Prolia Side Effects (Page 113)

Updated

I would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.

This is an old article from California. It did, however, tell the truth. I read it a few years ago when it first came out. Now does Prolia leave the human body? Answer: Yes, one injection is gone in 6 months. There is only a tiny molecule of it in you that cannot harm you any more than an aspirin that you took 20 years ago. They are both carbon based. Then we come to the side effects of Prolia. That's a totally different subject. Just because the Prolia is gone does not in the least mean that the side effects are gone. Some last years beyond a single Prolia injection and we also know that Prolia can cause death too. When our immune system is semi-turned off as in our T-cells and T-cell helpers are not actively going thru our bodies hunting down and killing every virus, cancer or bad bacteria we have in us it leaves us up to a wide range of infections, cancers and death. With just only one injection, the immune system should be back in full force and effect within the 6 month period. However, it cannot repair damage that was done to us while it was not working well. I've been off of Prolia for several years now. My immune system is back to perfect. What about the damage it did to my teeth and hair follicles? My eye? My gut? The immune system cannot fix that which Prolia killed or damaged. Not only does Prolia eat up the gums. It starts on the roots of your teeth. Once the hair follicles on your hair are dead they are dead. It's too late for our immune systems to help us. The only help for those that are still suffering is to go to an Immunologist and get your immune system reset ASAP. You will still have a long road to hoe but the quicker we can get our immune system back to normal, the faster we get well and the less chance of bad side effects doing permanent damage to us. Immunologists are the key to getting us reset as quickly as possible. Now, if I can find one where I live, I'm sure you can too. Start checking and keep calling. You may also notice that the majority of the new medicines we have in our world are biologics and have the very same side effects that ours does. To me, that is not encouraging news at all. Before any Dr. recommends anything, check it out very well for yourself before you say yes. We cannot be vigilant enough. To that end, I want to wish all of you to have a very wonderful holiday season and start feeling better. We have a new year coming and you need to be healthy. We have endured more than we should have. Be well~Pood

Thank you for the information. I will do so. Unfortunately, one of mine is useless, and the other one is retiring. I will, however, being to petition others.

Thank you for your information. Yesterday, I had this conversation with my Physiatrist, a Dr. who prescribes Yoga rather than drugs for Osteoporosis. He pretty much said the same thing, in fact, he feels Biophos. drugs are worse in that regard. However those huge Osteophyte s on my joints are never going to leave my body, as well as the other negative effects.

Re: Kathy (# 2238) Expand Referenced Message

I was advised by my endocrinologist to continue with Prolia into a 3rd year. That was begun in March 2017 and the second injection in September 2017. Since then, my spine is on fire with pain and no aspirin or Opiod has helped with the pain and I'd like to do a class action lawsuit and don't know where to start..

Any optholomogic problems? Yes. Prolia gave me a cataract which is easy surgery now. No big deal; however, I did develop something post Prolia which only about 1% of the population gets. When we get older, the liquid in our eyes starts to leave. It a normal thing to happen. However, mine got stuck on my macula. We have an amazing retina surgeon here that returned from a very successful career in Colorado. He said it was the worst he had seen and was very difficult to get off. It's also developing in the other eye but I'm not ready for that surgery again so soon. I had it in June 2017 and get released this coming January 18. This could very well have been caused by Prolia since it is so rare. I'm the youngest in my whole family and no one has had it except me and no one has had Prolia except me. Hmmmm. Could 2 plus 2 equal 4? Dry eyes. You bet. I use GenTeal severe nighttime ointment. I know I can see nothing with my eyes full of grease but it works. In the daytime I just use GenTeal liquid tears. Both were recommended by the Dr. that took my cataract off and put in a new lens. The surgeon that worked on my macula told me to make sure I continue with these same two products for my eyes. This may add more weight to your claim. I am writing a letter to my Senator about Prolia. He used to be my Dr. so I'm sure he will understand. Be well~

