Viibryd Reviews (Page 26) (Top voted first)
UpdatedGoing to start it tomorrow. Anyone else taking it, and if so, how do you like it?
Thanks!
Exactly. They only make 10s, 20, and 40s. My dr said that some people go to as high as 80 mg to get the best results, that is, taking two 40s. But my dr said that is not to common.
Yes Dayne, you can cut a 10 mg to 5mg.. that is what my doctor had me do to get off of the stuff ! I only took 10 mgs for about 10 days, but became more depressed on the Viibyrd...I am glad to hear it works for some people, that is great and I wish you all continued success. As for myself, I am now on nothing at all as far as antidepressants, taking 1 mg of klonopin at bedtime to help me sleep and help keep my anxiety at a minimum. My depression is usually only seasonal (winter), so am praying I do not get depressed this coming winter...eat right, EXCERCISE !!,(yoga or zumba) and surround yourself with positive people !! Works for me ! A little shopping does not hurt either !! LOL...
Good points. The thing about Klonopin, one of many, many benzos, is that you can have tolerance and not know it. You are on a light dose, and some go much higher per day for panic attacks in particular.
You ought to talk to your doctor about Lunesta for sleep, as it is the preferred sleep meds with most specialists, such as sleep doctors over Ambien or Sonata.
Also, for anyone have a sleep disorder, it is important to have a sleep lab study to detect sleep apnea, which causes wake ups and can damage people's internal health.
If people snore, there could be sleep apnea, but, it can exist even if no snoring.
Hopes this helps and good luck
Joe,
Just to point this out...it may not be everyone, but I have major sleep problems and cracy dreams on sleep meds. I have tried serveral. I was scared to go to sleep!!...lol...Xanax really works best for me....all I need to stop my head from spinning thinking about stuff...
Just a thought!!
Well, good question, and if you read the many posts, you can see that some people stopped it or had side effects that bothered them. I personally have done well with it now since May, and it is the best SSRI I have tried to date.
My dr said start with 3-4 days of 5 mg with food, and then, upgrade to the standard initial dose of 10 mg and then the dr makes further dose decisions based on subsequent return appointments. I did that and had really no material side effects. I am at 30 mg and doing fine with that dose.
Well, okay, yes I have heard about bad dreams and mares on sleep meds. The thing about dreams is that it is said we rememeber them only because we wake up enough to remember them. Dreaming happens all the time, but if we do not wake up, then, they are lost and not remembered.
To wake up means that there is a moment of change in the REM sleep, where there is enough alertness to remember the dream, but, you don't need to literally even be up and aroused and fully awakened. Get the point, which is that this makes sense, if you are affected by dreams or mares, you are waking up to some degree to then have some awareness of what it was all about.
How you can stop that problem is really the issue. It may not be stoppable with sleep meds. It can be hit or miss. Most people don't have such problems with sleep meds.
The think about benzos for sleep is that the sleep REM archecture is adversely affected so that the best sleep may not happen. That is why benzos are given for short term sleep usage, and other meds are given for long term sleep help.
I always advise a consult with a certified sleep doctor specialist and go in for a sleep lab study. You go in at 8 pm at night, get hooked up for electrical impulses, and then photoed during your sleep, to see what is happening. You leave about 6 am in the morning. There is no pain and it is like going to a motel or hotel room with a TV and stuff to relax and go to sleep. If you got to take a sleep med to fall asleep, they let you do that to see how it works on your sleep patterns.
Most people that do a sleep lab test are very much surprised on what they discovered and can find better solutions in this process for more restful and rejuvinating sleep.
Good luck.
Elizabeth, am weaning off Celexa now getting ready to start V next week. Do you feel better as a result? Is it worth it for you? Celexa is addressing the anxiety issues but am not happy with side effects.
