Where To Purchase Paregoric (Page 12)

I've used Paregoric for 15 years and can't find it. Is there anywhere in the U.S. or other countries where this can be purchased?
You can get paregoric in Barbados, Belize, and Jamaica. They sell it over the counter there.
My doc wont perscribe it either. I mad. Been taking since 19 yr old, now 55. Got it for cramps then. Now for diaria from MSG. Asked 2 MD,s both NO. But also no Pharmacy in my backwoods town Will order it.
Karen!
I can't believe that! Where do you live? How frustrating for you! The reason I have taken it (forever!) is I trust it! When they took it off the market (see past posts on this site...we were ALL so upset!), Dr prescribed me tincture of opium and said "if you take more than prescribed, YOU WILL DIE"...well, inasmuch as tinc of opium is about 10x stronger than paregoric, I guess I can understand why! Paregoric use to be available OTC but, guess it was in the 70's or so that they removed it and in California (where I live) it takes a third degree RX to get it (other states, like Nevada, no big deal...just a regular RX will do it)...do you mind if I ask why you need it? Is it for IBS/colonitis or just pain diarrhea problems? Thanks! Betty
hey sevlec...(and all),,,my pharmacy (in No. California) Vons, gets mine from Hi-Tech Pharmaceutical. The last RX I picked up was week before Christmas, and if I remember correctly, my insurance paid the same as it did before it disappeared...now that I have opened m ybig mouth in print, I shall go into my Medco plan on computer and see exactly what they charged! Will keep this in my "inbox" and reply later with cost...HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!!!
Thank you! I can't find a Dr that will prescribe it :(
ALL the prescription meds are going up in price though. Way high for some of the ones I take. If Paregoric is being produced again, and so many patients are interested in it, then the good old "supply and demand" can be a possible factor. Though, the economy being as is currently is, also plays a part in what the pharmaceutical company has to pay for the ingredients. (In My Opinion!!)
Paregoric was taken off the market by the FDA "because they had never studied it". My local pharmacist says that it is now available but will cost approx. twenty times as much .It is produced by a company that bought the rights to produce it .The same thing has happened to colchicine,Formerly cheap now expensive for gout.se
hi karen...
First of all, you must have a prescription from your Dr.
Then, contact your local pharmacies (Walmart, Vons, Raleys,, etc) and ask if they can/will order it for you...for a long time (see history on Paregoric on this Site) paregoric was taken off the market...so many of us were soooo upset! We wrote/called the manufacturer (can't remember name of it now, but post for it and I will find it...don't think you'll need it though as, again, it is back on the Market (yay!) In California (where I live) one must have a triplet RX, but in a lot of states, just a "normal" one from your Dr will do...if there's anything else I can do to help, pls let me know? Regards, Betty
I NEED Paragoric how to I get it? Happy to pay for it. Please help me. Contact me via Email: xxxxx@xxx {edited for privacy}
Emma...
Just saw your Post, re Paregoric and big Gov!
But, remember...Paregoric is back, hopefully for good, yes? And...I really think it was several on this Site, writing and "bugging" the manufacturer to start making it again...we do have fears of it running out again, to to lack of supply and demand...I oh so pray that doesn't happen!
Betty
Sorry to say here is another example of big government. My grandma used to give it to us kids when we had belly aches and or diarrhea. The watchdog again doing it for out own good..yeah right...another freedom gone. I swear, all of this should be available to anyone who wants to buy it..
Thanks, Laura!
Betty
Betty if you ask your pharmacy they will give you a little med bottle to put in your purse
Hi~
Paragoric is once again available from your pharmacist.
I get mine from Von's in Oakhurst, Ca...But others (posted on People's Pharmacy) have gotten theirs from Raleys, Costco, Walgreens, etc. I'm in a rush this evening, but will save this post and tell you the manufacturer that is once again making this "God given medicine" to those of us suffering from IBS, etc first thing in the morning...in California it requires a triplicate (isn't that stupid? remember when our mothers would go to the pharmacy...well, so did I as a matter of fact, and just purchase it over the counter? I could go on and on (and have on treads re paregoric)about why a lot of us needing this medication (I now take it for IBS...have had abd surgeries too) but, can take it for earaches (especially as a child) headaches...my understanding, from all our posts, is that it was "temporairly removed from market" due to lack of need...not worth manufacturing it because not enough demand for it...so, a lot of us started getting it from Compound Pharmacy's (Dr writes RX, and Compound Pharmacy mixes it up for us)...I'm babbling...in a hurry...I will sanely write the name of mfg co tomorrow, I promise...for those of us suffering so from such embarrassing a disease as sudden diarrhea, this is truly liquid gold!X
Betty, I keep mine in my purse at all times, underneath my asprin bottle. Buy a small glass bottle of ketchup at wallmart by the deli, empty it out or use the ketchup. It has a nice tight seal so it wont leak. ( ;
To Betty, et al; The spot underneath all the posts is the only place this site has for people to write a comment. The comment goes up above all the other comments, as the most recent one. Everyone can see them all. It's Ok. = ]
p.s...as of a couple posts ago, I just realized something...(am I correct in this assumption?) if we respond to the post being made (right under it) our reply goes only to the "author" of that post, but if we scroll down to the bottom of all posts, where it says POST A REPLY TO THIS TOPIC, it goes out to all who have posted re this subject? Right?
Thanks!
Sometimes I really wonder about this little brain of mine!
Why haven't I thought about carrying a small amount of it with me at all times??? I am literally housebound with fear of an attack, feel "safe" if husband and I are going somewhere (or just me) when I take a "swig" of it before leaving...take the whole bottle with us if we're going to be away from home for any duration...but, duh(!) why, oh why didn't I think of carrying a small bottle with me at all times? It IS a RX, not as if I'm carrying an illegal substance....again, "happy days are here again"...Thank you!
WHAT A GREAT DAY FOR ALL OF US. I THINK MY CALL TO MICHELLE O. HELPED. I CAN EAT OUT AGAIN, BUT I'LL STILL WATCH OUT FOR THE 'MSG' . I KEEP A SMALL AMOUNT OF LIQUID GOLD IN MY PURSE ( IN A USED LITTLE KETCHUP BOTTLE I GOT AT WALMART) I'M SO HAPPY I COULD JUST S--T, O WAITE I DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THAT ANY MORE LOL, O HAPPY DAY ( - ;
I will certainly do the same thing, hoard it that is. at least one bottle in case it goes off the market again. I have been so miserable with out it, and I am sure I am not the only person. I never knew it was so popular.
