Legal Or Illegal (Page 4) (Top voted first)
UpdatedMy doctor has had me on 1 mg xanax 4 times per day for 15 yrs now and oxycodone 30 mg 4 times a day. I was supposed to see him last Thursday to get my refills but when I called to make the appointment I was told that he quit indefinitely so now I'm going cold turkey without anything...my pharmacist faxed my refill orders several times last week & they told me they couldn't find my medical chart....1st time in 15 yrs my chart got lost & my refills for xanax were never called in to my pharmacy... Can he legally quit on me without informing me here in Arkansas?
I did some research that I learned as an investigative reporter. There was more than met the eye. The hospital filed a complaint with the Office of Professional Conduct and I interviewed friends of my patient who were subjected to the same treatment. More than once I had to remind her that "you are NOT a licensed physician; so keep your moth shut when you don't now anything more than the rest of us do." Lots of stories and my sister got the kids Transactional Immunity for testifying —whatever they disclosed, they couldn't be prosecuted for — but that's what former Bureau Chiefs in the Manhattan DA's Office do. I do Forensics and I made an excellent witness. Don't forget that I'm not the only doctor in my family and I have a lot of friends. The Board voted to REVOKE. All it took was a little research...the PhD is a research degree and journalism experience can be invaluable. She narrowly avoided an indictment for Federal Civil Rights violations — seems "worthless junkie" equals the "n-word" in at least one Fed Appellate Court judge's eyes. One of the first rules of psychiatry (and of news reporting for that matter) is that people repeat patterns. Nothing comes de novo.
Every experienced shrink has talked or "conferenced" a suicidal patient "off the ledge". I'm proud that my skills have been equal to the task, because that isn't easy, even face-to-face.
Thanks for the scholarly medico-legal backup, Ms. P450!
When a physician fires a nurse generally he or she is reported immediately to the nursing board and can immediately lose their license.
Kipper,
I repeat "addicting" is a term that refers to "addict", no legitimate pain specialist writes opioids for addicts.
BL,
Addiction is a 2% possibility (I learned this in nursing school 1,000 years ago burp) ONLY in someone who is an addict and hence not diagnosed.
Physicians like professional nurses (see my post describing the different levels of nursing so you know the educational requirements and hence critical thinking levels) are highly trained to note the difference.
Our ability means after years of training we utilize all of our scientific background in critical thinking along with the other very difficult
material we utilize.
Hi, about four years ago as I was working I started feeling dizzy and my heart felt like it was going to burst out of my chest and I was sweating alot. Never in my life I felt that way before. So called the nurse hotline told her my conditions and said that I was having a panic attack, she told me to find a pycrathist and I did they said the same thing but they did not give out the medicine so I had to find a PCP who did. He suggested Xanax and I refused , I told him didn't want to be something that going to make me sleepy all the time and God knows what else. I have a set of twins with autism and very stressful as time pass the attacks was getting stronger and I could barely breathe and my blood pressure went sky high and I passed out. So I agreed to take it until I got better cause I was having chest pains also. Last year I had major surgery were I almost died from from lack of blood and the blood transfusions I always get was not working anymore, so my doctor referred me to someone and said she was good he knows her, she said this my best option and afterwards I will feel like a whole new person, I will have my energy back and not feel tired constantly and rgain my strengths. After the surgery I went to Fort Walton Beach airforce base so my brother and wife can help recover. This is where it get like crazy ,my doctor would send in my prescription and I would pick them up at CVS there been going to same place for 14years, but one his nurses sent it in at Walgreen's instead of CVS so I called CVS pharmacy and asked was my prescription ready but they never got it, so they emailed them and they sent it. What the nurse failed to do was cancel the one she sent to Walgreen's so after four months went by I recovered and went home. Went to see my doctor as as I always do every two months but instead sending in prescription they started giving it to me . AT my visit I had my son with me cause our visit at the same time, so as I waiting on him , he finished and they scheduled us to come back in two months and we left and went straight home and then I didn't think nothing of it until a couple hours later that they forgot give me my prescription, so I called and told them. This is the worst part this sweet nurse that have been seeing for three year's told me hold on to check to she printed it out she took thirty minutes and got back on the phone and yelled saying ,we are closing and they do not pay us overtime. I called them for two weeks with no return call , I had my insurance company call to see what the problem was and he finally called back, I was over my sister house at the time and I was helping plan a party ,so he called and put my phone on speaker phone