Again, if you have an artificial heart valve (Pericardial Tissue Heart Valve) and you have an Atrial Flutter, why can you take xarelto? ## Hello, Robert! How are you? Did you mean why you can't take it? It's simply because it hasn't been studied in that patient population, so they have no way of knowing if it is safe, or not. Xarelto is classified by the FDA as a blood thinner and its typical side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding, easy bruising and joint/muscle aches.

10 mg a day and these are the side affects. My friend stopped his everyday and went to every other day and it seems to work better for him. I was thinking of doing the same thing. ## Hello, Jose! How are you doing? I'm very sorry about the problems that you're having. However, before you adjust your dosage, you should consult your doctor to make sure that it is safe for you to do so. You also need to have the blood in your urine checked out. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding, joint/muscle aches and easy bruising. What condition are you taking it to treat?

My menstruation was so bad on xarelto I needed a transfusion and was taken off xarelto. When can I expect my menstrual bleeding to stop? ## Hello, Julie! How are you? I'm very sorry about the problem you had, that's terrible! Unfortunately, there's no way to be sure. As it cycles out of your body, things should return to normal, but it may take several weeks. Other side effects to stopping it, as listed by the FDA, may include headache, diarrhea and nausea. What was it replaced with? ## It was replaced with a IVC filter. No more blood thinners for me.

I am a 39 yr old female. I had my 2nd open heart in Jan. to fix an AORCA & developed a sizeable DVT due to the closure device used when taking me off the pump. I had another surgery to remove the DVT & insert a stent & was sent home on Warfarin, Lovenox, plavix & aspirin. I had episodes of nosebleeds & blood in my urine which the doc said was probably due to the plavix & would likely stop in Mar. when I stopped the plavix. When the shots & warfarin didn't budge my INR they referred me to the clotting & bleeding specialist who put me on 20 mg of Xarelto daily & told me to take iron 3 times a day. I've been on the Xarelto 3 wks now & have lots of blood in my urine, headaches, weakness, & a lot of GI pain with nausea & vomiting. I hav...

My husband was taking xarelto for afib but it became too expensive. He is now taking warfarin. I am curious though because while he was on the xarelto when I would check his blood glucose, some days his blood was so thin the test strip couldn't pull the blood onto strip. I had to try to scoop it on there and it was still hard to get the blood strip to take it. He was not on any other blood thinners at the time. Although he was taking cholesterol medication. Just wondering, because I know they report xarelto does not need monitoring like warfarin. Since he has been on warfarin this has not happened. ## Hello, Joann! How are you and your husband doing? There are warnings with Xarelto that it can cause a lot of bleeding, which is not reversible. Just because it does hit a certain limit...

I've been on Xarelto for 8 months for a DVT. Have been having nosebleeds and now I have blood in my urine with back pain. Also have a cough that won't go away. Called my doctor and told him I want to get off it and he said OK, but I need to go in for a U/A and follow up with the doctor on Friday. ## Hello, Db! How are you? Yes, those types of issues can happen with any of the blood thinner/anticoagulant medications. You did the right thing by contacting your doctor immediately to stop taking it. The UA will be to double check for a UTI or other problem, to confirm whether or not it was solely due to the medication. The FDA lists the other typical side effects of Xarelto as possibly including nausea, dizziness and headache. Are you doing any better, yet?

I see those commercials that always tell people xarelto is bad but in my case the Doctors could not see my lungs as healthy because they were filled with blood clots. After just 4 months on xarelto all the clots are gone. Just make sure you have healthy kidneys and liver. ## Hi Ian, Sorry to hear about the blood clots - although it's good to hear that Xarelto helped to clear up the condition. Situations like yours go to show that these medications can and really do affect each person differently. I'd just be curious to know whether your doctor still wants you to remain on Xarelto for any length of time after determining that it did indeed take all the clots away? Or if you can simply stop taking it after being re-evaluated? Thanks for sharing your feedback! How has everyone else...

