Suboxone Abuse (Page 8)

Updated

My son has been on suboxone for over 1 year now. He was a herion addict for over 12 years. Been clean off and on during that time. I have seen a personality change in him which is almost intolerable. It is like he is fine one minute and then goes off the wall the next. Has anyone who has been on suboxon or knows someone who has been seen a personality change.

Hi Ricky...I am curious how long it took you to feel "normal" again. I have been off pain killers for 2 months and was taking suboxone for that 2 months and I feel like, well I don't know what I feel. Suboxone saved my life as well but I have terrible anxiety, restless leg, can't sleep, etc. Not even close to cold turley, just hard to deal with sometimes. Any advice to help me thru this time? I will never go back, ever! Thanks Teal

Teal, are you off subs altogether or still taking them?

Hi Carol..Yes, I am completely off subs as of July 19th. Yay! I am clean of any drugs. I cannot believe it. It took about 2 weeks to feel better, but up until about 8 or 9 days ago I still had some anxiety and was just tired. I am really feeling like my old self again and I will never go back! I am the happiest i've been in a long long time. I know it's not going to be easy and it will never be over as far as my being an addict but I will live and learn without drugs.
I tried to quit cold turkey about 8 years ago..oh my god I thought I was going to die...litterally! I lasted 3 weeks and went right back. The difference this time is I reached out and asked for help. I don't have insurance, so rehabs wouldn't even call back. So I talked to my dr. and he saved my life. If you or someone you know is addicted and you want out talk to a dr. and do it exactly as they say and it will work. My ways in the past of course didn't work, so for once I listened and did it someone elses way and here I am...clean & sober. Carol if you need any more info from me, please just let me know. Take care!

Teal, thanks so much for ur info, I too tried to get off subs by myself and I just wished I could die. So I went back to the sub dr. of course he gave me more. Now I'm trying to taper and doing pretty good but I want off completely. I hate that this has such ahold on me. I do talk to me pschiarist and family dr. but the sub drs. just want to give u more. Office visit 250, pills 7.50 each and I have no insurance. My savings is almost gone. I have a real injury and was just awarded total permanent disability, but anymore no one wants to give u anything for pain and that's why I am up at 1:30 in the morning. I can't sleep or do any of the things I used to do. I'm just sick of all of it. Thank you for being so kind as to reply, I appreciate it.

Hi Carol...How long have you been on the suboxone? I guess I should also ask, if you don't mind, what are you trying to stop using? These Dr's who really hand these out every week just want the money..you need to try and find a dr. who really cares. It's not that hard to wean down, just get it into your mind you want it. I know, thats what I had to do. I took 8mg suboxone (1pill a day) for a month...(1) 4mg pill for a week &1/2 or so and then down to 2mg for about 2weeks...then down to 1mg. Then he and I decided to just stop after that. Told me to call if I needed him. Have you gone to any meetings? If you'd like to talk you can email me. Or send me your email and I can contact you. I know what your going through, I understand. Let me know. By the way, I am always up late!

Hello Teal - I am interested to hear how the last 6 weeks without sub have been for you. What do you replace the daily ritual of taking sub with? I am watching my sister while she tapers off from 8mg each morning to 1mg. She fears letting go of the daily dose and what she will replace it with.

Good Luck

Teal, they don't allow u to give out your email address on here. I don't know how I would get it to you. I wish I could. I would love to talk to you about these subs. I want off them, I can't take it much more. Again, thanks for your reply, I really appreciate u taking time to write to me. I don't sleep all night, I listen to the police scanner and read if I can. Thank you again.

Never give up. Do go to a local group. You will gain tons of informationon on addiction. You will learn how to deal with your situation. They are all the same but different. You will also have support. As for how your son is able to overcome his addiction...well, there's no one size fits all. I wish you strength in your journey.

Debbie, I'm sorry you hate the world and yourself so much that you have to be-little people that are trying to get better and improve their lives. Try posting about something you have a clue about.

