I have been on it for 2 months and the side effects have been awful. I couldn't stand it any more. I stopped taking it last Wednesday. It's been 5 days. I now have swollen ankles. Is this something to worry about? What is the risk of stopping and how long does it take to get it out of your system? ## Hello, Lindyann! How are you? Yes, you shouldn't have stopped it abruptly, because that can cause a rebound effect, such as what you're experiencing with the edema. You may also have dangerously elevated blood pressure. Please consult your doctor as soon as possible to have things checked out for your own safety. You may require medical treatment and will need to try a different blood pressure medication. Are there any other questions or concerns? ## hello..ive been taking l...

Hi I’ve been taking 50mg losartan for almost a year and BP was avg 128/89 then it went up to 140/100. My Dr upped it to 100mg and after a week it went up a little more. How long does it take for the medicine to start working and should it start working sooner since I’ve been taking losartan previously? ## @SW, You mentioned that you've been taking 50mg losartan for almost a year before it stopped working as effectively... I'm just under the unique impression that perhaps your body built a tolerance to it over time and that's why your blood pressure was gradually going back up? I've never heard of any medication taking a year to start working, so this is the only plausible explanation I can think of. Have you already discussed this with your prescribing doctor...
I have had high BP for some time, treated with 10 mg Ramipril. The readings have always remained on the high side. Today the GP has prescribed 5mg Amlodipine to be taken in combination with Ramipril. Does anyone have any personal experience of this? Reading the side effects of Amlodipine seems a bit scary. ## Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker and it has about the same risk of causing side effects as the Ramipril that you're already taking. However, the most important fact of relevance is that it's far more dangerous to let your blood pressure remain high than any possible side effects you may experience from a medication. Letting it remain high risks damage to your heart, which may be permanent, it also creates the risk of stroke, heart attack, congestive heart failure and...
I'm trying to identify a white oval pill with irpm on one side and 121 on the other. It was given to me as a blood pressure prescription, but from what I'm reading it's for pain. ## Hi Lloyd, can you please confirm the imprint? In the title you wrote "rph 121", but in your message you wrote "irpm on one side and 121 on the other". I also see a related thread on this site asking a similar question about a white pill with "rph 121" and they stated that this is a Canadian medication. Is that the case for you too? Lastly, where were you reading that this is for pain? Do you have any other details about the manufacturer or drug name that could be used as a cross reference? ## It is purchased in Canada. Just wanted to be sure it's for blood pressure. ##...
drug ## Is aprovil a good drug for controlling high blood pressure? If so, how does compare too verapamil ## Aprovel contains the active ingredient Irbesartan, which is used to treat high blood pressure, stroke, and certain cardiac conditions. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, diarrhea, stomach, pain, and hypotension. Verapamil is a different medication, but it is used to treat similar medical conditions. Overall, it really depends on what works best for the patient in question. How is this medication working for you?
Has anyone experienced side effects from taking Chlorthalidone? ## Can Chlorthalidone 25 mg and Lotensin 20mg combined cause mild angina in a 64 year old females? I recently developed angina after taking these combined medications. The angina happens at rest. ## The FDA has approved Chlorthalidone to treat congestive heart failure, and high blood pressure. They list its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, increased urination, hypotension, headache, and dehydration. Greengoat, it is more likely that you were going to develop it, anyway. These medications are most commonly used to treat it, not cause it, according to NIH studies. How long have you been taking them?
I am experiencing symptoms similar to those on a bad smog day. I smell what seems to be strong exhaust; my eyes burn/tear, my throat gets scratchy, and my lungs feel irritated. I took my car into the shop and there is no exhaust leak. I notice the smell at first in my car but can now sometimes experience the odor in my home. I started this medication at about the same time the symptoms began...seems like there could be a connection... ## The possible number of side effects of this drug appear to be worse than what you may be trying to treat! I could write a short essay by pasting the side effects of this drug on a paper. Although none of the side effects directly state what you are experiencing, I am more than certain that this medication is the cause. Possibly another side effect liste...
My husband takes Coreg for blood pressure and he also was just given avalide with it. Isn't Avalide the same kink of drug? ## has anyone out there taken methadone (im on 140 mgs) and phentermine together? if so what kind of experience did you have? i have been on methadone for 5 years and gained almost 60 lbs but i am scared to start the phentermine i was prescribed! please help! ## Coreg contains Carvedilol, and Avalide contains Irbesartan and Hydrochlorothiazide, so they are not exactly the same, though both are used to treat high blood pressure and certain cardiac conditions. Multiple medications are often prescribed, when someone's blood pressure is dangerously high, to help bring it down as fast, and as safely as possibly. Once it is at a normal level, medications can be lo...
Small round white pill. 236 on one side and 16 on the other ## Are you absolutely sure of the imprint? I can find nothing with that imprint in what you describe. There are 236 and 286 imprint pills but nothing with 16, IP, ip, etc. I don't believe they are from the U.S. Since the imprint doesn't match the U.S. Ones. Wish I could help more. I tried just looking at the 236 but still didn't find much. None I found were a narcotic, that's for sure, but that doesn't mean they are safe! ## Is is possible that the imprint is IG 238? If so that tablet is listed by InvaGen Pharmaceuticals as containing 5mgs of Amlodipine, which is most commonly used to treat high blood pressure and certain cardiac conditions. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea...
Does this drug loose its effectiveness if it is split in half like 90 days before taking it? Also will taking tums (2 - 750 mg tablets) with this drug reduce its effectiveness? ## This is a time released formulation of Metoprolol, so it needs to be taken whole, the tablets should not be cut or broken, because that could cause you to get too much of the medication, at once. If you have a tablet that's been cut or broken, you should discard it. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and hypotension. And yes, Tums will reduce it's efficacy, so if you need an antacid you should look for an alternative. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Hi Mom... I also take 100mg of Metoprolol ER. If y...
Cannot tolerate ACE inhibitors (24 hrs of coughing) nor calcium channel blockers (little help; leg swelling). On Benicar HCT and have persistent sinus problems and coughing that do not respond to allergy or sinus medications. Doc insists that the benicar is not the reason! Anyone else had this problem? How did you solve it? ## I have the same problem, am on Norvacs...a nurse friend told me it was probably the bp meds but I can find nothing to substantiate that. Help!!! ## Is it safe to take 2 pyridoxine 25mg plus 1 bilocor 5mg twice daily, over 50yrs female to lower blood pressure? ## Yes, these medications have been known to cause sinus issues, as reported by the FDA, which may include drainage, stuffiness, and congestion. I've experienced it myself, taking Candesartan, and Losarta...
