My Doc Will Not Refill My Xanax Im Feeling Sick (Page 10)

I was prescribed Prozac & Xanax 10 years ago by my psychiatrist for depression & severe panic attacks. He started me on 1mg 3 times a day. Around Dec 2005 he increased my daily dose to 1 mg - 4 times a day. I have been a patient of his now for 10 years where I see him every 3 months. Through the years, there has been a few times were I had to call to reschedule my appointment and a couple of times he had to do the same. He would call in my meds for the amount I would need to get me through to my next appointment. This month I had an appointment for May 27th I called to reschedule due to transportation. I do not drive now and my ride canceled on me. so, I rescheduled my app. for June 17th I then requested my meds be called in until my appointment, a 3 week supply. She said she would call me back when it was called in later that day. Not hearing anything I called back the next day to find out what was going on. I was told my doctor feels uncomfortable due to liability reasons to re-fill my medication, until I see him again in June. I asked her what about the liability to take me off medication I have been taking for 10 years? She told me to go to my primary physician to get my meds. I told her my primary care doctor will not prescribe me those medications without my medical records from this office and I just signed a medical release form a few days ago at my first appointment with this new primary doctor, so she told me to go to an urgent care if my symptoms became to uncomfortable for me to deal with!! I had enough xanax to last me until today. I took my last xanax this morning and I am already starting to feel sick, my head feels cloudy, I feel like I'm getting the flu. My heart is racing, I'm feel really anxious & closed in. Has anyone out there gone off xanax cold turkey what more should I expect? I don't understand how a doctor can prescribe medication like this for 10 years and just make you stop so suddenly it doesn't seem fair. I have lost trust in my doctor now and I don't think I can continue to be his patient anymore. I am scared and I don't know who to turn too.

Xanax is harder to get off of than opiates! MOST addictive medication out there. I went to so many behavioral health clinics, TRYING to get someone to help me wean off this anxiety med, because the shrink that prescribed it to me, got investigated by CT PUBLIC HEALTH. I was literally dying from him putting me on LITHIUM when he knew I had Hashimoto's thyroid disease. (misdiagnosed) He never ordered ANY blood work, and he got "consent orders", fines, forced to take classes and was overseen by another physician every 3 months. He ended up getting more "consent orders", but he was so rich, he bought his way out of every crime, and he is still out there writing prescriptions. He allowed his license to expire 4-5 times, and Public Health DID ZERO about that. He was practicing medicine, writing prescriptions WITHOUT A LICENSE!

The CT. AG Richard Blumenthal (at the time 2002) sued Dr. Peter Benet, to no avail. MONEY, MONEY, MONEY gets these horrible, killer doctors off every time. The system is corrupt and it goes out of its way to protect these reckless fools. Nobody wanted to take on his mistake. He was prescribing Xanax TID plus 5-6 other forms of anxiety and sleep medication. Every clinic said, "you could have a seizure and die". Then they started saying, "the patient before you is taking more time then I thought, so you will have to reschedule." Obviously, they were trying to drive me away by annoying me with the drive, and the long waiting room wait, just to turn me away. I went to MT SINAI in Hartford, CT and one nurse there, switched me from Xanax to klonopin. Klonopin is 2 steps down from Xanax, so not much of a remedy.

I am taking half of the 1 mg of Klonopin at bedtime. I CANNOT get off this either. These a-holes prescribe, then every doctor we see, acts like we bought it in the street. They seem to forget, IT WAS PRESCRIBED TO US BY A PHYSICIAN! Not stinking around to help you wean down, OR have you go to a 30 day facility is NEGLIGENCE, forget about deadly. How dangerous and unfair it is to treat us all so terribly. I am sick of the whole healthcare community and I can say, I do not have even ONE good doctor. They could all be sued for malpractice and negligence including my periodontist. YOU or anyone in this predicament need to report this to your states PUBLIC HEALTH, because they will investigate and hopefully refer you to or find a hospital to check into, to get the professional services needed to get off, the most addictive medication out there, and it is called XANAX! Steven Tyler of AEROSMITH, checked into REHAB more than 5 times to get off of Xanax, and he has the money and the connections to the best care out there.

