My husband and I have had our daughter, which is now 30, tested for everything and the doctors can't seem to be able to give us a diagnosis, and things are not getting any better. My beautiful daughter has struggled and suffered so much and it breaks my heart to know that the Yutopar that was given to me, affected my baby. My daughter is the one who suffers from it on a daily basis. My second child is normal, and I did not take the drug while carrying him. I would really like to talk to all of you, something needs to be done to care for these kids that are now adults that can not cope. They sleep, eat, are extremely depressed, suicidal thoughts, learning problems, unable to conform to society, lies, bi-polar, anti-social, can't function in everyday life and with everyday problems. We need help. If anyone out there could possible contact me {edited for privacy}.
This a link to the article that was in NYTimes in 1992 about the Canadian study of yutopar that showed the drug had no effect of keeping women from having a premature delivery. The results in fact showed that there was no difference in delivery dates of ones administered the actual drug versus a placebo. Except the fact that the ones who took the real drug had medical side effects. This was only a seven year study as well. Seven years seems a lil young to me to notice obvious mental or emotional side effects in children. As for all the posts of attorneys stating the the drug did as it said it would and the baby surviving. It seems according to the study it had nothing to with the drug as the other half that took placebos had the same effect, without the medical problems I might add.

I'm so sorry to hear this so many of these adult children are locked up.... Many have committed suicide, in a lot that just walk the streets,, I guess we'll never know how many of these adult children are just lost forever. We as parents feel like we failed them in some way, but that's not the case you love your kids as much as you can you try to be a good kind decent parent do everything you can to protect them and it's just not enough. Even though I know we mothers are not to blame for the drug that we took because we wanted that child, we trusted people doctors & FDA that had no idea what this drug was actually capable of doing. I guess in this sense of reality they were playing God and because we follow their lead and paid a very high prices and our children paid an even higher price, for it in so many hurtful senseless ways. I wish I could find all of these kids but there is just no way I've tried everything I know to do, just got a letter back from a lawyer stating that the that the case it's just too old the child lived the drug did its job, if we had known when these kids were babies, when they were born we could have done something. It just didn't become a problem until they hit puberty and now we deal with the aftermath of the storm, we watch our kids suffer cry hurt. At this point all I can say is we as parents live the nightmare and watch it on a daily basis. I thank God this drug is no longer used in the United States it goes as far back as the 1960"s and was used until the 1990,s and some foreign countries still use this drug today..., if you are or thinking of taking this drug please give it a lot of thought read these post and understand what these parents are going through on a daily basis before you make the decision to take this drug. I thank all of you from the bottom of my heart, for sharing your stories, with this site I knew I wasn't alone. It has been a long road hard journey and I'll continue to walk this road until the end.
I was on yutopar in 1982 for pre term labor. My son who is now 33 had extreme problems his entire life. As a parent I tried Dr's, mental clinics, military like camps, numerous medications. He is now looking at life in prison for several charges. He has an extremely high pain tolerance, needs little sleep, can't function socially, could never keep a job due to rages. He started on substance abuse after we tried Ritalin because they said he had ADHD. I had him locked up so many times but no one could offer any diagnosis. Such a shame that it seems it's too late for him.
His older sister has no issues at all and has always led a normal life. What is there left to do?
I was on Yutopar in 1988 from mid-March until early June when my twin girls were born. I suffered post-partum toxemia, two grand mal seizures, and coded twice before I was given magnesium to bring about a chemical balance. I never suspected that Yutopar was possibly to blame. My daughters were born healthy but as teens began dealing with OCD, depressive disorder, anxiety, panic disorder, ADHD, and in the case of one, substance abuse. The girls are 27 now. One has but has been on paxil for 25 years and can't seem to get off of it. She was on Vyvanse for ADHD is now off of that, thank God. She has managed to be a productive adult. The other is on Lexapro and Wellbutrin and visits a therapist. She has not had good results to date and her life is not progressing. She is unable to keep a job; she is socially disconnected; she has depressive disorder and is a binge drinker. Now that I know the cause, I am seeking help for her.
Hello people.
My Mother took this medicine During her pregnancy of me. Almost being Born at 26 weeks. So I consider i had a near death experience there. Pulled back into my body into life by Rithodrine. It is not easy. Being a child who wants to go back to the essence of life, being hold back in a body, in eathly existence by my parents, docters and Rithodrine . But hey! I suppose God wants me here. I can complain to docters, pharmacy. But this Will put me even more down. Having a near death experience at such early age makes you very sensitive. But in a society as we live in there is no place for this. And yes it is difficult experiening hell on this earth because children Born with near death experience have an open door to the astral worlds. And in this society this is considered as a mental disorder. While in more spiritual developed groups like indians, these children where guided and thought to navigatie through these realms to become seeers, visionairs, docters of the tribe. Spiritual development is very important in this case. To know there is love, light, God, angels and guides who can help is through hell. Back into the light. To be guided on this Path to the light, the get the teachings that are spiritually helping us. But in these Times the world lost this connection and are stuck in delusion of this world and lost connection to nature and the true nature of our existence on this earth. It is terrible to be Born here, being so sensitive with open doors to realms that average person has forgotten to exist. In a world where nature, the earth and people are being misused violently. It is difficult to stay sane... I am very happy to have found a spiritual school, natural medicine, my way to get to know the realms of the astral worlds through my studies. I decided to Make this sensitivity into a study. I found a way through spirituality, religion, to deal with the rollercoaster i am Born in. Still going up and down. But i learned to recognise the levels of existence and start to get well on my way to the light.
