Xanax Vs. Buspar (Page 5) (Top voted first)
UpdatedYes-what is the major difference between these 2 meds? I have taken xanax for several years. I'm thinking abt. changing to Buspar. Can you switch meds like these without tapering off the xanax. Does Buspar help w/ Panic attacks?
COULDN'T HAVE SAID IT BETTER. BUSPAR IS A ANTI-DEPRESSANT. XANAX CNS DEPRESSANT.
AMEN TO THAT BLUEBIRD. AFTER MY 2ND DAY INTO THE 3RD DAY OF XANAX WITHDRAWAL IT FELT LIKE THE FLESH WAS BEING RIPPED OFF MY BONES. XANAX IS A HORRIBLE DRUG TO BE ADDICTED TO.
xana is addictive ,dont cover the sun with this pills needed redesign threre is something in this pills that is addictive en you starts with 1m or 4 daily the problem with xanax is start loss effect end you needs more pills to keep the same effect i think pfizer need redesign this pills for used it for long term end them it seem the best benzo nobody could beat that pills
People all i can say about buspar is its great and it works. i have GAD very badly n im going on two weeks now n I'm doing good but fixing to have to get it upped more. i tried having an attack this morning and as soon as i put my buspar dwn my throat i calmed dwn n quit shaking. everyone is different body wise but for me buspar wrks great for me. the dr starts u out oon low dose but u go back once a mnth n if it has to be increased then they do. all i can say is dnt be afraid to speak about how u feel to ur dr. u r just trying to help urself. thts wat i did. i had too much anger built up n was fixing to flip badly
If you've been taking Xanax or any benzo regularly for over 3 months, you have to taper or go inpatient to detox. You can't just switch to buspar because they aren't the same class of medicines. Quitting Benzos can cause serious harm and should consult a doc to watch your vitals and such. Plus seizures and death are likely without medical attention (if you used long term...over 3 months). Good luck!
I have a medical phobia. It's been called in the past "white coat syndrome". I'm a 52 year-old woman and can't remember a time in my life I haven't went into major panic at the thought of a doctor or dentist's appointment. To the point I've only visited either when close to dying or a tooth so bad and painful it's time to pull. That happens about once every 10 years. But back in September '13 I ended up with another diudenal ulcer with excessive low blood count (7.2 the first was 5.2) and other bizarre complications and on a merry-go-round of doctors visits and procedures. I'd become so panic stricken I actually fought a doctor during an endoscopy where I was out on anesthesia and ended up in the ICU. So, on to an Ear, Nose and Throat guy I was sent. He never put a tube down my throat. He found me to be so paniced he prescribed .5mg of Xanax twice a day and visits with a Speech Therapist to try and help me swallow again. (My weight had dropped to 110 lbs fully clothed with shoes on a 5'3' frame.) Another visit to the ENT a month later and I was gaining weight. He again prescribed the same dose of Xanax with the "addiction" warning. I then started to take the drug as I felt necessary and stretched the prescription 3 months. That got me through many other doctor appointments. But when I asked my Personal Care Physician for another prescription with smaller doses, he said no. Put me on Lisinopril and in under 2 weeks I'd lost all equilibrium and have all the fall scars to prove it. Then he switched it to Busporine and it worked great the first 1 1/2 weeks then I started crying for no reason and had the desire to either starve myself or wrap my car around a tree RIGHT NOW. Threw that s**t away and have an appointment with him in a week. I imagine he and I will be at odds about the Xanax because I refuse to take another drug that remains in my system 24/7. I need short term, short acting relief, not a constant diet of meds. If he doesn't agree or give me something along those lines (already proven to work with my system) then I'll get a new doc or say "so long" to them for another 10 years.
