I need help. I started Viibryd a month ago. No side effects. On the fourth week I started getting crazy dizzy spells. At 20mg. I got off immediately because I couldn’t handle it. Doc says I can stop cold so I did. It’s been 7 days and I’m still getting dizzy spells twice a day and I think hyperventilation. When will this stop? I taking klonopin as needed should I take more? How long will it take to all go away?

Okay. Wow. I can’t believe what I have read... I started taking Viibryd a few months ago. I have had mental health issues for as long as I can remember — have been on countless antidepressants (Prozac, Zoloft, Wellbutrin, Lamictal, Lexapro, you name it..) and I am only 19 (female). I thought, as many of us did, Viibryd was this miracle, cure-all antidepressant... things went well. At first. Within the past month or so.. I have just not felt myself. Not felt... normal. One of the things that freaks me out the most is I will get red, but only on one side of my face. Almost like flushing out of embarrassment, but that is not the case. It seems to happen out of nowhere, and more frequently as the days go on. My whole outer part of my right ear (most of my entire ear, actually) will go absolutely BEET red, and will be incredibly hot to the touch. It has spread to my right cheek, but not much farther than that.. why on one side?

Has anyone else experienced this? I also have been having a lot of other ailments plague my body within the past few months.. I did not ever think they would, in any way, be related to each other. I have horrible orthostatic intolerance, which has also gotten worse with time. Especially if I am standing in line somewhere, or in the same spot for a prolonged period of time. My vision just goes black, and I’ll hit the ground if I am not able to stop myself. I also have had weird cramping, aches, and pains all over my body. My thighs, my palms, my back, neck, shoulders... Another thing that frightens me is the sudden “buzz” or electric-like feeling that usually manifests around (what feels like) where my brain stem is attached to my actual brain, at the top of my neck. I don’t know how else to explain that. My anxiety and paranoia has also skyrocketed, and for whatever reason, I get very frustrated with my fiancé easily. Over... nothing. I don’t just mean frustrated, either. I mean angry. I have also been having very weird dreams, and have found that going back to sleep after waking up only puts me back into that same exact dream.

Right now, actually.. I am experiencing extreme paranoia and the feeling that I am not alone in my house, even though I know for a fact that I am. I keep hearing things and looking in directions where there is absolutely nothing. But I can’t shake the feeling. The fatigue I experience as a 19 y/o female is absolutely and positively not normal. Neither are the chest pains I have experienced, or the weird pains/cramps in between each individual rib. Sometimes I feel as if I cannot even breathe like a normal human being should be able to... I take a deep, deep breath, only to be met with (what feels like) almost empty lungs regardless. My heart beat also goes all over the place. What is going on? This isn’t normal or right. I have heard of Sjögren’s Syndrome, and that is the only thing consistent with my symptoms, other than the possibility that Viibyrd caused all of this, which actually is not a far-fetched idea, now. Please help.

I'm a 49 year old male. Started Viibryd after others screwed with my libido.. that was fixed within the first few days.. and I've been on it for 3 months and it was good at first but now I have the long nightmares and depression. I just had a long weekend where I thought I was truly going mad... the dreams went on for hours and I slept over 16 hrs. When I woke I spent most of the day in a zombie like state. My entire body was exhausted and I was dizzy and spent. I cried at lord of the rings! When the trees fought the orcs and then when Spock died in st2. The dreams I can’t even describe, intense and so real... what I imagine an insane person's night is like. It was twin peaks crossed with apocalypse now with lots more acid. I took it mainly for irritability and depression... I was still an irritable prick and oh well... you get it... it’s messed up.

I'm on day 17 now, I had a major panic attack night when trying to take viibryd right before I thought I would fall asleep. It lasted 3.5 hours. THis is not associated with another drug because I have been off wellbutrin since december and lexapro was before that. I also had a lot of anxiety (not an attack) while going out with my husband and friend. I think what they say about alcohol may be true, went out drinking that night and got drunk not intending to and having 3 beers and 2 shots (his friends were ordering rounds) and I had my head in the toilet from 3am to 8am. I'm not sure the meds are working at all. I don't feel any better and Im taking the viibryd for anxiety. I've actually had to take more of my xanax since viibryd. I've read somewhere that someone said stick it out until the 3rd of 4th week because it will really kick in. I hope so. I also think its really hard for people to rate this med when coming off another med. Its hard to know what is the withdrawal and what is the viibryd. When coming off lexapro cold turkey (i know.. dumb!) I felt chest pressure and shortness of breath. I thought it was bronchitis and I just had mucus stuck so I took every cold medicine. I couldnt even walk to the mailbox without being out of breath. I went to mdnow and they sent me straight to the er and the er wanted to observe me all night for a heart attack (im a 32 year old female) My dr finally comes in the next day and asks me if i came off the lexapro and I said yea..2 weeks ago. he said it was totally from that and put me back on the lexaro and I tapered off. SOOOOOO crazy because I had NO ANXIETY and never would have suspected the drug could do that. I wish all of us luck on this med and please keep posting how you are all doing!

Ive been taking Viibryd for about 2 weeks. This little pill has been a disaster for me. I have been nothing but dizzy. I walk into walls at work, tripping over just about everything and just really having a hard time with this. I had to leave work early tonight due to this dizziness. I was stumbling around half my shift, walking into the walls, tripping over wheelchairs, not being able to walk in a straight line and to top it off, really blurry vision. Granted this pill did make me alittle more out-going but I would rather stay a recluse then deal with the side effects of this. I have been on many anti-depressents over the past 18 years, and this has been one of the worst. Now that my dizziness is gone I have a flaming headache. Feel like I was out on a all night bender. I also have not been able to sleep. I do have insomnia to begin with but this makes it way worse. Not to mention the really WEIRD dreams that I have been having. I am never taking Viibryd again. I must call my doctor tomorrow and get my Celexa back.

