Muscle/nerve Ache With Eliquis And Niacin Or Statin (Page 9) (Top voted first)

Updated

Since starting Eliquis, I have felt much stiffer and sore in the mornings and during the day with muscle tightness in my neck and back affecting my upper arms. A general sense of early aging that is unpleasant. Anyone else with these symptoms?

Yes....horribly so, I feel like I have aged half a life time in the 3 months since starting Eliquis. My legs always hurt. They are very weak, almost atrophied. Headaches, dry mouth. I Have been active my entire life but now can barely go a quarter mile on the "Y" exercise machines as I have always done or walk my couple of miles each day. I too, want off this med. Can't even take my Advil for antiinflammatory action against arthritis. This is a miserable place to be. Working hard to maintain health and physical fitness, yet can't get close to this due to this drug.

Just saw your article and must say this is exactly how I feel. I have a condition called spinal stenosis and since starting this terrible drug Eliquis I have severe numbness in feet one could say this is part of the spinal condition but I also have nerve pain in my feet, hands, chest and face which I NEVER had before - almost a toothache like pain. I pass loads of urine every 3 hours and remain thirsty. My diagnostics were negative for being diabetic. Like you and everyone else you cant take anti inflammatory drugs [N.S.A.I.D] not even Aspirin so you are very limited as to what pain relievers you can actually use. My doctor allows me to use Voltarol Gel even though some of this can be absorbed in the blood stream without this being rubbed into various parts of my body I don't know what I would do. Sleeping well I manage to get 2-3 hours if I am lucky. This drug has even done something to that. Would I ever tell someone to consider using it----ANSWER NO.

I'm a 68 yr. male. At about 7:00 a.m., June 15, 2017, I became extremely short of breath after walking up a set of stairs at home. Immediately, I went to the local ER and after a CT scan, was diagnosed with a blood clot in each lung. Later this day at about 9:00 p.m., I was started on Eliquis 10mg. I woke up the next morning at the hospital with a very very sore back. A few hours later the nurse came in with a follow up 10mg dosage. I've been prescribed 10mg, twice per day. Ever since beginning this medication, I've experienced pretty severe pain in my lower back, bi-laterally but mainly on the left. Now, my normal activity level has decreased to the point where I can't do much of anything that demands a certain level of physical exertion. I did not have this problem prior to beginning Eliquis. While at the hospital, I asked a couple physicians about side effects of Eliquis and the only thing mentioned was potential for bleeding. I'll be seeing my doctor in a couple of days to explore this further.

I guess I must be one of the lucky ones taking Eliquis. I have been on it since January 2015 for Atrial Fibilation, I also have two stents as well. I do get low back ache for which I regularly see an Osteopath, but he does not attribute it to my medication. I make regular blood test appointments at my surgery, even though I have not been told to do so, just so I can keep a check with what is going on. At the end of the day we must look after our bodies and be responsible rather than waiting for the odd random blood test. I think the fact that this drug helps to reduce blood clots and a stroke outweighs me ever thinking of coming off it.

Just read your article about Eliquis and actually someone must be stringing you along or you have not heard your doctor correctly. If you are in the U.K there are evaluations for older anticoagulants (i.e. Warfarin) where there was weekly diagnostics, then this new Eliquis wonder drug came out and presto they don't need to do blood work every week BUT just once a year and it's only for Kidney Function taking away the need to do blood work on a regular basis.

I have been having extreme stiffness, muscle aches, and swelling of joints while on Eliquis. The odd thing is that I have been on it for nearly a year with no side effects. At the last refill of my prescription, these side effects started. The interesting thing is that shortly after I refilled this prescription, I received a call from the pharmacist asking me to check the color of the pills. Their explanation was that the manufacturer had mislabeled some of the Eliquis pills....put smaller mg's in larger mg packaging. do you believe that???