cause I was blowing up balloons . he asked what the problem was and told him and he said by his records I have been getting my prescriptions at two different pharmacy's ,I said what no I haven't so he said your have enough and I will see you next month. I couldn't sleep for days, having server headaches and so much more . when my appt came he was very cold toward me ,didn't even take my blood pressure or do what he usually does when I visited. He stated that I was getting prescriptions from two different pharmacy's and his name on line and they were in my name and he wanted me got to pharmacy and ask to look at the security cameras cause his name was on the line. I told him why can't you do it since its your name on the line. I asked him which pharmacy's is this happening at he said Walgreen's and CVS I said don't even go to Walgreen's ,he had a sheet paper showing the times I was turning in my prescriptions and my name on it. I told him I dont what's going on and what was I supposed to do it wasn't me . So he called Walgreen's and they told him it was a guy and they paid with cash and that was all they could tell him and then started getting upset repeating his name being used and said it was one of my family members making copies of it, I said what the only family I got here is my sister and I referred her to you remember. So he said go to the police station and report this,so was upset and why can't you since its your good name they using ,what about mine what it don't mean anything. So I asked him for copy of the slip he had of the days this was happening and he said OK and walked out. So I'm thinking he going to get me a copy the nurse tells me we are not authorized to give you that information with attitude so I left and went to the someone I know very well to look in it for me, the person of the task force security system on there computers.I told him situation and he said he will look into it. So when I went to my appt cause he started making me come once a month now he walked and said it happened again ,my name is on the line, said I got someone looking into it since you saying its one my family members that's doing it and I didn't say I said yes you did my sister here you when you are on the phone I had it on speaker and he said you had other people listening to our conversation I said no I just happen to put it on speaker cause I was busy how was I suppose to know that you were going to so the things you said, he said I'm dropping you as a patient and I will give thirty days to find a new one, I said why I did nothing wrong I don't know who doing this and you want me to investigate this like I'm the CIA .So I said fine whatever, five days later task force calls me and told me that they saw the security tapes with me going in CVS handing my prescriptions, what had happened was the prescriptions that his nurse sent Walgreen's at the the time of my recovery was still in there system and it sits in there for 8months, one of the females that worked there noticed it been sitting in there for a long time and never came and got them, she sent her boyfriend up there when she worked to get them. I told them it to late have dropped me as his patient thinking it was me or a family member, so they said if he was smart he shouldn't have did that now we got investigate him now, two weeks later my son had a appt with him as they called us back I saw two new people working there and asked where is his one and only head nurse that I been seeing for three years ,they looked down and said she doesn't work hear anymore and I he walked in the room he was speaking to me so sweet and kind like best friends. But every since then I have been able find a PCP that will prescribe my Xanax here in Tennessee and its been three months now ,the emotional pain, lack of sleep, severe headaches, don't even want get out bed, chest pain's, the simplest thing sets me off, can't eat ,and my heart races and the sweating .I can't stand to long without feeling dizzy and now I can't even drive my on car to the places I need to go scared I will crash I almost did four times if I new this was going to put me in this state I would never have taking it, I feel like I need it ,when I wake up from a nightmare it feel like I'm having a heart attack.
Powerful sedative-hypntics prescribed in addition to opiates/opiids that can't "cover' the pain can lead to Mania. Hysteria, et. I'm not being mean to you; advising you of what it took a lot of PTS and DOCS to learn over the years, what it took generations for these docs and its to learn.I'm not sure if neuroleptics also compromised the analgesia of morphine or Dilaudid-type opiates/opioids. For a long time, my PM buds could send their pots and send them me for the tx of intractable insomnia, the pool of available hypnotics and docs wit the balls to do what ALL of us did back in the day has greatly decreased!
Untreated pain leads to panic attacks that is why the best in the U.S. and my deceased prescribed Xanax or Ativan in addition to your pain medications.
RSD destroys REMS for life. I have not had REMS in over 20 years people.
One more is that untreated pain (not enough opioids) will give you panic and no sleep.
Get your PM to prescribe what is needed if they can.
I may not be around if I do not get a replacement physician soon; I have told those close to me this is it for me. Peace people.
Kipp,
They don't do Seconal anymore babe, long off the market.
It does knock you out. A sad loss of a good damn occasional sleeper.
