I have been taking naltrexone for about 3 weeks now 50 mg/day to help control my overindulgence in the drink. Its not really working. I drink pretty steady and when I get out of work crave a cold one (or 12) pretty strong. The naltrexone kind of made me not want to drink as much, but not enough to make me actually not drink. Im not trying to stop drinking. I just sometimes over do it and make a fool of myself, upset/disappoint loved ones, hurt myself etc, etc. I feel this runs in tandem with my social anxiety, where I try to use alcohol to beat the anxiety, which never works, but I dont seem to be able to learn that lesson. Once I have a few, the buzz kicks in which inturn makes me want more. Did I mention I really, really like being drunk. I know that sounds immature, but its true. Im ...

I have elevated liver enzymes, ALT- 1105 AST- 578 BILI Direct- 2.8 alka phos- 264. I was diagnosed with drug induced hepatitis after two months of court ordered Antabuse. I gave a urine screen last week that came back from the lab as positive for THC. I have read in quite a few forums and doctor websites that elevated enzymes can create a false positive. I haven't had marijuana in seven months. I am going to be violated because of this screen and I have done nothing wrong. I am also on 60mg of vyvanse daily that didn't even show up on their lab report and also 800mg of ibuprofen three times daily. ## Insist on a mass-spec analysis. That should prove whether there's THC in your urine. I think that under certain programs, like employment physicals, they are required to do the ...

I new help finding a provider to prescribe Antabuse. I,be never had a prescription. I've had a lot of trouble with alcohol in the past. Presently seperated from my husband and moved home. One of the conditions of living at home is to take ant abuse daily. Help Snellville,GA ## Hello Ally, I'm sorry to hear about your situation. Based on my research, Disulfiram, the active in ingredient in Antabuse, is a very potent one and can remain in the body for weeks even after it is taken. The reaction it causes can be very critical... even lethal if the user engages in a substantial binge or there is not a hospital nearby. Further, Antabuse by itself has been shown to have almost no effect on alcoholism overall; without additional treatment alcoholics often revert to their original behavi...

can campral cause sweet dreams effect ## Hi Jane, Based on my research, Campral (acamprosate calcium) does actually list "abnormal dreams" and "hallucinations" as possible psychiatric side effects. Although I personally see no reason to be concerned if the dreams/visions are "sweet" and positive as you described them to be? But if you feel that this ever becomes bothersome or severe I would still encourage you to contact your doctor to let him/her know what's going on. Just out of curiosity, would you be able to describe the types of dreams you're having in any detail? I hope this helps! ## One of my dreams was of eating barbeque with Oprah Winfrey & having a really good time! Another dream was of reuniting a lost dog with its owner. The dreams are ve...

I take acamprosate for alcohol cravings, prednisone for arthritis, doxepin for sleep and escitalopram for anxiety; and my UA for probation showed up very high for alcohol and I did not drink one drop of alcohol!! Could all these together make a false positive report?

My doctor prescribed me Naltrexone to ease me out of drinking wine daily. He said to start it immediately but since I had wine yesterday do I need to wait a few days? He did not mention that but now I have seen it discussed on some forums. I really really want to stop drinking and become a more efficient person, the person I used to be. ## @Possumqueen, According to NIH.gov, "Naltrexone should not be used to treat people who are still drinking large amounts of alcohol." - However, my opinion is that a little wine each day probably wouldn't fall into this category, if a patient has at least some level of control over their habit. Additionally, Naltrexone has been reported to not cause a severe physical response in the event that you do drink (although the above statement lead...

I've been on Naltrexone for four days now. The first three days, I had either none or just a few sips of wine and had no desire to have anymore. It was pretty amazing, especially because for the past year or so, I've been drinking entire bottles. (Average one bottle every other day.) This afternoon, though, I started thinking about having a drink around 5. I was so disappointed--and worried, too. I've had two glasses already--less than before Naltrexone but much more than the past few days. Am I doing something wrong?

