Shortage Of Soma (carisoprodol) Dan 5513
UpdatedI am writing this thread forum to discuss the shortage on soma and carisoprodol. Recently even the best pharmacies in my area are completely out of soma. Had to wait a week just to get my second best preferred soma 350mg generic. I had to settle for Jubliant Cadista Pharma generics which are the imprinted OP 35 white tablets. I have been on the Watson formulation for over 5 years which are imprinted DAN 5513. Luckily when Activas Elizabeth / Mayne Pharma acquired Watson Pharma then of which now Teva Pharma has acquired Activas medications. Activas was smart as they kept the Watson formulation of soma and dispensed the watson generic formulation. Last month I was able to find the watson DAN 5513 tablets and was informed they would have them in stock in future no problem. This was not the case as this prior months fill was hectic. I had to switch from my main pharmacy to my second preferred pharmacy because they carried the watson formulation by activas. They assured me they would be able and continue to get this generic. The pharmacist even has informed me in the past that the DAN 5513 tablets are the best working generic somas and have even been informed by my pain clinic staff that the only truly working muscle relaxers are Soma or generic carisoprodol. This was reassuring when I got this information.
Anyways I called to fill them this month and little to my surprise they informed me they would order them and have them in that following Monday. They did not. So I noticed that the bottles have been stating dispensed by Activas. After this shortage if you receive soma and have been getting the DAN 5513 tablets it will no longer say by Activas on the rx bottle it will be saying Teva. I believe this action has caused delays and shortages of soma. Every pharmacy in my state has been out of all soma for like 2 to 3 weeks. The wait is over but of course the orders came in and were not DAN 5513 tablets but other generic makes such as Jubliant Cadista imprinted OP 35 white tablets, SciGen Pharma imprinted SG 104 tablets. Even the Qualitist now Solco generics are not much around. These are the tablets with the check marks. Anything qualitest will have the logo of a checked marked looking V. I have had a pharmacist even inform me that the DAN 5513 are even far more superior to any others including the qualitest checked marked V ones. Anyways when I called my pharmacy to re-inform them that their pharmacist always makes sure I get the DAN 5513 tablets and that they were ordered for me. When I called to fill them for the DAN 5513 watson tablets some lazy pharma tech lied to me and informed me that they are no longer making the DAN 5513 anymore, which is just not true lol. Just goes to show how our pharmacies work and how bad it is when people do not pay attention to their generics.
Anyways so I called Teva Pharmaceuticals as activas is now acquired by Teva and they produce the DAN 5513 tablets still using the old watson formulation thank goodness. I informed the pharma tech that she was most likely wrong and they most certainly are making the watson formulation tablets still. So I called teva to confirm they are still making this watson formula imprint soma of DAN 5513. The representative at Teva Customer Support informed me what I knew to be true and that they of course are still making these tablets and all I needed to do was to call my pharmacy and inform them to contact their wholesaler to order a called "short dated" order fill and have their wholesaler order directly from teva for short dated tablets and rx fill. Short dated usually means there is an excess amount of tablets manufactured from prior batches. The Teva rep informed me to simply call my pharmacy to order from wholesaler a short dated order of the DAN 5513 but that they would have a much sooner expiration date of 01/2020 to which I am fine with. I believe expirations on medications to be a scheme for the most part medicine is medicine. I have had soma, xanax and many other meds that have been expired according to pharmacy bottle and manufacturer bottle and they worked just as good as a freshly picked batch. So I called my pharmacy back and corrected her and informed her (she lied) not really but informed her and the pharmacist as I am close with them and know they want these ones in their store as they always order great generics no matter the cost and they do better business than ones that just order in cheap generics. Anyways I called them back and informed them they informed me wrong and they still are making the DAN 5513 tablets but from now on after the shortage they will no longer say dispensed by Activas but will say Teva. Teva will be taking over soma/ carisoprodol 350mg tablets from now on so if you want these DAN 5513 you will need to tell the pharmacy to order in Teva generics as they still use the watson formulation for their soma (carisoprodol) thank goodness.
I then proceeded to call the pharmacy after speaking with teva and provided the NDC to pharmacy on prior call to which they stated their system shows Manufacturer unavailable. I informed teva this on the call which they said they have short dated DAN 5513 watson now teva tablets and have pharmacy call wholesaler. I informed my pharmacy tech and store of my call and requested to have them short date order me some in. The pharmacy tech must have felt some tension when I corrected her as she said she would try and call me back. When she called back I could tell she was bull crapping her way out of it way bad could tell by her tone etc that she didnt even try to order in short dated tablets for me.