I'm hospitalized with clots around my lungs. 65, 2 x leuakimea survivor in remission for 16 years, lower back fused, upper disectomy, neck, partial thoracotomy, about 1/2 of one lung removed through my back. One Dr said warfin but cardiologist says xarelto? I take many meds due to abuse. They say that's not a problem. I also suffer a lot of pain and occasional migraines. They've reduced over the past few years. Any advice on the preferences? Warfin or Xarelta? I also live in a small town with a hospital not very well equipped. Almost 2 hours to nearest full hospital. Please advise? They want to switch me from the heparin injections tomorrow, 3-28-15. Thanks DW ## Hello, DW! How are you doing? I'm sorry about the medical problems you're having. Both are effective medic...

I was put on Xarelto for 6 months because of a PE. My problem is that I gained 25 lbs, I have been off of it for over 5 months and still can.not.lose the weight and also I bruise so easy, makes me think it's still in my blood??? ## Hello, Melissa! How are you? I'm sorry about the problems you're having. Those can be normal side effects of Xarelto, as listed by the FDA, along with nausea, dizziness and headache. However, they usually go away, after the medication is discontinued. Are you on any other medications? Have you consulted your doctor? You should definitely have the bruising checked out for your own safety. ## Thank you for replying. No I am not on any other meds. I did have labs checked and it showed my vitamin D was very low, I was put on 50, 000 units for a couple...

Been on 20 mg of Xarelto for 5 days now for A-fib, I'm a Celiac and quite senstive to any drug causing gas and a change in my bowel movements. I also have noticed a tiredness in my legs. I'm 71 and quite active and would like to know if these side effects might diminish or subside? they told me that if they don't then I will need to change to a different newer A-fib drug. No bleeding problems. Thanks for may info and I know that there isn't much out there having to do with Celiac's taking this drug. ## The only thing you can really do is wait about 4 to 6 weeks to see if the side effects go away, once your body gets used to the medication. In most cases they are transient, but some people have continued to have problems with Xarelto and had to switch to something els...

Is it safe to take Xarelto for afib if one has had heart valve replacement in the past ( cow valve)? ## Hello, Jhm! How are you? I have to admit that I don't know. There is a warning not to take it, if you have an artificial valve, but I'm not seeing anything about it with an animal valve. Did you discuss it with your doctor? Your pharmacist may also know more. The FDA lists the typical side effects of Xarelto as including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising.

My doctor prescribed Xarelto for 30 days and then to stop. I am freaked out because everything I read says 'dont stop taking', 'irreversible'. I am over reacting or is there cause for concern? ## Hello, Scot! How are you? No, this is sometimes used short-term. The directives from the FDA not to stop taking it, means you shouldn't do so on your own, without your doctor's approval. As to the irreversible, that refers to bleeding, there is no way to stop it, if someone starts bleeding, while taking this. It has to stop on its own, if it stops, at all. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising. Is there anything else I can help with?

is it a normal side effect to feel numbness in the face after taking xarelto? this is my 3rd day on the medication (15mg twice a day) after a lower calf DVT. ## Hi numb, Sorry to hear about the side effects you're experiencing. From what I could find, numbness is actually listed as one of the more common side effects of Xarelto on the webpage for the US National Library of Medicine at: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0045374/#DDIC603481.side_effects_section They recommend contacting your doctor immediately if you experience such symptoms while taking Xarelto. So that's probably one of the first things I would do if I were in your position. Sometimes side effects like this do go away on their own over time, but if the symptoms have been too bothersome or persistent, it seems to ...

Is it normal to have blood clots during period while taking xarelto? ## Yes, your period may also be heavier and last longer than usual. However, if it gets severely heavy and/or continues for too long of a time period, you should seek medical attention. Other side effects, as listed by the FDA, may include nausea, dizziness, headache and easy bruising. Is there anything else I can help with?

