I've been taking Propranolol 40mg tablets 3x a day. My doctor has switched me to 120mgs Propranolol extended release. Is there any difference other than one being instant and the other extended? ## Hello, Triss! How are you? No, that's it. The one was regular release and the ER is slowly released over the given time period. Time released medications can help give better blood pressure or cardiac control and increase medication compliance, since they don't have to be taken as often. Propranolol is a beta blocker that's most commonly used to treat high blood pressure and certain cardiac conditions. Typical side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, hypotension, stomach pain and increased urination. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I'm doing well. T...
I have been taking Propanolol for 10 years for high blood pressure. Recently I switched from my regular pharmacy to Walmart. I took the Walmart prescription for a couple weeks. I wasn't feeling well at all, I was getting sporadic pains in my neck, jaw, shoulders and arms. When I first thought that maybe the medicine was wrong, I Googled the imprint on the pill, and found it was propanolol. I had some of the medicine from my original pharmacy so I decided to go back to that to see if there was any difference. All of the pain and general ill feeling went away. I was shocked, and had my doctor call me in a new prescription at my regular pharmacy today. what I would like to know is what could be in that medicine to cause that? Is there anywhere to have a pill analyzed to see what is in i...
I want to stop taking metoprolol ext rel 100 mg. after taking this my legs feel very heavy and stuff joints , can hardly walk. Also very dry mouth, headaches and light tingling of fingers. I am taking this for high blood pressure. How do I get off of this? ## Hello, Linda! How are you? Metoprolol is a beta blocker and it can cause those types of side effects in some people that take it, along with nausea, dizziness, hypotension, hair loss and stomach pain. However, when taking something for high blood pressure, it is very important to not just stop taking it, without replacing it with another medication. If you stop abruptly, it may cause rebound effects, which could include elevated heart rate and blood pressure that could lead to heart attack or stroke. Thus, the best thing to do woul...
I have a terrible problem of retaining fluid during the day where to the point I can gain 5 kg as I only urinate once or twice after consuming at least 2 1/2 litre of water per day. My doctor prescribed me spiractin and frusemide at different times, he didnt tell me to take them concurrently, so I was wondering if it I could take these both during the day for the duiretic needs to stop from gaining so much fluid weight during the day without causing any side effects. My potassium levels are fine but my kidneys have slowed a bit owing to age. As I have lost a total weight of 80kg over the past two years and have worked hard to maintain it, I am a bit reticent to stop taking these tablets as I do not want to gain any of the weight I have lost. I attended a vascular surgeon to see if an op...
Found half pill in house I'm cleaning wondering what it is its 23 on the half I have on other side it looks like a G but the other is missing ## Hello, Raydogg! How are you? From your description, I have a suspicion that you've found half of an Amlodipine tablet, there are 2 available that would have the logo IG on one side and numbers that start with 23 on the other, a 5mg one with 238 and a 10mg one with 239 on it, both are round and white. Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker that's most commonly used to treat high blood pressure and certain cardiac conditions. Side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, stomach pain, dry cough, increase urination and hypotension. I can't be certain, of course, since you only have half of the tablet, but that's the ne...

UpdatedCan I take "V 3109" with Lisinopril, Hydrochlorothiazide and Amoxicillin? ## Hello, Sara! How are you? The main interaction is actually between the Hydrochlorothiazide and the Amoxicillin, they both tend to increase the effects of the other. That's not necessarily a problem with the antibiotic, but it could cause you to become dehydrated from the Hydrochlorothiazide, so you do need to be aware of that and be careful of it by maintaining your fluid intake to prevent it. The tablet with the 3109 V marking contains 325mgs of Acetaminophen, 40mgs of Butalbital, 40mgs of Caffeine and 30mgs of Codeine, it is a narcotic that's most commonly used to treat migraines, This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as naus...

I take losartan-hctz100-25mg 1 a day. Could this make me lose my hair? Have been on it for 2 months and starting to lose my hair Is this a side effect? Also take verapamil er 240mg for around 2 years. ## Hi jenny, According to The National Library of Medicine, Losartan can in fact cause alopecia (hair loss) as a side effect. It doesn't appear to be very common though since this side effect is not listed in other directories, but it does happen. If it becomes unbearable, you may want to consider switching medications or looking into a natural alternative that may be safer to use in the long run. Have you had a chance to discuss this concern with your doctor yet? ## Am on Losartan, Inderal, clonidine, I have been on these for 3 years and have lost over half of my hair, are there alter...

My daughter has a pacemaker due to electrical problems with her heart from the Mustard Procedure for Transposition of the Great Arteries. She is 24 and has had the PaceMaker fo 2 years. Within the last few months she had 1 life threatening low heart rate. Will metoprolol success er help prevent the low rate. If she continues to have low rate may need to put in a defribilator. ## Hello, Clide! How are you and your daughter? It's actually succinate, not success, but anyway, it could actually cause her heart rate to go low, so it's kind of iffy. These beta blockers can sometimes cause low heart rate as a side effect, along with nausea, dizziness, headache and stomach pain. Has it been prescribed for her? She might do better with something that just helps with overall heart function...
74 y /o female diagnosed with vit D2 def-cy and prescribed Vit D2 50000IU/week.Before that developed signs of facial swelling and 1 episode of hypotension and ? allergic reaction.Labs- pending. Should she take VitD2 or Vit D3? ## Hello, Rya! How are you? She should take the one her doctor has prescribed. But the high dosage may cause some nausea and dizziness. They are two different forms of Vitamin D and, at her age, there is likely good reason her doctor has specifically prescribed D2 and not D3. Is she on any other medications?

He takes Carbodopa/Levodopa 25mg/100mg 2.5 tabs 3 times a day, 75mg Seroquel per day, 5mg Donepezil per day, 5mg Ramipril per day. On July 28th 2014 and October 08 2014 my father had syncopal incidents (passed out). Both times were in the morning after eating breakfast and taking 8am meds. Both times he was sitting down calmly relaxing and both times he lossed consciousness and was taken by ambulance to the hospital. He has had multiple diagnostics done like UTI, chest X-rays, Echocardiogram, Carotid sonargram, blood work, MRI with and wihtout contrast and CTs of his brain. All of these are negative for any physical problem. He is active and walks every day and physically he is in good shape. The only surgery he ...
