I took soma for 30 years after a failed second back surgery. I decided to wean from it after it started to cause me to feel anxiety after it wore off. I think the ingredients changed. I even paid for name brand thinking it was the generic causing the problem. Anyway, I started to wean but realized weaning was not necessary so I just stopped. Problem is the muscles have tightened and the pain increased. I don't want to list my ailments but I have many such as RA,ulcerative colitis, hypothyroidism, diabetes, sjrogrens, and cervical, thoracic and lumbar spinal degeneration. Recently I could not sit on my right side and my doctor did not want to even x Ray it. My rheumatologist finally did an MRI and the results showed torn tendons in more than 4 places among other problems. I have had health issues since I was 17. I have tried many meds. I am now on norco and Ativan for pain and many other meds for my other problems. My doctor wants me to wean off telling me about Prince and Michael Jackson. I am me. I don't know their issues and they don't have anything to do with me. Doctors are afraid of liability issues. My doctor suggested I see a pain management dr. I did. He said he saw no problem. I was only on two pain meds. He said the other doctors are just afraid of prescribing these and not to worry. I feel for those in pain cause the trend now is to get everyone off. They say on tv that Americans use more than all these other countries. Well, I see it from my situation. The baby boomers are only getting older and more pain comes with old age and so naturally people will use more. Real illnesses need real pain medication not doctors who are thinking about their insurance costs and pleasing insurance companies. Remember quality of life. You can go around with your face all cringed in pain and be all irritable or be slower and more careful but bear the pain a little more relaxed.

Wow! Sounds like you're trying to help a suffering addict, clearly you aren't in a 12 step program or you'd be trying to help someone you clearly once were. Hope you aren't a drug and alcohol counselor.

You sir come off very rude and I do not appreciate the way you replied to these people. Nobody cares how hurt you were they just want some info. You don't have to assume and accuse someone of sounding like a drug addict just because they want to educate themselves on the chemicals they're putting into their bodies. Who knows, maybe this could help someone really know what they are taking.

I am in the same boat as the rest of you. I will just keep it short and say, that I have Lupus, Fibromyalgia, M.S. Cervical stenosis, severe Osteo arthritis, Migraines, and a small cancerous brain tumor. I need narcotic pain relievers to cope with my pain, as well as a skeletal muscle relaxer. My pain specialist switched me from Flexeril, which did nothing at all to help my spasms and pain, to Baclafen 10 mgs. It helps me so much. He also raised my Cymbalta from 90 mgs. to 120 mgs a day. It is for both depression and nerve pain. I can't tell yet if it is helping me. Haven't been on it long enough yet. My pain specialist prescribed 30 mgs slow release oxy for my migraines and remaining pain issues. I have been fighting over a month with my federal insurance for the narcotic pain med. They have rejected the medication request over and over. Today, my husband got involved. Both my husband and my dr. called the insurance and argued for me to receive the med. The insurance gave my dr, the third degree..to decide if I needed the med. Because of Obamacare, our medical decisions will no longer be the prescribing drs, decision. Our insurance will be deciding if we need a particular med/surgery. Obamacare is about saving the govt. money any way possible. Since our insurance will be deciding if we need a med, they will always want the dr. to give us the cheapest med possible. It doesn't matter to the govt. what works best for you. The govt. is not compassionate like your dr. The govt. doesn't care about you, as a person. It only cares about the bottom line, which is saving money. I am sorry to say people, this will only get worse as time goes on. This is socialized medical care. America only has so much money. We can't take care of the whole world without cutting costs. This is the way our govt. decided to cut them. This applies in so many more ways that medications and surgeries. It will cost many of us our lives. A lot of us in pain will put an end to our suffering, because we will be told NO a lot in the future. Guess what? Yes, the govt, will be glad. It hasn't a heart, to feel compassion. The date is March 11th, 2016.

Ouch sounds like your so called sobriety includes vast amounts of narcotic pain medication. Please save the b.s. for someone else. Just cuz you're all high and mighty not taking soma I believe you said I know with the list you shared with everyone you are on some medication and if you have surgery unless you can do surgery without anesthesia then you get narcotics.

Thank you! I am handicapped & am not a pill popper as they say. I have suffered for so long and am now 54 & in order to use my spine at all I HAVE to take meds. Ppl are hurting & the ppl who are haters or abuse drugs make it hard on folks who really need help.
