My Doc Will Not Refill My Xanax Im Feeling Sick (Page 9)

I was prescribed Prozac & Xanax 10 years ago by my psychiatrist for depression & severe panic attacks. He started me on 1mg 3 times a day. Around Dec 2005 he increased my daily dose to 1 mg - 4 times a day. I have been a patient of his now for 10 years where I see him every 3 months. Through the years, there has been a few times were I had to call to reschedule my appointment and a couple of times he had to do the same. He would call in my meds for the amount I would need to get me through to my next appointment. This month I had an appointment for May 27th I called to reschedule due to transportation. I do not drive now and my ride canceled on me. so, I rescheduled my app. for June 17th I then requested my meds be called in until my appointment, a 3 week supply. She said she would call me back when it was called in later that day. Not hearing anything I called back the next day to find out what was going on. I was told my doctor feels uncomfortable due to liability reasons to re-fill my medication, until I see him again in June. I asked her what about the liability to take me off medication I have been taking for 10 years? She told me to go to my primary physician to get my meds. I told her my primary care doctor will not prescribe me those medications without my medical records from this office and I just signed a medical release form a few days ago at my first appointment with this new primary doctor, so she told me to go to an urgent care if my symptoms became to uncomfortable for me to deal with!! I had enough xanax to last me until today. I took my last xanax this morning and I am already starting to feel sick, my head feels cloudy, I feel like I'm getting the flu. My heart is racing, I'm feel really anxious & closed in. Has anyone out there gone off xanax cold turkey what more should I expect? I don't understand how a doctor can prescribe medication like this for 10 years and just make you stop so suddenly it doesn't seem fair. I have lost trust in my doctor now and I don't think I can continue to be his patient anymore. I am scared and I don't know who to turn too.

I am not shocked, but I am a little dissapointed. If pharmasists are in the Buissness to help people, then why are innocent people being: 1). Injured by refusing needed medications( even if dr is calling and faxing, demanding it's nesesity. 2). Being inbarresed and ashamed infront of other customers as if they are drug addicts 3). Playing dr when the patient is seeing multiple specialists due to the severity of the injury. 4). Making rules as they go and informing patients when the issue arises 5). Not telling patients that missing one or two doses of there medicstion can be life threatening 6). Not telling the patient that they are refusing a drug that they may die from as a direct result of not having, also not directing them to go to the hospital immediately if going without. 7). If you believe a patient is lying to get there refill due to extream nausea 2 months in a row. Then you refuse even thowe they claim vometing violently to the point of hospitalization, but refuse to check their pharmacy history showing anti nausea and vometing meds from the emergeny room you filled, nor believe the doctor pleading with you, or check with other drs, you just refuse: it's your rite. THIS is SAD and CRIMINAL I understand you get lied to, and their are crappy drs but seriusly some of us are victims of the system. I don't want to take these meds, I was nearly killed by a drunk driver on my way to work. After 8 years I was suffering from stomach issues from meds, very common. I got a hietal hernia the 9 meds were adjitating and would vommet whole pills withen minutes. Although finally getting better to the point of returnig to work and life was then nearly killed again. This time the pharmasist refused to fill my medication 4 days early, even though my dr was aware and contacted them and they were notified when the script was dropped off. No one told me till I returned that my 3 mg each dose of xanax was being refused( even with dr on the phone and re-faxing several times). Well big shock I had a GRAND MAL SIEZURE and almost died it BROKE both shoulders and seep rated many muscles tendons and nerve and brain damage, I have forgot most if my life now and will never regain use of my arms or remember my childhood or deceased relatives, or hold my kid and throw ball. I'm no criminal I a rocket scientist / astronautical engineer who can't remember there work, type or write. If I am an addict it is because they made me one. It even says on the companies website that mussing 1ng can cause siezures, much less 6mg. I can see discussing a slow decrease safely and would have gladly cooperated. But there is no excuse I should loose life as I know it and fear death from seizures and suffer night terrors. How is this legal much less acceptable or bragged about. For the record I was never informed of the risk ever starting or forcing me to stop. They also knew that I couldn't obtain them anywhere else as we had discussed several times in the past it was rare and they orederd it just for me at that dose, I was also in a pain management contract to use one pharmacy as they know in this state. So by refusing they left me to die and I nearly did. I was in an induce COMA for weeks and will never recover. I thought getting hit by a drunk on my way to work crippling me permanently was bad, but knowingly putting me a risk of death and causing such extensive phisical and mental pain abd suffering should be a crime, at least the other guy had an excuse he was drunk not an arrogant.... I won't stoop to where you want me to so you can fit me with your addicts, I hope justice will be done and maybe some one else won't be hurt because of arrogant assumptions. I understand your dilemma, but we are not all criminals some of us are just victims of a broken system. Sory for the length and thanks for reading this.

