Adderall Backorder (Page 54)

Updated

I take generic Adderall 20 mg for narcolepsy and there is not one local pharmacy that has it in stock. I have never had this problem before. The pharmacies are saying that it's on backorder from the manufacturer. Is anyone else having problems getting their scripts filled?

Re: Rcma (# 1059) Expand Referenced Message

If they were resolved on May 31st, why are we still having issues over a week into June?

Supply shortage ends. Manufacturing. Bottling. Shipping to Suppliers. Shipping to pharmacies. 50 states. 100s of Millions of Rx's.

Things don't happen in a week.

Re: Rcma (# 1062) Expand Referenced Message

At what point in that process do they claim that the shortage has ended though? Do they say the shortage ends the moment the manufacturer signs for a new order? When the batches are done? When they’re out on the roads? To me, shortage as a consumer doesn’t end until the product is on the shelves, any other claim just feels misleading. I just want to get back to productively working nine hour days instead of this limbo I find myself in.

I have called customer service at the manufacturers in past. And THEY tell me their manufacturing and shipping status. They've been helpful. TEVA especially gave me specific info a Year ago.

The FDA site lists Teva, Mylan, Lannett, Aurobindo, Sandoz and contact #s.

I called Rhodes when I got their product last month.

I agree.
EXTREMELY frustrating.
Shortages happen. The DEA only allows so much amphetamine. Regulated Limited supply. But MDs keep writing scripts and demand is growing.

It is also important to consider delays in shipping that are seen with so many things now.

Re: BlessedLady (# 1052) Expand Referenced Message

No! That can't be. I am 75 and have been taking since 1999. I did well on the brand until the cost skyrocketed and I had to take generic. The ones I am getting now aren't very good. They do not "handle" my executive dysfunction. My health is okay. Controlled hypertension and disc issues in spine. I do have other mental health issues PTSD, GAD, social anxiety disorder, personality disorder. I have difficulty making phone calls and going places. Maybe they prefer we take street drugs and hope we overdose so they don't have to pay for our care. I am so disgusted with the DEA. I hope that is not true. I went on disability in 1997 for mental health issues. Took me that long to find out why I struggled so much both as a child and adult.

Re: Cyr (# 1067) Expand Referenced Message

I know it is true for some patients. A lot depends on the doctor and patient. Walgreens and other stores that have NarxCare also seem to play a part. Stimulants like Adderall are not recommended for those 65 and older. Walgreens sends doctors messages regarding dangerous drugs they prescribe. I guess their line of thinking is if you are no longer working. You do not need them.

How dare they. They're a dispensary. That's it. It's called c.y.a. from their Legal department.

Unreal.

But they'll sell ya high fat candy, high fructose corn syrup, and every other poison in the edibles section.

Re: BlessedLady (# 1068) Expand Referenced Message

Hmmm, but 85 year old men can still take Viagra. Male dominated world. I took Adderall for 23 years without having a job. Doesn't mean I did not have work to do around my home. The drug is not dangerous if taken as prescribed They can prescribe new stimulants for new patients.

Re: Rcma (# 1050) Expand Referenced Message

Good thought but I take 3-20mg per day. Or 2-30 mg. So still close to $500. That is for brand name the generic is $42/mo on Medicare.

Re: Cyr (# 1070) Expand Referenced Message

Doctors do not want questions asked if a older patient dies of a heart attack while taking a stimulant they prescribed. I understand what you mean about doing things around the house. But people are not paying the same in taxes after they retire as they were before. Most patients 65 and older have high blood pressure and/or cardiac problems.

Re: BlessedLady (# 1072) Expand Referenced Message

Disclaimer: I value forums like this and what follows is said with respect.

As a 55+ patient who has experienced a broad sampling of medical practitioner personalities ("bedside manners"), of MANY ages, genders, sexual and religious orientations, races, ethnicities, geographics, yrs of experience, and specialties, it is my understanding that:

Following a proper, through empirical evaluation of their overall health, existing conditions, medical history, current medications, known risk factors, lifestyle (alcohol consumption, etc), and other factors determining a BIOLOGICAL (vs chronological) age, a medically ethical doctor acts in the best interest of the patient and their quality of life -- not in the self-serving interest of low malpractice insurance rates, or appearances. It's outrageous to me that a doctor would determine a treatment plan based on ignorance and prejudices and unscientific assumptions. Risk assessments aren't based on chronological age. A sedentary 35 yo chain smoker on a high fat and sugar diet with a family history or cad and diabetes is likely more likely to drop dead from Adderall than a generally healthy, fit 65 yo w/o hypertension and no family history of CAD.