my doctor left his practice. he had me on 1mg xanax 4 times per day as needed. i was doing very well with that dosage and that medication. i have agoriphobia and panic disorder. new doctor immedieatly wanted me to stop taking xanax..( why fix whats not broken?) and put me on buspar. (garbage.) the buspar set me back about a year and a half in my quest to control my anxiety. i was so pissed. er visits again, days hiding in my room and so very uncompfortable. so...i insisted that she put me back on the xanax which as she explained is for anxiety. it doesnt work the way xanax works. and it takes WEEKS to start working...so back on the ranch ..im reliving my discompfort which is an understatement. my friends and family noted the difference in me immedieatly. busbar did not work at all for me. she said that xanax was a spot treatment for anxiety attacks. my life is an anxiety attack. i can tell almost to the minute when my xanax wares off. she was worried about addiction and over use...befor she got a chance to know me. wow. so i pushed to get my xanax back told her if she was so worried about overuse..not to be. i am too afraid of running out to over use or abuse xanax. i am my normal happy self when im taking it. quality of life is much more important then a doctors false worries about a stranger is going to over use her meds. i have been on pain meds for 5 years, never failed a UA or pill count. i told her if she was SO worried about it that she had to ruin an entire month for me than she cud call my pain clinic and they can tell her what a good health patient i am and that i dont ever fail a UA or pill count. thats just not me. try it if you want but im wondering why you are interested in the change?? buspar didnt work for me or anyone that i spoke to about it. the think about xanax is, after you have been on it for awhile...and i mean a good while..you may notice that your body has become used to the amount you take and you may have a bit of break thru anxiety. and this is a sign that sometime in the near future the doctor may have to up your dose or prescribe more xanax pills to help you with this. buspar is not for depression. if your looking for a depression medication that acturally works and doesnt take months to do so, i take welbutrin. it will kill your appitite, you may quit smoking and gives you a lot of energy. i had to have my original dosage cut back because it was effecting my anxiety but it most def got me off the couch and movin! and for those of you who read this, im not just in it for the drugs. i have lost my husband to a heart attack, my brother at 53 and my grandson at 7 1/2 months old. terrible things happen to people..and sometimes we need a little help to get thru thease terrible times. good luck..and to all of you remember you DO HAVE a say when it comes to you medications. the doctor is there to listen, not dictate to you about his opinions. stand your ground, be polite and keep a journal of your moods and anxiety and depression. its no joke to feel this way and i wish you the very best of luck...
I agree 100% I suffer from severe tension headaches that last 3/5 days at a time . They are debilitating feels like the back of my head has been beat on with a sledge hammer! I had xanax for about 7 yrs and they controlled my headaches . Now I load up with fiorocet / advil / hydrocodone / moraphin / ibuprophin all day long and that really dosn't help ??? When 1 or 2 mgs of xanax would solve the problem and make my life tollerable?? I don't understand ??!!
Im 36, had intense anxiety and panic attacks since highschool. In my early 20s i self medicated with methamphetamine, stilnox, valium, cannabis etc u name it. I went on methadone and got up to 160mg a day.. after living likea zombie for a year or so i began withdrawing.. Never looked back,, My Dr provided me with 100 2mg xanax bars when needed. Depending on life id take between 0 and 3 a day. not more than 2mg at a time. All of a sudden i find my Dr left the state, her replacement looked at my record from 14 years ago and said no more xanax, your an addict. Im like i was addicted to methadone years ago and beat it.. But no i cant find a pych or dr willing to even listen.. I tell them the truth and they say no, i try n stretch the truth and they refuse.. My life is falling apart again, i try ordering online and get scammed. Im at my wits end, have got 4weeks off work holidays but no dr takes me serious.. im up all night panicking. Like years ago. I just need help,Xanax help me and im 36, not a baby. I should be able to use them if i dont abuse them.
yeah mate like u said though u barely take meds,, the dr was a fool for throwing xanax at u.. they are very addictive for sure mostly due to the short action. I never really suffer from any benzo withdrawal and i can imagine that would be evil, christ they say its worse than opiates and i used to withdraw from methadone if id taken my takeaway doses. If i was u mate id get some therapy before u start taking meds, they work for heaps of people,, just not all.. I wish u well mate.
I would talk to your Doctor about this. it may just be that the mg needs increased, I know it is addictive but you have to do what you have to. If not your life will always be up and down. Also may want to ask the Doctor to change it to 1 mg of kolonopin which is a benzo however 1 mg of kpin is equal to .5 of xanax. Also xanax is a drug that is instant release. you can get extended release xanax but I was on 2 mg xanax and since its instant. it hits you right away causing the full drug to hit you at once. This makes you tired and the other problems. I asked my doc to change it because kpins when you take 1mg it will last 5 to 8 hours. I take it 3 times a day and buspar 30mg once at night to help sleep. I know how people feel with doctors and the way the treat people and what my new primary who i love was like why did the nero doc want you off the kpins (I take them for extreme anxiety and stress to point my hands shake bad and, also for my epilepsy. When I told my primary, he said its not a siezure med so i showed him look i have been on 5 meds at first 4 years ago. Then my primary doc said this one is cheap and when it came out was for seizures. The first sentence in the papers from pharm say: kolonopin is used to treat seizure disorders. Then the next par. says This med is goes on about the med then says half way down also used for anxiety and stress. He still said no and put me on one the other meds i had been on and just never took it. My Primary doc and therapist both said no and my Doc was calling the nero doc to tell him no this one pill takes away from taking multiple pills and has worked for over 4 years. When I told him the doc name he was like o great he is an a**hole sorry but he thinks he thinks he know everything and doesnt know s***. Its just money in his pocket. But you pay him right? I said yes, he said well if you go to get your car work done do you walk in and just say ok pay and walk out no you dont. If it wasnt for our patients we would not have a job. He needs to listen to you to say fine there are was better doctors, i can go too, get up see what he says. That actually care about patients no matter the med they need. Also you will be reporting him to the medical board.