Hi, I am rx'd ntrexone for alcoholism and it's working, reducing cravings and all. I was a half a bottle of vodka type drinker. Now, when I take one shot of vodka, I get really sick and nauseous. Does this happen to anyone else? I thought naltrexone allowed you to still drink, but reduces alcohols effect on your pleasure receptors. I tried switching to beer or wine and still get sick. I guess that's a good thing but was wondering if anyone else feels this side effect when the drs and drug companies say it does not make you sick like Antabuse. Thanks. ## Hello, Meg! How are you? Naltrexone can cause nausea as a side effect and combining it with alcohol will intensity that side effect. So, it's not designed to work like Antabuse, but will affect some people in a very simil...

After diagnosis of lupus... been on hydrocodone and percocets for 4 years now... up to 40 a day at 10mg.... to say the least I'm over that addiction. However... after thinking it through...I decided to start the process.... last night was the worst night of my life! From extreme stomach pain to violent diarrhea and vomiting... to chills sweat and again the runs... wow!.. now it's time again to think about taking 8mgs more of naltrexone....? Should I? Would you? ## Naltrexone only prevents you from taking opiates, because it prevents them from having an effect. It actually does nothing to help prevent the withdrawal effects. As a matter of fact, if you took it too close to having taken the last narcotics, so you weren't in full withdrawal, it may have thrown you into precipit...

I would like to find a Dr to prescribe naltrexone to help reverse the damage ! It sounds wonderful ! ## Hello, J M! How are you? To help reverse the damage from what? Naltrexone is classified by the FDA as an opioid agonist, so it can help treat drug addiction and alcohol dependence, but it doesn't cure or reverse the damage of anything. Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, diarrhea and abdominal cramping.

Recently at my request my doctor gave me naltrexone to stop alcohol cravings although he admitted he didn't know much about it. I am pretty much an every night drinker, self medication, 4-5 strong drinks per night to ease anxiety. What scares me is the side effects I have been hearing about on different forums about naltrexone. I had a liver panel in late September which came out fine but the doctor told me to be very cautious. I can't afford to miss work and be down and out for any length of time. He prescribed me 25mg per day which I am starting next week after a 3 day drying out period. Any suggestions or opinions would be helpful. ## Hello, Mike! How are you? Kudos to you for realizing that you need to stop the heavy drinking and get help. That takes a lot of guts. Such heav...

WHAT PAIN MEDICATIONS CAN YOU SAFELY TAKE FOR BACK PAIN WHILE YOU ARE ON THE VIVITROL INJ. ## Hello, Phillip! How are you? Naltrexone is listed by the FDA as neutralizing opiates, so the only things you could take that would work are non-narcotic medications, such as NSAIDs. Typical NSAID side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding and stomach irritation. What has your doctor recommended?

I got disabled in 2001,doctors said it was like a grenade went off in by back. Everything that can go wrong, except my back being broke, did go wrong. I've had 3 back surgeries since then, the last one was a spinal fusion in my lower back. I had that surgery in 2002, and my doctor said I would have to have another in approx. 10 years. He also said no other doctor would ever touch my back, because of how messed up it is. But as I'm sure because of how he died that a lot of you will know instantly who my doctor was, him and his wife was in route to south Alabama somewhere in a prop plane and there plane crashed. Doctor Zieger was one of the best and friendlest doctors I have ever had. Sure enough when my back started bothering me around 12 years later, I had to talk to a lot of do...

I AM TAKING A PRODUCT CALLED ASEA it is 190mg of chloride and 123mg of sodium in distilled water. I take 20z. 2x a day. Would taking naltrexone have any interaction with this product? Thank-you, Lynn calderard ## Hello, Lynn! How are you? These are just electrolytes that our bodies need, so there shouldn't be a problem. But it would be best to double check, since supplements aren't actually tested for interactions with prescription medications. Naltrexone is used for opiate and alcohol dependence. Its side effects may include nausea, dizziness, diarrhea and abdominal cramping. Is there anything else I can help with?
