Ketoanalogues Ketosteril

ketosteril was prescribed by my doctor in treatment of suspected kidney failure. The drug is very expensive here in the philippines, is there any substitute for Ketosteril 600 which is much cheaper?

What is ketosteril capsule? Is this really effective to avert renal failure. My mom's creatinine is 2.1 living on one kidney. She is hypertensive and with controlled diabeties.

As to what other medication options may be available in the Philippines, I am sorry, I can't help you. Have you tried asking the doctor or pharmacist?

That said, I am also having a difficult time discovering information regarding its use and efficacy. I am very sorry.

KETOSTERIL? appears to be manufactured by Fresenius Kabi and contain:

" - Calcium 3-methyl-2-oxovaleric acid (a-ketoanalogue of isoleucine, Ca-salt) 67 mg
- Calcium-methyl-2-oxovaleric acid (a-ketoanalogue of leucine, Ca-salt) 101 mg
- Calcium-2-oxo-3-phenylpropionic acid (a-ketoanalogue of phenylalanine, Ca-salt) 86 mg
- Calcium-3-methyl-2-oxobutyric acid (a-ketoanalogue of valine, Ca-salt) 68 mg
- Calcium-DL-2-hydroxy-4-(methylthio)-butyric acid (a-hydroxyanalogue ofmethionine) 59mg
- Ca-salt 105 mg
- L-lysine acetate (= L-lysine 75 mg) 53 mg
- L-threonine 23 mg
- L-tryptophan 38 mg
- L-histidine 30 mg
- L-tyrosine "

It is indicated for prevention and therapy of damages due to faulty or deficient protein metabolism in chronic renal insufficiency in connection with limited protein in food of 40 g per day (for adults) and less.

Doctors in the Philippines prescribed meds even w/o scientific
value's. If this meds is as good as advertized it should have been studied in US and applied for approval from FDA. I will be cautious taking this meds.

its very essential because ketosteril is the one replacing lost protein content in your kidney. thus, preventing the shrinking or renal hypertrophy.

My husband takes 2 tablets of Ketosteril 3 times a day and he suffered back pain in the left side of the pelvic region and numbness in legs and feet. What is this all about? Do we need to stop taking this?

Drinking 3 liters of water a day plus dietary regimen may be trully helpful. My mother's creatinine was 1.2 and I advised her to drink banana water ( boiled banaba leaves) and the creatinine went down to 1.1. But after 3 months became 1.3 despite drinking banaba water (it is considered diuretic), another 3 months became 1.5, and after 3 months again 1.9. Non-hypertensive and non-diabetic but 80 years old and taking several medicines for the heart to prevent blood clotting, anti-angina, multivitamins, blood pressure maintenance ( despite BP maintained normal). I strictly advised her to drink water at least 2 liters a day. I gave her a container so that she can follow my instruction well. Plus limiting sodium and potassium into normal. After 3 months her creatinine level was 1.6. Her doctor advised her ketosteril/ renalog 600mg 3x a day. I prepared ketosteril and we are on the 2nd month plus following instruction on the leaflet of ketosteril to limit protein to 50 gms a day. Sadfully my mother eats protein 50 to 100 gms a day. My point is drinking a lot of water at the very early stage of kidney problem is might be trully helpful.

Ask your pharmacy about a leaflet of your drug. It is a complete information about the drug that may clear up your doubtfulness. If still doubtful, you may ask for the explanation of your doctor with regards to the said leaflet. Ketosteril is most wildly used in the hospital given by well-known doctors.

Kaya bang pababain ng ketestoril ang creatinine level na 1.34 nag medical ako kase yan sabit ko inom lang ako ng tubig at monday kuhanan ako ng dugo. Pero kung kayang pababain ng ketestoril hangang sabado ay bibili ako. Ilang tablet ba dapat inumin limit kase namin 1.2 o kayanin yan ng tubig lang. Thanks.