I've had Seconal and Nembutal pre-op. Seconal was IM and Nembutal p.o. I was hospitalized and my mentor stopped by and rained Hell on the nursing staff if they didn't "get off their asses and fill my medication order —NOW." AS with all god administrators, they were twosomes to Charlie, and these folks left me uncomfortable on 2 x .25mg of Halcyon (brand). I'm a CNS Reducer and these just don't work on me. I was mesmerized; I never saw this side of Charlie (or Chuck) but it seemed most staff knew not to release the "the 'bad' Dr. S.". Seco- and pentotbarbital are still around. I guess you have to know where to lok. And yes, I needed 200mg po of Nembutal and 200g IM for the Seconal. I did sleep, however, I called a snatch of conversation and Dr Charlie's saying, "He has his own MD. state license and DEA Registration — he could order 1,000 of those pills if he chose to, so obviously he's not a addictive risk. No, do what you're told or do I have to get the Chief of Medicine down here?
I pray every day for this not to occur.
I fully agree. Nurse like P450 are as rare as diamonds but one who started with main now psychiatric a Psych NP (with an MSN) and with the prescriptive privilege as well. I alas treated nurses as equal partners in health care. What I don't like are those "streamlined" programs where the NP decides SHE/HE is the doc. I"m always open to collaboration, but that implies a discussion among equals.
Kipp, my friend you know with AS you cannot be off opioids anymore than I can. The pain will kill you.
I think BL is correct. You were an adult and assumed the risk of addiction when you "signed on for this trip." Your bottles had Controlled Substances labels, etc. Don't freak — I'm on your side and I've made out clear that part of our job is monitoring scripts, quantities, etc., not just clinical signs and symptoms.
Also, you or your attorney can check on the status if your former doc's license online or, in the attorney;s case, with a telephone call. Sometimes a agreement to retire and surrender ones license covers the multitude if sins; if that;s what happened, he;d only show a "Retired - License Surrendered for Purpose of Retirement" and no details. Disciplinary action is public information, but you have to know where to look.
There are the rules and then there's god medicine. Calling the AMA is like asking Nixon if it's cool to break into a office to steal the secrets you need! You should have checked with the Idaho Medical Association and found out what their "Enforcement Arm" is. The NY, it's the Office of Professional Conduct of The State Board of Medicine. That means they can suspend or revoke licenses, etc. My knowledge of orthopedics and rheumatology are a bit limited, but I read enough to know that you need for opiates in legit, bro. I have a colleague on Remicaid and I called to wish her Happy Holidays (Roni's Jewish and a teacher; her husband's a shrink at Bellevue. We both love to read; I have an BA/MA in English and we asked him to het us adjoining rooms when we finally go nuts from our jobs. She takes Remiacid and I said that dose sounded pretty lotto me. She's a smart girl, a doctor's wife, a REAL MA holder (no master's in English Ed ir other b.s.) and knows what she's taking) Some of us, I truly believe, are put this Earth with special talents or greater intelligence, but "to whom much much is given, much is expected. I lucked out. Mom had a PhD with High Honors and more awards than we ever could find places for — thank God she had a big office as Supt of Schools. My Dad was a successful businessman. There's money in the family. I was smart enough to fly through school and get accepted to my only three choice of med school. (Most kids applied to 20). I found I had a talent for listening, a crack memory and was able to put all the pieces together and come up with a plan that works" — thats called synthesis. I learned that when I got my PhD in pharmacology.
Now, your meds schedule was a little peculiar, but no beyond what I'd consider the normal limit of opiate therapy for your condition. I had SEVERE migraine-type headaches for seven years. My mentor, my best professional bud (and my shrink) and I all with advanced training is psychopharmacology, tried to figure out what to do that would work. We did and redid every neural scan available. I had blood diagnostics I can't even pronounce. Nothing worked by Percocet 10/325 - 2 or 3 q4-6h prn pain and brand name Valium; sometimes Thorazine 25mg for nausea. (Decxtrostat - dextraoamphetmine) 10mg PRN kept me on my feel to do my work). I know what it's like to wake up with pain and go to sleep with it. I used Dilaudid 2-4mg fro breakthrough and usually generic Seconal (gr iii) for sleep. Definitely file a complaint. Your doc ANNOT drop you without providing enough medication for one month and providing you with referrals. I don't care what pseudo-health professional tells you what, bro; I'd bet the rent money that this is written into Admin Law or the laws of your state. This really sucks. I'd NEVER know anyone, even "shady" docs do this, but I don't know any REALLY shady (make up histories, sell scripts, etc.) docs. I wouldn't want to; they tar our whole professional with the same brush. FIRST STOP: Law Clinic, probably at a major university with a law school, to get your options. (I mean no disrespect), but I've treated guys like you — usually at no charge — because the consequences of being out of work don't lend themselves to paying my $385/session fees (that figure is for my affluent patients actually, and I was left a bunch of them by my mentor, who finally retired about 52 years of practice). See what they have to say. I"m SURE there are violations here and that;s everagem my friend My baby sister represented a patient if mine against another doc and, bearing in mind that she's a former Chief Sex Crimes Prosecutor and is young, pretty and harmless-looking, ripped this drug-pushing a---e to shred and his licensed was revoked, he was fined $10K and he was locked up by the Fibbies on the way out the door. She didn't charge this girl either Same sit, basically as yours. Good luck and good speed!
