Stopping Levothyroxine (Page 5)

I have been taking Levothyroxine .88mg for the past two years. I just left town on a three week vacation and realized I left this prescription at home. Should I be concerned?

I have a question about the dose of Levothyroxin 50mcg I was prescribed in December 2014. I did not realize I had low thyroid and felt no different after taking the medication prescribed so I stopped it. Soon after I stopped taking it I began having issues with a very sensitive stomach and diahhrea nearly every day. Could this be a side effect of stopping the medication abruptly or should I see a physician for the problems I have been having for 2 weeks?

Mamabear are you menopausing.....your symptoms sound like you are. I've been on Levothyroxine for 22 years and been going from 150 to 137 back and forth, because of my labs results, my thyroid is high or low at times. I wanted to find out, if I stop taking the meds, how would I feel. I felt cold... sad... confused... tired.... SO, THAT was not good for me or my body.. I had to go back on the meds. I feel pretty good now. That, means; I can not stop taking the magic pill....no matter if I am up and down. GB

I've been on levothyroxine since July 2014. My levels were never horrible, just slightly low. I started off on 25mcg, then bumped to 50mcg after a few of my levels were still borderline. Now my levels are fine and my doctor wants me to stop the medicine. I thought the medicine was why my levels were fine. I don't get it. I'm still losing hair, exhausted, etc. Plus I have bipolar, anxiety issues, depression all the time. I had those for years before thyroid issues though, not sure if related. But still anytime I say I am so tired all my doctors chalk it up to having 3 young children. I'm 29, I shouldn't feel this awful! Thinking of just stopping my levothyroxine since I'm almost out anyway. Day 2 without it I've been fine, no worse than usual. Before levothyroxine I lost 20lbs and since getting on it I've gained it all back. Going to get back to eating healthy and exercising regularly, nothing made me feel better than that.

I have been on 25mcg of levothyroxine for about a year. I've never had a weight problem. Since on this medication I've put on 10 lbs and cannot take them off. Im just as tired as I was before. The dr. says my numbers are fine and won't change the dose. I'm thinking of just stopping the levothyroxine and seeing what happens. Anyone else have this experience.

I have been on levothyroxine for about a year. 3 months prior I was diagnosed with depression/anxiety & began taking pristiq. I felt immediately better with the pristiq. When I got on the Levo I did not feel better & have thought it's caused some fatigue & weight gain. I also questioned the diagnosis because I appeared more hyperactive thyroid weight wise. I've gained about 5lbs which isn't so bad except I feel low energy & am not working out which I have enjoyed my whole life. I stopped taking the Levo to see if I'd feel better a week ago. Now I have a bad headache. And so I googled Levo withdrawal & now see that even if my dr put me on it prematurely or it was wrong diagnosis that stopping the meds suddendly can cause hypothyroidism! So I'm going to start back with the pills in the am & confess to my dr what I have done. Hopefully no permenant damage. Next time I'll speak to dr first.

I was diagnosed with over active thyroid in sept of 2013. After 2 unsuccessful attempts at drug therapy (due to having allergic reactions) I had iodine radiation twice. I have now been on 100mcg of levothyroxine for about 6 months, I have gained over 25lbs and continue to gain. Also my migraines have gotten worse & was wondering if it could be from the drug. I still am tired all the time & don't know if I should stop taking it to see if it helps with the headaches or wait and talk with my neurologist in April before I do anything.

Tessa,
By chance have you been checked for Fibromyalgia? That can cause the weight gain, tiredness & pain. Do you have knots all over your body?

I was just wondering what the long term effects are of just quitting the levothyroxine. Ive been on them for 3 years now for an underactive thyroid. I am currently on 220mcg after slowley building upto this level as my bloods kept coming back not right. Apparently they are fine now. I still feel like rubbish everyday, tiredness, no appetite, weight stays the same. This is while I was taking them. Ive decided to stop as I dont feel any better and have been off them for just over a week. So now concerned over the long term effects.

Hi. I saw the endo and she said my anxiety is unrelated to my thyroid and that maybe i have developed an anxiety disorder?? I am currently not taking thyroid meds. I still suffer from anxiety occasionally. I am due to go.back to endo.amd have levels checked. I am way over due for blood work. I just didnt want to deal with it anymore. I am hearing more and more that going to see a natural doctor is the best way to go but they can be very expensive. Many drs dont want to prescribe naturally desicated thyroid meds.

I had cancer and thyroidectomy in 1992. It took a very long time to get my dosage regulated - it kept going higher and higher. Now, I go back and forth on 250 mcg and 275 mcg for the last 15 years. Today, my (primary) said I had a new dosage and it was down to 150! I find that hard to believe. Could this be right?

My husband has been taking 110 Mcgs of levothyroxin for the past yeAr or so. He has normal thyroid levels w out it but Dr. Put him on it cuz he removed half his thyroid. He did not have cancer but a tumor they could not identify. He has been have stomache issues and has developed tinnitus . He does not want to take the levothyroxin any more and is insisting on discontinuing drug. I'm nervous of the side effects. He appears to be heavier now than when he began taking it also. Should I worry if he stops taking it?

AFAIK it takes ~6 weeks to de-/saturate thyroid tissue. Perhaps that is why 3 weeks withdrawal went not much noticeably.

I'm so fed up with this levo ,I'm on 100mg. I don't know when it's best to take it,morning or night,I'm rubbish at taking tablets anyway. I also take 1000mg of metformin once a day but am supposed to take 2000. One has to be with food metformin and the other apparently not. I'm so blimmin tired all the time and have gained a lot of weight. My body aches all the time and I am depressed big time. If I have a .gd day it's very rare and does not usually last all day. I had half my thyroid removed in may.large growth lots of small ones. Still some on the other half. I want to stop all my medication fed up with it

Try to find a natural doctor. Becaful with the endothey might tell you to keep taking the levo medicine. You are having these symptoms because the levo is synthetic and it does not come close to the hormone that our bodies produce. Our bodies know the difference between fake a natural. Try and look for natural vitamin for thyroid. And also do research on the levo and take the information to your doctor. Because all the doctors do is right out prescriptions and do not know what half the ingredients that are in the medicine they perscribe

Because the medicine is synthetic. Levo is not natural. Levo is taking over and your body is trying to adjust to it or process it.our bodies know the difference between fake and natural. My son is 20 I am thinking about taking him off of the levo. Do the research on levo.
