Woke up the one morning with calf pain, no swelling, redness or warmth. I knew enough to know i could not explain the leg pain and was in the car for about 6 hours the previous day and decided to go to the ER. Diagnosed with a small DVT in my right lower leg. Was told to take Xarelto for 3 months. No restrictions otherwise. Back to normal activity when my leg felt better. I have been on it for 4 weeks now. Just this morning, saw various commercials in regards to the new legal cases and their allegations of the dangers of taking Xarelto... Im freaking out! Anyone else concerned? ## Hello, Debbie! How are you? There are risks associated with all medications and such claims occur frequently, whenever a new one comes to marke...
I'm taking 20 m strength for the last 6 weeks following a cerebral stroke. I'm having really severe tightness in my head throughout the day.Should I consult the consultant sooner than my 4 month appointment ## Hello, Brendan! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem you're experiencing. Such descriptions of symptoms and side effects can be very relative, so I'm not sure what you are referring to as tightness, but yes, if it concerns and worries you, it is always a good idea to consult your doctor. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising. Is there anything else I can help with?
I'm a 49yr old female and had a DVT that caused two large lateral PE. After genetic testing and many other tests they are happy to blame the Birth control pill I was taking along with a 5 hour car ride. I am 3months on Xarelto and my side effects are back pain, hip joint pain and my sleeping is off. I have a high tolerance for pain so I have been dealing with it. I was told if all goes well with the test by my 6 month I will be released from taking Xarelto. I hope my pulmonary doctor is telling me the truth as I find him to say things he knows I want to hear. ## I am very sorry about the problems you've experienced. Those can be typical side effects of Xarelto, as listed by the FDA. You may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising....
I have been on Xarelto 5 days now, after being switched off Coumadin when I was in the hospital for blood clots in multiple arm veins. On the 3rd day of Xarelto, started to get tightness in my calf and a little bit in thigh. Slowly it is getting worse, as well as knee pain. The weird thing is it is not swelling and it comes and goes. Saw where this can be a side effect, but haven't seen or heard how long I can expect this to last, if it gets better, etc.? I'm supposed to be on it for 3 months, until I have thoracic outlet surgery. ## Hello, Lefty! How are you? I'm sorry about the problems you're experiencing. Yes, those can be side effects of this medication, as reported by the U.S. FDA and they may not go away, until you finish your course of treatment with it. Many peo...
Since my last eye exam about 18 months ago my vision has gone from 20/20 to 20/40. Has anyone else experienced this as a side effect of Xarelto use. I have been on 20 mg per day for about 3 months. ## Hello, Helen! How are you? That is not listed by the FDA as a normal side effect of Xarelto. They are listed as typically including nausea, dizziness, headache, joint pain and bleeding. Are you on any other medications?
Can xarelto cause knee and thigh pain,I have been taking it since Oct 11-2015,my right side hurt when trying to walk, and plus iam taking diltiazem to.I get dizziness mostly every day ,I have Afib ## My last post was October 2015 I went to my doctor and he took me off xarelto because I was having side effects I have pain in my knee and muscle pain in my legs and thighs since I've been off of it my pain has left, ## Hi moe, I realize this is a bit late seeing as your last post was back in January. I just wanted to add in regards to Xarelto's side effects, that dizziness and pain in the arms or legs, are both listed as possible adverse events on the page for the US National Library of Medicine at: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0045374/#DDIC603481.side_effects_section There's...
I have gained about 40 pounds in 8 months, I don't attribute all of that to xarelto, however I work out pretty vigorously, and after seeing the posts, I'm sure it has had an effect. How long does it take Xarelto to fully leave your system? ## Hello, Drew! How are you? Yes, many people have reported weight gain on Xarelto. The FDA lists its other typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising. How long will you be taking it? It only takes 25 to 54 hours, so not very long, once you stop it, but make sure to do so under your doctor's supervision. ## Hi Verwon....I was on a trail case study, where Bayer is testing using lower dose Xaerlto versus low aspirin or a combination of both. Started October 2015, and d...
