Updated

I would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.

Jan~the gluten intolerance is in your and my DNA. There is something about Prolia that brings it out. I was in remission for maybe 5 months and now it seems to be like it is staying with me. My Dr. wondered why and I told her it could be the possibility of worrying about my upcoming total knee replacement or otherwise I don't know. I never knew I had Celiac Disease until that **** Prolia injection. I assume your IgA was done to confirm it. I remember the day my doc called me and she said 3 times your IgA is only 64 like she herself could not quite believe it. She said there is a more definitive test than that but I would have to eat some gluten so I passed. I cannot even smell gluten. There is a super replacement for it one can order. It's called Cup4Cup and I know you have that site too because yours ends in ca I believe. It does everything perfectly just like wheat flour does except one cannot make bread with it. I've used it for angel food cakes and other baked goods and it is totally awesome. Be well~

Jan~to have a class-action suit against Amgen all the people involved have to have the exact same problem(s). Now everyone could sign up because it totally messes up our immune system. Others could sign up for the teeth issues but I truthfully believe those will be better fought against Amgen individually like I told one lady to do. Implants are around $5,000 each so we are looking at some pretty big money here quickly. Call attorneys in your area and ask them if they would be willing to do it on a 60/40 basis. When I did mine I had to call almost every attorney in town and finally BINGO. I got a good one and we won. Everyone has to keep in mind the Statutes of Limitation of where you live. In the US every State is different and in Canada it could be every Provence is different. It has to be xx number of days of when you were first diagnosed with that specific problem caused by Prolia. Many States in the US have their State Statutes on-line so you can find them. Canada - I don't know about but I believe Jan is going to find out for all of you. Make sure you have a copy of every bill from every doctor, dentist and hospital. You are not getting pain and suffering. You are simply getting your bills you paid reimbursed to you by Amgen and they will have an attorney in that room too so make sure you have all your p's and q's together. Make eye contact with the Mediator and smile. Be extremely courteous to this person because s/he can make or break your case. Please refrain from hateful looks at Amgen's attorney. Answer in as few as words as possible but give the correct answer IF you remember it from Amgen's attorney. You are paying your attorney to talk for you. Those are the guidelines so go at them ladies. Pood

I too had a problem that is believed to be caused by Prolia. I had 2 dental implants. A few years ago, all of a sudden my jaw popped loud and hurt like crazy. A few days later, I went to my GYN apt to get my 3rd Prolia injection. At the end of my visit, my doctor asked if anything new going on with me. I told him "nothing pertaining to his field", and then about my jaw. He immediately showed alarm and said I could not have the Prolia injection, that we had to stop it until I saw a oral surgeon and got the issue taken care of and clearance. Got in on emergency with an oral surgeon. Doctor and nurses were also alarmed that Prolia was on my med list! Long story short, the x-rays showed my jawbone had crushed around my right implant, and I had developed a real bad infection due to it. He had to perform surgery to remove my implant, scrape all the crushed jawbone particle out and remove as much infection as he could. The Xylocaine wouldn't numb because the infection was so bad. He used A LOT, he said the maximum allowed. The surgery took a while and was extremely painful! The cost for the dental implants are so expensive, the partial made to fit with the implants was crazy expensive, and the bill for this emergency surgery out of pocket was $1675, after he gave me a "compassion" discount fee. Believe it or not, for what all he had to do, my husband and I felt he was fair on his charge too. I can't afford to have my lower partial replaced, but they don't fit secure at all and are uncomfortable. The oral surgeon told me that more than likely I'm going to lose the other implant also.
After all this happened to me, I searched Prolia to see if it showed there is a connection, and discovered there is. I kept watching for a class action lawsuit to try to recover my expenses back so I can get another partial made, but none. I'm very surprised there still isn't one. now I wish I had started one, since I may now be past the deadline.

Everyone needs to flood the FDA website (fda.gov/Safety/MedWatch) to fill in the form with your symptoms. The is the only way to get this horrible drug off the market.

Jeanne, as to filling in a form about side effects, I suppose this only pertains to American citizens? I am Canadian and am also dealing with many side effects. I lost a tooth and nearly lost a front tooth due to infection. I'm still seeing a specialist re mouth issues. Unbelieveable dry mouth to the point that I can only eat if I swallow food with water. Also white blood count and platelets are high and so far they can't figure out why after some tests. We're away on holidays and hoping it's just was stress due to my many issues with Prolia.