Anyways she informed that she could not do that and tried but I could tell she didnt try and I had transferred my rx to them under circumstances and being informed there would not be a problem getting the dan 5513 tablets in which means I could not switch it again to another pharmacy that may have them so I couldnt even really try it would have been pointless.
Teva informed me that these DAN 5513 tablets that will be fresh batches and not short dated will be available 03/31/2019. So I was stuck with ordering in a different generic or taking the one they received in the mail after a huge shortage and I went with the Jubliant Cadista ones imprinted OP 35. They are very effective but not as good as the watson formula DAN 5531 tablets. I informed my pharmacy of the date they will be ready again and that I will be expecting those next month.
Anyways my inquiry is to everyone out there who takes soma if they have had the same issue and noticed this huge shortage going on for soma's and if so what generic are you guys taking and what feedback can you provide. I am very well versed in pharmacology and how big pharma works so wanted just some simple feedback on people who take soma and what generic they get and if the shortage has affected anyone. Which generic of soma do you guys take? How do you like it? And if taken prior how would you compare your current generic to the DAN 5513 and Jubliant Cadista generic soma the OP 35? Thought this would be a good page for people in my shoes with a nationwide shortage of soma and how it has affected us and you and what generics are being taken and feedback on them. Thank hope to get this thread moving with some great feedback for us all to share and chat about. Anyways let me know everyone God Bless the Healthy and stay healthy! Let me know guys. Love you all!
Best I have tried in order:
Brand Name is of course the best but super costly and not worth it really when watson formula is identical to brand.
1. Teva Pharma- DAN 5513 (formerly watson then activas/Mayne Pharma, now officially Teva
2. Jubliant Cadista- OP 35
3. Qualitest now Solco- 2410 V
4. Wallace- WP 5901
5. SciGen Pharma- SG 109
6. Rising Pharma (Made in India) CL 022
7. Sun Pharma- 446
And there are many more these days. Please feel free to add some other generics of this medicine in if it is not listed. I dont have time to cover them all now. Now lets get that feedback on this topic guys, thanks! I will be on Jubliant cadists this month and they seem fine but they are not DAN 5513 tablets. Hopefully Teva has rolled out their new labels and dispensed info soon. God bless!
Geezer, yes there is a worldwide shortage. Hey God Bless France
I too can't find any DAN 5513 Watson brand Soma here in middle Florida. Starting in June 2019 all I can find are the OP 35 or SG 109 brands, and they are nowhere near the quality of the Watson brand I am use to. Pharmacies these days go for the cheapest brands they can get. They don't care about there customers anymore.! Thanks for all your research into the mystery that is DAN Somas.!
I did notice the SG 109 have a thick coating around the pill, so I use a pill cutter, and cut them up into pieces. This makes a big difference for me. I noticed they are not as strong when taken whole. The Dan brand do not have a thick coating. Maybe that makes a difference. I still want my DAN brand back.!!
I work in a pharmacy and we have also been running out of soma since we took in a lot of patients when their pharmacy ran out of them. The tech you spoke to probably isn’t lying to you. Some pharmacies can only order certain brands. It all depends on what they can order from the companies that deliver their meds. It also depends on what the pharmacist wants to do and if there is a huge price difference they won’t want to order it since it’s not profitable for them. And some pharmacists just don’t care for people that want certain brands on their controls cuz they think they are just abusing them.
Your lucky to get an RX. for them. Myself and everyone I know can't get a RX. anymore.
.
It seemed as though the shortage was over but now here we are in September and apparently they are having shortage issues with this one again. There are shortages on so many drugs right now it's unbelievable. The pharmacies assumed that the shortage was fixed because they have been able to order them again. Well this month it's on backorder again and it's hard to find a pharmacy that has them in stock. I have taken the DAN generic for years. However I haven't seen a DAN since the first shortage back in February or March. But from what i am gathering and found out there are several pharmaceutical companies that have discontinued soma and generics. Which in return pharmacies had to order from a different supplier which then snowballed into those pharmaceutical companies running out of the supply they had because they were receiving more orders. There are like 5 or 6 pharmaceutical companies that have discontinued making this medication indefinitely. So now once again pharmacies are backorder waiting for the suppliers that do still make them to make more. My pharmacy can't even place an order for them right now (same thing that happened several months ago). I loved the DANS as they worked the best, however, at this point I settling with whatever pharmacy has them at the moment and will just have to work with the generic that they have. Now isn't the time to be picky. If you legitimately need them I would definitely take whatever is available at the moment. I'm hoping that all this will be cleared up soon.
