i have been having trouble getting a good dr who will write oxycodone 30 mg. my back has been broken before and i was going all the way to Florida (a 16 hour drive) just to get my meds. So if anybody knows of any it would be helpful. i live in KY so as long as it is closer that's fine. Thank you.

Be very careful if you're using oxycodone without apap because there is a greater danger of overdosing (which is one reason we can' get pain medication anymore anyway) My doctor just gave me my medication with a lower dosage of APAP because it was safer on the liver. He said he would prescribie with no Tylenol if possible but that changes the class of drug it is. Methadone is sometimes used to help wean people off of opiods. I'm allergic to it so it won't help me. Oyxcodone is better at releiving internal type of main and hydrocodone is better at muscular pain. Any drug is scary and has side effects and in a perfect world, it would be great if we didn't need them. I was on Oxycontin for two months and I asked the doctor to please stop that. I wasn't myself. I was a walking zombie and I cried all the time. The withdrawal from just two months was awful. Scared to dead about withdrawal for medication (which I prefer to call it instead of drugs) I've been using for over fifteen years. Also scared to death about living with pain that is above a 7 level for the rest of my life. I'm addicted; I'm physically dependant. Some make it clear there is a difference and some say it's the same thing. It's just a difference in why I need it.

At least three of us on here have said we need to petition the government about the dangers and suffering they are putting on legitimate pain patients. A bunch of people went there about people dying from overdoses of prescription pain medication but I don't know anyone who has died of it. We have all the tools in place now to stop that. I wrote to my representatives, senators and even the white house. I got a reply from on state legislator and a form to fill out from a federal legislator. Since chronic patients don't feel like or have the money to go to Washington, the petition or letters are all we can do but they need more than mine. As I've said, I know we had abusers out there but now we have the steps in place to stop that. We don't need to have scared doctors. If standing up to Washington caused this for legitimate pain patients then standing up to Washington is what we have to do also. There are articles written that they knew this would hurt legitimate pain patients but they did it anyway. Someone spoke louder or more than we did and it's time we did the same. If I can't get replies maybe if others do it too, it might make a difference. I'm just one voice and if we're not afraid to write them, then we are legitimate pain patients - not druggies. Look up the name of you legislator and the contact for the white house. They all have ways to be contacted. The AMA has sent out some rules too so maybe we should contact them as well. We aren't allowed to give out email addreses but if we were, I'd give mine to get a petition started.

I replied and didn't think I said anything too specific but my reply hasn't shown up on here. I'll try again. Look on the internet for pain clinics in Lexington KY. It's on Nicholasville Road and if across from Central Baptist but up (or down, depending on your direction) from the hospital. It's like 1731 or some similar number. They have several doctors on staff. The waiting room is stuffed and you wait one or two hours to do a urine test. Then you wait longer to see a nurse, who has no compassion and then the doctor. They did not take my vital or examine me. He would have written out the script for five hydrocodone 10's but I said I didn't need them until this month. He told me to get my current medications down to five (from eight) and to stop taking my muscle relaxer but I would have withdrawals from that. Then he said that I would be require to have yearly PT, an MRI, a CAT scan and see a psychologist. I would have to come in every month but I would get five pills per day. I was not examined; only had the urine test and a lady sitting next to me, told me it was always that way. If you have your records, they will do a script for the amount I said and if you follow those rules (whether they read them or not). I didn't see the nurse very long and saw the doctor less but they sent my insurance company two bills; one for over twelve hundred dollars and one for over six hundred dollars. Those bills were coded with labs but I did nothing but listen to them talk for about five minutes. The lab on the urine test was also over six hundred dollars. My insurance doesn't pay that much but they paid more than they have to any other doctor or lab. The reason he gave me for getting my pills down by three was that I would be less likely to be hit over the head for my meds. Strange reason - like three pills would make a difference. Three pills makes a difference for THEM with the KY medical board. Hope this one works. Post again if you need me to try again.

The good ones in Lexington, and there were several, have closed their practice. The ones that are left do injections only and you have to have a referral. There is Bosomworth, the one at St. Joe and a couple of others if you look online. I know a bit about all of them. For meds, there is one called something like Central KY Pain Center on Nicholasville Rd. It is across the street and down a bit from Central Baptist (It's not affiliated with Central Baptist) I've posted this before so sorry for those reading it again. They require a referral, monthly drug test, yearly MRI and CAT scan and PT. There is a long wait to see the doctor and they will give no more than five pills per day but if you have the records to prove it and agree to the monthly and yearly guidelines, they will see you. They charge your insurance company more than any place I've ever been. (I don't understand those yearly requirements) To Cindy; who do you know in Western KY?

They don't let us put any phone numbers on here. Cindy gave a good answer for Western Kentucky and I was as specific as possible on the one on Nicholasville Road. There is a Doctor Gilbert there if that helps with your search on the internet. There are several still listed in Lexington but many of them have closed. The address is like 1731 but I'm not positive about that. Not sure this will go through. The hospitals have pain clinics that do injections only.