Re: Poodle (# 2247) Expand Referenced Message

Pood, I was most interested in your dry eye problem. I, too, have had severe dry eyes since I started the Prolia. I never associated it with Prolia as it really didn't start until after my 2nd injection. It was further aggravated after I had laser surgery for glaucoma. Eventually I was prescribed Restasis drops twice daily as well as refresh ointment at bedtime. I also use Hylo gel drops during the day. I don't think they're available in the US as I couldn't get them when in Florida. They are made in Germany but sold in Canada. Expensive but they are the only ones that give me any relief. The Restasis is very pricey, a prescriptive drop but after so many months of use they have helped. Now whether this was all brought on by Prolia or the laser treatment, I don't know. I still am dealing with dry mouth at night which definitely was a side effect of Prolia. I'll be interested to hear more about your own outcome with treatment for this most painful eye condition.

I know all this has been said before, but I am FURIOUS! Last night was one of many sleepless nights, due to itching and stinging from the Prolia 'rash'. Today I am so exhausted and itchy that my concentration is shot to pieces, as has been usual for the past six months. Then there is the ongoing lethargy, which has turned me into an apathetic couch potato - this was NOT helpful over the holidays with lots of guests staying with me.

I am so annoyed with myself for taking so long to work out the cause. I have blamed everything else I could think of before I finally thought to look up Prolia's side effects. My doctor prescribed scabies treatment, I blamed sand flies, Vitamin B tablets,
changed moisturisers and soap, etc. etc.

My first Prolia shot was in March 2017 but it was another 3 months before my skin started to react badly. I stupidly had a second shot in September, and now it has escalated. I am experiencing photosensitivity, my skin looks horrible, and my clothes irritate my skin further. I have red pin-point spots which morph into purplish bruise-type spots under the skin before turning into brown splotches which don't go away. My entire body has been affected at different times, including places which I could not scratch except in private. I have drawn blood by scratching savagely in my sleep. My scalp was particularly bad, less so now, but the crusty sores remain. Now I have raised stinging pimples. The skin on my face feels really delicate and itchy, even though there is not much visible sign of the itchiest spots on my forehead and eyelids. My nose and ears itch inside and out. My nose is swollen. It is summer here but I am hiding my arms, chest and legs from sight, as well as from the sun.

I experienced my first ever skin reaction to a local anaesthetic injection when I have my very first Basal Cell Carcinoma removed a few months ago. I understand BCCs can be connected to Prolia use.

My mouth is often dry, my shins hurt frequently, there is always a headache in the background which frequently becomes more acute. Sometimes I feel very hot. I had an inexplicable cough for a couple of months, and my jaw was 'clicky' for several weeks. My bowel habits have changed, with occasional diarrhoea. It seems I have had a wide-ranging sample of the likely side-effects, but the skin irritations and lethargy have been by far the worst and most enduring. Fortunately, not every day is equally bad - there seems to be a pattern of a few days of intense itching/stinging, followed by a couple of days which are more bearable.

A visit to a dermatologist was a dreadful waste of money. "It's allergic". No s***, Sherlock? I have been referred to an allergist but the consultation and tests will be very expensive. I am certain now that Prolia is the source of all these issues.

Never again! Btw, I am 68, going on 98, and I used to have very good skin for my age.

Re: JenjiOz (# 2249) Expand Referenced Message

I should also mention that there have been a few red herrings along the way which delayed my self-diagnosis of side-effects of Prolia. So many blood tests ordered by my doctor showed strange anomalies- one was elevated iron levels, leading to the possibility of haemochromatosis. It turned out my calcium tablets contained iron. Always read the fine print! And the sudden upsurge in my cholesterol levels. At least I know what to attribute that to! My lovely doctor is pretty convinced now that I have shown her some of the documentation of Prolia's side-effects and has contacted my endocrinologist. I really need to explore other osteoporosis treatment options before I see him in early March 2018 - does anyone have information about pros and cons of other effective medications? I really have no reason to question Prolia's effectiveness. Hey, I can weed my garden and clean my shower, no problemo, if only I could raise the energy and/or motivation.