Them taking you off your xanex cold turkey is a liability in its self. I would tell them that you want them to sign a release to talk to your lawyer. PUT A LITTLE SCARE IN THEM. GOING OFF ANY BENZODIAZEPINE IS DANGEROUS IN ITS SELF. YOU CAN HAVE SEIZURES AND EVEN DEATH.

To VERWON: Maybe you think you're being helpful, but you most certainly AREN'T, and worse yet, you are sadly misinformed yet presenting BS as "facts", and with a huge chip on your shoulder too. No need for this judgmental crap here, go somewhere else to spread your negativity and bad info. There is serious WITHDRAWAL associated with just stopping Zanax. Apparently you would expect her to meekly accept the fact that she will be very sick, and possibly dangerously sick (ever heard of a SEIZURE) without getting upset with the Dr's office? If someone told you, hey tomorrow, you will be throwing up and having seizures, would you just say "well, OK thanks", or would you push and ask questions? Addictive behavior? No. I'd call it legitimate fear and concern. I'll quote you again: "As to the withdrawals, the fact that you took your last pill in the morning and were already feeling them is not realistic. It takes a longer time period than that for it to process out of your body".... one of the benefits of Zanax for anxiety is that it kicks in quite quickly, but also leaves the body quickly. I'm sure that knowing she was out of meds CAUSED the person anxiety, but it's not unusual to experience withdrawal symptoms in less than a day when taking the doses that she does. And one more quote from you: "However, if you were not abusing it and just taking it as prescribed, the withdrawals may be miserable, but not truly dangerous to you physically." Are you kidding me? That's ridiculous. The body doesn't know the difference between "taking as prescribed" or "abuse".... if you feed your body five pills a day but you've only been prescribed three, your body doesn't know that you are taking more. It can't read the paper prescription. All your body knows is that the drug you take every day is no longer in your system at the dosage you were taking it. The drug still affects your brain, organs, mental functioning, digestive system... whether you take it as prescribed or take 5 times what's prescribed. The human body is not immune from withdrawal symptoms whether you take the prescribed amount or not. You will have withdrawal symptoms, period, if a drug is physically addicting and you take it for a certain length of time. You don't get a "pass" on being sick because you are taking a drug the way it's prescribed. I would suggest that you stop being so damn judgmental, and even more important, get your facts right before you post on a forum and try to act like a know it all. It's shameful, really.

yeah benzo withdrawal is hell. I've been on all the different benzos over the last 15 years, most recently Klonopin. I'm in much the same situation - my psychiatrist is $90 a visit I just lost my job and can no longer afford to see him. So, the last few weeks I've been receiving xanax from friends (only like 5 1-mg footballs here and there because they are NOT dealers and need their meds too!) I have been to 1 local ER who gave me a 2 day supply of Klonopin then to an Urgent Care place that gave me a 3 day supply, last night i ran out again and baught 2 xanax bars from a friend so today I'm going to try a different ER in hopes of getting at least a 2 week supply so I can taper myself off slowly. I'm on the waiting list for a local detox center which is known for getting people off benzos safely and for good but its going to be at least another 2 weeks to a month before I optimoptimistically can expect to get in. It is such a revolving door nightmare dealing withBenzos because you are basically looked at as a drug addict when you go to an ER to ask for help and they consider it drug seeking behavior which I guess it is, but hell its the doctors faults for getting us started in the first place and then cutting us off (in this case I'm talking more about your situation than mine though I have gone thru that exact same scenario in the past). Good luck to you, I hope you found a solution. As for me, until I get into detox I will continue to go to ERs in my area (Chicagoland) and ask help from friends. All I can do!