It's not her doctor. It's because she has missed appointments and had to reschedule several times as the original poster stated. Its not the doctors fault that she can't get to her appointment. This is to the original poster...does your insurance company offer any type of transportation? I know if your on Medicare or Medicaid they do offer transportation to doctor visits. So you may want to call them and see about it.
Also Xanax withdraws is serious and you can have seizures from it. I would go to the er if your not able to get in with your doctor just so you have some on hand.
I would also suggest trying to get in with your doctor asap. I know this is a old post. But really can't blame the doctor on this. They have to protect their licence. I can understand if he called in a week's worth but not 3 weeks.good luck and I hope that everything worked out for you

@Billy... You're getting 120 xanax and 120 Klonopin a month? Is it from the same doctor? That sounds like alot. Please don't take this post as I'm judging you because I promise you I'm not. It's just I've never heard of a doctor giving 2 benzos like that. I've been on Klonopin for over 8 years 2mg 3 times a day. I prefer Klonopin over xanax because it seems to remain in my system longer than the xanax. I can actually skip doses of it and have went a few days without it with no withdrawal. I'm just amazed that you have a doctor that gives you that amount.

My situation is similar to Dawns. Only worse. I had an appointment with my psychiatrist. I have been taking Xanax for over 10 years for severe panic attacks 2 pills blue 1 Mg three times a day!!. And I would like to say to Vernon to not give any solutions to this matter unless he has severe panic attacks or huge anxiety attacks he should not be giving anyone ADVICE PERIOD!! About the Dr. He got sick 4 months ago.Was sent to another Dr and he gave me prescriptions for 3 months. He knows my Dr well. The two Dr's are friends! A letter was sent out from my Dr to all patients that he was sick and on undetermined medical leave April first. He has been gone 4 months now!!!!. We kept calling and the office manager first told us she did not know when he would be back. The wife who is a children's Psychiatrist would let her know when ( Our Dr her husband would be back ) We were finally told the first of July. Then told the first of August! Today called back and were told maybe in 4 months???? I mean it is ridiculous! The office manager told us one time when we called the Dr. was better and would be back. The we called her again when she told us to call back. And this is when she said it might be 4 more months. No one knows what illness my Dr. has. None of his patients know what is going on period. The office manager told us that the whole family was sick????? When a person take Xanax 6 pills a day for severe panic attacks withdrawals are horrendous !! I know because one time in this 10 years that I have been taking the pills my insurance CO. refuses to pay for them. I ran out. I think it was not even a week.And I was shaking so bad I could not even talk. I was throwing up, could not even walk right. Felt like I was dying. Horrible!!!! Just Horrible. So Vernon if you have not been in a situation like this you should not give out any advice. I had to start going back to the Dr and paying myself. It took well over 3 months and a lawyer to get the Xanax!! Now does anyone know what a Psychiatrist charges? One hundred and fifty dollars for a half hour. And you have to see him every 3 months at the latest to get your med's refilled . I don't know too many people that can afford that and the cost of the Xanax!! The position I am now in is that the nice Dr who saw me told me to go BACK TO MY regular Dr the first of July this year 2015. And my regular Dr's is now telling me this. He might not be coming back for 4 months!! It seems very unethical of my Dr to just leave his practice and not let anyone know what the hell is going on. The man is a Psychiatrist for Gods sake. His patients have mental problems Post Traumatic stress disorder. Panic attacks and on and on!!! And every time their office is called we are being given the run around for an answer!! The Dr they sent us to has a large practice of his own and told us to go back to my original Dr, in July!!! He can't take care of all of my Dr's patients too. I am really starting to panic now. My Dr is still out of the office for another 4 months. He should just shut down his office. I have been seeing this Dr for 10 years. Does anyone know how hard it is to try to change a Psychiatrist after 10 years??? They know nothing about you and unless they get your records and read all of them they do not believe you are even sick. And they are not going to read all of your records!! They don't have time to do that. And just one excuse after another why our Dr is not coming back or even when! Or at all ??? It seems to me that there should be some way to find out what is going on?? It wouldn't surprise me if this Dr's license had been revoked or suspended for some reason. He and his wife have both been reprimanded before. I looked it up on the computer! Scared to death and don't know what to do?? Our son sees this same Dr. And has a defibrillator in his chest to keep his heart from stopping!!! I am a nervous wreck about this too!! He has run out of the medications he takes too! He could actually die from this. And don't tell me to take him to the emergency room. They are not going to prescribe his medicine. I was in the hospital sick a couple of years ago. I started having a severe panic attack . They gave me one Xanax and told me they could only give me what the Dr ordered. This is one of the Dr's that just work in the hospital's only!!! Do you think they care??? No I cried all night and had severe panic attacks all night and again the next day!! I was going to pull out my IV get dressed and call a cab and go home. Because they were not giving me anything for my stomach virus but liquids through the IV. What is it that a person can suffer severe panic attacks that a Dr. or a hospital does not understand??? My regular Dr who is doing what God only knows told me years ago that one could not just quit taking Xanax with out being in the hospital to wean off the Xanax you could actually die from it!! Ge should know. He prescribes it for a lot of people. HELP! I do not know what to do. My son could die. I could die. Is it not very irresponsible of this Dr. I have been seeing for years to not even let us know what the heck is going on? Feel like reporting him to the medical board.. But it probably would not help. Does anyone know what I should do?? I talked to Donny Osmond when he was in town about panic attacks. He told me he had to go back on the Xanax because the panic attacks came back!! Severe panic attack are awful..JUST DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO? WORRIED ABOUT SON TOO!!! And not wanting to keep repeating myself but the emergency rook is no help. They might give you the medicine one day and that's it. Getting sick. need to get off of here and take 2 Xanax! Thanks if anyone knows what I should do. JUST NOE VERNON OR ANYONE WHO DOES NOT SUFFER PANIC ATTACKS!!!

