Prolia Side Effects (Page 114)
UpdatedI would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.

I think we should have a separate class action suit against Amgen for it causing us to lose the roots of our teeth and have to have implants put in which are extremely expensive. I only had two because Prolia ran into a titanium implant and that stopped it from continuing on. Two are very expensive and I am very angry about this as I know you are too. I know there are more than just the two of us. Your thoughts?
Re: Marion (# 2254)
Xarelto and Prolia have absolutely nothing to do with each other. Xarelto is used to prevent DVT's and PE's and you should not be on it if you have not had one recently or have a heart condition that requires 'thin' blood. Prolia, on the other hand is loaded with really bad side effects. Xarelto has very few side effects unless one has a spinal for surgery. So, what all happened to you in the list of bad side effects. You are now on a site of believers because we have all had at least one of them and usually many at a time. We are here to help you with your Dr. It's difficult to believe that one could be that stubborn with what we know about Prolia. Even the FDA has changed it's box. You should have told your Dr. to have looked at it. There are a few alternatives to Prolia that are not beyond horrid but they are very small in number. Be well~
Re: JenjiOz (# 2255)
I understand about lethargy, weakness. For me it came in cycles. The last one lasted 6 months.
Today is one year since my last shot. I seem to be getting stronger and resuming activities
I don't know if I will ever fully recover, only time will tell.
Re: Marion (# 2254)
Here I can see more. Pain in the thigh bone should be checked immediately by X-ray or MRI. Prolia causes the femur (thigh bone) to break in two for no apparent reason. Also jaw pain - could possibly be if you got any injection of Prolia in your arm. There is a muscle that leads on up to the jaw area. It lasted about 6 years and is finally gone now. At first I thought I was getting ONJ so had my dentist look at it and he said all is fine. However, on the other side Prolia did eat up the roots to two large molars in the back and I felt no pain with that. If you are on blood thinner then you cannot have Evista which is a good one but not all of us can have it and the other is one made by Merck. You have to sit straight up for approximately two hours after taking the pill every day. They have been sued so many times and have millions stashed in a fund for suits against them. Did your Dr. try any of the bis's on you like Reclast or Boniva. They both come with problems and don't work for all but have less bad side effects than Prolia. Our Doctors need to realize that Prolia is the 'last ditch effort' when ALL of the other drugs have FAILED. It seems now they want to bring out Prolia first which was never Amgen's intention nor that of the FDA. Reclast just gave me a severe headache and some nausea for a year and I was not worth a darn and it did zero for my bones. At least I didn't suffer for longer than a year and I could have done it faster with Boniva because it only lasts 6 months, not a full year.
Re: Poodle (# 2262)
I have changed GPs having recently moved house. This new one has stated, as did the last GP that if I go off Prolia then I have a high risk of a fractured hip. How can that risk line up with the possible side effect of Prolia causing a fractured thigh bone. This makes no sense to me at all. What are the thoughts of others?
Re: Poodle (# 2261)
The drug company told me that they have no dental complaints from Prolia and I know that is not true. I would love to sue them and get this poison off of the market but they have big money and I don’t know of any attorney that would take them on.
Re: Poodle (# 2262)
Thank you for your thoughts. Yes I do know that they are not related meds but I know that both can cause similar side effects and as I was on both I don't know which are responsible. My specialist has taken me off Xarelto and put me on aspirin. That was 3 weeks ago and now I have another DVT so I now have to go back onto Xarelto with an even higher dose. We just can't win it seems.
Re: Marion (# 2265)
I agree that the risk of dangerous side effects
out weighs the risk of bone fracture.
I don't care what my DEXA shows, I will NEVER
take another Osteo drug.
Several years ago, my mother took Fosamax
and had severe side effects so she stopped.
She is now an active nearly 90 year old. My grandmother never had a fracture, never took a drug and was active until 6 months before she died at 95. The same goes for all my previous generations. Interesting because we Scandinavians have a high rate if Osteo. Although, Prolia is now being pushed over there. No,. I will take my chances.
