Withdrawals From Soma, Morphine, Xanax, Oxycodone - Help Please (Page 9)
UpdatedI have been in pain management for years, lost my doctor along with other patients, and primary won't fill or says she can't and messes up my progress to get in new pain management in time. Now I'm losing Soma, was 3 times a day, now I have 7 tabs left. Was on 45 mg of morphine 3 times, oxycodone 15s and xanax 5 mg 3 times a day. Which she said she can not write for. Why, if she knew or thought this pain clinic was prescribing more than standard, did she never say a word until i had to go to her in desperation for this? Your primary that has to refer you and get info to get into a new pain clinic, I have very serious health issues no one is dealing with, I feel alone and suicidal. I even told my doctor and the old pain clinic staff that left, and not a bit of help, yet they know i have a history of heart failure, bleeds in brain from pain issues. No one cares, our country is falling apart and i asked again today for something for bp and high pulse, got nothing for it but a nurse, they did not send in the info two times that could have had me in pain management by now, and in having the colostomy i had to postpone since I wont do it with out pain mgmt on board.
Today they cut me back more 1 soma for a few days then no more, oxycodone 10mg 3 times to be cut on mon again and morphine cut from 45 3 x to 3o 2 times. All i can do is cry and sleep then cry more then no food, not drinking, feel horrible, and have lost desire to live and fight. These doctors put all on others and not one seems to care or no what to do with all of us real pain patients. I just want to die at this point for i am so tired of suffering and its only going to get worse. I feel so bad for all of the posts i have seen and know im not alone. All i see is the same four walls every day, go no where and before i felt i had some reason to fight and live to fight cancer and even cancer doc can not help get you in pain mang. They said today it will take at least 8 weeks to get in and ill be dead then or out of meds in a stroke etc. That is my biggest fear. Have had 3 bleeds in brain from this and pain is no joke.
The nurse said today we all are paying for those that dr shop and are addicted and i said i thought even addiction is a matter that needs treatment. They counted my tabs. I take drugs panels, did nothing wrong and most of my pain is caused from docs that did botched surgeries and cancer and injury from accident. I dont no what we all can do or if there is hope but it does not do good to ask on this site if someone knows where to get meds. Its not just docs its insurances companies and pharmacies. It's all getting way too much and hard for even a well person to figure out. I am ready to go home to my maker and wish he would take me soon. I am so tired of the lack of proper dr care in our country and its so sad i feel and pray for you all i want to know who is going to be responsible when i die or end up in a stroke due to this. Xanax withdrawals will be the worst too for i had them before for you can not sleep to escape the torture and they only get worse with time unlike opiates most docs dont seem to know this. I guess i have heart rate of 139 now and bp 200 over 133.
Sad to hear your going thru this, i know what you are going thru i am in the same position, first of all you can thank Mr. OBAMA with his Obama care, Dr.'s hands are tied or afraid of losing there jobs, since no one can prescribe narcotics but a pain management doctor, your PCP or Surgeons hands are tied. Don't understand why you have to wait so long to get a new pain Dr. Sounds like your PCP'S office not doing there job. Keep insisting to your Pcp about getting a new pain management doctor hope things work out for you God bless and will keep you in prayer
Nana , PCP's can still write pain meds for chronic pain and many do. It is up to each individual doctor what meds they want to prescribe
I still have no problem such getting my med from my primary. Most of the laws that are limiting opiates are coming from the state you live. While the CDC have come up with suggestions it has been the action of some states to make it state law. Obama care has nothing to do with it. BTW how well the Health care act works again depends on the state you lived in. My suggestion is that you look up your state laws for opiates. However one thing you can count on is that opiates are not the answer for many painful conditions like nerve pain. They just do not work that great.
It's not so much the doctors. The government is cracking down on Drs. Prescribing because they're afraid people are selling them on the streets. I have been on pain management for over 12 years. My dr reduced my soma & no longer prescribes opiates. I totally understand what ur going through. Maybe, you need to see a different dr.
No Mary, the government is not worried about you selling them...they are concerned because people are dying!
People are dying because they are *****s! How do you think they are getting the pills, most likely not from a Dr. Most likely buying them illegally hence her comment about selling them. When taken responsibly you'll be fine, it's the people who misuse and sell them that's the problem. Time to hold them accountable instead of all of us suffering for it!
You have no idea Pain Survivor, YOU should take responsibility instead of blindly taking whatever the doctor tells you to take. I see many people getting meds from doctors and are not taking them correctly and running out early, taking too much and dying.
Call it what you like, but the government is NOT worried about you selling your pills, they are worried about how the doctors have freely prescribed Oxy, etc. and have hooked America on opiates. That's a FACT!!
I have been hooked and I asked for help to get off the copious amounts of drugs the doctors put me on. I couldn't tell what my real pain level was due to years of covering up the pain and it was too difficult to quit on my own.