I was in a bizarre accident in September, broke every bones in my cheeks, dislocated my hip and deliberately forgot the rest. I was at a hospital NOT my own and their shrink tried to play "Can you top this" I had OUR Chiefo f Staff call their Chief of Staff they went med school together — and he said he was sending over a lock of doctor and he waste give them and me full privileges. My sister, a great attorney, used her kid DA;s budget get to the old bastard in charge directly and said she would be back in two hours with a Court order signed by a US Appellate Court Judge who also is a Federal Court 'judge fir the Third District ORDERING HIM TO COMPEL WITH THE REQUEST IN MY SISTER'S MOTION IMMEDIATELY, SINCE ALL ARE ULLY-LICENSED SPECIALTY TRAINED AND WELL REGARDED PHYSICIANS. As for the shrink, I told him not to try to show me he;s smarter than I am. He;s not. I went to better schools and got better grades (Ethel's being a nice guy. A few calls to MY primary hospital we have two huge hospitals, but call the one I have my official office "primary" and gave my other big officiate my Assistant On Site. Without my permission, they added Ketalar to my anesthetic cocktail and I woke up screaming. The "recovery room" looked like a Sheltered Workshop for the Developmentally Disabled and people were engaged in activities and things appropriate to that. The "nurse" in charge wore a cardboard sign around her neck and didn't believe I was an MD., When I asked her three simple questions every RN should know and she could;t answer them, I did. I told her my license # and my NPI #. No dice. I was placed in restraints and, my mind intact, I realized this COULD NOT BE A RECOVERY ROOM. I've been in too many as a pt and a doc. I also know puts died from anesthesia shock and other complications and thought I might have passed...but if so, this was NOT anything near Heaven. Figuring the most potent powerful for for good — that of Our Lord — is the most potent weapon against against Absolute Evil (and this had to be the work of Satan, I reasoned), I started praying, aloud in perfect Latin. (Good memory.) Meanwhile, my sister was calling her friends at th DA;s office and the local precinct to prepare warrants alleging unlawful imprisonment. This NURSE (whom the hospital never seemed to be able to find — I found her — believe it or not the firm rec'd to me was run by former Fibbie who also was a former patient; "For you doc, on the house, You gave me my life back. He wasn't a scheduled patient but had OD'd on gluthetemide — DORIDEN — and my mentor taught me to treat this nasty OD.) The nurse in charge kept telling my sister "I wasn't ready. I was still hallucinating; I was confused." Naturally, I was confused. It's like gin to the Apple Store and finding yourself surrounded my Harry Winston diamonds! I'm not a crazy fundi Christian or crazy fundie Catholic. I don't think every this patient is possessed by a demon. I believe that, on this Earth, God's work should surely be our own and THIS was not Gods work by a longshot! They didn't release my. There were two Fibbies serving the Search Warrant, two NYPS detectives and two DAs investigators, along with a DA Bureau Chief who dated my sister. My own shrink and another did;t know signed off that under the circumstances, my background, training and religious background made my thinking I was in a Satandesigned Hell was quite logical. My shrink was vehement about MY NOT being DELUSIONAL or otherwise nuts. The copes had a huddle. MY sis emerged, nodded to the DA Bureau Chief who was thereto authorize anapest and she said, "Llock her u Kidnapping; Unlawful Imprisonment, Gross Negligence in the Practice of the Profession and anything else we can think up while processing her. This is the big time, sweetie. NO WARNINGS FOR YOU. YOU DOING TIME. Hospital Security physically tried to stop the LEOs from doing their jobs, the FBIM Sspecial Agent in Charge said, "Cuff 'em. You're under arrest for obstructing a federal investigation" I pointed o the two attendants who grabbed my teeshirt and played "keep away" — and these two for carrying out illegal directives (the DA Bureau Chief added another charge or two). And off to the Federal Building, the local precinct, etc. A doctor tried to intervene. The FBI SAC had enough. "You're under arrest for obstruction of the administration of a federal investigation. Hands beinhd your back and we;ll look special for a FELONY so you won't be burdened with this job any longer." I told the group he was an a**hole who added Ketalar (beta, one; Special K) to my anesthesia; The DA Bureau Chief said, "WE'll hold him pending verification of charges of Unlawful Introduction of a Controlled Substance Without the Patient's Consent; Poisoning and whatever else our Doc can come with. Meanwhile, we proceed on Dr Joey's sworn statement to be given.) Sometimes, God really is on our side.