That Verwon doesn't know what he's talking about. Sounds like he's just parroting something he's read that is not true, or he just thinks he knows although he's never experienced it.
You will start withdrawal soon, same day with xanax. It will get very bad, unbearable. You need to get some and taper off slowly, over months. I'M did cold turkey once and couldn't leave my apt for 10days, no appetite, anxiety that was terror. Non-functional.

File a civil suit against your psychiatrist. He displayed clear negligence here. He over prescribed you. Following that, he titrated you up even further to more extreme amounts.

Any psychiatrist worth their weight in Salt should be aware of the extreme danger that coincides with stopping Xanax cold turkey. If you're doctor is not aware of that, he is incompetent and you should look into a malpractice suit. Stopping Xanax cold turkey after such heavy use (started by your primary psychiatrist) is not only extremely uncomfortable for the patient; but could result in serious adverse medical effects. Dr's are almost certain and even DEATH has been reported. For your psychiatrist to stop prescribing it cold turkey is absolutely atrocious.

I recommend hiring a criminal negligence lawyer and/or a malpractice lawyer. What your doctor has done displays clear ineptitude only further demonstrated by suggesting if your symptoms get so severe that you should go to a doc in the box.

Stand up for yourself here. Malpractice is the bane of the medical community. It raises eyebrows. Their are documented cases of civil suits pending against psychiatrists/primary care physicians that beging a Xanax regimen and then refusing to even help ween their own patients off of it. Again if your psychiatrist isn't aware of the potential dangers of a cold turkey Xanax regiment cessation that is incompetence; and may very well be grounds for a malpractice suit. I would tell your psychiatrist you are looking into a civil suit with a malpractice lawyer. Incompetent MD's are a plauge and should be removed when possible. Nothing changes the tone of a doctor like the threat of malpractice/negligence. Best of luck.

i am on a very high dose of gabapentin, ive been on it for 3 years.I am on vacation in North Carolina i live in Kentucky. i went to my doctor the day of my departure and informed him id be leaving for three weeks. well he gave me all my medicine i get to NC. start unpacking...no meds.. my dad didnt grab them off the kitchen table like i asked while i was packing the car. Ive never ever been without these meds and today i started feeling very disoriented and as if my face was going to burst into flames i called my doc and asked if he can call in a vacation supply and he says NO flat out no. now i am lost i just dont know what i can do i feel like 3 weeks without will kill me. these doctors are cruel hearted they only care about the almighty dollar they get us hooked n set back on their millions while we suffer.

Sick at Heart, get to an Urgent care Center or an E.R. at once. You can become very sick and each new day produces a different withdrawal effect. Today I just saw my Doctor and he wrote for 270 (1 month) with a one month refill. If you have any refills you can transfer them, When you get back home, if you get back home fire your Doctor.

Sick at Heart, this is the Xanax forum so my advice does not apply. I do know the Neurontin seemed like a horrible drug and there are many Legal firms who will help you sue the maker and possibly the Doctor too. Bad stuff!

hello I'm having the same issue with Xanax I don't abuse it but I recently lost my job and can't afford the $150 fee to see my doctor on a weekly basis.

I have run out of my meds and Im having extremely bad panic attacks and shacks never felt this way before and since I took it as recommended I never thought I would be effected this way.

my question is you said on your post to go to the E.R what exactly should I tell the e.r doctors

Let the E.R department run their tests. If you are like me it is hard to fake the results and they might want to keep you for observation. Make it clear you stopped taking your medicine and haven't felt quite right since

Be very careful coming off the Xanax. Do not " Cold Turkey". If you don't have any piles beg and borrow to keep at least some of the chemical in your system to wean yourself? My pain management told me I could have one or the other pain meds or Xanax. This is totally irresponsible, people will be doing whatever they have to to get there meds. My pain med told me to get a primary doctor to write my non pain medicines. I did and the new doctor said that definitely needed the Xanax and wrote the prescription. I went back to pain management and my U/A showed Xanax like I knew it would. I was informed that I had 2 months to come of Xanax or my pain meds would be cut off. They told me to get a primary Dr. to write my other Rx. I did that a now I have to jump thru another hoop. Know I have to go to psychiatrist to get him to write the Xanax. I raised hell. there is another pain management in my town and they write Xanax and pain meds all day long. I told the PA this and she says company policy. F*** company policy, I was feeling better and anger issues went away with Xanax so don't take my medicine that help. I'm only on 3 1 mg a day AND that is nothing to compared to most others.

