Muscle/nerve Ache With Eliquis And Niacin Or Statin (Page 3) (Top voted first)

Since starting Eliquis, I have felt much stiffer and sore in the mornings and during the day with muscle tightness in my neck and back affecting my upper arms. A general sense of early aging that is unpleasant. Anyone else with these symptoms?

I have been on Eliquis ( 5mg x 2 daily) for nearly a year for afib. I'm now 73 (male) and until recently have always walked/slow run 4 miles daily. Maintained about 175 lbs and in other-words, always been relatively healthy. About 3 months ago I developed severe neck and shoulder pain. Ibuprofen, robaxin, or any o.t.c would not stop the pain. I even went to the E.R. The "doctors" say is not because of Eliquis. Today I hurt so bad I could hardly do anything. I'm glad I read this blog. I believe without doubt it is the Eliquis!

I don't know why doctors refuse to believe that eliquis is causing all theses aches and pains in so many people. When I started getting severe back pain I stopped taking eliquis and the pain went away. That was back in March. My dr still thinks I'm taking it but hey, he's not the one with the pain.

Thank you, Margie. One word of advice. Be patient when you discontinue the Eliquis. It may take some time to reverse the muscle damage like I experienced. Everyone is different, but this may take a few weeks or so to get back to normal. Just my opinion here.
It does appear that age is a factor in increasing the risk of problems with Eliquis and possibly Xerelto. This is my gut feeling from all the posts I have reviewed. So this is more a guess than anything else.

I am 58 and have a auto immune disease also with my AFIB. Elequis made my pain jump from a 3 to a 9 on the pain scale and that was only 3 days after starting it. Stoped it and pain was much more manageable.

I have been on Eliquis since Aprtil, PAin in lower back and neck.going to physivcal therapy.but may be the e liquis. Also very weird smell in Urine and bowels and I know tat is the eliquis.any help out there.

WOW! I'm only 45 and I've taken cumadin for 16 years. This year I switched to Eliquis. As many people have described, I feel like my feet have aged 30 years. It has been awful. I started to realize it progressed so quickly since about when I started this med. I am going to have to do something for my feet. I just started wondering if anyone else has had any problem like this. I have to make myself walk in the morning. Everything points to planter fascilitis. That may just be it, but why so crippling so fast? I will also talk to my doctor. Thank you for sharing your experiences!!!

That is exactly how I felt. My feet even my toe joints it was horrible I dreaded stairs etc. I am fit always have been weigh 135 and strong but that drug crippled me. So...as I said in my earlier post, I went off on august1 as scheduled. Did a detox anti inflammatory food no sugars and g
No gluten. Drank at least 64 oz water. Took three weeks. I am normal. Ran down stairs today just to do it cuz I could again!!!!! Good luck to you and maybe my experience will help you.

The lead legs are due to Eliquis plies memory loss, fogginess, upset stomach and fatigue. I’ve been off of it for five days. I feel 20 years younger and like a million bucks.

Thanks, my tightness and swelling is in my neck and upper back. I am stopping my statin (after 12 years) to see if that is the culprit and if not, I will go back to Coumadin.

I have muscle pain in my neck and in my legs and take eliquist. I complained in the hospital about the neck pain and got no response to it. I don't think they were giving me eliquis yet because what I was getting was in an IV. I was given an antibiotic and maybe I was given the eliquis. I know it was the day before I left the hospital I got the neck pain and I still have it.

I began experiencing muscle problems that felt like I had been exercising all day. When I wake up in the morning my neck is very very stiff and I feel like I am on the verge of an anxiety attack. Initially had lots of muscle contractions. The muscle anxiety remains about the same all day, It's horrific. I began taking powdered magnesium which seemed to help. My muscles feel like they are blown out all the time. I have also experienced 45lb weight loss since may as I am having trouble with my appetite. Recently began experiencing dizziness. Have heavy yellow urine and vaginal pain constantly.

Statins gave me severe muscle pain and weakness which went away when I stopped. I've been on Eliquis a month and almost no problems, although I had a bit of morning dizziness for a couple days at one point.

If you go back to Aspirin, suggest you take an enteric coated 325 mg. dose. Aspirin works differently from Eliquis. It coats platelets while Eliquis works at factor X to impede the coagulation process.

The risks from A fib is a blood clot in heart that can be pumped to brain.

I do not take a statin or niacin but since starting Eliquis, 5mg x2 daily, I also have that feeling of excelerated aging. All my joint and muscle aches have been exaggerated and some new added. Now I can't take an anti-inflammatory for them either! This should be listed as a side effect. I believe this med increases the inflammation in our bodies.

I was hospitalized with blood clots and after my stay, was prescribed Eliquis. After about the 2nd month of taking this medication, I find that I have horrible leg cramps (charlie horses). In some of the readings, I see that muscle tightening is described, but I call them cramps to the 3rd degree. I actually have to sleep with the heating pad on low so just in case I get a cramp in the middle of the night, it won't take long to get hot enough for me to withstand the heat. That's the only thing that really helps for right now.

I have been on Eliquis for a year now. As posted before I have had neck pains and muscle pains in the legs. I have been on it since January of 2015 for a blood clot in my lung. No heart involvement. No real reason as I am active and do not smoke. I was on two medication that had hormones and these were discontinued in January. I continue to have pain but not as bad and I guess I just put up with it. At my last doctor visit I was told there are always little side effects with medications. I was told to cut my dose down to 1/2 of what I was taking. I am to return in 6 months and then it will be discontinued. (This is the recommendation for this medication). I have been on 1/2 dose for a month now. I don't see any change in muscle weakness and joint or neck pain.

I am having same problem. Been on Eliquis for 5 months. Having very bad knee and leg pains. Also neck and shoulder spasms. So bad that my
arm(s) are asleep most of the time and hurt so bad. I can't evensleep because of the pain.

I can hardly walk down my steps in the morning, I am so stiff and sore. I am 61 years old so I tried blaming it on age, but it all started on eliquis. My doctor put me on magnesium for muscle ache, it is not helping. I understand I need to be on a blood thinner and for sure do not want to be on warfin because of diet restrictions and constant blood test. I work full time on my feet all day and would love to work for another 10 years?? What is the answer?

I have been on eliquis for over a year. I had knee surgery during this time and associated my joint pain to that and a lack of exercise. As time went on felt the aches and pains were my age catching up to me. My hips, lower back and neck pain became more and more of a problem but exercise did help a little. About two weeks ago my doctor took me off the Eliquis and slowly almost all the pains have resolved. My neck still bothers me a little but overall a significant improvement. I was on Eliquis for a DVT. Have to suspect the Eliquis and would consider trying another treatment if I had to go back on it.