I was hit by a car (pedestrian in the crosswalk) on 2/11/16. I developed DVT a couple of weeks later (clots in calf below knee sutures.) They did the ultrasound and a shot of Lovenox in the hospital. Discharged the next day and put on Xarelto 10 mg once a day. I just saw vascular doctor for two-week follow-up, and he ordered 10 mg once a day for 6 more weeks. I'm in pain with no relief of symptoms. He said I am not on higher dose due to bleeding risk. Just unsure of this. Thoughts? ## Hello, Melissa! How are you? I'm so sorry about the accident. If you are still recovering from injuries that cause a risk of bleeding, it is normal for the doctor to want you on a lower dose for awhile. While wanting to prevent more clots, the doctor also doesn't want to risk your bleeding out....
I am currently taking xarelto and xanax and I am trying to lose wait and wanted to know if it would be safe for me to take forskolin since I am taking the xarelto. ## Hello, Brenda! How are you? I didn't find any problems or interactions listed in the databases that I checked, however, I must add the caveat that natural supplements, such as Forskolin, are not actually studied for possible problems or interactions, so the safest thing to do would be to check with your doctor, before taking it, to be safe. The FDA warns that Xanax carries the risk of being habit forming and could cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache and irritability. Is there anything else I can help with?
I seem to be doing fine with the xarelto, but my arthritis is killing me without my prescription pain reliever, Arthrotec. Does anyone take arthrotec with Xarelto? If not, what pain killer can I take? I tried an opiod and it made me foggy and unsteady on my feet. I am sensitive to meds and arthrotec really helped me, which is why I miss it so much. ## Hi Judy, According to umm.edu's drug interaction checker, there ARE interactions listed between Xarelto (Rivaroxaban) and Arthrotec (Diclofenac sodium). The interaction goes on to state that taking these two drugs together may increase your risk of bleeding. Furthermore, they recommend contacting your doctor as soon as possible if you experience any of the following side effects, such as long lasting nose bleeds, dark or bloody vomit, ...
I am training really hard, but I don't get sore after. Could this be because of the xeralto. Thank you ## Hello, Ange! How are you? I doubt it, Xeralto is actually reported by the FDA as causing aches and pains as side effects in some people that take it. As to your training, are you usually doing the same things at the same intensity? Because, if so, then it is normal for your body to get used to it and stop getting so sore and achy.
I was put on xerelto 3 months ago after hip surgery and got a dvt..Dr took blood work last week and a doppler ultrasound and found no markers or signs of blood clot in my calf. I have been taken off 2 days ago but no dr will tell me how long to wait to shave or continue advil..I also can not find any information on it..Please help.Thank you ## There is actually no need to refrain entirely from shaving, when taking Xaretlo, you just need to be very, very cautious as even a small nick could bleed severely. Thus, unless your doctor says otherwise, you should be fine if you just proceed with caution. As to the Advil, only your doctor can inform you as to how long you should wait. The FDA classifies it as a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory and lists its typical side effects as possibly includi...
Been taking xarelto for 8 months after PE. Has anyone stopped after treatment? Risk of stroke scares me. ## Hello, Mary! How are you? Yes, there have been several people that have posted about stopping it, but with their doctor's approval and supervision. Along with the risk of stroke from stopping on your own, you also risk heart attack and other blood clots, as reported by the FDA. How much longer will you be taking it?
My husband started Xarelo Dec 21. He is having a lot of hip/leg/knee pain, and we've been told the drug is breaking down the DVT clots and setting up inflammation in his body as a reaction. He is taking hydrocodone around the clock for this pain. What to do? How long will this last? Are others dealing with this? ## Hello, Jan! How is your husband doing? Yes, pain in various joints and muscles can be a side effect of this medication, as reported by the FDA. He may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache and easy bruising. Side effects are usually transient and improve, once someone's body gets used to a medication, but that can take 4 to 5 weeks. ## He's been on the drug since Dec. 21, so 20 days out, he's getting a little better. He just went on the one-a-day dose of...