I have panic disorder. Have had panic attacks many many tears and will likely the rest of my like. It is a chemical imballance that needs no cercumstace to cause a panic attack. Over 20 years every medication know to mankind has been tried and failed on me except for xanax. Now I face the same lable the Dawn person described. I can tell you this, I nearly died with out them once. I had hallucinations and could not think one year when I stopped abruptly from a high dose. Now years later the perfect small dose of .5 up to twice a day for panic and sleep as apposed to 3mg 3x a day in years past and I function well. My panic attacts can be treated by as little as 1/4 of .5 melted under my tounge. Now that said, Doctors are now switching from total well being of the patient to rules and guidlines. Who pays the price? Everybody. One by one people are being miss labeled and are up at 2am and my self for days at a time with zero help from a doctor untill nearlt 7 or 7+ days of shear hell. If a past sleep 'script were prescribed then possibly there would be no need for the xanax. When something give the patient quality of life, I question why do Doctors want to change meds know and proven to work? Is suffering and watching suffering fun for them?

My docter put me on morphine and I never asked for it.they never discussed what would happen if I stop taking it, l severe spine problems and that's why Im taking that medication anyways there has been more than several times my docter has not given me on time and he's doing it again telling me o well you will have to wait. What can I do? My dad died young from a fatel heart attack and I'm worried that will happen to me. I've lost my job because of this and my sanity

Nobody, My heart goes out to you. Panic attacks are really horrible. And if a person has not experienced t they cannot have any idea what hell you are going through! I will pray for you! I suffer from severe panic attacks for 10 years now too! It is very bad if you cannot get the medications you need. One feels like they are dying!

Sunny D. You are so right! It is miserable trying to get off of Xanax. If you son't have anything else to take you can even epileptic type attacks! No one can understand the side effects of getting off of Xanax unless they have tried to get off of it!

well I don't know if you have fixed your issue ,but from my knowledge taking Xanax for like 10 yrs ,if suddenly stopped ,about 2-3 days later I have a seizure,that is no joke ,nothing to fool around with,get a dr. who understands the serious consequences to help you A.S.A.P.

Stopping xanax cold turkey can kill you and yes it is that drs. obligation to see that doesn't happen. Benzos withdrawal is horrible but most importantly it is dangerous. A dr. cannot leave a patient in that position or he will have a liability, when he has a legal suit.

Yes it's true everyone! You cannot just quit taking xanax! It can make you have seizures! It is like a night mare to get off of them. You have to be weaned off of them! And the medicine the Dr. gives you to take their place should be monitored too. It might not agree with you. Everyone's body is different.Thanks for listening!!!!