I switched to Coumadin one month ago. Noticed some nice changes. Almost all the muscle weakness and tightness and aches in my shoulders have disappeared. I worked for several hours yesterday doing lots of yard work, and felt better at the end than the beginning. Brisk walking (4 MPH) on the treadmill is now back in my routine. So I strongly suspect it was the Eliquis. I have a suspicion that this problem may be more prevalent because of my age (76), and a rather high activity level. This issue of muscle problems seems to affect us older folks in a more pronounced manner, especially if we are ACTIVE. Just my opinion here, so take it for what this may be worth. No issues with Coumadin, but the INR testing is a little inconvenient. A small price to pay. My bruising is also less with Coumadin than with Eliquis. So I will continue with the OLD STANDBY...COUMADIN.

That sure sounds encouraging! I'm so happy for you. I sure hope I have results like that. I'd love to get out there and pull some weeds, lol.

I am having a lot of pins and needles in my feet legs and fingers recently and am wondering whether it could be the Apixaban. Does anyone else have this. I'm a bit paranoid that I may have MS.

Have terrible pain. Muscle soreness, nerve pain, weakness. Had back surgery yr. ago and fibro for years. Had irregular heart beat put on Metoprolol. Had blood clot after surgery. Put on Eliquis. Have been worse since put on these two medications. Are they the culprit? I don't know and wonder if anybody does. The doctor gives us meds to make us better but do they really?

I was taking Eliquis for six months and had no problem until about three weeks before I went off it experiencing terrible joint pain. I went off the Eliquis as scheduled on August 1st. It took an additional three weeks to get it out of my system. I drink water and more water and more water and I'm finally back to normal. No joint pain. I can jump out of bed in the morning. I can walk. I can do all my things, so I know for a fact it was the Eliquis in my system.

I just wanted to let you know that not everyone does well on condominium either. The nurses were never able to get my blood regulated over a 9 month period. My hair fell out horribly so much so that one could see my scalp in many places, and the bottom half of my fingernails fell off. How does a woman live with that? But Eliquis is killing me, too. I aches so bad sometimes I cry. Any answers?

I switched to Coumadin from Eliquis in August of 2017. All I can say is that all the previous symptoms I experienced with Eliquis are GONE. Coumadin is not perfect, but for me, Eliquis was a DISASTER. No more neck and shoulder tightness and pain, no balance problems, I can once again run on my treadmill like the old days for one hour, and the leg weakness is gone. When on Eliquis, I could barely get on the treadmill. And also the brain fog I was experiencing is gone. Coumadin may make a little tired at times, but not serious.

My brother is taking eliquis. His feet are freezing, all the time. One docyor told him it was bad arteries and to do nothing about them. He has aged so much. His neck, shoulders and arms hurt really bad. He is very weak. At one point this summer, his arms felt numb below the elbows. He has a body wide burning under his skin that is debilitating. Does anyone else have that burning feeling?

Re: Janice (# 10) Expand Referenced Message

Since being on Eliquis I have had immediate memory loss. I gained weight and am very tired which isn’t me. Worst of all, when I walk my legs get very weak. I feel like a person with MS. This is the worst for me. I sell real estate and must sit down instead of going throughout a house. That’s the one symptom I want to know if others have had. I take flecanide and dilthiazem but I think this is the culprit.

Re: Jeanne (# 169) Expand Referenced Message

I haven’t had the memory loss and the weight gain I attributed to Metoprolol but I guess it could be the eliquis. But the lead legs I definitely think is the eliquis and I agree it seems like MS. Poor balance and legs just don’t want to work lol. Good luck to you

Re: M (# 171) Expand Referenced Message

Yes, M, I also was on Xerelto for 6 months prior to switching to Eliquis. I switched to Eliquis because of excessive bruising. I am quite active. The bruising was much better with Eliquis, but then the muscle tightness and pain kicked in, along with me feeling like I aged 20 years in two months. So I tend to agree with you that Xerelto may be better here. But I have now been on Coumadin for 4 months, and I have virtually no side effects. Back to "normal", and I run about 12 miles a week on treadmill with full energy. With Eliquis, I could barely get on the treadmill. So I have been on all three, and I have to say Coumadin is best for ME. But everyone is different here. GOOD LUCK.