Re: Bamagurl185 (# 5)
I received my refill today, I know not all generics are created equal but I feel very lucky to get any thing.
I get a 28 day supply four tablets a day 112 units. My pills are stamped CL 022 I have no idea where they come from but they work and that's all I care.
Re: Speedy (# 6)
It should say on your bottle who the manufacturer is. However, your are absolutely right as I said before at this point if someone needs them we are not at a point to be picky about what brand they are we just need to feel lucky that we found a pharmacy with them. I like watson generic on anything I get even if it's just aspirin but there's not a lot of options right now for soma and generics (which again has to do with some pharmaceutical companies have made the choice to discontinue making them and then it snowballs into the one's that still make them don't have enough in their stock and trying to make more to catch up). At the end of the day like you I'm just glad i found a pharmacy that has them and can reorder them (a lot of pharmacies can't even place an order for them because it's backorder and I'm assuming they pharmaceutical companies have so many orders already). Again I'm just thankful that I was able to get mine this month and hope I can get them next month. I also hope they get all this fixed soon. They said it would be fixed be September and everything seemed fine the last few months then this month there were backorder issues again. And like you i get the SG 109 and they work and help me like they are supposed to.

Re: Eddy (# 8)
So Endo has exited Soma production, Teva is offline until the end of October, Vensun has stopped distribution, what is there that the FDA has not let us know?
I take expired meds a lot because I paid for them, and it’s so difficult to get prescriptions.
I stay away from expired antibiotics, but unless the pills are discolored or turning to dust I will take them at least 6 months past the expiration date.
The pharmacists don’t use the date on whatever bottle they take it from, they date it from the dispensed date.
The last 3 refills of my Soma have been different, but it wasn't until the refill this month that I really saw a huge difference in the quality. The pills have a CL 022 and are manufactured by INGENUS PHARMA. I have never had side effect with Soma before, but with this particular brand I feel like I'm on a narcotic medication. I'm having headaches and I've been very moody and most of all they are not helping with my chronic pelvic pain!!! I have called all of the pharmacies in my town to see if they carry or can order the Soma with DAN 5513 the one that works best and none of them carry that brand. They say it is no longer available. I am so very frustrated and all this has caused me terrible anxiety witch in turn agitates the nerve causing my pain to be worse!!! I am at a loss, and don't know what to do. Soma HAS ALWAYS BEEN THE ONLY MUSCLE RELAXER THAT HELPS WITH MY PAIN, UNTIL NOW!!! I could go on for days talking about this and all that I've been through just to find a Doctor to prescribe Soma to me, now I'm dealing with pharmacies!!!???? This is totally WRONG AND UNNECESSARY!!! I would love any advice I can get!!!
Re: Optimistic (# 10)
I just took out a new bottle of Alprazolam, its from 2016. It is safe to take most expired medicines for a few years past the expiration date if they are still working. I had some Aurobindo Rantidine go bad in my emergency overnight bag I leave in my Car, but all Aurobindo medicine seems suspect, and in my part of California it gets to 125 in the Summer with the car reaching 150 degrees
Re: Speedy (# 4)
Yep, when you read the pamphlets that tell you possible unwanted side effects..nausea,anal leakage, and the dreaded EUPHORIA, be prepared to never get that medication again. There will be no euphoria allowed!! God forbid any euphoria!! So look for it as a side effect & say your goodbyes.
I actually emailed Teva pharmaceuticals to verify that they were still making Dan 5133's and they said that they are, yet I can't find them anywhere and I like everybody else found that these are superior to any other somas. Currently I get the V 2140s from Walgreens who I used to get Dan 5133 from. Has anybody found a pharmacy that carries Teva?
Re: sandra (# 14)
Teva had been offline from 4/2019 to 5/2020 according to the FDA link above. "Duration of Shortage: 04/22/2019 - 05/19/2020"
Company Contact Information:

Re: EDDY (# 15)
My point exactly as they were off-line they're back online now. I called every pharmacy in my neighborhood and nobody carries Teva. Went to Walgreens today, got a prescription for my summer, got two different manufacturers. I got Method pharma which is the V looking checkmark thing with the 2410 on it, the other one was ScieGen which has I believe SG on it. Method works the best next to Dan by Teva and I just really would like to know who the heck carries Teva. I know I'm not alone, I've heard other people talk about how different fillers and different medications react differently. Well, I like the fillers in teva soma. help
Re: sandra (# 16)
If you ever wondered how Carisoprodol V 2410 can be sold by so many multiple companies you need to know that Method is just a repackager. Teva is most certainly up and running according to the latest information:
Reason for the Shortage
Cadista discontinued carisoprodol tablets.
