I have "Idiopathic Small Fiber Peripheral Neuropathy" and have been fighting this HORRIFFIC PAIN since Jan 24,2012 and it took till April meeting with my Neurologist (I lived in Atlanta) to have an EMG and then a Biopsy to verify my illness. Then they ran it felt like a million test over and over and I passed all so they could not find the underlying cause so it's spreading quick and PAIN is HARSH!

My Ga Family Practice WROTE ALL MY PAIN MEDS!

I needed to leave Atlanta due to the weather and I chose Ormond Beach next to Daytona BUT AS I TRY TO FIND DRS. DOWN HERE IT IS A NIGHTMARE!! Family Practice DO NOT WRITE SCRIPTS AND IT TAKES A WHILE TO GET IN WITH A 'Pain Mgmt' Dr. Who prob WONT WRITE YOUR SCRIPTS??

I worked up to these for two years and THERE IS NO CURE FOR MY ILLNESS BUT THESE DOSES HAD MEE GETTING UP AND STARTING TO ENJOY LIFE? PLEESE... I SEE VAGRANTS HANGING OUT AT FLAGER STORES SELLING MY SAME PILLS SO SOMEONE IN FLORIDA HAS TO BE WRITING THEM AND I NEED THEM DESPARATELY FOR MY LIFE AND PAIN!! Please HELP!!

And Mr. David, when I say I take one tylenol and 2 if I need another, that is because the max dose is 2. So, I don't ever think about taking 6. If I take 100mg of tramadol and it doesn't cover the pain, then I tell my doctor so he can prescribe something else. That is the difference between someone in pain and you.

OMG You are really ill informed and full of excuses Mr David. Everyone that takes pain medication suffers physical withdrawal. ADDICTS suffer Psychological withdrawal. Suffering physical withdrawal does not make you ADDICTED or an ADDICT. I had to take medication in the Middle East that had the SAME physical withdrawal as 10x opiates. An addict can't just stop and go through the physical withdrawal because they want to feel HIGH and they like the euphoria. When I had to travel I was offered Methadone. I just stopped taking the meds. It was a horrid physical withdrawal but the ONLY thing that disturbed me was the pain without medication. I became crippled until I was able to get other medication. I didn't take methadone. I just stopped. I don't "LIKE' pain meds. Most of them make me sick as hell. I don't enjoy feeling like I want to puke my guts out. Also everyone's pain is different. Our nervous systems are wired differently. That is why there is a responsibility of the patient.. NOT THE DOCTOR to recognize what is enough and what is too much. I was prescribed 80mg of oxycodone at one point and I was taking 15 to 40 maximum a day. When I was biking 30 miles and engaging in heavy activity I had MORE pain. If I was not doing much or straining myself 15 was covering my pain. I am tired of hearing whiny BS stories. When you have a headache do you take 6 tylenols? I take one and then I take another if it doesn't work. It is the same with Ibuprofen, Tramadol, Oxycodone etc.

@Post #36,

Hey I was in ARMY for 7 years and was shot in the shin and never mentioned any of that once. I was given o.c. 80 mg 120 a month, Lorraine 10/500 120 month, 120 soma, and 120 1mg alprazolam a month all of this in 1997 when I got in a minor car accident and compressed 3 vertebrae. This was before all the prescription pill problems and I grew up in Atlanta so I had seen and heard of many drugs but beside the xanax I had no idea what these pills were. all I knew is that the pain went away and I felt great. Now obviously looking back on this I had a terrible, shady Dr. but how do you know when your barely out of your teens, going to one of best hospitals in the U.S. under the care of the best insurance carriers and physician groups around. I had no clue about addiction or that I was an addict years later when I went out of town to work and left my meds at home and was so sick I went to the hospital thinking I was dying of something when the e.r. Dr. explained about going through withdrawals where he wrote scripts for the same meds. and enough to make it through work till I could get home. Do you think I planned on becoming an addict and dealing with this for years later where a light dose of pain meds and some good rehab would of heeled me right up? So please misses know it all dont bring the armed forces or addicts ruining your life, because there's millions of us who won't steal your wallet and pawn your moms jewelry for the next pill. just please go join some hate groups and keep telling yourself you're not an addict and we should all burn in hell and remember all of this when someone close to you has a story very similar to mine. Now reply with your fancy words and lame excuses but please find someplace else to hate on sick, hurting people please!

