Prolia Side Effects (Page 89) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.
Kathy, it's Pood again. Yes, Prolia is supposed to be injected just under the skin called 'subcutaneously'. It' is NOT supposed to go directly into an arm, thigh or tummy. I would have done it myself as I've done subcutaneous on myself before but Prolia comes in kind of a screwed up injection thing with very specific instructions so I thought (WRONG) that I should have my Dr. do it. If yours went straight into your arm like mine did, that means you are in BIG trouble like I was. I actually watched her inject it and she jabbed that needle all the way into the muscle in my right arm up toward the shoulder area -- about an inch below. That seems to cause us horrid muscular pain. Now why your mouth hurts like burned I cannot say. That's a new one. It's beginning to sound to me like the people at Amgen are telling all of us different things. You get told something totally different from the times I've talked with them. I do know for sure they are doing a 10 year clinical study of Prolia and I really believe we are in that 10 year clinical study without knowing it. This was told to me by a guy named Mike that works the Prolia part for Amgen. Previously when I had called I got women (nurses). Has your MD any clues about your mouth. That is not listed as a side effect so it has to be new too. Do ice cubes help it feel any better? I kind of thought I had Prolia all figured out until you showed up and that puts me back at the drawing board. We know it's Prolia but from what in Prolia is making your body do that. If you can find an excellent hypnotherapist, ask if they can take you back before you had your Prolia injection and leave you at that point in time. It's kind of tricky as people will say well you had xyz and you will be denying all of it. You have had a pain shot and got some relief. How about real pain medication that is taken by mouth by you every 4-6 hours as needed. You have to be careful of some of them as they contain a lot of Tylenol which is very unhealthy but there are others that contain zero Tylenol and work wonders so there is no danger to your liver. Prolia really is a living nightmare.
Does anyone know drinking almond milk can replaces calcium tablet? 4 cups x 250 ml per day. Taken too much calcium tables will hurt our heart.
Hi Poodie, do you know?
Also, should we be aware of our high blood pressure once you quit the injection. This Paolia is really a dangerous drug and should not be used for most patients.
Also, be aware of our high blood pressure once we quit the injection. I think it keeps our blood pressure low when you taking it. What should we do if high blood pressure shows as I don't need to take medical for that before.
Another question - what do they mean when they talk about the half life of Prolia? I had talked to a pharmacist at Amgen and I didn't quite understand the half life part. Can you explain in English instead of medical speak?
Hi Kathy, thank you for your info about saunas that may be able to get rid of some toxins from our body. I will try it as we have a sauna room installed in our townhouse complex. I hope by sweating, the toxin things will be coming out thought our skin.
Hi Poodle, thank you very much for all your info and advices about Creator etc. Much appreciated!
I am from Toronto. Canada. I am very worry about my high blood pressure and high cholesterol level now and after. Feeling quite sad and depressed sometimes!
I am going to have stomach scan in the hospital next week. I am afraid I may have infection after this since the Prolia is in my body on 12 days. Should I go ahead? Does anyone have experience? I need advice. Sorry
Half lives is also how we do carbon dating to know for about sure how old something is. It turns to carbon and then a half life is 5,426 years, and then another half life is another 5426 years ad nauseum. Then, Bingo! No more change is noted so we know exactly how old something is. I don't know if Amgen used blood as a half life or if they used actual tissue as a half life and I seriously doubt they will tell us as it's probably a patented 'secret'. If they used blood, then it gets to a static level where product (drug) is functioning as it should and will eventually decrease over time. I seriously doubt our Doctors have no clue as to what Amgen has been doing. Just told it's a great product. Builds up bones so no more fractures for the patients. They admit to very serious side effects, but your patients won't get them. They are really quite rare. RARE INDEED!! What do they NOT admit about side effects as this is still a new drug is a very good question. There are now 2 of us with autoimmune diseases caused by Prolia. Thankfully, I got the lesser one. I was sharing all the immune tampering and causing infections with my bone surgeon and his big blue eyes just got bigger and bigger and bigger. Anyway, surgery appointment set tentatively Praise the Lord go get rid of this hip and get a nice new one. Pood
Canadian~ Please keep me informed about the sauna. Let me know if it helps. I have to join a gym in order to use a sauna. It was recommended by the lady at the health supplement store. Saunas are supposed to lower your blood pressure according to the pharmacist at my insurance company. When I get this god awful Prolia out of my system I am going to go completely natural for medicines. I am on something for blood pressure and cholesterol. I also take Prevacid for acid reflux. According to the lady at the health store that will be the hardest one to get off of. I have been on that for years. I will probably have to work with my doctor to get off of that slowly. She said probiotics will control acid reflux. I recommend all of us get more information from a health store. Doctors know little to nothing about supplements/minerals. They go directly to the drugs and a lot of issues can be controlled without drugs and the drugs just cause more side effects which means more drugs to control them. I've seen where a lot of people have doubled their calcium and vitamin D. It is best to follow the directions on the labels. Too much calcium and calcify in your system and cause other issues. I know we are all trying whatever it takes to get rid of this Prolia but do it safely!
has anyone had insomnia from their prolia inj. I never had insomnia until less than a week after receiving my first inj. That was only 7 wks. ago and I have a LONG TIME TO GO TO HOPEFULLY GET IT OUT OF MY SYSTEM.