Jan~I personally believe ALL prescription drugs should be removed from advertising. All the new ones out for diabetes or whatever else one may have leads to very, very serious side effects or death. Maybe all of us in the US should write to the FCC to get all that junk off of TV. Prolix's is an advertisement for it's drug. Plain and simple. Just to think how much one commercial costs to have it on every TV in the nation?? We kind of figured that one out during the last election we recently had. If people don't see it I think they would be less inclined to use the drug but mine was over my better judgment and my Dr. promised me that she had not had a problem with it until I came along. She said: "It's the safest of all the biologics I prescribe." She now spends the remainder of her life making it up to me after she apologized for pushing me into it -- her words, not mine. Pood

Jeanne~truthfully, the FDA was very hesitant about approving Prolia. It took a lot of discussion and medical testimony before they finally gave in. We have complained so much to them that there is a black box warning on it now but, do our Docs look at the boxes for FDA updates??? Seems to be the HUGE question here. Be well~Pood

Judy~Ask your pharmacist which governing body in Canada or your specific Provence approves what drugs are allowed to be used in Canada. I'm sure you have your own version of our FDA and a pharmacist should know what its name is and how to contact it and if the pharmacist fails, call your Dr. and ask. Canada is a controlled country just like the US is. It's not like Mexico where one just goes to the drug store and buys at will over the counter.

Pood, I did contact the Canadian government health agency with my complaints and did get a reply confirming their receipt of it. They all have assigned a case # which I am to refer to with any more health issues regarding Prolia. I have even tried to contact a health reporter at one of Toronto TV networks who does investigative work on health issues etc. Haven't ever heard back. I may now try contacting the journalists at the newspapers who write about medical issues. There doesn't seem to be, that I know of, any med chats in Canada as there are in the US. When I called Amgen (twice) all they said to me was they had had very few calls regarding problems with Prolia! Even the doctor who prescribed it said she had never had any patients with issues and that mine were all caused by long term stress dealing with my husbands stroke. Which, by the way was quite mild. He is still very active and it was just some aphasia and memory issues he's had difficulty with! This doctor, I know, is in big with big pharma and has done drug studies for them. She is an ob/gyn at a large Toronto hospital which also depends on big donations. I am due to see her in June and am seriously thinking of cancelling and having all my records sent to my GP. However I also would like to confront her, once again, with some of my issues and how I have had to deal with them with other doctors and dentists!

Anne, that was quite some time ago and I 'think' I found it on the FDA's site on Prolia. Probably fda.gov. If not there, I'll look thru my usual sources of drug info. In my line of work I have to know all about biology and drugs or I cannot work. Even now retired I have a keen interest in Prolia since it about took me out. Will let you know. Hugs~

So sorry about your dental issues and weight gain. I had my prolia shot January 2016 and it is now one year and 2 months post prolia shot day. I had rapid weight gain of 30 + pounds and muscle weakness. Water retention was part of my issues. I went up 3 dress sizes and a shoe size and a half! I know because I had to keep rebuying the same dress for my daughter's wedding...it was CRAZY. I am now doing dental work. I am so tired exhausted frustrated and more- dealing with side effects and after effects of prolia. With respect to the dental and prolia. I now have loose teeth, failing teeth with posts and gum disease- which I never had before. I have excellent dental hygiene. I have info that prolia causes gum disease. I keep thinking "what next?".

Correction, I posted the incorrect article date: NY Times Article - "Fearing Drug's Rare Side Effects, Millions Take Their Chances with Osteoporosis" By Gina Kolata June 1, 2016. Many are suffering.

Also read NPR Health "How a Bone Disease Grew to fit the Prescription", Dec. 21, 2009 Alix Spiegel. As POD has said, "Have at it ladies".

Had my first Prolia shot on March 2,2017. After 2 weeks started getting a rash. My family doctor gave me a medrol pak because we weren't sure what was causing it. The rash now has turned into hives. So did some research and with all of the people reporting hives, I'm sure it's the Prolia. The itching is horrible. Calling my doctor again on Mon. Hope it doesn't last the whole 6 mos. Don't think I will get another Prolia shot.

Deb, I hope as well it doesn't last the entire 6 months. I received my 4th injection and a week later the rash started, April 10th will be my 3 month marker, but I am telling you every 16 days when the half life is reached I start having a resurgence of the rash and itching although not as severe as the first 32 days. Still plagued with the dry skin mostly on my arms at this time. I only took the prednisone once and have been using benadryl at night and singulair in am, along with hemp oil (for the anti-inflammatory effect), and grape seed oil as it is very gentle to the skin. I have a hard time tolerating anything touching my skin, as it makes the itching worse and even sharp shooting pains while it is in contact with my skin. Good luck, there seems to be many of us on this journey.

Prolia is not a journey, IT'S A NIGHTMARE!!!!! God forgive the doctors for valuing the $'s they get paid from Amgen, more than they value patient's health & well being.

Thanks for the reply Elaine.
The hives have cal.ed down some along with the itching. The doctor at the medcheck I went to on Sun. recommended an itching lotion called Sarna. It worked much better than the cortisone cream and the benadryl cream for me anyway. Hopefully these hives will go away but have a feeling after 5 days when the prednisone is gone, that they will occur. My doctor said she doesn't want me to take another injection in 6 mos. Which I wasn't going to anyway. I hope your rash goes away and you continue to improve. It would be nice to take medication for an ailment and not have so many side affects. I'm very fortunate that I don't have to take much.

Anne~I checked the FDA's website as I'm sure that's where I read it. Now, one whole page on Prolia has been deleted by the FDA. Could that have been at Amgen's request???? Hugs~Pood
