Yutopar Aka Ritodrine Experiences (Page 3) (Top voted first)
UpdatedMy husband and I have had our daughter, which is now 30, tested for everything and the doctors can't seem to be able to give us a diagnosis, and things are not getting any better. My beautiful daughter has struggled and suffered so much and it breaks my heart to know that the Yutopar that was given to me, affected my baby. My daughter is the one who suffers from it on a daily basis. My second child is normal, and I did not take the drug while carrying him. I would really like to talk to all of you, something needs to be done to care for these kids that are now adults that can not cope. They sleep, eat, are extremely depressed, suicidal thoughts, learning problems, unable to conform to society, lies, bi-polar, anti-social, can't function in everyday life and with everyday problems. We need help. If anyone out there could possible contact me {edited for privacy}.
I'm a 29 year old who has struggled with social anxiety, depression, add... I have heard the traumatic story of my birth from my parents all my life. How my mother was put on this drug and almost bled to death. She mentioned that it had been pulled from the market but I never quite made the connection until last night when we were talking and I jokingly asked her if she had done drugs while she was pregnant with me... then it dawned on me. She DID. She took Ritodrine. Suddenly.... I realized that actually, there is a reason I am the way I am. I have spent quite a bit of money on medications, therapy and have missed out on a lot in life due to my social issues that went undiagnosed until my adulthood. I still suffer from these issues to this day, unfortunately. I really can't believe there has not yet been a legal case filing, especially since the drug has been pulled from the market and after reading all the reviews... I'm not sure where to go from here but I for one truly believe that this drug has destroyed lives and has gone unchecked.... it's hurtful too because all these years I just believed I was weird.
omg I just read your story....I am so sorry, what a horrible thing to go through...this drug is a nightmare....I see my daughter as a daily reminder as I watch her struggle with trying to get through life not knowing how...my heart goes out to you and your family...even though it's been awhile, it has to still hurt knowing things could have been different, and you would still have your sis here....thanking you for sharing that with me....
My son will soon be 27. I was on Yutopar for 15 weeks prior to his birth at 35 weeks. Though we took him home at 2 days, he spent much time in the hospital during his first year. When we asked back then, if any of his issues could be related to the medication, we were assured "no". As the years went by, there were many issues with behavior, especially on the social level. I spent so much time at school, that I knew all of his teachers and principals personally, and not because I wanted to. I finally removed him from public school in 10th grade, home schooled him, and he got his GED at 17. He is extremely bright, but with emotional issues. Was on medication for depression, but he wouldn't stay on it. He has had 2 jobs, which family helped him get..but has been unemployed for over 10 months, and now he and his family are living with my husband and me, since his unemployment fan out. He lacks the ambition to go find employment on his own because he would have to "talk" to someone he doesn't know. Counseling never helped. I am just glad to know now that we are not alone.
Your story sounds like mine. My son age 29 has suffered from birth with one thing after another. Been extremely angry, agitated, impulsive and has been in psychiatric care diagnosed with everything from ADHD to schizophrenia and on every possible treating medication to no avail. He's been in prison in jail on drugs and drinks to cope which only makes situation worse. I have been asking the question; "How did the Yutopar/Brethine affect my unborn child?" for years and told every psychiatrist and psychologist the same concern for years and NO ONE WOULD LISTEN. I have suffered terribly to see my beautiful miracle baby turn into a monster and have felt so helpless to help him. He has suffered the most from emotional and social isolation and at times I can hardly bear the agony that he feels. Please help. If you know of any medical treatment or legal suits to get the help he needs, please contact me {edited for privacy}
Linda the Dr. Started me on tablets when that failed he would put me in the hospital on iv the first time I was 6 months and I still had my daughter 6 weeks early. The problems still growing every time a different doctor and a new diagnosis... I am in hopes to find more families... There are power in numbers.
I am in tears reading these posts - was on Ritodrine/Mag Sulfate IV 24/7 for 6 weeks to prevent premature birth. Beautiful daughter, now 27, has struggled for years with eating disorder; bipolar; anxiety; alcohol/drugs - in treatment 7 times in last 10 years. We often wonder why nothing seems to work and only recently did I start to question the possibility of long-term side-effects of these meds - I am horrified at what I am discovering and looking forward to seeing where this will take us.
Hi, I took Ritodrine for months several times a day while in bed with a pregnancy in 1986. My daughter seems to be fine - some issues with cortisol levels but I have a heart arrhythmia. I remember how I used to shake uncontrollably after I took it right before meals.
I would be interested in reading the article from the NY Times. Do you have a link for it or could you post it?
