Yutopar Aka Ritodrine Experiences (Page 6) (Top voted first)

Updated

My husband and I have had our daughter, which is now 30, tested for everything and the doctors can't seem to be able to give us a diagnosis, and things are not getting any better. My beautiful daughter has struggled and suffered so much and it breaks my heart to know that the Yutopar that was given to me, affected my baby. My daughter is the one who suffers from it on a daily basis. My second child is normal, and I did not take the drug while carrying him. I would really like to talk to all of you, something needs to be done to care for these kids that are now adults that can not cope. They sleep, eat, are extremely depressed, suicidal thoughts, learning problems, unable to conform to society, lies, bi-polar, anti-social, can't function in everyday life and with everyday problems. We need help. If anyone out there could possible contact me {edited for privacy}.

My daughter will be 31 in September. I was given Yutopar at 26 weeks in a 24 hour span by IV. I probably endured 3 or 4 of these treatments and took the pills when I was at home. My daughter and I would have rapid heart rates during the treatments and I could not keep anything down, but as most of you have said, I was faced with losing my baby or taking this medication and I chose her. She was born at 36 1/2 weeks and stayed in the hospital for a week with jaundice. She has a high IQ but it was difficult to keep her in school to get her high school degree. She has tried to get a college degree, but like most things in her life, she does well for about 6 weeks but can't complete the task. I noticed that she was hyper sensitive as a child- emotionally, physically and socially. She has been diagnosed with ADD, Depression, Fibromyalgia, and has seizure and arrhythmia difficulties. Suicide attempts have happened and she has been hospitalized for mental health issues a few times. It's difficult for her to put forth the effort to work so her job status has been on and off. So far she has difficulties having/maintaining relationships. My grandson is 9 1/2 and also struggles with ADHD, depression, and social issues, some of which are from the difficulties faced by being raised in an unstable environment. I have not had these issues with my youngest daughter. I have tried supporting them every way I can including financially and having them live with us. I can't do either anymore.

I've contacted several attorneys and I can find anyone to look into this. I contacted the FDA to no avail. Still working on it tho. Has to be some body that cares. It's an uphill battle to even get these lawyers to understand. If anyone else is getting anywhere with the legal aspect of this please post.

I took Yutopar for both of my preterm pregnancies. I took it with my 1987 pregnancy, of which I delivered a son 3 weeks early. He has kidney and liver problems. I took it again for my 1990 pregnancy and delivered a daughter 6 weeks early. She has kidney issues and a heart arrhythmia. I started with a neuro muscular disease a couple of years after my last pregnancy. I have often wondered if all this has anything to do with the Yutopar. While on the drug it made my heart race terribly, which it still does occasionally.

I sent an email about this drug to New York Times because they did a research article about the drug in 1987 I believe. Still no reply, contacted lawyers, no reply and what's even more frustrating is that this site will not let us exchange info to contact each other ! I tried but couldn't get the word out, they edited it out of my reply to someone else. Pat, I hope your well girl! I have your number! Lol

I wonder if it is too late and too complicated for a legal suit. One thing you can do for your son is get him some therapy with someone who specializes in mindfulness-based practices or to a mindfulness based stress reduction group. Very helpful for anxiety. Failing that, there is an excellent workbook called Mindfulness based Stress Reduction by Elisha Goldstein and a good book called Calming your Anxious Mind by Brantley. Good luck to you and your son. My son too has anxiety issues that may be related to taking ritodrine when pregnant with him in 85. All the best to you and yours.

This a link to the article that was in NYTimes in 1992 about the Canadian study of yutopar that showed the drug had no effect of keeping women from having a premature delivery. The results in fact showed that there was no difference in delivery dates of ones administered the actual drug versus a placebo. Except the fact that the ones who took the real drug had medical side effects. This was only a seven year study as well. Seven years seems a lil young to me to notice obvious mental or emotional side effects in children. As for all the posts of attorneys stating the the drug did as it said it would and the baby surviving. It seems according to the study it had nothing to with the drug as the other half that took placebos had the same effect, without the medical problems I might add.

What about suing the FDA?? Since all the Companies are no longer in business that manufacture Ritodrine??? There are to many bad outcomes with this drug. My Son died after being on this drug IV intravenously for 17 days.

Hi. Cherry

Nice you write here. You are the first for me to meet as a child born with this medicine. I wrote several letters here and i have been going deep in the healing opportunities to deal with this. I am going to take a homeopathic remedy made from this medicine. I Will leave a reply on how it has worked out. In the other mails i wrote before. I have noted some other natural medicines (adaptogenes) that are of great benefit in this disbalance. I hope it can help you as it has helped me to be more balanced. Bless you.

Re: Mdijon (# 132) Expand Referenced Message

This site does not allow for phone numbers or email addresses to be shared, so it is extremely difficult to ban together. I am sure we all want some type of restitution for our kids sake. If someone has an idea about how to get our united concerns out there then please step forward.

My son has attempted suicide twice since my last posting here. My youngest is now having symptoms of bipolar. I hate this drug, the makers of it and now the doctors that prescribed it. It has destroyed this family.
