Going to start it tomorrow. Anyone else taking it, and if so, how do you like it?

Thanks!

Wellbutrin was the best antidepressant I have ever experienced. Sadly, it is contraindicated with the other medicine I am on but if you can, take it, too. It is wonderful.

Hello Kay. Well, it sounds like some progress, but, obviously it is a difficult progress. As time goes by, it all ought to work out as it is suppose to.

One thing I learned is that these medications do work differently from person to person. Some of it has to do with why is the psyche disorder in existance.

In my case, genetically I inherited an anxiety gene of some sort so that I have had GAD for much of my life. Then, on top of that I had a near death experience that created a Post Tram. Stress Disorder, PTSD, that ultimately pushed to the need for some benzos and SSRIs. My current life is not really that stress full. It is just the hereditary issue with a bad prior life incident, where now in my senior years I found that I needed to have another round of SSRI. So, in my case, Viibyrd is working well and I am happy with it.

I have a great amount of background in psychological affairs and heatlh care, and interacting with psychologists and psychiatrists in my career. But, I am not an actual licensed doctor in that regard, but, nevertheless very well understanding the whole subject and the medications.

In your case, you are on the right track to find self help improvements that are well listed on the internet. There are many things of a natural way to deal with psyche issues. All of them should be tried to one degree or another as they do work.

Make sure you also get vacation time, even it is very short and economical and modest. Everybody has to have a vacation.

Anyway, I hope you can improve and control and cope, and so I wish you the best.

went back to 40 mg of viibryd for 2 weeks after taking 30 mg for a month. Last 3 nights of 40 mg I had really bad nightmares that I could not handle. So now I am back on 30 mg and doing well. I was on Zyban (wellbutrin) to quit smoking back in 2002 and stopped after 5 days because I felt like a zombie and could not think straight or function well at my job. In 2007 I went on Chantix to quit smoking and after a month only took the morning pill because of the bizarre dreams from it. BTW I did quit smoking with the help of the chantix for over 5 years now. Now these dreams from the viibryd were really not just bizarre but total horrible nightmares. Now I am good and happy again.DYIND

susie - zapped, to me, means an electrical shock feeling in my head, as if I could feel the synapses firing at random intervals so strong it feels like a physical electric shock - not pleasant. I also get "pulses", like zaps only muted, but just as annoying when I get 4-5 in rapid succession. I liken the feeling to when you slip down a flight of stairs 3-4 at a time suddenly but then right yourself. You get a rush of adrenaline and experience the 'thump thump thump' of missing the stairs in quick succession, and get that after shock of "whoa!" That is what pulses are like to me, with an electrical zap quality to it.

donna- Donna, I've never had migraines so I can't answer your question :(

barbie- barbie, I also quit tobacco with chantix 10 years ago and am still smoke free. Congrats on your quit! I also had to really cut down the chantix dose, not from dreams although mine were vivid, but from bad anxiety but a low dose still worked for me.

I am on 150 mg buproprion once daily and that works great for me in conjunction with another depression med. I am totally off of the Cymbalta now, it is day 2 totally off and TERRIBLE but I am hoping it subsides now that I am upping my Viibryd to 15mg from 10. I have 2 more days at 15 mg of the Viibryd then will up myself to 20. I am upping in 5 mg doses so i can evaluate how I am doing. The 40 might be too much for me as well. Time will tell. Okay, pulses are bugging me going to rest now. Take care all and best of luck!

All, I went on Vii because i was experiencing severe menopause issues, i am 53 and was fatigued, had insomnia, hot flashes and seemed like i was always getting sick! i started with 10 mg, then went to 20 mg, and i seemed good there. my hot flashes went away, slept well, but i began to gain alittle. then my doc raised me to 40 mg, that's when i started to have a few of those horrid nightmares (sleep paralysis, where you can't move but you know you have to, very scary). After two weeks of being on 40 mg, i felt like my overall health wasn't as good as on 20mg, so i dropped back. I occasionally got hot flashes, but was fine otherwise, the DOWNSIDE, I have gained 10 pounds and i CANNOT get it off. I was overweight when i was in 9th grade and have been a size 8 for a long time, i am now a size 12/14 and I can't take it any longer. i tried to wean myself off of it, taking 10 mg a day for 4 days, then 10 mg every other day. i now have a headcold again. So has anyone gotten sick trying to come off vii? i called my doctor and said that maybe i tried coming off of it too quickly, going back to having drainage in my throat and a stuffed up nose seemed way too coincidental with weaning off vii. So i am going to try being on 20 again, going to 15 mg for a week or two, then 10 mg for a week or two and 5 mg? Does anyone else have advice on the best way to wean off of this (i will determine if i can) and whether they get back the same symptoms they had when they decided they needed to go on it! I can't stand the weight gain, if i have to stay on it, what has anyone done to lose weight???????????????