I don't know if you're referring to the doctor I mentioned, I just said that was what was available. I didn't say I would go to him. I did; saw him two minutes, was treated awful by his nurse, waited two hours and told a huge list of requirements and to get off my muscle relaxers and would prescribe me five pills a day - if I did all those requirements. I'm still reeling at the bill he sent to my insurance company and he require patients to come back every month. If he charged my insurance company that much every month, I can't believe it. Never examined me; never took my vitals. Barely looked at my records. Others say he is a good guy that has just got caught up in this whole pain pill mess but he seems to be getting rich off of it. If you're in KY, you're going to have a hard time finding a pain doctor that does anything but injections and if you've had the injections and they don't work, they won't see you. Legislature won't help us. I cut ties with the guy I mentioned so I'll probably be looking out of state. I have one injection left to try if they can code it for insurance. Insurance says if coded right, they will pay but they don't tell code. We have chronic pain and are on disability. We can't get help yet there isn't a high school student who couldn't find any drug you want in a matter of minutes. Does anyone think this is crazy besides me?

"Help it Hurts"... jesus christ you have to be kidding me. Your whole story is BS and I am glad there arent doctors out there stupid enough to listen to you. So you say that you had an existing condition but your records are missing in action. Then you go to a non english speaking country for surgery. You say that nobody there can provide records of it since nobody speaks english plus they left metal in you so you cant get MRI... so you say there is no way to "prove" something is wrong with you besides your suspiciously horrible sounding life. Get a life and stop drug seeking you loser!

Hello everyone, I live in south central KY I had a terrible car accident in 1992 that caused 2 herniated and ruptured disc in my lower back, over the past 2 decades was prescribed narcotics to deal with the terrible pain. I started with tramadol, lortabs, percs, fentanyl patches and then to oxycontin working thru the dosages on it. I'm not on here to give a sob story or looking for a pain dr I just thought maybe I could help someone because I've been there and have been judged by lots of people, I'm a professional I've got a engineering degree and worked in healthcare for the past 10 years, I've taken my Meds and maintained a productive life with no issues.
Here's the bad part I lost my job due to budget cuts and after a short period lost my insurance so I had to stop taking my Meds, I was taking oxycontin 80s x2 Dailey and it worked wonders (oxycontin when taken correctly is a god send) this was great while I had insurance but when I lost it the Meds alone was gonna cost me almost $1200 for 60 pills so I talked to my dr and ask if he'd change me over to the perc 30's he said sure and lowered my dosage to 4x 30s Dailey at a cost of $90, these hit hard on the onset but seem to rapidly goes away making the need for another tablet ( I myself think this is were addiction comes to play) well I did that for about 2 years and it's coming such a pain in the butt going to the dr then the pharmacy month after month I talked to my dr and told him I wanted to stop all together he said if you can then that's what we need to do and I'll help you (how many Drs can you say really want to help you and want to do what's best for you- I've got a great dr) he asked how I wanted to do it, I said let's start weaning down the dosage well we did that for a month or two and I decided to just go to the suboxone clinic so I did they wanted me to take two strips a day well with no insurance the sub clinic cost me around $1100 a month with Meds, drug testing, and office visit so I will only be able to go one month. As I said earlier they wanted me to take 2 strips a day, I started with 1/2 a strip 2x a day for a week then to 1/2 strip a day for a few days and then to notta my back hurts like a MF'er but I'm off all the narcotics.
I never thought I would be where I'm at today, with that said I know there are people out there that really need high dosages of Meds (I'm in no way judging you- hell I thought I needed them) but I also know these drugs really play with your mind and body, I thought the only way I could function was to have my medicine and if I was running low I worried about what I was gonna do when I run out, once again I'm not judging anyone I'm trying to help "I've walked in those shoes"
If you wake in the morning and the first thing you think of is your pills*****
Or if your almost out of pills and the last few ones do nothing for you******
Or if you could set a watch to the schedule your body tells you it's time to take one*****
If any of these things describe you please take a serious look at yourself you may not need them as. Ad as you think, now this in no way reflects with everyone but it did me my back is in terrible shape and it still hurts but I like the feeling without being chemically dependant, I hope this helps someone on here.
If someone really wants to stop taking opiates the suboxone clinic will help just don't substitute one drug for another on the long term, try to use half what they tell you to use if it works your good.
I hope this helps someone and God bless
I know it looks like no doctors care sometimes but they're out there that put patients first.

Where are you located, and not to pry into your business but what reasoning did the doctor give you for such a rapid dosage increase in pain medications. Most or should I say docs that actually care about their patients quality of life will taper slowly and that's only if there's legitimate reason for dosage reduction.
Primary reasons for decreased dosage are but not limited to are signs of dependence, asking for refills before its time, asking for dosage increase too fast, signs of withdrawal when you should have medication to spare and so on and so on.
In your condition it shouldn't be a problem getting a doc to write your a script but sounds as if you have been treated very aggressively with medication 6x 30mg with 15 mg for break thru is pretty aggressive treatment only places I've seen that would prescribe these amounts were Florida and detroit MI, Florida is harder to find a willing doctor to write these scripts and if your from out of state forget it but there are still some Drs in Detroit that will write them my experience is just take a day or so cruising the pain clinics in strip malls and the two tale tale signs are lots of out of state tags waiting and enhanced security for example I saw a clinic this past July that had 2 patrolling guards in the parking lot and the building itself was only about 5000 sq feet ( 2 armed guards in the same parking lot) later I found this clinic writes everything they have posters on the walls for you to point and say I'd like to try that.
