Taking Hydrocodone For Depression (Page 8)

Updated

I am wondering if anybody else out there has taken Hydrocodone and noticed that symptoms of depression are alleviated? I find that many of today's anti-anxiety and antidepressant drugs come with unpleasant side effects, whereas while taking Hydrocodone they aren't there. The caveat to all of this is that yes, I know that Hydrocodone and opiates in general can be addictive. So long term use would result in withdrawal symptoms. I'm just wondering who else might agree with me on this?

S LEE yes hydrocodone I believe does amplify depression as I too have been on many anti depressants with no avail but I do also believe it is because of the pain we suffer and we cannot do the same as before this is my case anyway. I hope u find this helpful good luck stay strong.

Less than 100 years ago, when opiates were legal, they were often prescribed for depression. Opium was called Hil gul-plant of joy and considered God's gift to man. They were used for much more than pain-even children were common users. I suggest reading the books: Opium for the Masses by Jim Hogshire, the article Ignorance Kills by I don't know who LOL and The Plant of Joy by Sir William Osler and at least one book from this century from a recent doctor from here in Nashville, Opiates and the Bi-Polar syndrome by Doctor Robert Cochran. Um I think the title may be off but look him up. He wrote a few books based on cases. He prescribed what I think are suitable doses of opiates-240mg-360mgs a day. The medical community was not happy with him but his clients were referred to him from their psychiatrists from all over the nation. He cured those with multiple personality disorder, schizophrenia, bi-polar and more-opiates are necessary for some of us for more than just pain. Think about it. If I suffer allergic rhinitis, I don't need all the Benadryl and sinus meds. If withdrawals causes sneezing, watery eyes, runny nose them DUH! Opiates will fix ur sinuses! At one time they were prescribed for "things pertaining to a woman" that included cramps, fatigue, depression, inability to get a good nights sleep, irritability, hot flashes, night sweats and all other PMS or fibromyalgia symptoms, not just pain! During the 28th century you could not even consider yourself an author or artist unless you had "a healthy opiate addiction". America was built in the backs of coke and opiate filled workers-watch the documentary The house I live in......

Yes! Opiates were at one time considered the fisrt all natural antidepressant! The Plant of Joy, Gods gift to man. Opiates had very ,any uses besides pain relief. Dr. Robert Cochran of Nashville, TN prescribed larger than normal doses of opiates and cured folks of many things such as Schizophrenia, Multiple Personality, Bi Polar etc. and that was untill 2012.

I agree with you regarding finding out why you're in pain to begin with. I take 1/4 of a 10/325 1x day AFTER all NSAID's have failed. It relieves the pain and the depression that comes along with it...I don't find myself "craving" it or needing to increase from the 1/4 tablet. I've been treating myself this way for about a year...no increase in using the norco in terms of quantity.
Recently though I visited my orthopedic Dr. and he prescribed a Medrol 4mg pack to reduce inflammation as I was experiencing radiopathy down my right arm. This was a big break through for me in terms of the opiate use. Steroids do make you feel pretty good, but with significant side effects after a few days.
After 6hrs my nerve pain and body aches were gone - and after 24 hours I didn't need to take anything for discomfort and found myself not even wanting to take my normal 1/4 norco and when I did, it didn't have the same effect - I actually felt a little sick. After tapering off the steroids, my pain returned in about 2 weeks.
It was interesting to feel a pain free body and to feel free even for one week of NSAID's and opiates. I didn't realize how much inflammation I had and how much the discomfort really affected my day to day mood --even when I thought I was in a good mood, I was still feeling a bit crummy and had just gotten used to it over time. But steroids do give you a bit of a false sense of feeling good early on, so it's hard to tell there were a lot of things in the mix. Opiates, too can give you a false sense of well being -- but I truly believe that you can "know that" and still experience the benefits of them and not increase your dose - just using your awareness is sometimes enough. I find that I do feel much, much better like an old version of me 20 years ago and that's what I enjoy -- the me I've always wanted to be and can be -- discomfort and depression are robbers of life --

It's called EDS--endogenous deficient syndrome--look up the article Ignorance Kills--you don't really suffer from depression but lack of natural opiates in your system--I believe it's due to them becoming illegal and we are the first full generation not getting them over the counter for the many reasons they used to be prescribed for--that's why the whole country is now allegedly bipolar--they really need opiates--the govt knows this--it's easier for them to arrest users instead of admit they are wrong--please read that article and Dr Robert Cochran--look him up--his books will show you

Hi I take Hydrocodone for pain relief. I have arthritis, lowerback pain, mingraines daily, I will never be pain free but when my pain is relieved I feel emotionally better. I Can cope with my job better and I can get through my day. I do not abuse the drug, I am very aware of what helps me and when. There are times I just use Ibrubrofen. Sometimes nothing will help and I just dont take any more of anything. I know my body and I do not want to become addicted on pain relievers. I sometimes force myself to get up and just do something to move. I think you have to do multiple things to relieve depression. Find out what makes you happy and get moving, If you have an addictive personality you may not be able to control how much you take. It is very important to be true to yourself. You want to live a long happy life and have a good one. Some people will never have that because of drugs so be careful of what you take and always talk truthfully to your doctor. Good Luck