xanax is physically and emotionally addictive in a serious level you're physically addicted before you know it before you're even emotionally addicted to it been there done that do you DTS and all
and all
I fear this is going to happen to me! I am only 40 yrs old. But, I am experiencing Peri-Menopausal issues with anxiety..no. Some severe anxiety at times. I have an almost 2 year old child and I want to be all the mother I can be. I am scared that I will be considered a "drug addict" if I request the Xanex, which is what I think will work best when I have the anxiety attacks. Which is only periodically.. I will see what happens. Just wanted to express my understanding.
My experience for the past 8 yrs. is that I "could" use (2) .25 Xanax daily, but I really try hard not to. In 11/07 I was dx w/ 3c cancer. So lucky to be here today, but my utmost panic attacks hit for several yrs. upon waking. Wellbutrin stopped that. I don't get the classic panic attacks, but I've noticed as of recently that my anxiety does contribute to my inability to get things done & leave the house! So if I was more aware of my own anxiety, then I know I'd be more functional.
By '13 I was dx w/ sjrogens & fibro.
In '08? I was taken off Xanax & given Buspar. I was taking Gabapentin for peripheral neuropathy (from chemo) & I looking back, it felt like a year+ of my life was wasted on Buspar. I wanted to believe it worked. All I remember is 20 min after taking it, I would feel dizzy for a few sec. I'd go shopping & feel kinda stuck in my own head. Hoping I wouldn't run into anyone I knew. I am an introvert though, so everyone is different!
I remember a post from a guy who said he was taking Buspar & while eating at a high rise restaurant, he looked out the window & thought how cool it would be to fall from that height. There is this superhero mentality that might come from Buspar. And OH!!!! ...my libido was like I was 17 again! Lol. I am 42 & while that would be nice again, I am not ready to try Buspar again. Because I am loving my 10mg of lexapro....& still on trial w/ lyrica.
Good luck!
Buspar was, horrible was,on it for 5 years then doc switched to Xanax no more panic anxiety anger..... yes it's addictive but it gives your life back......warning never ever drink any alcohol while prescribed Xanax very dangerous
i was having a lot of panic involving my heart and i found that when I take malox it goes away, it has magnesium in it and after a little research I found that some meds I was on can cause low magnesium.
this is an opinion. NOT a fact. everyone is different indeed. I have been on Xanax for many many years now. 1 mg 3 times per day as needed for anxiety /panic attics. I usually take in morning..1mg. For whatever the reason, i wake up feel fine, but within an hour the anxiety starts. Perhaps its stress. Doesnt ALWAYS have to be addiction ....so I think it would do us all some good to start jumping OFF of that band wagon for a second and let the sufferers get some friggin relief. Maybe your addicted and that is YOUR plague but dont put it on everyone else. I didnt take a Xanax yesterday. Ya know why?????? Because I didnt Need one. My anxiety didnt flare up at all. For long anyway. I dont take it "JUST BECAUSE"... DO YOU????
Hey. I was on xanax for ten years....1mg three times a day. I had a doctor qho handed out pills like candy...what i did get hooked on was opiates. I (thankfully) never became addicted to xanax but they put me on methadone to help me get off opiates....methadone is as addicting as opiates.....well because that's basically what it is. Anyways getting off methadone was the hardest thing i have ever done. Ive been off everything for over 2 years. The whole point to this is you said you were looking for something to help with anxiety and when i got off methadone i used an herb called KRATOM...it works AMAZINGLY well for anxiety!!!! I also have panic and anxiety disorder and have not had to take anything since kratom. Not only was i on xanax but busbar and kolonopin too....and something else i can't remember the name of. I hope this helps
No,you must taper off.Would be a good idea to talk to your pharmacists. Also talk to an addictions specialist.Withdraws can last a very long time. You might think your going crazy, the withdraws for me have been hell.My doctor wasn't educated in treating long term withdraws.Nausea, vomiting, chocking chest pain, muscle spams, dirty sweats, diareaha. No appetite. That's why I suggested talking to your pharmacist, and an Addiction specialist.Get documents to support your findings.Slow but sure.Be prepared. One step at a time.
I just started taking them today hopefully these will work my doctor has try me on two other meds. That did nothing so iam praying this will work iam not the one like taking pills but I needed something.