Was on coumodin since Oct 2015. Personal doctor switched me from coumodin to Xeralto three weeks ago. Since then, I have had to go to ER two times to have my left knee drained. Am away from residence for two months so I have been seeing the orthopedist who is treating me. Had sonogram and MRI done last week. No clots or tears in the knee. Has anyone else experienced this problem? ## Hello, Lynda! How are you? As reported by the FDA, this medication has been known to cause peripheral edema, though it isn't common for it to just be in one area, usually it would be both legs. Other side effects may include headache, dizziness, increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising. Are you on any other medications? ## I take Vitron for anemia and Zantac to prevent stomach bleeding because of the...
Is anyone still suffering regular chest pain 10 months on from a pulmonary embolism? Mine was a very large unprovoked saddle PE. I am on xarelto 20mg. Can lungs be permanently damaged from a PE? ## Your lungs can be permanently damaged, but a cat scan would be able to give you the answer I too had to blood clots one on each lung and some how escaped completely un harmed I'm currently on warfain for the past 4yrs and have had no problems what so ever from the looks of all these posts I think I will keep it that way. ## I had a severe saddle PE in July of 2008 and had chest pain for about 18 months after. My docs all thought it was chostochondritis and looking back I do believe that was what it was. The pain can be caused from the minute movements the clot caused on your cartilage in ...
Hi. Im scared might be pregnant on xarelto, ive been on it now for 4.5mnths now and finish it middle september. I will be testing in a few days to see if i am pregnant or not. What are the side effects if i am pregnant and will it harm the baby and me? ## What did your test show? It is advised that this medication not be used during pregnancy, it can cause some complications for both the mother and baby, which could put their lives at risk. Anyone taking it who becomes pregnant is advised to see their doctor immediately to switch to a safer medication, as advised by the FDA. ## I'm wondering your outcome as Iam 5weeks pregnant and was also on xarelto for the 5 weeks have stoped now and taking aspro instead ## Did anyone have anything or response to this as my wife has found she is p...
IS IT SAFE TO TAKE BENEDRYL WHILE ON XARELTO ## Hello, Cindy! How are you? I didn't find any problems or interactions listed between these two medications, but it's always best to double check to be sure. Only your doctor can tell you what is safe for you to try. The FDA lists the typical side effects of Xarelto as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising. Benadryl may cause drowsiness, dizziness and dry mouth. Is there anything else I can help with?
My husband is scheduled to have a Button TURP surgery. The Urologist would like him to be off Xarelto for at least 5days.He is on it for Afib. The cardiologist won't approve that til he can see him. Has anyone had this surgery? How long after surgery were you able to resume taking it or were you put on another blood thinner after? ## Hello, Annie! How is your husband? I've not had this surgery, but I can tell you that there is no precise guideline for when to put someone back on the Xarelto, afterwards. It can vary from person to person, depending on how much bleeding they experience and when it stops. However, usually, it's only stopped for about 24 hours, before a procedure, but he needs to follow the instructions from his urologist. The FDA lists its typical side effects ...
I am a 65 year old woman and I was put on xarelto 20mg in Oct 2015. I have knee pain and thigh pain, so I called my doctor and he took me off, but I still have the pain. How long does it remain in your system for? I stopped the meds on Dec 28th 2015. ## Hello, Moe! How are you feeling? Since you were taking it for several months, it could take 2 weeks, or so, for things to improve. You should start to see a gradual improvement, as time passes, if not, then you should consult your doctor, again. Other typical side effects that the FDA lists for this medication include nausea, headache and easy bruising. Can anyone else that's had to stop taking this medication chime in?
