I took a 3 month course of Xarelto to clear a DVT following an extended hospital visit. I took the last dose 3 days ago. I have had severe lower back ache and a headache since stopping. Is this coincidence or cold it be related? I was in the hospital with severe anemia and am still fighting to get my iron back up. Blood count is in normal range after transfusions. ## Hello, Lee! How are you? No, those are normal withdrawal effects, many people have reported such symptoms, after finishing their course of treatment. As listed by the FDA, you may also experience diarrhea and dizziness. If they continue past a few weeks, or get worse, you should consult your doctor. Is there anything else I can help with?

I am a 60 year old female with scleroderma, my lungs are affected and the capacity is reduced, I was diagnosed with pulmonary embolism after I had the flu , I feel I was missed diagnosed, I have had the same problem before, however I was on vacation and my specialist was not available. After two visits to the ER it was decided that I had a pulmonary embolism in both lungs? I was put on Xarelto and sent home. Two days after I woke up with my left leg swollen and in pain, I was rushed back to the ER, did an ultrasound that showed no clot , and was diagnosed with deep vain thrombosis. I have taken Xarelto 15 mg twice a day , my head hurts, itches and I am anxious. My lower extremities hurt, fatigue . I had another Doppler on left leg done and it showed no clot. Is there any way possible to...

I have been experiencing clogged up ears which feels like congestion for over two years now. I have seen three ENT's and have had three hearing tests. My right ear has 95 percent hearing but my left is lower. I finally purchased one hearing aid for my left ear and was told that I didn't need one for the right. However, although the hearing aid does make things louder, I still have the congested feeling in both ears and appears that changes in atmosphere or pressure makes i worse. I have been diagnosed with Eustation Tube Dysfunction but I still don't think that is the problem . I started experiencing the problem two years ago while treating bronchitis. It has never left me. It there a solution to this problem? I know it doesn't have to to with a drug issue but can you he...

I have been taking Xarelto for almost five months now due to a DVT in my groin. Within less than a month of taking this medication medication I began to experience lower back and lower abdominal pain which has not subsided but worsened as I continued to take Xarelto. I bruise easily which I know is a side effect of a blood thinner. I am also experiencing problems with the balls of my feet which I have never had before.. It feels like a callus but appears to be internal and not external. I have soaked my feet and used a pumice on them and although I get some relief it occurs again within a few days or so. I have never in my life had a problem with my feet or walking any distance. My primary doctor says there is no connection between the medication and my symptoms. However, it is interest...

Taking xarelto and left leg is swollen, tight and very painful from the knee up to the groin area. Have any idea what this could be? ## I have similar problems after 4 months on Xarelto. My left knee also has weird tightness and all joints are extremely stiff. I was a very active 51 year-old that went to feeling 71 in a matter of weeks. I cannot attribute this to anything but this medicine due to the timing of my symptoms and when I began the medication. But I don't get much out of my Dr. on it. I will go off of it in a little over a month and am keeping my fingers crossed that my body will go back to normal? But I'm freaked out right now. It's hard enough to be aging without something bringing it on so drastically. Let me know how you are and if you're symptoms/pains ha...

had a superficial clot in my elbow due to inactivity in a arm sling. my doc put me on xarelto I was on it for 11 days when I bruised my knee The swelling was terrible with blood all the way up my leg to my butt and half way down my calf I went back to the doc after four days of pain He said the ultra sound showed my clot in the elbow was resolved but he took me off xarelto so the bleeding would stop in the leg bruise he said to come back in two weeks but others have said I need to go back on the blood thinner as soon as the swelling has gone down I am confused and frightened by all I read anyone have a clear opinion on this? ## It is always best to follow your doctor's instructions, unless those others you've spoken to also have medical degrees. Had a blood clot in my elbow Doc put me on Xarelto Then I bruisied my knee and stayed on 15 mg Xarelto twice a day My bruise was extreme and not healing Doc then said NOT to take anymore Xarelto. I thought you weren't supposed to stop. What is your advice? The elbow clot is okay. But the knee is outrageously swollen and black and blue and yellow ## There can be risks to stopping it, but in some cases, it is necessary to do so. Has the bruise improved, yet? Your doctor may have wanted you to stop for awhile, to let it heal up, then try something else. Easy bruising is a typical side effect of such medications, as listed by the FDA, along with nausea, dizziness, headache and increased risk of bleeding. What type of doctor did you consult? Have you considered getting a second opinion? ...

I have a rash in my body, mostly my legs. I have been on xarelto ones a day for about one month. It is very itchy I dont know if taking a benadryl will help. ## It would be best to check with your doctor. If it hasn't been worsening and you haven't also had hives, then the itching may be related to the effect Xarelto has on your circulation and not an allergy, which means Benadryl won't do much. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising. Is there anything else I can help with?