Ageism is as bad as sexism, racism etc. If a doctor, as policy, doesn't prescribe psych meds without a specialist's evaluation, then fine. But making general assumptions about a patient based on age is unethical, arrogant and self-serving. It's unscientific and bad medicine. I had a top, highly respected cardiologist in 2010 suggest statins, a calcium channel blocker and imminent stent surgery. After categorically calling him out on personal bias vs science, 3 other cardiologists agreed with my scientific evaluation and 12 yrs later, no issues. All good here. I was an Olympic triathlete at the time. But his hubris and arrogance were astounding!

Doctors have told me that they would Rx doxycycline on a purely visual diagnosis of an STI... But a patient with a bullseye rash, a dead tick, after hiking on wooded trails would need two tier positive testing before the same doxycycline would be rx'd for Lyme disease. Why? They don't want their name on ICD dx codes for Lyme. Insurance red flag. FIND ETHICAL DOCS WHO WANT TO HELP YOU BASED ON SCIENCE more than guard their reputation with bureaucrats are all about the $.

Re: Rcma (# 1073) Expand Referenced Message

Thank you. Neither I nor any female family member have CAD. My grandmother, mother, and aunts lived into their late 80s to early 90s. My father had CAD but still lived to 85 and he worked in his own business until 80. It's a shame that liability is more important than a patient's quality of life. The government ought to mind it"s own business and allow doctors and patients to mind theirs. Thank you Rcma for speaking up.

What do taxes have to do with medication?

YES, here in Round Rock North of Austin everyone local is out to Teva and my boutique pharmacies are not able to order it due to a heavy backorder, as well. Very stressful when you are out and need it to go about your busy days.

20 mg is also out in at least three pharmacies here in Dallas.

Re: Cyr (# 1075) Expand Referenced Message

I was talking about working people contributing more in taxes therefore being viewed as more valuable. It seems for the most part those working are viewed as needing their ADHD medication more than those that are not. I am hearing more and more about doctors telling seniors they will no longer prescribe their Adderall or other stimulants if they are 65 and no longer working.

Re: SavvyRobin (# 1076) Expand Referenced Message

Same situation in the Delaware area @ my local Walgreens. Have had a script of 60 - 30mg Teva’s filled @ this same location for the past 3 years with hardly any trouble at all. Then for this months refill (June 2022), which my Dr called in on Friday 6/10/22. They told my doc they were experiencing on-going shortages & would likely be on back order for atleast the next few weeks. I made some calls to other Walgreens in my area & got the same thing. Then was told by a friend that a location approx 30 miles away was able to fill his same exact script that I have. So I called my Dr’s office back on Friday afternoon & relayed the message to his nurse that I’d like them to move my script over to that location. She said she’d have the Dr do that right away. Well, nothing gets called in & Im waiting in limbo over the weekend. Call my Dr back on Monday 6/13 and the nurse said she told the Dr, so she wasnt sure why that wasnt done yet. She said he wasnt in the office that day, but would text him to get that called in. Well then Tuesday rolls around & I ended up getting one of those Walgreens notifications that my script was filled & ready for pickup. I thought great, the Dr handled that for me. Wrong, actually looks like the location I always use - my local pharmacy was able to fill my script. I go to pickup as normal & nothings said, same process as always, BAU. Until I get home & see some new weird brand I’ve never gotten before & havent even heard of up to this point. They filled my script with the T376’s. I wasnt happy, but I guess according to Walgreens policy - I’m beat. I signed for & accepted the script, then left the pharmacy - so they wont let me return the meds & cant cancel my script that was filled for June. I’m fairly pissed because I only want my script filled with Teva brand Ads. Are they allowed to simply fill my script with a totally different brand & not even provide any notification or ask whether I’d be alright with that? Not sure what to do at this point, guess Im stuck with these T376’s now - atleast for this month. Then I suppose I’ll change my pharmacy or go in to talk to the pharmacist & have them notate my account not to refill with anything other then Teva moving forward.

Same here. I take Adderall XR 15 mg. Walgreen's is out, apparently with no generic alternatives available. I figured it'd just be a day or two wait, but now that I see your comment I'm getting worried.

How does a pharmacy just RUN OUT of prescription medications? That's kinda their only area of expertise. Good thing it's not blood pressure meds, chemotherapy meds or something like that. Jesus. Although I don't envy you needing it for narcolepsy and running out.