David, people in pain CANNOT STOP TAKING MEDS SO THEY ARE UNABLE TO FUNCTION. The difference between ADDICTS and people in pain are ADDICTS TAKE PAIN MEDS RECREATIONALLY, PEOPLE IN PAIN GET PAIN RELIEF AND NO HIGH, ADDICTS WILL TAKE OTHER DRUGS OR NOT FOLLOW THEIR PRESCRIPTION AND TAKE MORE, PEOPLE IN PAIN JUST TAKE WHAT THEY ARE PRESCRIBED EVEN IN A CRISIS WHERE THEY ARE NOT PROPERLY PRESCRIBED and have to obtain their prescription in other ways, they will ONLY TAKE THEIR MEDICATION responsibly. WHY? BECAUSE THEY DONT FEEL HIGH, THEY DON'T USE EXCUSES TO ABUSE DRUGS AND THEY JUST TAKE AND VIEW THEIR PAIN MEDS LIKE ITS INSULIN OR WATER PILLS. ONLY AN ADDICT WOULD NOT UNDERSTAND THIS. ONLY AN ADDICT WOULD TRY TO STOP EVERYONE FROM GETTING THIS MEDICINE BECAUSE ONLY AN ADDICT KNOWS THE EUPHORIA AND FEARS THE LOSS OF CONTROL. DAVID YOU ARE AN ADDICT AND NO ONE SHOULD LOSE THEIR ABILITY TO WALK AND LIVE FOR YOU. I'D RATHER SEE THE EXTINCTION OF SCABS ON SOCIETY THEN TO SEE PEOPLE WHO CAN BE PRODUCTIVE LOSE THEIR LIVES. I Don't care if you or the rest of the Narcissistic Euphoria seeks OD or go to prison. If YOU WANT TO GIVE UP YOUR LIFE SO EASILY FOR A HIGH, THEN YOU DESERVE TO DIE.

I paid taxes all my life and all my family was in the military saving your coward drug addict self from extinction. Your not paying for my meds. MY FAMILY AND I PAID FOR THEM 100 TIMES OVER. How dare you talk about working in pain. You obviously don't have ANY pain.

Mr. Whiney, who should be paying for your medication so you can sit around all day b****en and moaning about addicts when you come off as one yourself. Work in pain like the rest of us but your not taking tax money from my check.

Dear Wow (Post #7),

How dare you wish that the state take away this persons child. The DEA forces Doctors not to write for much needed pain meds and then people who need them are denied the right to be free from pain by the socio-political bias that has so infected the medical community. People who don't have real pain don't normally frequent these sites. They are out getting drugs. And in many instances it is people who were denied pain meds for a legitimate ailment that have turned to street drugs like H to treat their pain. You have obviously never suffered from real pain or you would know that someone who has suffered from debilitating, intractable pain will eventually do ANYTHING to be free from the pain that crushes the soul and ruins their lives.

"Wow" - Go join the over-the-line, ultra-conservative pukes who make living in pain a reality and are the cause of much of the drug problem that is infecting this country.

And by the way: what about the people who suffer from the disease of addiction? What about their pain? Or is that their choice? You're an ill-informed i**** who should have to suffer from a week of real pain so you can have the information before you open your stupid mouth. Clown!