Endo Pharmaceuticals discontinued carisoprodol tablets.
Mylan has Soma tablets available.
Rising discontinued carisoprodol tablets.
Sciegen has carisoprodol tablets available.
Teva did not provide a reason for the shortage.

Ty for all the info! My recent refill was 1/4 Watson Soma, amazing relief! The remainder was Somas RP35. Basically, a suger pill!! It takes 4 of those to equal the relief of one Watson brand. Can you plzzzz provide further info on good alternatives to the Watson brand? My pharmacy says it's hard to get?? I have a rare spinal disease that causes 24/7 intractable pain and spasms. Was thrilled to feel like my old self while taking Watson Soma! Plzzzz help!! Thank you.
Re: Rhonda Severyn (# 18)
I can’t find Watson (now activus) soma anymore. I take method the V2410 which aren’t as good as Watson but better than others I have found. Sorry.
I live in NC and took Somas for years. They would have many different brands but the ones with Dan on them helped by far more than the others. They were the generic called Carisiprodol. The best that they make.

You are right, it is totally wrong! You can thank our government for that. Since they stuck their noses in doctors business it's gotten ridiculous. All the dopers and abusers are to thank for it too. My doc at first was scared to death to prescribe me soma because she has to cover her ass too. So, she prescribed me 10 to start with and they don't do diddley! The DAN are the best. I am a retired LVN and had to go on disability in 2013. We just need to keep fighting I guess.
I agree with you totally! The Dan's are the best. I was on soma 350 (the dan) for years and suddenly when I had to find another doctor I was told no I can't prescribe those because they are so addictive and you won't find a doctor that will. She was right about that. I tried 4 different docs and was told the same thing. Anyway my new doc finally prescribed me a few and they have 3 ones on one side and what looks like a circle on the other. Can we not get them from an online doc? Please let me know. Have a great week!
Re: Kay (# 39)
I loved Watson also, the exact same formula is available thru Teva who purchased Watson at the time, I did a lot of research and have personally been in touch with Teva myself. I now go to whichever pharmacy can get the Teva brand or order it. It's got the same markings and everything, works exactly the same.
Re: EDDY (# 40)
Watson was purchased by Teva, still made exactly the same with the same markings on them. so they are still available, just harder to get I request them from the pharmacy they special order from their distributor.
Re: EDDY (# 12)
Request your pharmacy to obtain Alprazolam that is manufactured by SANDOZ Pharmaceutical Company. I have found its Alprazolam to be very effective with no side effects.
Re: Court77 (# 11)
The generic form of SOMA, carisoprodol DAN 5513 is currently being manufactured by the pharmaceutical company, TEVA. Apparently, there is a shortage and is back-ordered until August 29, 2023.
To find out if DAN 5513 is no longer back-ordered and is finally available, check with TEVA PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANY, 1 (888) 838-2872 on or around August 29th.
Re: Matty Matt (# 2)
I have tried practically every generic form of SOMA that is on the market; e.g., manufactured by pharmaceutical companies such as Medford, Oxford, Cadista, etc. I have experienced no relief from any other companies; it's like taking sugar pills.
Whenever I am taking carisoprodol from another company, I tend to fall down frequently since the muscles are as stiff as a board.
TEVA, the pharmaceutical company that is currently the manufacturer of DAN 5513, should be THE ONLY PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANY that makes the generic form of SOMA. Whatever formula that is being used to make DAN 5513 is the only generic form of SOMA that actually brings relief to the pain, stiffness and spasms in my muscles due to Fibromyalgia.

Ok, I'm opening my Rite Aid bag right now. I'd say this is exciting and a forum first, but here we go...
It's the Sci Gen which is ok. However I was expecting 270 and only have 90. My Doctor is very old
Re: EDDY (# 43)
Yes I switched mine from Rite Aid to Walgreens, which gets supply from AmerisourceBergen, who is currently out of stock. I've read different things about preferred brands, I guess it's personal preference, athough DAN seems most popular
Re: teresazu (# 42)
Oxford Vanadom SOMA is horrible? Qualitest is among the best out there. I just got back from my Doctor, he said he heard SOMA wasn't even available anymore. Right Aid has my new script, and they have had really bad SOMA these last couple of years
