to telemetry and saw that I was throwing PVCs three at a time. Heart rate was 69 and no other issues except a weird feeling I cannot describe accurately. It was the third time that happened while on the new script. I printed out a strip to take to my Dr and had an EKG done with no problems noted (of course I wasn't experiencing any symptoms at the time of the EKG). Anything like this happen to anyone here? ## Hello, Kini! How are you? Yo...

I have hypothyroid and I've been taking levothyroxine for more than 5 years and I started liothyronine 25 mcg a week ago. I was hoping to feel all good by now but it hasn't happen. I'm 40 years old male. I'm tired of being tired, I can't focus on this like a normal person and feel very overwhelmed about this. It's been more than a year feel very tired, anxious, feel like my brain works only 25%. Does anyone have an advice, suggestion, or had any experience with this medications and how long would it take to feel better? ## @RHYH, Sorry to hear about your situation. I for one think the medication should've been working by now if it was ever going to. 5 years is a very long time to wait for any kind of results in my opinion. However it seems to me like it would...

Please let me know the name and conditions to be treated with small white pill that shows the number 514 in one side and the letters JSP in the other. ## Hi Alby, A small white round pill with the letters JSP embedded on one side and 514 on the other is reportedly identified as a 0.05 mg (or 50 mcg) Levothyroxine tablet, used as a means of hormone replacement therapy for hypothyroidism; symptoms associated with an under-active thyroid (i.e. fatigue, depression, brittle hair/nails, weight gain, etc). For verification, this particular pill is manufactured by a company called Lannett Co. and also carries a National Drug Code of 00527-1342 I hope this helps answer your question!

Can someone please explain what the difference is between taking 100mg of levothyroxine 7 days a week versus taking 112mg of levothyroxine 4 1/2 days a week? I was originally taking 110 mg everyday and then my endo increased it to 112 mg everyday. After lab work showed my TSH level was now under the normal range my endo told me to take 112 mg 4 1/2 days a week (M, T, F, Sat and 1/2 on Sun). Is there a reason for not taking it two days in a row? Although the mg are higher the weekly total has actually decreased. So what is the reasoning behind the way endo's have to take this medication? ## Hello, Erika! How are you? Your doctor is trying to keep your levels in the normal range, without going too high or too low. It's been found that dosing this way can work better, in some peopl...

I've only been taking this for 7 days, but in that time I've been more sleepy and have all over joint pain. Mild pimple-like rash on my upper back, but not what you'd call acne. Too early to tell, or is increased tiredness symptomatic of anything? ## Hello, Cate! How are you? Those can all be side effects of this medication, as listed by the FDA, along with nausea, hair loss and weight changes. Most side effects will improve, over time, as your body adjusts to the medication, but you can expect them to recur, anytime your dosage is raised. If things don't improve after about 4 weeks, then you should consult your doctor as you may not be on the right dosage for you. Is there anything else I can help with?