Dear Mr. Palm Coast. I would be surprised if you were on Medicaid. I am not an addict and have real pain. The ONLY reason I hate addicts currently, is that Florida has decided to take the lives of chronic pain sufferers who were functional, like me in the name of saving Drug addicts from OD. To be honest with you, if your kid ODs, its YOUR FAULT if he is under age and if he is an adult, ITS HIS DECISION. What we should do is educate on what dose is maximum and let people do what they want. If they want to waste their life to be high, than let them. If they commit a crime, then let the jail be their detox. Its a choice. YOU CAN STOP OR YOU CAN CONTINUE, for chronic pain sufferers, ITS NOT A CHOICE. ITS NOT A CRUTCH. ITS A PAIR OF CRUTCHES SO WE CAN CONTINUE TO WALK, MOVE, CARE FOR A BABY. I wish I could find a doctor because I am taking money needed to live like a human and buying my meds when they should be paid for. My family and I paid taxes for years and I need help now and dont receive it.

My name is David and lived in Palm Coast and had hardest time so I went to a rehab center in Atlanta and they couldn't get me in so instead they referred me to a Dr. in Palm Coast that prescribed anything.

Just want to say ty for responding. The hardest thing is that my child is really ill and the most important thing about getting help for me is my kid. I was telling my doctor if I can't walk, I will lose my child. That scares me more than the pain. So thank you. I will try again.

to Florida MEDICAL MALPRACTICE, I am so sorry you had to go through this. idk if you know but fl got busted for it's pill mills and yes its a b84tch trying to get pain meds here especially on midicaid, yes there is a BIG difference in medicaid and medicare, there is only one PM in Tampa that takes medicare, if you dont have that then the cash amount is 300 first visit 175. there after but at least your meds would be paid for my your medicaid another crazy thing is once the doc writes my scrip it takes a few trips to find a pharmacy to even fill the damn things. I justwant you to know I am so sorry you had to go through this. if youre going to GA and spending $ maybe you can try Tampa Genesis Medical Clinic, if it's closer and cheaper you do have to have current mri's and i totally understand the debilitation of not being able to function without meds..i hope things are better for you now God Bless and stay strong

Ozwell, When I moved to FL, I was on medicaid. I received a letter immediately saying I was not allowed to keep my straight Medicaid and had a month to choose an HMO or one would be chosen for me. I called in the 3rd week and was told I was already on the forced HMO Florida had chosen. I selected the HMO that I was told was best and both my child and I went to doctors on the HMO list. I reported BOTH doctors as the one my child saw, with ants all over the reception floor said his heart was normal!! He has a murmur that is as loud as a train for God sake. You can hear it without a stethoscope.

My Doctor insisted the ONLY way to prove my condition was an MRI. Since I cannot get an MRI or a Catscan, and my condition was proven. not by me, but by Doctors who did not give me these things to prove it, I reported this doctor too.

Florida defines Malpractice as for example, you have surgery and get paralysis from it. Malpractice ANYWHERE ELSE I HAVE EVER LIVED, is ANYTHING A DOCTOR DOES OR DOES NOT DO THAT ADVERSELY AFFECTS THE PATIENT.

You wait three months as a New patient to see a Doctor and after 90 days, you are stuck on the HMO for a YEAR unless Florida decides you have a valid reason to change your plan. They reviewed my reports, told the Doctor if they have issues clean up their act and told me that they noted my report and found no problems.

OK a year later, I switch HMOS. Again wait to see a Doctor, and stuck on HMO for a year. Same thing, different problems. When the year expired they were making changes to the system and would only let me switch to straight Medicaid which I did. Now no one would take the Medicaid before the system changes and I was not allowed to switch back. When they changed it, FLORIDA PUT US ON THEIR FORCED HMO CHOICE without notice. I call and was told that I had to wait a month.

Meanwhile, no doctor would make an appointment for new patients 3 months later until we were actually switched to the HMO in a month. Four months later we went for appointments. Child has better doctor now and I have the worst group of Doctors I ever dealt with. My conditions was proven AGAIN with Xrays and first they sent me to interventional Pain Management. I did not even know what that was. I made an appointment and as it approached, I called them and asked if I should bring the list pf pain meds I have an allergy to. They said "We don't ever give pain meds". I said..then how the h$L7 are you going to get me out of pain?

