On Wrong Dosage Of Xarelto?

I was hit by a car (pedestrian in the crosswalk) on 2/11/16. I developed DVT a couple of weeks later (clots in calf below knee sutures.) They did the ultrasound and a shot of Lovenox in the hospital. Discharged the next day and put on Xarelto 10 mg once a day. I just saw vascular doctor for two-week follow-up, and he ordered 10 mg once a day for 6 more weeks. I'm in pain with no relief of symptoms. He said I am not on higher dose due to bleeding risk. Just unsure of this. Thoughts?

Hello, Melissa! How are you? I'm so sorry about the accident.

If you are still recovering from injuries that cause a risk of bleeding, it is normal for the doctor to want you on a lower dose for awhile. While wanting to prevent more clots, the doctor also doesn't want to risk your bleeding out.

The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache and body aches.

Are you on any other medications?

No, I am not on any other medications. Perhaps the bleeding risk is that I also have a large hematoma on my thigh as well as on the knee above the sutures.