There is hope. A lot of hope. Rhitodrine children are not hopeless, forever broken. We need not to be fixed there is nothing wrong with us... We need trust, understanding surroundings and guidence through this sencitiviness, we need something to look out for, believe, love, light. See what I mean? Please leave a reply.
I wonder if it is too late and too complicated for a legal suit. One thing you can do for your son is get him some therapy with someone who specializes in mindfulness-based practices or to a mindfulness based stress reduction group. Very helpful for anxiety. Failing that, there is an excellent workbook called Mindfulness based Stress Reduction by Elisha Goldstein and a good book called Calming your Anxious Mind by Brantley. Good luck to you and your son. My son too has anxiety issues that may be related to taking ritodrine when pregnant with him in 85. All the best to you and yours.
Don't know how recent these posts are but I took Yutopar in 1991, in Canada where I live, when I was pregnant. My son is highly anxious and tells me he has "dark" days. I am so shocked stumbling on these posts and know in my heart that this is the reason why my son is the way he is. No - I am angry. What can we do?
Sorry, I dont have a link but you can google "New York Times article Ritodrine" it should come up. They never got back to me...as usual. Ive contacted many people including lawyers and FDA ,no reply ever!!
Hi, I took Ritodrine for months several times a day while in bed with a pregnancy in 1986. My daughter seems to be fine - some issues with cortisol levels but I have a heart arrhythmia. I remember how I used to shake uncontrollably after I took it right before meals.
I would be interested in reading the article from the NY Times. Do you have a link for it or could you post it?
I am looking for more information on side effects of Ritodrine or any legal suits. Thanks.
Thank you Brenda for posting on my facebook....so many families struggling through this and have no idea why ...
My 34 year old son also suffers the same bi-polar, schizophrenia. I took the drug in 1981. Please let me know if there is a legal suit. I have my medical records. Thank you.
Also took yutopar from Oct. 12, 1986 until Jan. 20, 1987 to prevent miscarriage. My son has suffered night terrors, ADD, and more….I couldn't understand how a drug that made your heart pound like it was coming out of my chest and the veins in my neck bulge and vibrate…..how could that be good for the unborn child?? Patty from Ohio
I have a 26 yr old son that was diagnosed with sensory integration at age 4. He had significant developmental delays in all areas. When he was four yrs old a team of specialist advised me to drop my child off at a state hospital for children that are severely MR or significant problems that can't be addressed at home. Their advice "take him there and forget you had him!" I was given morphine when I went into premature labor seven weeks early. Once contractions were stopped, I was placed on bed rest and prescribed yuropar for six weeks to prevent premature birth. I have an older son who had no health problems and then my younger son, the 26 yr old has struggled all his life.
I too took ritodrine (in1985) and have wondered if it may have affected my son,now 30, who suffers from anxiety, depression, substance abuse. Had sleep and emotional regulation issues as an infant and child.
I sent an email about this drug to New York Times because they did a research article about the drug in 1987 I believe. Still no reply, contacted lawyers, no reply and what's even more frustrating is that this site will not let us exchange info to contact each other ! I tried but couldn't get the word out, they edited it out of my reply to someone else. Pat, I hope your well girl! I have your number! Lol
I am in tears reading these posts - was on Ritodrine/Mag Sulfate IV 24/7 for 6 weeks to prevent premature birth. Beautiful daughter, now 27, has struggled for years with eating disorder; bipolar; anxiety; alcohol/drugs - in treatment 7 times in last 10 years. We often wonder why nothing seems to work and only recently did I start to question the possibility of long-term side-effects of these meds - I am horrified at what I am discovering and looking forward to seeing where this will take us.
See my answer below About adaptogens like rhodiola and astrogalus. Also liverherbs help, like milk thistle. Yutopar affects the liver so a proper livercleans like Andreas Morritz describes, helpend me a lot. Also floweremedies are of great value in my life a a yutopar-child. Its a long difficult way. But its worth trying. If you want contact i would love to share my experience. I have Walked the natural way, never take any chemical drugs
They gave me Yutopar in 1986 as well. My daughter is 28 now and her anger is escalating and I'm worried about her. Please let me know if anyone found some help. Thank you.
I took Yutopar for both of my preterm pregnancies. I took it with my 1987 pregnancy, of which I delivered a son 3 weeks early. He has kidney and liver problems. I took it again for my 1990 pregnancy and delivered a daughter 6 weeks early. She has kidney issues and a heart arrhythmia. I started with a neuro muscular disease a couple of years after my last pregnancy. I have often wondered if all this has anything to do with the Yutopar. While on the drug it made my heart race terribly, which it still does occasionally.
I'm so sorry Bonnie ...my heart aches for each child, mom, dad, sibling, family member that has dealt with the aftermath of this horrendous drug. It saddens and infuriates me to no end to know there are millions of kids in the prison system, on the streets, in mental facilities, or graves because of this drug. It is a nightmare for all.