Re: JenjiOz (# 2250) Expand Referenced Message

Elevated Cholesterol, same here. I surmise that because the Prolia inflamed my body, my Cholesterol level was affected. My Dr. wants to put me on meds but I declined. Enough of meds! It seems like all Osteo drugs, regardless if classification have toxic properties. Check out: Save Our Bones, and the Better Bones Blog for info on diet, supplements and exercises. Also, check out Dr. Loren Fishman's study of Yoga for Osteo. He has a book and I think on YouTube. If you live near New York City, pay him a visit. If not, find out if there is an instructor in your area; perhaps you can enroll in his ongoing study of the efficacy of treating Osteo. with Yoga.

Be well

I have experienced jaw bone pain, which I never had before taking Prolia. I'm off it for good. Can't risk it.

Lynne Herndon (# 7) --

I have been on Prolia for about 3 years and I hate it. However since I have also been on Xarelto I am confused which side effects are worse. I managed to get my specialist to agree to take me off the Xarelto (DVT probs) and use Aspirin instead. It has been 3 weeks off the Xarelto and some of the probs have subsided a little but the aching jaw and thigh bones are almost unbearably painful. I have told my GP I want off the Prolia but he insists that I would be worse off . I am absolutely refusing to have another injection which is due in June. These guys wil not believe that our reported side effects have anything to do with these meds because they believe the pharmas who state certain side effects but don't research the patients who are reporting other possible effects. Now I think I have another DVT which may be confirmed or not when I visit a GP today so it's likely I will have to get back onto Xarelto. Honestly we can't win. I'm almost 79 (oh joy!)

Re: Sal (# 2251) Expand Referenced Message

Thanks, Sal. I am definitely considering yoga but my lethargy is causing a motivation problem. Same with weight-bearing exercise. An exercise physiologist has prescribed some gentle exercises for my back and neck. I wish I were near NYC, but perhaps not in the big freeze just now. The Australian summer is definitely exacerbating my itchiness. I'll check out YouTube and also see if there are specific yoga classes nearby.

Re: Poodle (# 2247) Expand Referenced Message

Seriously? Oh, my goodness! I had an exceptionally thorough eye examination and new glasses in March 2017, only a few weeks after my first Prolia shot. There were no unexpected findings back then.

Now I have cloudiness in one eye, most noticeable at night. I have generally assumed, probably like most people, that many of the changes I have noticed since beginning Prolia 9 months ago are attributable to ageing. I have never been this old (68) before. I don't have anything to compare it with, having been mostly healthy with only annoying (and sometimes debilitating) hay fever kinds of allergies and no really major issues. Until osteoporosis with a spinal fracture, that is. And Prolia.

Now it seems clear to me that most of this cluster of signs and symptoms that I can see and feel can be attributed to Prolia. Which leads me to wonder what other changes are going on 'behind the scenes'. Also, I don't want to know! Yep, massive denial and ambivalence.

Have your Calcium levels been checked? That was my first symptom of HypoCalcemia. Jaw and thigh pain are common side effects, and might not indicate HypoCalcemia, but then again they could. I continued with jaw and thigh pain long after the HypoCal resolved. Since HypoCal can be a serious complication, it is important to know your numbers.

Re: Marion (# 2254) Expand Referenced Message

I am changing doctors because mine wanted me to take another Prolia injection and when I refused, he got irritated. I lost all of my top teeth when they broke off at the gum line. I have always been to the dentist every 6 months. I still do not have my teeth after having implants in August. Maybe I will get them this month. It has been a nightmare and very expensive. 8 days after my Prolia, my hernia twisted and and went up in my esophagus and I almost died. I don’t think it is just a coincidence, I think it was Prolia. Never again. It is poison.

Re: JenjiOz (# 2255) Expand Referenced Message

Is there any color related to your cloudiness or is it just plain cloudiness? Have you been in now to have a look at the lens of the eye or eyes that this occurred in? Cataracts are known to be caused by Prolia and with me it seemed to happen really quickly rather than the normal slowly. It was almost like one day not there and the next there which is pretty much medically impossible but Prolia sure does the impossible with BAD side effects. It would be worth a look by your optometrist as s/he can shine in your eye and see the lens. If I remember well, eye is dilated for this so make sure you have a ride home and dark glasses or hide your face under a heavy scarf so the sun cannot get into your eyes. Please let us know what the results are. Be well~