Personal responsibility and accountability is exactly correct!!
MadMan, I'm sorry to hear what you are going through but it sounds like an isolated event where you have a dr that isn't listening. However no one made you take the pills, that was at your own discretion. I don't know about you but my pain clinic would rather you not be on pills and will try and find alternative methods. With that being said I am on medication and in almost 2 years been increased 2 times. I can tell the Dr NO if I feel it is unnecessary to increase. Not every Dr is in the pill pushing business. But I have seen more than my fair share of people trying to sell medication that was prescribed for a legitimate reason they chose to make money instead. Those pills are falling into the hands of youth and junkies. I totally disagree with it but it's at these pharm parties you see overdoses and in other situations it's just flat out people who aren't monitored by a physician abusing the pills. Maybe that isn't the case where you live but that's how it is where I live. Furthermore I'd like to say I never take medication blindly. I donated a kidney and research every medication before use and see the long term effects on my remaining kidney. Maybe it's time in your case to find a new Dr but in mine I have a pm Dr that cares and if I felt like my pain has magically healed or was some how corrected she would be more than glad to start the tampering off process. I hope the best of luck for you!
The FDA regulations are strict. They are really making it hard for people to get the pain relief they need, so yes people are turning to the streets for relief of extreme pain and anxiety. It is a visious circle and the gov wants to know why they have to spend money in Era and rehab that does no good anyway so what do us pain sufferes do for help? I watched my poor mom go out that way and now the FDA is slapping the wrists of the drs who spent years in bed school that want to help but they don't want to put their license on the line!
85% of people who abuse medication never got the medication from the doctor. Few deaths are rarely caused solely due to opiates but due to combining medication such as barbiturates and benzos and alcohol. In 2014 something like 18,000 people died of Opiate prescription medication and 100,000 from all prescription medication combined. While that sound like a lot the number should be put in prospective, such as 480,000 died of smoking related illnesses. Another 300,000 death each year are due to medical mistakes. Alcohol plays a part in one in 10 deaths in this country. For myself I have never had a problem with opiates but I almost died from a GI bleed from Motrin. My point is all medications have some risk. The problem we are having is instead of seeing addiction as a disease we see it as a moral issue. We have always had addiction problems and taking the substance away is not the answer. For example 21.7% of white women will die due to obesity complications. For white men the number is 15%. That is a lot of people but you cannot take food away. Also if you know anything about addiction, when the addict is no longer able to get their drug of choice they can view it as reaching there bottom and get help or move on to some other drug. Unfortunately most addicts go to another drug. It should also be noted that 60 % of those who have started using opiates under the age of 25 never used opiate pain medication however almost all abused alcohol before using opiates. Just a side note marijuana has been viewed as the gateway drug on the road of abusing illegal drugs but in fact 75% of more teens abuse alcohol than marijuana. Unless this country is really going do what is needed and spend the money to do it nothing will change because people will always find ways to abuse something. The key is to deal with making real changes is not taking people med away but has to be handled by multiple fronts which include education, affordable rehab, services to help the addict once clean to learn skills needed to become productive members of society, aftercare and so on. However the biggest hurdle is people attitudes and not understanding that addicts have a disease that is not there fault (however that does not mean they are not responsible for there actions or recovery) and that it is health care issue with the exception of bringing in and the selling of illegal drugs. Until we make that type of commitment the deaths will continue but the only thing that will change is the drug being used.
However just because some people have problems with a medication should not mean that for those who it helps and is responsible with their medication should not be denied with what works best for them. It is called individual medical care. I have been on MS Contin for 16 years and my dose has stayed about the same for the entire time. As my back as gotten worse however I have learned that my pain meds are not going to relieve all my pain and to get the same pain relief as I did 15 years ago I need to do more to help myself like exercise. However I have also learned without the medication my pain is so out of control I am not able to do those thing that help me over all. This not a easy topic and I have seen both side of the problem with addiction with a step-father who was a alcoholic and me as a chronic pain patient. But if I have learned anything in regards to my being able to get my medications is that my health and what helps me live a the best way I can with my disability is that it should not be solely determined by politicians who know nothing about me or my conditions or my medical health but some of the laws and policies that are being put into place that is exactly what is happening. Health care needs to stop being in the hands of the insurance companies and federal and state lawmakers and back to properly trained doctors and better informed patients. Sorry I am all over the place but I wrote this on my phone and there was no way I was going to redo writing everything as new thoughts came to my mind.