I took a U/A that came back with nothing but Xanax. Don't these Dr have better things to do, go ring somebody with street drugs and harass them. Leave me alone. I'm just doing what a Dr told me to do. When I started taking Xanax it was a difficult time. I would get mad and punch a hole in the wall. My psychiatrist at the time said" Barry do want to go to jail and I said no, he told me to take Xanax and quit knocking holes in walls. This worked great for me. Anybody that has been hurt for a long period of time needs some help, getting thru the day. If they take all of or Xanax away things will get crazy fighting, rioting and all kinds of things Xanax helps with. I would go to marijuana IF LEGAL but it's not. Does anyone know of someone that died of Xanax and opiates? Probably not, because these TV lawyers would be on there promising a sack of gold if there was a real problem. Did you take Xanax and pain pills at the same time. CALL 1800BULLS***. THIS IS NOT A GOVERNMENT MANDATE. IT'S JUST SOME PAIN MANAGEMENT FACILITIES HAVE TO BE A PAIN IN THE ASS.

I was on xanax for 15 years and my doctor did the same thing I was taking 2 2mg tables per day and she cut me off cold turkey and since I got cut I have seizures 2or3 every day and I am scared and I don't know what to do.

WOW, your entire reply was horribly incorrect; the only fact being your ignorance. This was especially laughable after reading you rant about how it was the OPs "fault" for missing the appointment:

Yeah.. Uhmmm.. This could not be more far from reality. I was prescribed xanax for 8 years and I did not abuse it, but upon a very slow tapering, I started having seizures that are now years later still uncontrolled. It's a little known fact that BENZO withdrawl for regular users and short term users a like, is aside from alcohol withdrawl, one of the most dangerous drugs to get off of and the "Doctor", if you can call him that, KNOWS this. He's horribly irresponsible and needs to lose his license. I have no respect for people in the medical profession that abuse their power like this.

That is ridiculous. It is the doctors who put people on these drugs in the first place and continue to increase the dose. The addiction comes from taking these as prescribed, not abuse. It is extremely dangerous to quit this medication cold turkey and no doctor with any decency would ever expect someone to do this.

Help me anyone!! I was at the emergency room on May 27 2015!! They prescribe me to Xanax only 12 was in the bottle and I have been taking it for 10 days! I stop taking it two days ago because I don't want to get attached to it! I have read everyone replies and everything but it like they took it for years and years and I just want to hear from someone who just took it for a couple of days! How did your body react! Did you have a seizure? I'm scared and need answers now!! I don't want anything to happen to me

Someone please tell me of a reliable site that I may get alprazolam with no rx!!! Been prescribed them for over 15 years and need another way to get them for my anxiety and panic attacks. My Dr isn't available always and doesn't take insurance anyways. Anytime I try to get from a pcp they just think I'm seeking a high which couldn't be farther from the truth. This is the only thing that works for my social anxiety and benign tremors. I used to find reliable online sources ten years ago but the last ones I have tried took my money and ran. I will never pay my money pak again ....Thanks in advance for any info!

Are you a self proclaimed expert on Xanax withdrawal? Have you experienced it yourself? You can most certainly begin to have withdrawal symptoms after your most recent dose wears off. And of course the more time that passes the worse it gets. I have been on .50 three times a day for over ten years. Sometimes I get busy and forget a dose at the proper time. I won't even be thinking about it until the withdrawal symptoms kick in. Usually at about 7 hours. Tightness in my chest, shortness of breath, Rapid heartbeat.... If I was taken off cold turkey I doubt I'd make it through one night without winding up in the emergency room. My doctor even said I could be in trouble if I ever ran out and couldn't get a refill. She said I could have a seizure or worse. It's nothing to plat with or make light of and her symptoms are NOT in her head or being brought on by her own anxiety about not having her Xanax.