Crystal, and Co. Although I am not happy at all to hear that you guys are suffering so much with this vibryd; I am very relieved to know that I am not alone. I am on the 40mg dose of Vibryd and I seem to have been okay (besides stomach upset) on the lower dose but boy have I changed in these past weeks. My lovely "doc" gave me samples on a cardboard card and because of my "attitude" has dismissed me from his care. Nice..he gives me meds that make me extremely agitated and aggressive and then he doesn't like that I tell his nurse that she's inept and that he's irresponsible. Also, suicidal thoughts big time...nice to know you have a supportive psych behind you. I now have no care and some blue pills on a piece of cardboard. Very responsible. Hanging on by a thread in Pa.

Ray, talk to your dr. Don't do it by yourself. You'll have to wean off slowly to avoid withdrawls and adverse side effects. Its wicked stuff. Good luck.

Viibryd is definitely a nasty drug. My doctor gave me a starter pack to begin with - went on this drug in January. I started with 10mg. Immediately, I became dizzy, lethargic, sick to my stomach, completely out of sorts. After a couple of days that equalized until I started 20mg. Same set of effects. 30mg was worse! By the time I got to 40mg, things seemed to get a bit better, but I was VERY leery of the stuff. Long story made short, my doctor ended up putting me on 10mg/day along with 150mg of Welbutrin. The combination is working, however as with so many others I have experienced a 25lb. weight gain. I am having some troubles sleeping for which he prescribed 0.5 Xanax which I take occasionally. No horrid, debilitating dreams as some have reported - in fact, I rarely have dreams to my knowledge. I have ZERO sex drive, but admittedly I've been that way since going into menopause. What IS scaring me is the awful pain in my hips - there are days I can barely walk. This has very recently begun, but is steadily worsening. No one warned me of this, but I note that others are having joint troubles as well. All in all, this nasty drug isn't worth the troubles.

I a so grateful to have found this board and to be hearing everyone's side effects!! I'm calling my doctor right away - he wants to see me in a month, but I'm going ASAP. I'm scared to death that the horrific pain and decreased range of motion in my hips will never go away! This drug does not react well at all with many anti inflammatory drugs - BE CAREFUL!!! I hate this stuff!!

No way are you going crazy! I saw my doctor on Monday, and he's taking me off this stuff slowly. I can't wait to be done with it! I'e had none of the symptoms you've had, but I do know enough that I don't want to take this drug any longer. Good luck to you!

I filed a grievance as well. I'm coming to strongly believe that most doctors really don't know all that much about Viibryd. I learned more about it from speaking with my pharmacist and sites such as this one than I did from my doctor. I almost believe HE learned about it from ME!!

There's an awful lot to be said for taking charge of one's life. It's your health - don't just take a "professional's" word for everything - in the end, we have the responsibility for ourselves.

I was put on viibryd approximately 4 months ago and weaned off prozac to eliminate the extremely frustrating sexual side effects caused by prozac. I just started weaning myself off viibryd today. No difference with the sexual side effects on viibryd than the prozac. I cut my 40 mg pills in half and will take 20 mg for 5 days. Then i will cut the half pills again to have 10 mg pills for 5 days. Is that similar to how you weaned yourself off viibryd? Any help or advice is greatly appreciated. I cant afford a doctor appointment right now and then a follow up appointment again one month later as is the norm when i change/add/discontinue medications.

I decided to just take St John's Wart and go as natural as you can. Taking the Viibryd was a nightmare that I NEVER want to go through again! I now list it as something I am allergic to so I won't have to worry about the dangers of this drug ever again!

I was a huge advocate until my stomach issues from getting used to viibryd returned and I literally had an accident in my pants. I thought my period came early because I didn't even feel what happened. But no, to my surprise I had shat myself, at work, with no car to get me home because it was in the shop. I tell my dr and he says this is unheard of (stomach issues) I continue to tell him it has screwed up my cycles, he never heard of that either but I have been regular my whole life and Im not preggars. Lastly I tell him it has caused anorgasmia.. he insists I switch to celexa. Funny what his priorities were.

I want to add the my dr told me to take viibryd for the first two days of celexa. No weaning off besides that.

I started Viibryd a week ago. by day 3 I was a hot mess! If I ate something I had to run to the bathroom. Then it got worse. by day 4 my stomach started cramping up, Nashau, joints hurt me, I felt like I had the flu or a bad stomach virus. by day 6 I was like WTF?!?! A stomach virus usually last 24-48 hours so now I knew it wasn't that. My doctor beside putting me on Viibryd started me on Lamictal 3 weeks ago. So I said well if it were the Lamictal it would have happen sooner. So I read the blogs on this site and new right away it was the Viibryd! Omg the worst side effects I have ever had from an antidepressent and I have tried pretty much all of them. If your doctor suggests Viiybrd just say NO!!!

DIABETES??? I have been on Viibryd for about four months. I have not had the terrible side-effects reported here. However, at about the same time as I reached the maintenance dose of 40mg, my blood sugar went up, despite changing nothing in my life, and now I am diabetic (Type II) and taking Janumet. Has anyone else experienced this kind of issue? I'm 65 and I've been obese all my life, and diabetes runs in my family, but until I began the Viibryd, my typical blood sugar was around 122. Emes!
