Viibryd Reviews (Page 25) (Top voted first)
UpdatedGoing to start it tomorrow. Anyone else taking it, and if so, how do you like it?
Thanks!
First things first... I am borderline and have horrible anger issues. Little things make me super angry and scream and punch walls and have "little kid" tantrums... the only good part of it, is I usually only do this when no one else is around. :o) My dr put me on viibryd because nothing else I was taking was helping with my uncontrollable rage. It was AMAZING!! I didn't flip out at all. I had issues with sleeping, which I ignored because I felt so great! I had not flashes, which I sort of liked because I'm usually freezing. Then I started gaining weight... like ALOT of weight! 10 lbs in 6 days, and I watch what I eat and exercise almost daily because I have huge weight issues! After the weight gain I stopped takiing it cold turkey (from 40mg dose). I went back on Wellbutrin and thought I was doing pretty ok. Then BAM, two days in a row I have had rage issues because of my dogs. Little things, like they aren't eating out of the right dish... I have 2 dogs and one has a green bucket and one a yellow bucket and they have to eat out of the right one... so anyway, the buckets go soaring across the yard as I'm screaming away (I can only imagine what my neighbors think) and then I slammed the back door so hard I broke it. Now I have broken dog dishes and a broken door.
Anyway, woke up today I decided to start taking the Vii again. I broke the 40mg in half to start with but I don't want to stop my Wellbutrin because I don't smoke when I'm on it and of course it is suppose to make you not gain weight.
I suppose to get to the point of all this... Has anyone stopped taking it and then started again to have more/less side effects? Has anyone had the weight gain issues and been able to stop gaining weight while staying on Vii?
I can't handle being angry like this but I'm seriously concerned about the weight gain!! Help!!
As for weight gain, in the beginning hunger pangs from the stomach for some people cause them to eat extra. That is suppose to subside. The other issue is that people feel better and thus may binge, or enjoy taboo foods, or excess fatty/oily things.
From I know, it takes real discipline, a conscious effort to stick with the former diet and natural foods--not processed.
As for the rage issues, honestly, that is something meds have limited effect on. The best approach, if it is affordable, is psychologist that specializes with that and maybe group therapy with others plagued with the same condition.
It sounds that you are trying super hard to win this battle but you are not too far away if you stick to your guns
and live healthy with the right foods, exercise, and social stuff that makes you feel better.
The doctor gave you one of the most current up to date SSRI in Viibyrd with its special dual acting formula on how it affects the brain and nervous system. Good luck!
I have taken several antidepresssents over the past few years dealing with anxiety and ocd. Viibryd has helped me out so much better. didnot get much results untill dosage was adjusted to 40 mgs. Best antidepressentout there. my pharmacist said it is the newest latest greatest. give it at lest 3months before giving up. there is hope. still struggle at times but atleast 75percent better.
I've been on 40mg for about 3 months now and am experiencing major weight gain. Depression and anxiety are under control ( except for the OCD over the weight gain) and excessive diarrhea several days a week. Thinking about cutting the dosage in half....not sure. Also take Klonopin 1mg at night. I sure hope the weight gain subsides after being on this drug longer. I've taken Prozac, Cymbalta, Zoloft, Lexapro...almost every one out there. So far, except for the side effects, this drug works for me.
I am getting along well with 30 mg, and my shrink says that they can go up to 80 mg if necessary for extreme cases. But, 40 mg is common. I don't see going to 40 mg given how it is working well for me.
That OCD can be really hard to beat. Sometimes it is psychologist counseling to find self help solutions. I take Klonopin as needed to help with sleep or panic attacks, and .5mg works good for me most of the time. Lately, the Viibyrd working means much less Klonopin.
That prolonged GI trouble seems unusual and maybe has to be independently checked out if it does not subside.
As for weight gain, I hope you can fight that off. If not, I found that a formal weight clinic specialist can intervene and put you on a great diet that will work. Good luck with all.