Have been on Viibryd since May 19. started with 1o for 1 week then 20 for 1 week then 40 for 2 weeks. Was too strong for me. I went back down to 20 for another 2 weeks. them back to 40 for a few days. Still too strong. Dropped down to 30mg for about a month and was doing very well. I went back to the recommended dose of 40mg and now I tolerate it really well. I had GI trouble on and off, mostly off but now that is much better as well. I am now on it for over 11 weeks and am doing great. I am taking it for anxiety , very mild depression, some ocd and for over analyzing things to the extreme. I took effexor for one day before I started the viibryd and was so sick with vomiting, headache, diarrhea and dialated pupils. So that is when my Dr. switched my meds to Viibryd. Stick with it till you adjust to it and it is a really good drug. It just takes some time and patience. z
I am also on Xanax .50 that I take only when needed to help sleep and it is the best relaxing sleep aid I have ever taken.
Good to hear a positive story on this med.
The interesting thing about SSRI is that scientists still do not know the exact reason these medicines work. They diagram pictures of the actions of the drug on the brain, but when you read the literature, they don't know the actual specifics of how it works, just the theory.
Hey everyone! I've been on 40mg for about a week now. I love Viibryd but I've been having eye pain recently. It feels like my eye lids are sore. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm wondering if the mg is too high for me.
That is a great name you have!
I have heard about joint or muscle pains or aches, that subside. Maybe this is one of the rare side effects.
Normally going up from 20 or 30 mg to 40 should not really amount to any side effects. The side effects are more at the very beginning.
If it is just one eye, then, this seems odd too.
Do you have any kind of history of eye disorder.
What kind of pain is this too?
If this is the only side effect, it sounds like nothing to stop you from keeping up with the drug and dosage and just see what happens.
I have been on Wellbutrin 150 and Cymbalta 90 for about 2 years. Worked great for awhile, then I noticed a slight decline that got gradually worse toward the end of the first year. Doc reevaluated, told me to wait it out, went back this past spring, still the same, encourage to "wait it out' since I had so much life crap going on (always do :/), finally this summer put my foot down and told him it is Not working. Staying on Wellbutrin 150, starting Viibryd. Did 60 on Cym for 5 days, just a few brain zaps, then went to 30 and bonnnngggg I am so weirded out. Brain zaps, head echoes, tired, just not good. I am on day 3 of 30 Cymbalta. Doc told me to taper down a week on each dose but my daughter is going to have surgery soon and I don't want to detoxify in the hospital when I need to support her. So I decided to start my 10 dose of the Viibryd today along with the 30 Cymbalta pill. So far I am just still really weirded out from the detox of Cymbalta. Weird dreams, tired but trouble sleeping. *sigh* I need to get a sleep study done but I don't have an overnight sitter. Anyhoo, I am also on a med for thyroid. I don't see a p-doc, just a general and then a psychologist. I love my psych, she is great! I took my pills with a nice big fat/carb/high protein breakfast, took a shower (that was weird) and now am just reading the forums and listening to a wood burning fireplace on youtube. That is relaxing. Hard for me to do anything when I move I get zapped. So chiling for now. I don't work outside the home, both of my kids have special needs and I am single.
I suppose I would take a stab at this tough situation you are in. From my experience, it can be a 30 day process to ween off of a long term SSRI usage. Now that you are taking a new SSRI, it is how to say how the two in combination maybe affecting you. It gets to the point where a psychiatrist is really in the best situation to advise you on what you need to do. Maybe you can do in for just one psychiatrist doctor consult just to talk about the meds and get them straightened out to your satisfaction. Also, for sleep, it would normally not be a big deal to give you some sleep med temporarily to help you through the weening process. Your doctor is moving you over to a new updated popular SSRI, which may bring you improvements you are looking for.