On Xarelto for 6 days (taking for Afib). On 6th day was removing a credit card from my wallet and received a terrible bruise on the end of my middle finger (no pain at all when I removed credit card). I read on internet that there is no antedote for stopping any severe bleeding if you are involved in an accident or require immediate surgery. I read that other blood thinners do have an antedote, but Xarelto does not. Is this true? If so, what can be done (sounds very dangerous to be on this). ## Hello, Carrol! How are you? Yes, that is correct. If you are severely concerned, you should speak to your doctor about taking an alternative medication. The FDA lists the easy bruising as a possible side effect of this medication, along with nausea, dizziness and headache. Is there anything else ...

Small(Little) Red round pill with a upside down triangle with the number 15 underneath the triangle and when u turn it over, it has Xa on it. This is a xanex from what I seen and read. ## Hello, PoohBear! How are you? I'm sorry, but no, this is incorrect. This tablet is manufactured by Janssen Pharmaceutical and they list it as being a 15mg Xarelto tablet. The FDA classifies Xarelto as an anticoagulant that's used to help treat or prevent blood clotting. Its typical side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, easy brushing and increased risk of bleeding. Is there anything else I can help with?

I m 33 H's of PE's. I started Xarelto approximately 2 weeks ago after being taken off Coumadin due to a bleed. I am starting to have a lot of back pain mostly on my left side and incredibly tired. Just wondering if others are experiencing this and if it is something to be concerned about. ## Hello, Jules! How are you? I'm sorry about the symptoms you're experiencing. It's always best to have such symptoms checked out to be safe, but yes, those are typical side effects reported to occur with Xarelto and many other people have posted about experiencing them, too. The FDA lists the other typical side effects as possibly including nausea, headache, dizziness, easy bruising and increased risk of bleeding. Is there anything else I can help with?

Those are all listed among the typical side effects by the FDA, he may also experience increased risk of bleeding, constipation, headache, dizziness and urinary retention. If they are severe, he should speak to his doctor. Is there anything else I can help with?

Hi, I am wondering if anybody else has had these side effects. I had a total right hip replacement on March 2 of this year. On March 9th I went to the ER and was diagnosed with a PE in my left lung. After being there overnight I was sent home on Xarelto, two-15mg for 20 days then 15mg once a day. Three days later I went back to the ER with the most intense headache and vision distortions. If I covered my left eye and looked at the page of a book, I could see the black of the letters, but they were not distinct letter shapes, they also had shadows. There were other things also. I was in for three days, two Ct scans, a lumbar puncture, an MRI, neurologist and retina ophthalmologist, numerous blood work and they found nothing significant. Some results were slightly off so my primary is sen...

My husband has been on 20 mg Xarelto for about a year now (switched from coumadin to avoid the weekly level testing). He's experienced many side effects such as swelling, blood in his stool. However, the main complaint over the past 6 months is if he bumps a sore on his foot, it literally starts spurting blood (like a small gusher). Before he knows it, there's blood puddled on the floor, carpet, bed, etc (wherever he is when it happens). Once he stopped at a convenience store and someone screamed "man, you're bleeding - bleeding bad". He didn't even realize it and when he looked down, there was a puddle of blood (at least he side of a plate). There, an off duty EMT wrapped it (put pressure on it) and it immediately stopped. Has anyone else had these type of exper...

After 4 months of being on xarelto for pulmonary embolism was taken off the med due to bleeding. I was also taken off my normal 81 mg. aspirin which I take for heart disease. Neither my hemotologist, cardiologist, nor my gastro doc, (Crohn's disease ) have suggested I take an X-ray to determine if the clots are still there. This is very vexing. I am 67, athletic, trim and eat healthy. Anyone else experience similar situations? ## @JD, Sorry to hear about the bleeding on Xarelto. I did notice that bleeding was listed as a general side effect on NIH.gov, but I suppose that can be a pretty common occurrence with these types of medications in general. All I can say is that if it were me facing a similar situation, I'd put an emphasis on getting that X-ray done for the sole sake of h...

I just had hip surgery and forgot that I should not use a hormonal cream. I used 1 gram vaginally. Will this effect anything since I am using Xarelto ## Hello, Lydia! How are you? What hormonal cream did you use? I'm sorry, but I can't answer your question without knowing more details. Can you please post back and clarify? Thank you! The FDA classifies Xarleto as an anticoagulant and lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising.

Taking Xalerto 20mg 1x/day, on it for 2 months now. Having dental work done, a filling, possibly a crown instead. Take it with lunch. Advised to stop 2 days before, so stopping that days dose plus the day before, afternoon dental appt, then to start again day after dental appt. But may restart again day after see the dentist if only get a filling. Does all of this sound reasonable, afraid of getting a clot in that time, taking this for DVT's. Thanks for your response. ## Hello, Grace! How are you? That's actually a normal request for anyone taking blood thinners or anticoagulants. While there is some risk of your developing a lot, it is very small, there is actually a much higher risk of your bleeding too much, if you continue to take it. It's always best to follow your doct...
