Yutopar Aka Ritodrine Experiences
UpdatedMy husband and I have had our daughter, which is now 30, tested for everything and the doctors can't seem to be able to give us a diagnosis, and things are not getting any better. My beautiful daughter has struggled and suffered so much and it breaks my heart to know that the Yutopar that was given to me, affected my baby. My daughter is the one who suffers from it on a daily basis. My second child is normal, and I did not take the drug while carrying him. I would really like to talk to all of you, something needs to be done to care for these kids that are now adults that can not cope. They sleep, eat, are extremely depressed, suicidal thoughts, learning problems, unable to conform to society, lies, bi-polar, anti-social, can't function in everyday life and with everyday problems.We need help. If anyone out there could possible contact me {edited for privacy}.
I'm so sorry to hear about your daughter's negative experience with Yutopar. Other than taking action with lawsuits, the only other thing I would suggest is that you report this drug to the FDA via their medwatch program at:
fda.gov/Safety/MedWatch/default.htm
However I don't know how manufacturers might go about compensating you for what you and your daughters had to go through as a result of taking their product. But I'd imagine this is where you'd have to take legal action.
I hope this helps! Looking forward to hearing what others might have to say...
I am reading all this crying hysterically to my husband finally figuring out why my 30 year old son has struggled throughout his life with emotional issues. so many of what I am reading about all these children have gone through.I have no doubt in my mind being on ritodrine has destroyed my son. I remember having to go off it at 8 months of pregnancy because i would call them that the baby was going crazy in my stomach.. after years and years of pondering and searchimg for answers from god,knowing in my heart something went wrong somewhere because one child has these issues and 2 after him do not. I came to look up this drug just wondering. and here are my answers. so many of our children were damaged by this drug. and everyone walks away scot free because of disorders that cannot be seen most times physically. what a shame. us mothers need to get together and fight for this. someone should be held acccountable.
I have found so many families of grown children that were affected by this drug and their lives turned up side down, ours included. I was put on this drug in my 6 month and took the drug by pill and IV when the pill didn't work, unfortunately I had no idea that this was an experimental drug and what effect it would have on our lives, and my daughter stuggles with it on a daily basis. I agree they should not be able to get away with this.
I absolutely agree with you, yes there are many, and I do mean many families that are stuggling with mental and emotional disorders caused from this drug. I have 2 children (grown) my daughter is dysfunctional I took the drug carrying her, and my son who is normal and I didn't take the drug with him. So many families will tell you the same thing, this is insane for drug companies to have allowed this to happen then just walk away. Yes something needs to be done.
thank you for responses. plase lets find a way to get together and see what we can do. nothing will bring back the years of all the suffering but this has to get out there. I also did not know it was an experimental drug.but since my pregnancy 1 year prior ended with my fistborn comming at 26 weeks 1.8 pds and passing away 3 weeks later , i knew no better.3rd and 4th pregnany i had the cervics sewn instead of ritodrine and both children had no issues.just keep wanting to kick myself for not searching these answers sooner. calling a lawyer now. please parents if anyone wants to pursue this please contact my email or my number 267-{edited for privacy} I live in new jersey. my son was born in phila. good luck all dawn
thank you for response.contacting a lawyer. anyone interested please contact me 267-{edited for privacy} thanks dawn
OMG I was reading about your daughter. Im really sorry you have to go through all of that. I gave birth so a son 23yrs old. He is disabled and I've never been able to get a real reason as to why he is disabled. He is my middle son. My first born and last born are "normal". I never took that medicine with them either. My son takes medicine for bi-polar, schizophrenia and to sleep. In the last few months he is getting worse. He now spends most of the day pacing back and forth aimless. He looks lost in his own brain. Mental retardation, doesnt read or write...... so many other things. Please let me know if we can do something.
I have a son who is suffering also. I took Yutopar while caring him he is 23. He is suffering from Pervasive Developmental Disorder, and Bi-Polar Disorder.

Hi Glenda, I would love to talk to you, our children have suffered enough, lets see if we can find away to talk.
Hi, I also have a 21 year old daughter who suffers from depression, social disorder, etc. I would love to talk to someone about what we can do to help them and us. I was on ritodrine when I had preterm labor with her.
Hi Dawn,
How can i get in contact with you regarding a lawsuit. I have a 21 year old daughter who has mental/social disorders and I went into preterm labor with her and took this drug. {edited for privacy}
Hi My Name is Tracy and my 23 year old son was diagnosed with mixed Bipolar Disorder and severe Anxiety last year while he was serving our country in the Air Force. He was discharged without any assistance. He has attempted suicide several times and is currently undergoing shock treatments. I am a nurse and when I was 20 weeks pregnant I went into labor with him and they stopped my labor and then sent me home on oral yutopar until 26 weeks. When I heard that is was banned I knew something was not right and I also questioned why he had this horrible mental illness. I also believe the medication caused this since my oldest son is completely normal I did not use this drug with him. I would also be interested in a law suit.
I have not been able to find an attorney who wants to take on the challenge.
There has got to be someone who will look into all the horrible outcomes from the use of this drug. I used it from 20 weeks to 36 weeks
If you are in this forum by now you know as a parent we are all in the same situation with our kids by taking this drug. Please know we have to stand together and get the word our there and find more parents willing to come forward, there are power in numbers and this is coming from a doctor and lawyer who says they will take this case, the more parents that get on this forum, a lawyer will look into it, as it stands now there is not enough complaints about this drug and the effects it had on our kids, get people you know to go to this forum address, later we will figure out a way to contact each other. Lets fight this for our kids that suffer on a daily basis.

Re: Carla (# 181)
Hi again. I am very sorry to hear this. I don't think the spine issue is related to the drug, but maybe the prematurity or some other gene stuff...but 1 week on the lowest dosage is less than most people here took...and again it may have played a significant role to your son's health... I hope everything turns out well. Take care.
Re: Carla (# 179)
There's so many of us out here with no resolve and legal path on this drug maker. So sorry to hear your struggles. When I first read the comments here it was Aug of 2016. My daughter was born in '83, so I was like you and never correlated the 2, but I had a suspicion because her problems don't run in the family.
Re: JimPet (# 180)
Hello Jim,
I was put on oral Yutopar and sent home under nursing care for 1 week, I had to take it twice a day and I can’t remember the exact dosage but I do remember it was the smallest dosage the oral pill came in, I was 34 weeks pregnant and went into labour and had my son at 35 weeks. He was very healthy when he was born and didn’t show many signs at the time of any issues, by the age of 2 I noticed he was different than most children his age but I still didn’t corilate there was major issues going on. He is almost 18 yrs old now and has sever problems with mental health and he also has a deformed spine which is very painful for him, I am not sure if that is related to the drug or not but his spine and joints ache all the time, he also has a very prominent sleep disorder and will not sleep for 72 hours at a time.
Re: Carla (# 179)
Hi Carla, I am so sorry to hear your story... can you give some more detail about your yutopar usage? When in pregnancy, for how long, dosage etc?
I was given the drug in April 2000. I am in Canada the side effects at the time were awful for me, but they were nothing compared to what my son deals with daily now as well as everyone around him. My son is now 17 and he has all these issues mentioned above and some. He is also suicidal and spent last summer in the adolescent Psyc unit. There he was diagnosed with depression, conduct disorder, adhd, and anxiety. He also had several other issues the doctors never finished diagnosing as they had to let him out of the hospital due to bed space and acute suicidal patients.
I am in absolute shock finding this forum as I had not correlated the two things at all yet with my son and in utero exposure to Yutopar! Please for anyone reading this who may have information for me to get help for my son feel free to contact me!!! {edited for privacy}