Hi Shellielynn, did you just stop taking it or did you cut back slowly. I started at 10 mg's, then went to 20 and now have been on 40 mg's for 5 months. I have had constant diarrhea the whole time and am at the point where I am afraid to leave the house because of that. I want to just stop taking it, but again, am afraid of what major side effects might hit me. Any thoughts you might have would be greatly appreciated. I do NOT ever want to take any more anti-depressants. Thanks, JTW
I take 40 mg of viibryd. I've been on it for 10 months . I have a strange sensation when falling asleep. Its like brand zaps and a falling sensation . Had anyone those experienced anything like this ? I can't really explain it. I hate it . I've had trouble with my memorysince starting it . I really want to stop taking it or at least lower my dose, but I'm so AFRAID of the withdrawal symptoms.

Always wean slowly over 10 days to avoid withdrawals
Hope you find relief in other ways.
Good luck.
I've been on 40 mg for about 6 months now and for me it has been worth waithing for the side effects to go away. In fact I am actually doing much better on viirbyrd. I still take Klonipin at night to sleep but I feel so much better on this new meds. I also have found that I've lost weight on viirbryd on all the others thru the years have put weight on me so much so I was above 300 lbs now I am under. I like this new med just try and stay on it a little longer the side affects may just go away.
Hi joanie
I did stop taking the viibryd and did not ween. I think it would be better to ween off the med. There are many side effects, like difficulty sleeping, anxiety, and the feeling of being dizzy, like being on a boat and having sea sickness. I did notice that my GI problems went away within a few days. How is your progress coming along?
Hi again and thanks for the response. I went down to 20 and my stomach problems seemed to have diaspearred overnight. I will stay with the weening as you and Joe and probably others have suggested. I know that it would be too much of a shock to my body now to just go cold turkey. Thanks again.
Hi Joe, I am going to go off the Viibyrd slowly but my stomach is already so much better. I am now taking 20 mgs and will stay on that for about a week and then go to 10. Maybe the 40 was just too strong for me, so I will see how I feel at the end of the week. Thanks for your reply. Joanie
Thanks Joe for your response. After talking to my Dr, we changed some of my other meds. Still on the 40 Vii, but also take Metformin ( Glucophage ) for diabetes and she changed that to the extended release. Mag Oxide is another culprit that can cause the diarrhea thing, but I am Hypo- magnesium so I have to take that supplement. That was increased to 400 mg 4 x's a day. I've found if I take the Mag Oxide with food and along with changing my diabetes meds, so far much better this week. I feel better on the Viibryd, going to hang onto it for a while longer and....join a gym I think !!!
Glad to hear that. Hang in there!
The glucophage is very common and effective. I thought the GI problem seemed a separate issue.
FYI 5% of women have PCOS poly cystic syndrome that upsets hormones. Weight gains. Excess body hair. Type 2 DB. HBP. Read up on PCOS and if that is possible talk to your dr. It causes and contributes to depression and general anxiety too.
Good luck on finding better health.
BTW always some exercises each day even if walking
Joe you are well informed and so helpful! Truely a God send! I found this site when I felt helpless, this has really helped me.
Just started Viibryd 10mg yesterday and did not like the side effects. On the commode over and over, hot feeling all over, uneasy feeling and head feels like has jello in it. I have severe PTSD,(Vietnam '68) anxiety, diabetes type 2, periphiel neuropathy, lost kidney to cancer last year now other one at stage 3,OCD,many other problems from agent orange and have been on heads meds all. The only one that ever helped me was amitriptlyne and after 10 years tha VA took me off and left me hi and dry to deal with on my on. That definitely did not and is not working so I thought I would try Viibryd. Should I stay on it for awhile with feeling so bad on first day?Desperate
Go to 5 mg instead for 4-5 days, and then go to 10 mg. Many doctors are finding out that it is best to start with 5 mg for first few days, and then 10 mg for several days.
That is because this drug is potent and really works well once it kicks in for many people, but not all of course.
Sorry to hear about your very serious health misfortunes.
I hope the VA can still ultimately do the right things possible for you. The VA San Diego just did a terrific heart by pass on my brother, age 73, and it was a wonderful result and saved his life. My brother has been very satisfied with the VA in Long Beach and San Diego, which included total remission treatment of non-hodgkins lymphoma that started in 2003 and totally gone now.
Good luck
Can you just cut a 10mg in 2pieces to get the 5mg