Re: JenjiOz (# 2249)
I just reread your post. I could be mine. In spite of being on an anti-inflammatory diet, my weight kept creeping up. My body was clearly inflamed. Finally, it was my Derm. who listened. He ordered blood work which showed elevate CRP, proof of inflammation. I reviewed natural remedies and found recommendations for Adrenal Fatigue. I am making progress in reducing my symptoms, and have lost 10 pounds. My digestion is better, and less itching and fatigue. My joints are, I think permanently enlarged, but less swollen and painful. Since the diet was restrictive, I returned to Weight Watchers. At this point, whatever will be will be. No more meds, not even for the Cholesterol that also became elevated.
Re: JenjiOz (# 2249)
I should add, my side effects also began 3 months after my first shot; and then stupidly took another shot. You are not alone. Why I kick myself is that I am well acquainted with Dr. Fishman and his Yoga study. I think if I still lived in New York I would have gone straight to him, but I didn't.
Re: Judy (# 2248)
I am interested in finding HyloGel. It is listed on Amazon, but out of stock. I went to the Canada Drugs website, but could not find it.
Where did you obtain yours? I use Autologous eye drops, but since they require refrigeration I cannot carry them around with me and this makes a problem for travel. The products over the counter do nothing.
Re: Marion (# 2267)
I am so very sorry you got another DVT. I 'think' I read somewhere that we have something to dissolve them like the shot for PE's. You may want to look around and see what you can find. Mine were caused from being on 10-20mg of Pred per day for a solid year and no tapering off. My blood went nutzzzzz. DVT's and double saddled PE's. The shot got rid of the PE's but was VERY expensive. Can they find out what specifically is making your blood thick? Do you think it could be related to Prolia? Also Radiologists can go into the veins and remove old clots if they have not hardened so you don't get the ugly varicose veins on your legs. A very frightful world dealing with those two very deadly things. I am very happy tho that I did not allow my Dr. to put in mesh to stop them from travelling up because that is now a legal suit. Also very lucky when it went thru my heart it just slipped thru and caused no damage at all. I was on Warfarin for a few years to make sure nothing returned. It has problems of it's own in that one cannot eat healthy greens. Xarelto is a better choice but I don't remember Warfarin having any bad side effects except for constant blood monitoring. It's very easy to get too thin blood with it. Hope and pray you can get some help and relief from this. Be well~

Did you stop your prolia? I have had a total of 3 injections and am miserable with hot flashes and bloating.
Re: Marilyn (# 2273)
Yes- I stopped. I will not get another injection. Others seem to react after several or more shots. I did the very first time.
Re: Linda (# 2266)
This drug should not be on the market. Every has gone wrong and dental.
Re: Sal (# 2270)
Hi Sal. Have you ever considered Mat Pilates as an alternative to Yoga? A lot depends on the trainer but I sure was at my peak when I did it. Maybe I can find day classes now. It was developed as a healing method for ballerinas. Be well~
Re: Linda (# 2266)
I am in the same boat. I had to get all my teeth cut out and now have to get dentures. I know all these doctors and the drug companies lie to avoid litigation and I think that is pitiful because someone could potentially die from this poison they call Prolia!
Re: Poodle (# 2260)
Hi Poodle! Thanks. No, no colour, just occasional cloudiness. I'm a bit hazy (no pun intended) about the details. All these various symptoms come and go, sometimes giving a false sense of security.
As usual, my skin issues have bounced back bigly ??, and in the last day or so I have varicose veins at the back of my left calf. The main problem with my eyes at present is itching eyelids. So many unwelcome surprises in a relatively short time.
I have had 3 rounds of Pamidronate infusions which have allowed me to get out of a wheelchair and able to walk again for short distances. They now wish me to change to the Prolia inj., but I have been reading about dreadful side effects so don't know what to do. Anyone tried both?
Poodle (# 2275) --
Hi and thanks for your response. Heaven help us if Prolia thickens blood as well as everything else that it seems to be responsible for. However my problem stems from Protein C deficiency. I have an appt with my haematologist this afternoon and hopefully he will get me on to something better than Xarelto. I will have to deal with the Prolia problem when this is sorted. My Xarelto side effects eg pins & needles with burning in my limbs which are really bad when in the prone position certainly are much worse with a larger dose due to the DVTs. None of my medical people will agree that Xarelto causes these side effects; not the haematologist, neurologist or several GPs