They said...nerve blockers, surgery, cortisone shots, acupuncture. I said I HAVE BEEN THROUGH THIS 12 YEARS AGO ALREADY and it made my condition worse.

Called this doctor and office gave me another NO MEDS pain clinic after 20 phone calls and 2 letters!! They said "We don't know if they are intervention etc.. call your HMO. I called the HMO and they gave me FIVE INTERVENTIONAL PAIN CLINICS. I called the Supervisor of my plan and she said...we don't know, call your Doctor and they should know...grrrrrrrrrrrrr

I then called EVERY pain management on this HMO list and NONE prescribed meds. I found a clinic that after begging and crying were going to see me out of network. I asked my Doctor for a referral. He referred me to another clinic than the one I asked. I went there and I had a list of the allergies I have to meds. The doctor said he was scared of my allergies to PRESCRIBE ME THE MEDS I WAS ALREADY ON BEFORE THAT GOT ME WALKING and I had NO REACTION to.

He said call back if I found documentation. I found an old script bottle and called back. Now they said they would call when they had an available time. One week went by. I called, same thing. Two weeks and 3 weeks and then I called and same thing. At 2 1/2 months, they said.."Oh sorry the Doctor says he can't help you!!!!"

I go back to my Doctor and he finally refers me to the clinic who was taking me out of network. The Dr. I spoke with there was now gone and they refused to take me out of Network now!!! I am now taking my F%#KING FOOD MONEY to PAY cash to a doctor in GA so I can get my oxycodones and tramadol. I AM ON MEDICAID BECAUSE I CAN'T AFFORD TO DO THIS.

DON'T TELL ME IF YOU CAN'T FIND SOMEONE YOU ARENT LOOKING!! ARE YOU ON MEDICARE??? THERE IS A BIG DIFFERENCE YOU KNOW. Floridas a SCAM STATE. The Politicians here like PAM BONDI enjoy their perks. They have made it so they Doctors can bill Medicaid 1000 times more than before because Medicaid people are their Guinea Pigs and they are the weakest group that can't fight back due to economic hardship, mental disability etc.

Jenifer please don't waste the time of other's being lazy. All you have to do is GOOGLE "are cortisone shots fda approved" and you will get at least 50 articles about how they ARE NOT APPROVED FOR THIS PURPOSE. Do you live in Florida? I do and I have NEVER seen corruption and medical malpractice in this quantity ANYWHERE else. I have also lived overseas and I can tell you that the quality of care is much better there than in Florida.

How can doctors inj. cortisone if it is not FDA approved? Also I am just wondering where you got this information from?

Trust me on the cortisone shots. Not approved by the FDA.I pay 250 dollars for two month of pain medication. Most of the pain caused by "the interventionists" Call your insurance carrier maybe???But you will regret every injection you take.I am doing so much better, after almost being unable to walk due too steroid induced epidural Lipomatosis.7 level decompression surgery from these injections.

Cortisone shots??? Really? Not approved by the FDA, the destroy bone and ligaments and ruined 7 levels of my lumbar spine. People, do not take these shots. I am no addict. I suffer from chronic pain or pain that will be forever. There should be a way to go after the cortisone injectors.

So what do you do on medicaid? ALL the pain management listed on my HMO do Interventional only. Thats no meds, just torture. Cortisone shots, acupuncture, nerve blockers & risky invasive surgery. I was about to become employed and now I am disabled again. From weight gain and Osteoarthritus because of these malpractice Florida Doctors, I now have 5 heel spurs I DID NOT HAVE before I moved here. It feels like walking on 5 knives. The lousy doctor I go to, referred me out of network and the pain management refused to take me with my insurance. So what do I do?