MadMan,
You are right on certain things you said but tell me what the answer is for many of us that have been prescribed pain meds for real pain issues, they cut you down so much that what little amounts/ dosages we do get doesn't even touch our pain level? I have been over prescribed for sure, but now I am being way under prescribed, do you have any suggestions for someone like me since it appears it is black and white with you, no grey, just asking cuz I surely cannot live any kind of quality of life without pain meds or the low amt I am getting now, I surely will run out early this month because I need to function, I need some sort of pain relief, I am not a junkie, never was but I am becoming more anxious over this issue and what is my option, go to the streets??
I apologize mm if it appears that I am cold and only thinking in black & white. Some people need pain meds; most do not need them the rest of their lives?
It is up to us as individuals to be responsible with our meds. At one point in my life, I was looking for illicit drugs because they stopped giving me the dosages I "thought" I needed. I asked for help to get off the meds and was fine for 3 years until cancer hit and a double neck fusion....so I have been on them again for over a year. Needless to say, I am being careful to not end up where I was headed before.
Good luck to you all!!
It's the government that's at fault. My pain mgr also cut my script when Soma & pain meds are involved. You need to go to the ER if you are in pain. I don't see why your regular dr can't write you a referral to a new pain mgr. Good luck & if you are in distress, please go to the ER
I agree! If the Dr tries any more cutoffs, I know I won't make it. I never used to run out early, but I do now. I have an auto immune problem and many other problems too and I can't take more drops in my medicine, either!
The government is concerns about prescription pain meds getting in the hands of those they are no prescribed for. When this happens, they are abused and peope over dose. The government is also concerned about the number of chronic pain patients that are on high doses of opiates because the risks of death increases the higher the dose. Other meds like Soma and Valium also increase the risk of death.
The ones to be angry at are the pharmaceutical companies. Pharmaceutical companies lied to the FDA and doctors regarding the risks of taking opiates.
If your pain meds have been decreased, it will take a few months, but it will get better. You will find that you are able to function on a lower dose of meds. You do have to have a good attitude and try and manage by adjusting your life style. No one likes not being able to do things they want to do. Unfortunately, that is part of any chronic illness.
SUE: Both the painkillers you talked about are "opioid based pain killers".
If you go to the the Emergency Room, you better make sure that's the best place to be. BUT if you go there "just seeking pain relief", that will be it! They will "red flag" you as a drug seeker and NO, E.R. will help you. At least that's they way it is in my state.
Well,im taking hydrocodone 10 my. 1-2 every 4-6 hours and xanax 1 mg 4 x a day.I am 68 and have had cancer. My thing is the rebound pain, people don't talk about it enough but it causes me to take more,if I run out a few days early, thats on me.i don't have bad withdrawal effects form xanax. The best thing to do was already mentioned.Wean off because they're notgoing to give you more.im sorry for your problems.I asked and got a script for Tylenol #3,i alternate and I actually feel better off the harder stuff.i have a immune system disease PMR that knocks me for a loop when it hits me.Bone on bone right knee to ankle and I don't want surgery
I know. But my medicare won't pay for oxys, so my dr had better get it together soon and give me 120 mg a day or I will find a Dr who will! I have been on that dose for years. I was in bath tub today and my shoulder came out of socket and had to put in place. I never screamed so hard and huet so bad in my life. I am full is titanium from two fusion surgeries and was put on 1000 mg a day 4 years ago and today I couldn't even take bath. I need shoulder replacement but my new Dr said that I would not survive anirher surgery! Help me please! I don't even went to live anymore luke this! All I need is good pain control!
I am so sorry you are going through this. I, too, have chronic pain from a back surgery where they had to reconstruct my spine with rods, plates, & screws. I went 5 years without any pain meds after my surgery and have now been in pain management for 3yrs. Last Friday I missed my appointment because I wore the date wrong on my calendar. I have never failed a drug panel, have always been a stellar patient and never have been to another pain Dr. I was on 30mg morphine 3x/day, 15mg morphine IR 3x/day, neurontin, Xanax, muscle relaxers, and sleep meds. Now, because of ONE missed appointment, they cut me off completely with only an anxiety Rx and one for blood pressure. I'm alone 95% of the time because my husband is a truck driver and I'm scared. I've never been addicted to anything in my life and, from what I've read, the withdrawals from these meds are really bad.
I've been told that kratom can help, and I only pray that it does. I was due to have a visit from my 2 year old granddaughter for the first time since she had been born because they live out of state, and now I'm going to be enduring withdrawals their entire visit. I just don't understand why the doctors look at us who NEED this medication as we're the same as those who WANT it. They don't seem to care about us as human beings. Or what something like this can do to us. I was FINALLY starting to enjoy life again after YEARS of being couch bound because my pain was so debilitating. Now I'm back to square one. Please do not give up! You are NOT ALONE in your struggles. There are MANY of us out here who understand and sympathize with you. Chronic pain is one of the most misunderstood medical issues. We aren't out here WANTING to be on these meds, we NEED them to live a life worth living. My heart breaks for you... Just hang in there.
