I've been told to walk but after 10 mins of walking I become dizzy and disorientated. I feel this medicine is making me feel worse and my left leg has swollen even more. Plus constant muscle pain in my back and neck. Should I go off them?/ ## Hello, Karen! How are you doing? I'm sorry about the problems that you're experiencing. However, given the DVT, it isn't a good idea for you to just stop it. You should consult your doctor about possibly switching to a different medication, if this one is making you that miserable. Other typical side effects of it, as listed by the FDA, may possibly including headache, increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising. Are you on any oth...
Been on Xarelto for five months. Lat muscles became chronically sore within first week after starting Xarelto. Both deltoids and part of tri-ceps starting getting sore. Am in competitive swimming at age 65 and been swimming since 12. Every time I push the workouts, the muscles become more sore. Definitely not sore from over rotation and joints don't hurt; just muscles. Also feel exhausted at times, even when having not swum. Very irritating and I blame this drug. Hard to keep weight down when I can't do a good swim workout. Gone from 4,000 meters to 2800 meters due to soreness. At times I wake up at night with soreness in deltoids. Consequently, sleep is being disrupted also making feel tired. ## I am very sorry about the problems you're having, many people have reported exp...
I have afib and after ep study they put me on xarelto and diltiazem cd. The channel blocker has completely kept my heart rhythms in check. I would like to get off the xarelto as I believe the joint pain in my hips and the lack of energy when I exercise is caused by the xarelto. My blood pressure is normal. Is the xarelto solely for stroke protection and will it be too dangerous to get off it? I am 73 and otherwise very healthy. ## Hello, Martin! How are you doing? Those side effects could be due to either medication, actually. The Xarelto is used to help prevent blood clots throughout your body, not just those that may cause a stroke. When you have A-fib, it can sometimes cause clots, so medications like this are often given. However, you should speak to your prescriber about the side e...
i am under doctors care and waiting for the results of my second di dimer test. After 6 months of taking it I am off it for about 10 days. I have bad knees today I woke up with pain and swelling don't know if it's my knees or another clot. Saturday no doctor. Can I restart the drug for a day or two? ## Hello, John! How are you? Has anything changed? If you've had prior clots, you should likely seek out an urgent care or ER and have this checked out to be safe. I'd not recommend restarting the medication, without a doctor's approval. The FDA lists the typical side effects of Xarelto as including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising.
Hello great tool and great forum! My name is Toby, I am 36 year old male whom was prescribed Xarelto due to Thrombosys Superficialius. It is painful as it is in my left thigh and is the size of my thigh. Outside of a year and half ago I was extremely health male whom life revolved around the gym where my 6'3" frame consistently weighed in at 250 with less than 10% body fat but after a complete Distal Bicep tendon rupture I have struggled to get an ounce of normalcy back in my health and life. I am writing due to conflicting feelings regarding Xarelto. I began taking Xarelto yesterday with the initial "starter pack" dose of 2 15mg pills daily. Last night was miserable can be defined as sleepless due to painful "falling asleep"sensation in extremities at night. Day...
I woke up with a black eye. Hadn't had any trauma to eye. I've been feeling pain in my stomach and wake each morning with pain. I have lower back pain and doctors can't find anything wrong. My calf muscle get very tight more noticeable in the morning. I feel dizzy in head. Is it possible that xarelto is causing this? I've been on this drug for 2 years and in last six months these symptoms have been occurring. I have an irregular heart beat that's why I am on this drug. I'm seeing my doctor Wednesday and wondered would it be safe to take cartia instead. It's scared me that I have a black eye. ## Hello, Monique! How are you? Yes, that can happen to some people that take this medication. You need to see your doctor as soon as possible and most likely will have t...