Your so right dont listen to those idiots who dont even realize what subs actually do, If i never started subs i would proballty have OD and died. the subs dont get me high they make me enjoy life again im not sick and im not high im right in between almost as if I never abused opiats in the first place, unfortunatley I did and I have to be on the suboxen... But if it makes me a productive member of society and not a junky.. THEN WHY NOT

This is so true. It's just another form of addiction. Who knows what the long term affects are. I've seen my husband to to stop these and withdrawals were severe so it stated again. Mood swings. Yes. I'd have to say it is an affect. Funny though that the doctors make you pay cash even if you have insurance. Really sad.

I need some insight as to what I am experiencing starting 8/2 sub on Friday 11/16. I feel as though I could rip someone's head off for starts. I was on 90 MSG of methadone and 30 mg'g up to four times a day for breakthrough pain. I am a chronic pain patient. I have become tolerate to all other opioids. I did a taper and went two solid days with nothing before my first dose of sub. Someone please please tell me why I am so foul and angry at anything or anyone? Please help me understand. This

I had, a friend, with an emphasis on (had), his personality changed dramatically. He became so violent quitting heroin, but he was doing 10 to 30 bags of heroine a day, and was an iv user for twenty yrs. Im guessing its something like a "dry drunk"

I am on suboxone for chronic pain. I have abused pain meds in the past but my biggest struggle has been daily, debiliating pain. The pain changed absolutely everything in my life. Suboxone has helped a great deal with the pain and I don't feel the need for pain meds. It's certainly not a perfect medication but has greaty increased my ability to enjoy and participate in every day life!

I agree totally with you and I am on suboxone... I was totally clean and SOBER 2yr 7mo. working a twelve step program. Had a problem in my program(4th /5th) step. Went to a doctor got on suboxone out of fear of relapse .. ended up with my worst crack addiction ever...and now cant get sober and still on subs 3 yr later. I was already in mental relapse maybe thats why I sought out subs... Yes, they help with withdrawl but you have to detox from them as well. There is no easier softer way but the nature of the beast keeps making me search for one even though I know better.

Hi.like.I just read your post and felt I needed to reply. I was addicted to oxys and soma...15-20 a day each for 11 years and I had finally had enough and spoke to my Dr. Who hooked ma up with an addiction specialist who put me on webs. He told me that it would be a short time on them if I was ready. He also said that drs are abusing the way they treat patients because of the money they make. Drs make money from the visits to their office, the drug itself. I had to got every week and be monitored. So lots of money..I have no ins. But I suggest you go to an addiction specialist that will not keep u on subs for years! I was petrified of w/d and going on subs was the BEST thing I ever could have done...with a great Dr. ! But if you stay with the Dr. Who isn't afraid to keep u on subs, you will never get better. I'm not saying that it was easy but I would never have made it going cold turkey!! But man this was much easier...weaning off the subs isn't bad at all..not at all like cold turkey! Get a new Dr.'if u can. Good luck, I know what your going thru!

Your son could be suffering from a mood disorder such as bipolar disorder, which is quite common in people who abuse opiates. This could also have been the reason why he started abusing opiates in the first place. He could also have an anxiety disorder, both of which require separate treatment in addition to the opiate abuse. Perhaps he should be admitted to a dual disorder unit of a psychiatric facility for a few days so he can be observed by trained specialists who have experience in diagnosing dual disorders., its a common, and usually once diagnosed, very treatable.disorder, which also makes the opiate dependence much more easily managed. You are not alone. Good luck !

I have been on Suboxone for 3 years. Dr.'s felt that this was the best drug for me because of cronic pain issues. Not true. The Dr's are in it for the money only. You need to educate yourself on the dangers of Suboxone now and get your son off it immediately. In using Suboxone, I was irritiable, started shoplifting-who knew where that came from? It lead to drinking and just down hill from there. I started researching the ill effects of Suboxone, not only on the internet, but in Medical Journals and it appears to be one of the "bad" ones that gets into your bones-like Methadone. I have been off Suboxone for 2 months now and still detoxing! It seems that the detox symptoms could last up to 8 months to a year-which sucks. But, on the bright side, I did live through the sever detox's and I am feeling better..very slightly every week that goes by. I have found alternative methods to deal with my discomforts and after this detox...I am so done with opiates..
