I am now down to one morning dose a day and ready to stop completely (after 6 months) and am feeling ok ## Any drug or substance that you take into your body for a prolonged period of time will cause some mild withdrawal symptoms if you abruptly stop using it, even if they don't consider it addictive. Because your body gets used ...

7 REPLIES UpdatedHi, I was taking propranolol to help with anxiety. Dosage was dependent on how bad anxiety was on any given day. I was struggling with self-esteem, so visited a hair clinic for help with thinning hair. One of the things that I was given by the clinic was Minoxidil 10%, which is a product proven to help stimulate hair regrowth (see Rogaine). This product was applied to the scalp twice a day, morning and night. Within a few days of using the Minoxidil, I started to feel chronic fatigue, which literally knocked me off my feet. I also went into a really deep depression. Something was not right! I took to Dr Google lol. Very quickly, I found that chronic fatigue and depression are two symptoms of very low blood pressure. Fortunately, I own a BP monitor and took some readings. My usual restin...
1 REPLY UpdatedMy doctor switched me over from the tablet to the sustained release capsules and doubled my dose from 80mg to 80mg twice a day. Somehow my heart arrhythmia has gotten worse. I am unable to sleep because my heart will not stop fluttering and I feel out of breath and weak. My GP says this is normal (I'm unable to contact my cardiologist) and is just a result of my body getting used to a higher dose and to just wait it out. But how does that make sense?? How can a higher dose make my symptoms worse? I only asked for something to be changed as I would get some mild fluttering night when my medication wore off that was irritating, this is beyond mild and is even happening two hours after I took the medication. Is this really just my body getting used to a higher dose? ## Palpitations can...

Propanolol is used to treat high blood pressure, because it helps to lower it. Learn more Propranolol details here. And it can cause a false positive for Amphetamines, but I can't really explain the specifics of why. 2 REPLIES UpdatedHaving trouble sleeping at night and was wondering if propranolol would help as they slow your heart beat? ## No, it is not safe to try to use them to induce sleep. Propranolol can cause some drowsiness as a side effect, but it is actually most commonly used to help lower high blood pressure and improper use of it can be dangerous, due to the fact that it can lower your heart rate and blood pressure. You can learn more Propranolol details here. Thus, the first thing you need to do is get to the root of the problem. What is causing you to have trouble sleeping? Have you tried cutting out stimulants after 3pm, such as caffeine, chocolate and sugars? 3 REPLIES UpdatedCan Pur-Bloka or it's generic be bought over the counter? What alternatives are there to Pur-Bloka? I'm using it once a day for mild nervousness. ## Pur-Bloka contains the active ingredient Propranolol, it is a beta blocker, which is most commonly used to treat high blood pressure and cardiac related conditions. Thus, I am not sure how it is supposed to help with nervousness of any type. In the U.S. and other countries that regulate their medications, it is only available by prescription. 7 REPLIES UpdatedI am having a big problem with a high heart rate since the doctor put me on mega doses of vitamin D. Has anyone had this problem? ## Was your rate shown to be severely low by actual blood tests? MedlinePlus has an article about vitamin D toxicity, though it doesn't cover all the causes and symptoms. However, it is a real problem that it becoming more and more prevalent, due to the habit many people have of thinking it is safe to take supplements in high amounts. Since it can cause high blood pressure, elevated heart rate has been known to go along with it, since your heart has to work harder. Have you actually had your heart rate checked, or does it just feel like it is racing? ## I never have low heart rate, usually too high so I have to take propranolol. I have had my thyroid rem...

4 REPLIES UpdatedI've been taking propranolol 80mg once a day for over 2 years for anxiety that caused me to have severe chest pain and to feel dizzy. It definitely made me feel better but the cause of my anxiety was due to where i worked and now I have moved work to somewhere that is a big advocate of helping employers with mental health. This has greatly helped the mental side of my anxiety so now I want to stop taking them before I become too dependent on them. What I want to know is are the side effects you get from it really bad or does it depend on the person. I dont want to stop and all the feelings i used to get come rushing back. Thank you for any advice. ## It can depend on the person, but it is always best to taper such a medication, since the NIH warns that stopping it abruptly could cau...

1 REPLY UpdatedAdult male here. About 5 years ago i quit drinking. Anxiety, panic attacks, migraines and PTSD resurfaced. Went to the doctor and the waiting room triggered me. As a normal physiological response to a perceived threat, my BP rose. Now in the doctors office, they look at my BP and say "wow it's so high!" I try to explain but since it wasn't on file... got prescribed propranolol. 10mg twice a day. Would get migraine in the afternoon so this was increased to 10mg 3 times a day / every 6 hours. Starting off with the side effects. It's like my lungs are coated in cement. Very hard to breath. Lung capacity has been reduced to about 30-50% of it's normal function. I told the doctor this she aid "Ya, it'll do that to ya!" casually... This has not gone away bu...