Yes, xanax cold turkey IS LIFE THREATENING... I had a very scary siezure which I can easily describe was a near death experience. I had never had a seizure in my 37 years. I had not taken my 2 mg dose in two days ( panic and ptsd) was precribed 2mg 3x per day, had been taking about 6 months. Very scary which causes more anxiety to think that I must guard with my life. However, I know im too old fo this crap, but my boyfriend took off with about 1 weeks worth during a fight...Seizure SO SCARY AND NO CONTROL OF WHEN, WHERE, OR YOUR BODY WHEN IT STARTS. I peed in my bed, bit my lip and bled, EYES ROLLING, BODY CLENCHED, NOT BTEATHING, AWOKE AND DID NOT RECOGNIZE ANYONE AROUND ME FOR A GOOD ten to twenty minutes. Please everyone be very caredul, sont abuse, use as needed only. Or two days cold turkey and you could die

Mary I suffer from severe panic attacks too! They re a total nightmare! And if you cannot get something to relieve them you are going to feel like you are dying!!!! I find that xanax works the best. However my Dr is out on medical leave. I was sent to a new Dr. and they told me after 7 years xanax did not work anymore.Then they told me the DEA was looking in to too many xanax being given out??? They gave me Neurontin instead. I took it one night and I was paralyzed in my bed!!! I laid awake all night could not move any part of my body!! Scared me to death! Here my mind was working over and over What can I do? I could not even close my hands or move my feet. I called the nurse at the Dr's the next day and she said yes Neurontin 300 mg could make you have some kind of paralyzed condition!! So please be careful what you are given and what you take. If you can stay on a lighter dose of xanax and the Dr. will agree to it I my self would rather do that! People please listen. This is important!! Do you want to lay in bed all night and can't even move!! Thank-You for listening!!

I would like to say to nobody,The DEA Is supposedly cracking down on Xanax where I live! Arkansas.. And Dr's are being reprimanded for giving too many xanax out. I only take it if I go in to a panic attack. I have never upped my dosage! Or ask my Dr to up it!! My Dr is on leave. That is all I can say about him. And new Dr I am going to is changing all of my medications. I am getting real sick on the stuff he is giving me.I think everyone in the state you, or I live in should get up a petition to send to the DEA or the Government to ask that the kind Dr;s who give you only what you need in Xanax should not be persecuted !! Too many people are suffering!!Thank-You and good luck to you!

Here to help. Thank-You for your concern!! But how do you find a compassionate DR who understands the effect of withdrawl of xanax? Especially when the DEA is persecuting Dr'a who give their patients only what they need for severe panic attacks??

I would agree with you to an extent. A patient can be placed in imminent danger for abrupt discontinuance of certain medications such as benzodiazepines. Cold turkey withdrawal can result in significant medical issues such as life threatening seizures. Although your quoting laws these laws are put into place to help regulate unauthorized drugs from being prescribed not to allow physicians to decide if they do or don't feel like refilling a medication to someone with 10 years of history on it like this individual simply because they missed an appointment. 10 years is a long time. A doctor can refuse to treat but must provide a patient 30 days notice under federal law. I've been prescribed Valium for 4 years and can tell you the medication becomes dependent by nature. I only take it as prescribed and I work full time in a management capacity and am the single dad to an autistic child. If anyone insinuated that I was an "addict" or drug seeking behavior for any reason I would sue the pants off of them. Anyone putting me in any kind of danger over a prescription I'd own their house. Do a little more research. There is minimal risk to refilling a controlled substance medication the same one a patient has been on for over a decade simply without one appointment. It would cost significantly more money to treat him for an adverse reaction or potential hospitalization versus just issuing the script, and a defense lawyer and a judge would agree.

If the addicted person is either unwilling or unable to get additional Xanax, then withdrawal starts.
Remember, when you are taking Xanax your body is producing much less GABA-the body’s natural calming substance. Again depending on your DNA and metabolism, it can take a week or more before your body starts producing enough GABA to begin calming the body. When the calming effects of the last Xanax dose wear off in a few hours, THE WITHDRAWAL STARTS !!.
It is very unwise to try to withdraw from Xanax or any benzodiazepine on your own. Reports from people who have tried to just “stop taking” Xanax relate that they experience a very bad panic attack. Others withdrawing on their own from Xanax experience high blood pressure, a rapid heartbeat, uncontrollable tremors and sudden movements of their limbs, confusion, delirium, hallucinations and even seizures which can lead to DEATH. EVERYONE, I got this off of the computer!!! This is from NOVUS . Just google Novus UNDERSTANDING DRUG DEPENDENCE!! He said Xanax was one of the most insidious drugs there was. I know this sounds crazy. But I am telling the truth!! He said he got off of morphine easier than Xanax!! Looks to me like one needs to go to a rehab clinic to get off of it. I had a horrible panic attack yesterday starting around 4:00 pm. I made my self not take the Xanax until 12:00 midnight. I was really in bad shape. I kept telling my self that I can do this. By the time I took 3 of them I was to the point I couldn't hardly breathe.
