I have seen this information too, but I am not sure which manufacturers it applies to. Here is the quote from the other dicussion thread about this:
http://www.prescriptiondrug-info.com/forums/view_drug_submission.asp?Drug=Why+has+Metoprolol+Succ+Er+50+my+been+recalled&Page=155665
"Sandoz is voluntarily extending the September 17, 2008, recall of Metoprolol Succinate Extended Release Tablets 25mg and 50mg, to include all strengths of distributed lots with expiration dates through August 2010. This voluntary action by Sandoz is due to deficiencies in documentation practices and in-process controls for this product. This voluntary recall is being conducted down to the retail level with the knowledge of the FDA. The affected lots were shipped approximately between November 2006 and October 2008. (Sandoz Press Release 11/3/08)" [1]
Hope this information helps.

Thanks, Roy for your info. I've done some more searching and have found that Par's generic has not been affected, but there is a fear that there won't be enough to go around if Ethex has pulled THEIR generics from pharmacy shelves, if there is now only one generic manufacturer. I'm going to check with my pharmacist. I still have about 1 month of medication left, but don't want to worry re: the next refill. Is it possible for this medication to do the 'opposite' and raise blood pressure, as some posts have stated?
That would be strange since like you said it's supposed to do the opposite of raise blood pressure. Off the top of my head I would think that there must be some other interacting drug, supplement, or condition in order to have such effects. It is really difficult to know for sure, and ideally needs to be approached on a case-by-case basis by a physician. Have you known anyone to experience these effects?
For the past year or so, i have had chest pains and heart pap's i ended up at the Dr's office for a stress test. After the recall, the new Metotoprolol , i haven't had any trouble yet, no pains , or anything. It was affecting me bad, and at the time i didn't know what was causing this. I take it for pap's, not for high blood pressure. Has it affected anyone else?
I have been taking metropol for about 5 mos. and I have gained 18 lbs.Has anyone else had this problem?
Hi Sally - although rare it is reported that weight gain could occur when taking Metoprolol. In this case it is highly recommended to notify your doctor of this ASAP, as weight gain is listed under precautions of the medication.
"Check with your doctor right away if you are having chest pain or discomfort; dilated neck veins; extreme fatigue; irregular breathing; an irregular heartbeat; shortness of breath; swelling of the face, fingers, feet, or lower legs; weight gain; or wheezing."

I was given the Par brand at end of Feb 2011. I have experienced all the same symptoms. My doctor told me I had varicose veins, Diabetic Neuropathy, Gout, Plantar Fascitis. Numb/Hot/Cold hands/feet. Seeing Bugs that weren't there. Bad dreams. Ice cold limbs while sleeping as if dead. I think he caused irreversible damage because he did not listen to me. Seeing new doctor next week. My legs used to be white and never had a problem. Now all these broken veins and nerve damage. My grandmother and aunt both lost limbs to diabetes-I have been forever viligante in checking my legs and feet everyday. Never had a problem or lose of sensation. My blood sugar has always been well controlled. Take medicines faithfully-very mild diabetic. My A1c spiked to 6.8 from lows of 6.2 right after starting this medicine. I am trying to find someone who will believe me. I wound up in emergency room 2 days ago with uncontrollable urination after receiving new mail order supply. (This started right after taking new script from AstraZeneca-just a coincidence????) I am informing the FDA to investigate. But would like someone to be held accountable as I know my own body and this is not something I caused. The doctors in emergency were practically dismissive as was my primary care physician. Please e-mail me with any info or where to turn.
What country is Metoprolo ER Suc MFR. by PAR made
I was taking PAR and have experienced all the same symptoms since Feb 2011. I saved some pills for testing by the FDA, but someone told me not to send them as I would have no proof. I was switched to generic Coreg and pain has subsided, but I am left with broken vessels in legs, discolored legs, some residual burning in hands and feet. I never had a problem until this. Doctors think I am crazy, emergency room did not believe me. I feel like I am in a bad conspiracy movie and have no where to turn. Called several attorneys and they never got back to me. Somebody help me and contact me!!!
My wife has experienced similar problems with Metoprolol xr. She wants to find a different BP medicine but knows she can't stop taking Meto all of a sudden. What is a good safe replacement drug for Meto.
Please help
I was given this medication for BP and was beset with insomnia, anxiety, short tempered and urinating all night. I took it for less than a week and felt really unbalanced in my head and found it difficult to rest at all. I stopped taking this medication before I was in too deep.
I started Toprol 50 mg about 5 years ago. Went to a cardiologist who gave me a stress test and said my bp at its highest during the stress test was 140/90, so I was put on toprol. A couple of years after I started toprol my blood glocuse started to go up and it was 137 on blood fasting. I have tried to get off of toprol but yesterday when I did not take a pill my pulse was almost 140 and my blood pressure 140/82. I did not realize that I would probably never be able to get off this medication. If I had know this, I would have thought twice about starting it! so very sad.
BLUE CROSS actually gave me a years worth for free after having to pay a premium for the Toprol XL when the shortage hit. Could have been a big problem!
I did not hear about a recall, are they recalling the generic or the brand name. I only take Toprol xl 50 mg - brand name.
Since hearing about contaminents, especially most recently, in foodstuffs manufactured in THIRD WORLD COUNTRIES, I am determined to accept drugs manufactured only in other than third world countries.....I would like a manufacturer of METOPROLOL Xl 50 mg source.........