I've been on viibryd for almost a year . I take 40 mg once daily. I want to wean myself off of it , but Im so afraid. My doc told me that I can lower my dosage from 40 to 20.the morning after the twenty mg dose was a nightmare. I felt like I was in a dream, very tried , very bad . I thought I was gonna die, so I took a forty that night. It took a few days to feel "normal" again . I want off of this drug, but I can't handle the withdrawal. I've had withdrawal from cymbalta, paxil, zoloft... But nothing like this drug. I need advice plz
Joe, I've asked my general doc for a referral to a Pdoc and he said I don't need one. He said that I've been able to maintain my depression so he isn't worried, just to keep him apprised. He is a bit slow on the uptake when responding to me. I am very sensitive to meds so I know when my body is doing okay and when not. After resting this morning until about noon I was able to get a few things done, then the zaps were bad again so I have been on the couch watching movies with my kids. I am okay sitting/laying down, just feel thick headed and ready to zap if I move. I am positive the Viibryd 10 helped significantly with the lower withdrawal I am feeling this afternoon, so I will continue the next 2 days on the one pill of 30 Cymbalta and one pill of 10 Viibryd. I have help both days so am hoping this chills out. I can't take sleeping pills because I need to be able to wake up if my daughter chokes during the night, so that was a good idea but not feasible for me. Thanks for the insight. I see my psychologist tomorrow and she is very helpful keeping an eye on me. Steph, I would try to taper more slowly, can you try to go down to 30 instead of 20?
I see better the issue. However, if money is no factor, pick a psychiatrist yourself for a basic consult and say you want to know how to handle this whole process of switching and getting on the right dose. Maybe your psychologist doctor can give you a referral. It just seems to me that you need more help than your own GP doctor and you need peace of mind during this transition.
But, we do know the Viibryd dosage is valid and common, and the whole issue is switching the right way. Some people will have troubles getting off of any SSRI.
I went off Paxil and Lexapro at different time, and I did not notice any ill effects. I did it slow over 20-30 days, cutting pills less and less over time.
In some cases, some people just have a tough and long time to ween and recover to a normal state.
I hope this helps and you can find good solutions.
You got to be brave and cut back slowly, by cutting down the pills into smaller ones, and then, consume maybe more cut downs during the course of a day. So, maybe you take 5-10 mg 3-4 times a day, spread it out, small little pieces, and see how your body adjusts to the cut backs in that way.
I have never had a personal issue going off of Paxel and Lexapro in the past. I don't know how Viibyrd will affect me since it is a new one for me since May. I may be on Viibyrd for 1-2 years and then see where I stand with going off of it.
In my case, my problem is long term GAD and PTSD combined that have created heart palpitations and nervous troubles and insomnia. Hence, that is why I am on Viibryd to deal with those underlying disorders. My heart palpitations ended with Viibryd, which is a great relief to get rid of that.
Best of luck that you can reduce successfully and have good return to normalcy of your brain chemistry.
I wanted to update again, had a rough night sleeping (waking up every hour) but the quality of sleep was better, and I went to bed early. Up at 6am but okay because even with the waking up, it still amounted to about 7 hours (good for me!) My psychologist visit was very productive. After not going for 3 months and falling back into depression hell, we have new goals and I likened her help to a 3 legged stool - I need her help (for accountability of my progress), the medication, along with physical/spiritual home remedies to keep me stable. Will be doing daily journeling, started a mild exercise regime this morning again (short walk and stretching), made myself change clothes and freshen up. It was very very good that I started the 10mg Viibryd pill yesterday with the 30 mg Cymbalta taper, as today the zaps are still frequent but down to a "strong pulse" quality that i can deal with. I am realizing I am having body aches but I think alot of that is being out of shape and sleeping on my couch, and coming off the Cymbalta is aggravating that. I know Cymbalta is also prescribed independently for people for body aches so it could be that was masked for awhile. Focusing on one day at a time, but not having any foreseeable side affects from Viibryd so far. If anything, it's been fantastic in helping the tapering of Cymbalta. This morning I ate a half carton of large curd cottage cheese with the Viibryd pill. Feeling very optimistic. My only other goal for the day, other than caring for my kids, is to get my college stuff submitted. Anything else is gravy! Hope others are doing well! Joe, I am on a fixed income, doing online college full time, a teen son that does online homeschool (he is borderline Aspergers) and a daughter in Kindergarten with high special needs, so I cannot work outside the home. I also don't have a vehicle. I forgot to ask my counselor about a referral to a Pdoc but will try to remember in 2 weeks when I see her again. Thanks for the suggestion!
Sweet city! I have no willpower over them with Vybyrd. And, just for the record, I just called in my refill for the above and my doctor's nurse said to stop taking it. No explanation til' next week. Damn....I was less depressed than ever!