Kathy, I looked at the web that sauna is not suitable for those people with high blood pressure, skin problem or heart disease. My blood pressure is pretty much at high level always so I am a bit hesitated to try the sauna. Quite disappointed!
Canadian~ Sorry to hear that. Was hoping that it would help someone. I'm going to try it after the 3 month mark. Amgen said that you shouldn't have any NEW side effects after that. My jaw is so painful that I don't think I can handle any more pain and I'm not sure if the toxins coming out of our system will cause more pain or not. I will let you know after I try it.
Hi again~My mother got Thrush and her Dr. gave her some kind of medication for it. I didn't ask. I'll ask my brother as he picked up all of her meds. I know she was really irritated at both of us and said: "Doesn't anyone care that I have thrush.". I had to reply: Well, sorry, Mama, I have no idea what you are even talking about so she told me. I'll ask if he remembers what she got for it. Pood
Canadian - specifically for what reason are you going to have your stomach scanned? What is the problem you are having with it. I seem to have missed that. Most of us can tell you a lot more than your Dr. can as we are all living with Prolia and sharing information. Is it vomiting? Do you also have diarrhea? Prolia is known to cause autoimmune diseases so I would highly suggest a more advanced blood test than just a CBC. You need to get immunoglobbins tested. From that, the MD has more of a good reason of what your body is doing x, y or z. Be well~Pood
I'm sorry but I am reading everyones post on sleeping. I too have insomnia and I take a sleep aid, tomazapam. I have not had a Prolia shot in 21 months, so if I am reading what everone is saying correctly this "Prolia" is out of my system. The reason "I", "We" are still taking sleeping meds is because we have taken them so long, our bodies have become accustome to them. At this stage I don't think my Prolia shot and my insomnia have anything to do with each other. We can blame a lot on Prolia, but the facts are the facts.
Poodle~ I did call the doctor's office yesterday and got Nystatin. It does help. Thrush is very painful. It's small white dots all over in your mouth and throat and your tongue just burns. I need to take it 4 times a day and swish in my mouth and swallow it. I've only taken it 3 times and it does seem to be helping the pain.
Victoria~ You say you've been off Prolia for 21 months. Other than sleeplessness do you have any of the other issues left? I've had a horrible time with my jaw, ears, teeth. The dentist finds nothing wrong. I am currently taking 20mg of steroids a day to control the pain and it keeps it bearable but that's it. It's always there. My teeth are the worst. I had a bone scan and my jaw showed a 'hot spot' which means there is inflammation. I see my doctor next Wednesday to see what else can be done.
As far as sleeplessness - I think this is caused by the Prolia and in my case adding steroids. Both cause sleeplessness. I was only sleeping 2-3 hours a night before. I don't know if there is anything that isn't addictive when you are talking sleep medicine. When the Prolia is out of our system, that's when we will need to get off of them. In the meantime we are just trying to make it through this. Everyone should ask their doctor what would work best for them and their medical issues. I personally have had good luck with the Alprazolam and it's very inexpensive. Once it's not needed, I will ask how I go about getting off of it. For now, I just need to get some sleep.
all sleeping pills are addictive, but one has to get some sleep. if not, one will go crazy with no sleep. yes Xanax too is addictive. it is really a viscous cycle - originally caused by the extremely sudden onset of insomnia right after my prolia inj. I used to sleep thru the night with no problems 11pm to 7 or 8 am in the mornings. now I am lucky to get 4-6 with interruption and on temazepam and Xanax as well. there is no light at the end of the tunnel either way. my back problems (after two thoracic kyphos in 5 wks.) has gotten worse, when in the past they got better. All I do not is ache no matter how I sit, walk or do my pt exercises.
Victoria~
I just looked up tomazapam. It is in the same family as Alprazolam. Tomazapam is the generic for Restoril which is also a benzodiazepine which is for anti-anxiety medicine. I think we are taking pretty much the same thing. Have you tried to get off of it? What have you done? Just want to know what else I have to look forward to.
I have posted a message yesterday. It get lost?
I am getting the thrush in my mouth now. Numbness around my fingers is getting more serious. Could these are one of the side effects. Look like the bad side effects are getting near and near. I don't know, not strong enough and no energy to fight with it as I have lost hope and confidence.