I have been taking Xarelto approx. one month for AFib. Taking this drug terrifies me! I also have a bad case of psoriasis. My dermatologist prescribed many different creams over time but they didn't help at all. Last week he suggested methotrexate but said I would need blood work including a TB blood evaluation. I am so undecided about what to do. Does anyone know of an alternative other than methotrexate for psoriasis? Both of these drugs have such serious side effects it scares me. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. ## Hi Mila, You asked about alternatives for psoriasis. I've been doing some research lately on Nigella Sativa (Black Cumin Seed Oil) for topical application as a psoriasis treatment. NIH posted some clinical studies indicating its use as a remedy for suc...
A family member is on Xarelto for afib, she recently had a nosebleed and when she first started xarelto last year she was bleeding, went to the hospital, but her doctor said it wasn't from xarelto, he thinks she passed a kidney stone but the bleeding cause was never proven. I was reading the information on the xarelto lawsuit and some studies claim that xarelto should be monitored just like Warfarin so doctors can tell how xarelto is affecting each particular patient. Huh? Does this mean the doctors have no idea how xarelto is working in the body? If xarelto requires monitoring, then it has no advantage over Warfarin, and shouldn't cost $3,000 yearly. I am wondering if my family member should insist her doctor monitor her blood now to make sure xarelto is working properly? Any c...
UpdatedFirst, you need to find out why you are getting the clots especially if it does not have to do with an injury. I had two episodes of clots on my lungs and God left me here. The hospital did not want to do testing to find out why I was getting clots, there were no injuries. First they put me on coumadine, made me sick, skin turned gray, muscle weakness, boils under the skin, then xareltosimiliar side effects. My doctor did a MHTFR (methyl deficiency) which is b12 folate or colbanim deficiency and a genetic factor which may have caused my mother's heart attack at 50. Google this look at family history request, no demand the blood work up, insurance pays also homocysteine levels, important, if high may me causing you problems. Second Google nattokinase and serrapeptase, natural blood t...
Updatedhello I was wondering if anyone had gotten more clots while on xarelto? ## Yes...PE . Terrible drug..Shocking chest pain and awful fatigue . ## Hi Katie, Based on my research, several webpages do actually list warnings stating how Xarelto can cause serious blood clots around the spinal cord that could occur under a variety of certain circumstances (too many to list here). However, a law firm by the name of Schmidt Law has also confirmed the link between Xarelto and potentially life threatening blood clots. They appear to be actively taking cases for such claims. So if you or a loved one has experienced this issue (god forbid), something like that may be worth looking into as well. The idea of a blood thinner backfiring is pretty scary to say the least! I sincerely hope that all is well ...
I have been on this medication for over a year and I am getting sores all over my face, arms, legs, private areas and chest. They are red and looks like they have blood in them. They itch, so they are slow to heal. I also get headaches, tingling in ears and weight gain. Am I losing my mind or is it this medicine and what can be done about it. ## Hello, Sue! How are you? Yes, you are correct, those can be side effects of Xarelto, though the sores are not common. As listed by the FDA, you may also experience nausea, dizziness and joint pain. You should inform your doctor, as you may need to switch to a different medication. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I have had test afther test and seen five doctors but no one is blaming the blood thinner Xeralta. I was on warifin before b...
I have had 2 strokes (2007 & 2014) & a DVT (2013). I am on Xarelto 20mg now for about 17 months. For the last several months I have been noticeably more fatigued, tired, weak... I have pain in my muscles & joints. Would these symptoms be less if I was on a lower dose of Xarelto, perhaps the 10mg? I am way healthier overall now than I was when these incidents occurred. ## Hello, Laurin! How are you? I'm sorry about the problems you're experiencing. Yes, those can be side effects of Xarelto, as listed by the FDA, you may also experience headache, increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising. A lower dosage may reduce them, but with your medical history, please don't change your dosage, without your doctor's approval. Is there anything else I can help with?
Hi , I know this sounds silly but I've taken 60 mg of xarelto today in error . I was taking 2x 15 mg per day and then got reduced to 1x 20 mg going forward . Should I be worried , I won't obviously take any tomorrow ? ## Hello, Dave! How are you? That can increase your risk of experiencing an adverse bleeding event, so you should contact your doctor and let them know. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache and easy bruising. Is there anything else I can help with?