RE: Taking hydrocodone for depression. This may be needed if your pain is chronic and keeps you from doing your daily routine. It's a mixed bag. After awhile your amount may increase. The APAP or Tylenol may be harmful to your liver. Also, driving is more dangerous. After a time you become acclimated to the effect of slowed reflexes. Age will slow you down. Pain is a outcome that comes with it. Personally, I use Adderall for depression and it works well as my BP is fine. It also gives me energy and I feel like I'm just more interested in all aspects of life. I can't say it is indicated for everyone but for me it's a true Godsend.

Hey there! Surprise! You treatment resistant depression is not treatment resistant--you are like EDS-endogenous deficient syndrome or, you don't produce enough opiates in your brain which is why the hydrocodone is the only thing that helps--look up the book by Dr Robert Cochran, Opiates and the Bi-polar also read the article Ignorance Kills

I have suffered incredibly from depression for 40 years and hard work will not get you out of it. I have been on every anti-depressant on the market and some that are not. I have had Deep Brain Stimulation and Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation and both failed. Luvox is the only med that has worked for me and it was miraculous. It only lasted a few years. When I fractured my hip I went on Vicodin. It made a amazing difference in my depression and anxiety. My Psychiatrist did not want me to stop it but, it is an opiate. What can you do?

Yes I've noticed just a tiny amount of Vicodin (half a pill) will relieve me of severe depression like nothing else!! And no side effects! And I'm feeling very normal for that day! But I can't get a prescription... I only was given a prescription when I had a dental issue and that's how I found out about it!

Hydrocodone gives me the same happy feeling but it doesn't last
Why can't they figure out what in the medication does that and develope something not as addictive

I also feel great when I take a pain pill. I also take antidepressants, just to let you know, I suffer with clinical depression. My psychiatrist told me that people are born with opiates in their brains. Some of us are born with less than other people which defines the way we feel. If you take hydrocodone, it is an opiate, and makes up for your lack of opiates in your brain therefore alleviating your depression and making you feel good. Only problem is the addiction and the fact that you have to continue to up the dosage.

Wow! I found out that I have low Thyroid. I have been begging doctors for help for over five years. Ive been prescribed four oxy 30mg a day and the first month I took six a day. Felt great! Volunteered alot plus did great in school. My dose jumped up to 15-20 a day! I found out that a medication I was taling, Phenytoin, when taken concomttantly with oxy causes hyper metabolizization. Ok so five years of 450-600mgs a day, trying to stay no more than 300mg. I stop taking Phenytoin, dose drops to 12 the following month it drops to 10, then eight. ok it finally gets down to between 5.2 -6 a day and of course doctor fires me. My current doctor I am trying really hard to stay at four but cant get below 5.2. I told them I stay in a state of PAWS even though I have oxycodone every day. I explain how can you go from 15 to 4 and not be affected? I think 6 is good because after almost six years, without external variables, my dose has never gone beyond six. It never will go beyond six. I don't feel high or feel anything and now with thyroid, am convinced its because of low oxy. I have found documentation indicating that even though opiates are co sidered depressants, they RAISE T levels!!! Tryig to stay at four oxy a day is literally killing me! Why prescribe additional meds withh side effects when you can just add two oxy a day to raise thyroid levels AND no side effects AND no more stress over being short for pill counts. My hears will probably blow up from withdrawal every miny for almost six years plus staying in PAWS...so yall who ate depressed find so eone to give you opiates. They only been illegal for 70-100 years and all the bi-polar, thyroid, depression, crime, mental illness in society is due to not enough opiates in our bodies.....we suffer from Chemical Pica and Edogenous Deficient Syndrome

LOL so does your doctor think you wont need the antidepressants forever? I dont see what difference it makes....and not everyone gets addicted. For six years my personal ( if I never had to count hours) dose has not gone beyond six per day. It has decreased when that other meds was stopped. So what logic will he use now? Let me quess, so e addicts are special tricky and lower their dose? LOL

Hydrocodone and oxycodone are made from Thebaine--it is the only NONNARCOTIC part of the poppy plant and it actually a stimulant though doctors refuse to acknowledge that.

Folk who are treatment resistant may have Edogenous Deficient Syndrome--not enough pain or opiate receptors--unfortunately doctors won't acknowledge this--look up the article Ignorance Kills

I have Vicodin for chronic pain. I feel that it can increase depression. It does work for pain but I often feel very down after taking a few dosages. One pill really doesn't have an effect but when pain is worse and I take more than a few, I become very depressed. Wish this wasn't true because it would be a better medication if it didn't affect my mood so severely.