In October I had a PE and have been on Xarelto since. Currently I take 20mg per day and every other day constant pain in my legs and feet. Does any one have any suggestions? ## parish are you on any kind of diuretic/water pill? could be electrolyte imbalance it causes muscle aches, cramps and restless legs. eat some bananas, drink some Gatorade, v8 is great, and try a magnesium supplement. you can also take an Epsom salt bath, soak for about 10 to 15 min. the minerals and electrolytes begin absorbing immediately and the warm bath feels good. worth a try. hope this helps ## @Parrish, I don't mean to provoke any further concerns, but according to NIH.gov, experiencing pain in the legs is regarded as a potentially serious side effect that you should contact your doctor about immediatel...

I seem to be doing fine with the xarelto, but my arthritis is killing me without my prescription pain reliever, Arthrotec. Does anyone take arthrotec with Xarelto? If not, what pain killer can I take? I tried an opiod and it made me foggy and unsteady on my feet. I am sensitive to meds and arthrotec really helped me, which is why I miss it so much. ## Hello, Judy! How are you doing? I'm very sorry that you're in pain. You can't take NSAIDs, such as Arthrotec with Xarelto, since they cause blood thinning. Other side effects, as listed by the FDA, may include nausea, dizziness and headache. Which opiate did you try? Those can be normal side effects of them. They FDA lists them as being narcotic analgesics, so they have the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effec...

I have been on Xarelto for a little over 6 months after a PE. My doctor said sonograms show negative for any more blood clots in legs and follow up contrast ct shows clear and blood tests show no markers for predisposition for blood clots, I am 50 with no atrial defeib good blood pressure and strong heart although I am obese, I am afraid doctor wants to keep me on the drug, because of course it is the safe thing to do, what should I do? ## Hello, Dave! How are you? Have you discussed it with your doctor? Many people do just take it for a short period of time, until they are in the clear, then they are able to stop taking it. Are you have any problems with it, such as the side effects, that may include nausea, dizziness, headache and joint/muscle aches? Tapering it, with your doctor'...

I was on Coumadin for 7 yrs and doc offered xarelto with no testing. I've been on it a month and terrible stomach burning that makes me doubke over and constant leg cramps. ## Hello, Susanne! How are you? I'm very sorry about the problems that you're having. However, you are not the first person to report such issues with Xarelto. There have been many complaints about it and quite a few people had to stop taking it. You may also experience nausea, dizziness, increased risk of bleeding and headache. Have you tried anything to alleviate the stomach issue? Are you taking it on an empty stomach? ## I have not had the "stomach cramping" however, after being on Xarelto since September 2014 I have gain 30lbs. My stomach is fully extended and painful. I can eat much food wit...

On Xarelto for 3 weeks after being on Coumadin for many years. Do I need to worry about every little head bump with this medication. On meds for recent DVT and PE and bumped back of head while rising after getting something out of refrigerator. Don't want to be paranoid but don't want to ignore either. Where do I draw the line? ## Hello, Mike! How are you? Really, you should just try to be as careful as you can and, when you do bump your head like that, keep an eye on it for any bleeding or extreme bruising. Are there any other questions or concerns? ## Thank you for the response! I am just new to Xarelto and a little anxious after my health scare. I just wanted to understand the risks. I had a certain comfort level with Coumadin and just want to have that same comfort level wit...

I am taking blood thinners, can I take Claritromicina (moxitral) ## Hi roger, According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, there IS a drug interaction between Clarithromycin (Claritromicina) and Xarelto (Rivaroxaban), having what they consider to be a "moderate potential" for interaction. Their report goes on to note that using these two drugs together may increase blood levels of Rivaroxaban and therefore an increased risk of its potential side effects as well. However it sounds to me like you can simply work with your doctor on adjusting the dosage to decrease this risk if need be. I also wanted to clarify that Moxitral is listed online as containing Amoxicillin + Clavulanate; a completely different antibiotic than Claritromicina (Clarithromycin). Hope this info hel...