My dr. said he wanted me on this to lose weight. it only took me 9 days to figure out that i was not taking this drug. I am trying to come off of cymbalta, all i can say is listen to your body and come off slowly. I am doing that with cymbalta. The vii made me hungry, manic, bad dreams, sweat and hot and i am not in menopause. I think personally, that this drug it too new, too many side effects are out there that we do not know about. i bet when you get off of it you will start to drop the pounds.

There is definitely a pattern of similar issues with Vii vs other SSRIs. For me, Vii has worked nicely, with 30 mg and really minimal side effect that went away.

All SSRIs can create appetite and over eating as a result, especially if mood improves. It is a major reason people go off of them if they put on weight. It can be battle to control weight, yet, it has to be done somehow to win that battle.

One thing for me is that I used to exercise a lot more before going on this drug, but, I have felt less interested and motivated to break a sweat. I am also more ambivalent towards sex libido, yet, it is hard to say if the Vii is a factor since that can be a complicated story anyway for other reasons.

As for the memopause issues, that is a new one on me where a SSRI directly affects that, but maybe so if hormones are not being made due to changed chemistry of the brain.

I do recommend that people go very slow on stopping, with cutting the pills down smaller and smaller and take 3-4 weeks to go down to zero.

I know that I have to be on a SSRI for my kind of genetic predisposition and PTSD incident that rattled me really bad. I may need to be on this to 2014 at least or something like it. Thankfully, I can well tolerate this rx, but I can see many cannot do so.

So, this drug seems not meant for everybody.

Hello all, I am new to this discussion but wanted to offer my experience so far on Viibryd. I suffer from general anxiety disorder and depression. I have tried Paxil, Zoloft and Celexa (Celexa was the best, however it pooped out on me after 2 1/2 years). I am on my 3rd day of transitioning from 40 mg Celexa to 10 mg of Viibryd. Basically I started off with half the dose of Celexa (20 mg) in the morning, and then take the 10 mg of V with lunch or dinner. I have taken it with food each time. I don't feel any different, and barely any side effects. Light headaches in the evenings, more "movement" in the bathroom area but nothing uncomfortable. I have no appetite so I am not eating very much (which is fine with me as I don't want to gain weight). I haven't had any dizziness or stomach cramps as others report. I was slightly nauseas this morning, but everything makes me nauseas so I honestly don't know if it was the V or not. One more thing - I am a social drinker and I had a few of Mike's Hard Lemonades last night, as I was curious if I would have any bad side effects from alcohol, but other then a headache I was fine. I will continue to keep you posted on this...it's only the 3rd day so I realize that isn't enough time to assess. Thank you for all the information - it really helped me make my decision on if I should take this drug or not.

Hi there - I wanted to say that I have had more headaches on Viibryd then with the other medicines. I have migraines as well and this drug seems to exacerbate the headaches, however I'm able to get rid of them with regular aspirin. Sorry you are suffering from that, but I am told they will go away with time. I'm on the 10mg of V and on day 3. Have gotten a headache every day since I started.

According to the SSRI literature, there is nothing chemically about this class of med that creates weight gain. What happens is some people get a vorcious appetite, hunger pangs, or, when people feel better, they eat more. Sometimes, the effect is that people get lazier and don't exercise.
All of this can be fixed by really watching the food intake and at least walk after meals, to burn off calories and to increase metabolism to more calories to be burned off later.

I have been on this drug since May and no weight gain issue at all. Good luck

donna, thanks for your kind words. I have been on 20 mg for about 3 months now. I had about a 5 pound weight gain as i was ramping up, but it really set in when i was trying going from 20-40 mg. I exercise no less, and my eating patterns have NOT changed. If you read on line, A LOT of people have gained 40 pounds on this! It definitely is a reality....I just wish I knew of how someone weaned themselves off of it. I noticed nothing within the first month or so, it was after i went on maintenance, and the fact taht i've done weight watchers and jenny craig, both for at least a month, and couldn't get off more than 3 pounds! Last year, I lost 15 pounds over 3 months, but this year, on vii, nothing is working... thanks to all

Jenna, thank you so much. Believe it or not, i had all the symptoms you described. Was fatigued, sick, hot flashes, etc., vii really helped me. It was VERY unfortunate that i had the weight gain. However, with that being said, i have heard horrid things about HRT, I could've done that a long time ago. Most people and docs have told me stay away from it, long term affects? was any of this mentioned to you? how did you wean off the vii? how long were you on it? thanks!!!