I am looking for more information on side effects of Ritodrine or any legal suits. Thanks.
I was on yutopar in 1982 for pre term labor. My son who is now 33 had extreme problems his entire life. As a parent I tried Dr's, mental clinics, military like camps, numerous medications. He is now looking at life in prison for several charges. He has an extremely high pain tolerance, needs little sleep, can't function socially, could never keep a job due to rages. He started on substance abuse after we tried Ritalin because they said he had ADHD. I had him locked up so many times but no one could offer any diagnosis. Such a shame that it seems it's too late for him.
His older sister has no issues at all and has always led a normal life. What is there left to do?
My cousin is an attorney near NYC. I shared this thread with her and asked if she could please help me find an attorney for a legal case. She specializes in senior citizens issues or I would have enlisted her help. I pray that she will find someone to help us and our children soon.
Reading all these this morning, i'm shocked. I didn't realise there were side effects from this drug but can relate to so many of the issues. i was given this drug in 1993. Only just realising now that it could be the cause of my daughters issues. Absolutely horrified!!
During my pregnancy with my son, I went into premature labor going into my 6th month. I was given Yutopar by drip for a week in the hospital and orally in bed rest until his birth. He has suffered from depression, Social Anxiety and suicidal thoughts since he was a young boy. I never connected the symptoms to this drug until I for some reason looked it up. I am angry and frustrated but I may have lost him had I not taken what I was told was a new drug not ever "experimental" drug. Thank you for allowing me to see other parents that have the same or similar problems with their children.....even though my son is now 30.... he has never been happy!
I took Yutopar in 1989 for 12 weeks both orally and thru an IV (mulitable hospital stays). My 27 yr old daughter, who has a multitude of similar symptoms as the other now adult children ,has a daughter. A product of a partial molar pregnancy, a rare condition, she now has issues. Has anyone else had grand children yet and they too have issues ? No one else in our family has these issues occur. We all need to chat. THE GRAND KIDS MAY ALSO BE AFFECTED BY THIS DRUG.
It is like reading the story of my son's life. He is 34 and has dealt all his life with the same problems as you. So glad you have found a "path". He is still struggling, behind bars, but soon he will have another chance to make his new path, armed with new information. Thank you for your story. :)
Dear people. This medicine damage is not hopeless! It includes big big lessons on how to deal with heart pain and rejection of love on the soul level. My mother had an infusion in the veins for 2 weeks and polls for weeks. I recognize all symptoms and I have to deal with it everyday. I follow a path with natural medicine. Homeopathy Natrium sulfuricum and annacardium fit this picture. Also rhodiola and astagalus and CBD oil repair this damage. I also am a member of Santo Daime church and drink Ayahuasca or Santo Daime, which is giving a lot of healing and insight on a soul level and balances out the hypofyse adrenal Ax which becomes impaired by ritodrine. Also Centaury, Holly, Pine, Star of Bethlehem, rock rosé, agrimony, cherry plum tracks of Bach flower remedies work on balancing out this damage. (Do not take all these flower remedies at once. Seek advice from a Bach flower therapist...) There is so much to heal and so much help! Know this!
It's been a problem finding an attorney to take our case.
My son is 29 and has mental health issues. I took ritodrine for 6 weeks 24 pills a day, once every hour as prescribed for pre-term labor. My second child is fine, didn't use ritodrine. I want answers.
I'm so sorry to hear about your daughter's negative experience with Yutopar. Other than taking action with lawsuits, the only other thing I would suggest is that you report this drug to the FDA via their medwatch program at:
fda.gov/Safety/MedWatch/default.htm
However I don't know how manufacturers might go about compensating you for what you and your daughters had to go through as a result of taking their product. But I'd imagine this is where you'd have to take legal action.
I hope this helps! Looking forward to hearing what others might have to say...
hi, my name is me also taking this drug from today i have take only one tablet after reading u'r post i don't want to continue this drug ..m so worried plzz help mein what should i do now?
Hi My Name is Tracy and my 23 year old son was diagnosed with mixed Bipolar Disorder and severe Anxiety last year while he was serving our country in the Air Force. He was discharged without any assistance. He has attempted suicide several times and is currently undergoing shock treatments. I am a nurse and when I was 20 weeks pregnant I went into labor with him and they stopped my labor and then sent me home on oral yutopar until 26 weeks. When I heard that is was banned I knew something was not right and I also questioned why he had this horrible mental illness. I also believe the medication caused this since my oldest son is completely normal I did not use this drug with him. I would also be interested in a law suit.
I have not been able to find an attorney who wants to take on the challenge.