Hi, P450 — Had a terrible day today. Still working PRN because of the sequel to that accident, Don't need much oxycodone, though. That's a help. I just found out my Disability Checks had been hijacked on a technicality. Because I shrink submitted and update they consider CHF and Severe Head and Face Trauma, Deg Disc (C7, I think) are part of the same illness. I simply can have my shrink officially withdrawn his letter and state unequivocally that my psychological condition has notinh to do with two very separate accident. I was big good, having him explain how this exacerbated by PTST Panic Attack Disorder w/o Agoraphobia etc. I'm not taking a lot of meds, so I am NOT angry that I'm glad I got those English and Journalism degrees (BA/MA in both areas - Brown 1976). Too f-ing pissed off for words. My back was nice because I've been with them since my first day of college. my sister already called the Fibbies and she's SO pretty and harmless looking hate to use this analogy, but she's like a millennium old vampire who maintained her 30-y/o appearance. (She's 40.) It's all good until she unleashes her incredible vampiric powers. She had a 8=94% conviction rate in Sex Crimes and, as Chief, she took the hardest cases and every team assigned to a tough case included her, even if only as a member, not as "The Boss". (I do the same.) You would have LOVED my Mom and she would have loved you, too. I'm totally sure of that! She, my sister and I fought like ninjas to ensure her cousin, with early onset Alzheimer's to get proper and dignified care. There's a time to flaunt your credentials and this was one of them. "And what are YOU Board-certified in?" How old are you — 12?" It's all theater but a little intimidation and Ivy credentials can do more than rational argumentation sometimes...and that's said. My Cousin Laura write my Mom that Lynda Carter may always be the image of Wonder Woman, but Cousin J IS Wonder Woman. She wrote me a beautiful note and said she knew I put my rep and license on the line a few and she believed me when I said I'd do it again. My sister had a fistful of Federal Appellate Court Orders to keep those bozos in line. I've seen her in action in Court, but fighting for a loved one — I don't think Clarence Darrw could have out argued her (although I am a big biased; that's my kid sister!)

Stace, I was confused about the dating, too but P450 has things under control — or so I thought. My professional assessment hasn't changed, but I do apologize for assuming your post was so damned old! Even or especially doctors make mistakes, too. But since I "slapped your wrist," please get yourself some help regarding the Xanax. There are alternate drugs, you need antianxiety meds and I'm NOT going to suggest Apical Antipsycholotics or old-line antipsychotics because long-term use is like making a deal with the devil — and if you've read "The Devil and Daniel Webster," Ol'Scratch always collects WITH INTEREST. (Webster outlawyered him in his instance, though.) Some antidepressants have marked anxiolytic properties and are a lot safer. I can't Ddx or Rx long-distance (it's not only unethical; it's stupid!), but I hope you find a reasonable" psychiatrist who's not afraid to think outside the box. I have a patient who abused Valium for years and got help. I started him on Xanax, but he had a problem with it's being so short acting. He's forget his pills and start having withdrawal symptoms! Since Klonopin also is effective for Panic Disorder w/o Agoraphobia and ha a far longer duration of effect, I changed the med one dose in the morning and one around 10 p.m. No problems and NO hint of abuse or addiction. I don't believe you've forfeited your rights to use this class of drugs for life, but, speaking hypothetically, I'd start with a good, safe antidepressant with antianxiety properties. I've had success prescribing Lexapro, Zoloft, and Paxil as well as the older drug, Elavil. Sorry I was harsh before, but sometimes, hon, we GOTTA be!

Give me a CITE or THREE that states the patient issues the risk of adverse reactions to addicting drugs. We don't know if she took the meds as ordered or abused them. I have attorney friends who don't read the law that way and they've won cases. It is OUR responsibilty to take additional time to explain the risks of addicting meds and if the doc prescribed to a pt with a hx of abuse — that changes everything. We have the keys to the Narcotic Cabinet as a Charge Nurse once told me, and THAT means we're responsible for what we prescribed and to whom.