I have been on rivaroxaban for a year now. Was told that I have to take it for life due to extent of dvt in my left leg. I have had no side effects at all. Until the last few weeks where I have had a lot of nausea and headaches. I feel like it is unrelated to the meds . My wife thinks it is. I am now wondering if it is the meds causing g it. I just find it weird for side affects to take a year to manifest. ## Hello, Scott! How are you? Those can be side effects of this medication, along with dizziness, increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising. Our bodies do change with time, so it's always possible to suddenly start experiencing side effects, though it's not that common. However, it would be best to check with your doctor to be sure. Is there anything else I can help with?
I suffer from Afib and have had six procedures in the last year from blood clots in my legs. I was on warfarin for awhile and during one leg surgery my INR was 4.8 and I still developed more clots in both legs. I've had six procedures to clean out these clots. I was also on metoprolol and diltazem both for Afib and finally one cardiologist took me off the metoprolol and it seemed to have stopped the clots. I have grafts, stents in both legs and an artificial artery in my right leg. I've had hemorrhoids for awhile but never bled for over a day or two when constipated. I was also on Plavix but have stopped due to hemorrhoidal bleeding. My doctor didn't object. After drinking alcohol about one week ago I started bleeding from the rectum. It was heavy for awhile even dripping in...
My son is 23 and have DVT in his left calf. Doctor prescribe Xarelto 15 mg 2 times a day for 21 days - he took 2 days (4 pills) and second day he have headache and dizziness, nose bleading and heart rate was 108. Very scared - dont know what to do. Should he still take Xarelto? Is this side effects will go away if he will be still taking this medication? Please anyone answer me if you know... Thank you. ## Hello, Alla! How is your son? With the nose bleed and elevated heart rate, he needs to contact his doctor to see what he should do. He may need to stop this medication, or switch to a different one, however, he should not stop taking it, unless his doctor instructs him to do so. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this mediation as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache,...
I need to take a blood test but need xarelto to be completely out of my system. How long does it take to get it totally out of system. ## Hello, Bill! How are you? Actually, the only thing that will work is time. You should speak to your doctor about how long you should stop it, before having the test done. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising. Are there any other questions or concerns?
Does anyone here take Fish Oil or Vitamin E? My holistic doctor prescribes it, she keeps pushing me to take the fish oil. I will go see her next week, but I've read it can thin your blood so is it safe to take with Xarelto? Also I take Arginine but I showed it to 2 of my doctors and they ok'd it. It's really good for the heart, but it does say on the box don't take it if you've had a heart attack. My chiro is really pushing me to remain on the Fish Oil but it does thin out the blood and so is it safe to continue it? I know my VA doctor a while back put me on fish oil so maybe I should get with her and see what she thinks now that I'm taking Xarelto. ## Hello, Bri! How are you? Yes, fish oil is great for the heart and cardiovascular system and can be taken as long...
Have been on rivaroxaban for 6 months after clots in lung diagnosed was told I would be on it for life. Then clot dispersed after further tests by another hospital thank goodness, so I have come off it. I have had worsening leg pain when in bed that would wake me sometimes 6 times a night. Felt pain deep in calf and developed a varicose vein which swelled only when in bed at night. Was tested for dvt none found. Came off rivaroxaban and ever since stopping it a week ago I have had no pain in leg at night no swelling of vein in leg and only get up on average once during the night. I am convinced it was rivaroxaban causing this problem. ## Hello, Wendy! How are you? It's hard to say for sure, but it is possible that it was due to the medication. The FDA lists its typical side effects ...
THEY THINK I HAD A LIGHT STROKE AND I WAS ON THIS MED FOR A WHILE ## Hello, Bee! How are you? The FDA classifies this medication as a blood thinner.
