Prolia & Hair Loss (Page 19) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI've just recently had my second Prolia shot. So far so good...a little back pain. I continually have stress fractures on my feet and have also taken fosamax. My current problem is hair loss & I wondered if anyone else was having that problem?
Hi. in reply to your post. I am 77 years old and am now in my second year of Prolia twice yearly injections. In the last two months I have started shedding my hair which is very upsetting and it doesn't appear to be slowing down, I guess that I have lost at least half of my hair in two months, it is scary. I am told that there is no reversal treatment that doesn't have even worse side effects.
Re: Sandra (# 182)
You need to go to a Dermatologist so they can check your hair follicles. If they are open, they are capable of making new hair, but if they are closed shut, then no hair can ever grow there again. Prolia has been proven to cause A. Alopecia in a male whose DNA tested it to be impossible. I put up a list of three ingredients for you to take IF your hair follicles are open. This is something most of us have who have had even with one shot of Prolia. Be well~
Re: Barbra (# 5)
Did you stop the Prolia after the first injection? If so, did you experience the rebound effect, producing less bone density than before taking the Prolia? Also, have you experienced any spinal fractures since then? Many thanks for sharing and I hope that you are doing well.
Re: beasy (# 186)
Due for my next bone density test. Will let you know how it goes. Do have pain In several parts of my body, but not severe enough to take this horrible shot again.
Re: beasy (# 186)
I have told the hospital that I will not have another injection of Prolia .The side effects were too bad to continue. They have suggested Fosomax but I am nervous as there is also a long list of side effects. I am meeting with the Specialist and will inform him of the hair loss so that he can record it. I will need to have a bone scan in due course and will report back the findings. No fractures for one year now.
Re: Faye (# 180)
I have only had two Prolia injections (with terrible side effects), but my DEXA scan was improved greatly. Still not sure if the good outweighs the bad, but I guess I will continue it as long as I can.
Re: Emmy (# 193)
I also have been having a problem with my skin. I call them barnicales all over my arms and legs. I thought it was from my type 2 diabetes. I stopped al shots. I was supposed to have one this past May and I called the office and told them no, because of the hair loss, the reaction was as if I said the weather was great, none! I will never have another.
Re: myst (# 195)
No. Prolia and it's evil twin, Xgeva, only build up bone mass. They can leave a person who had the inj. able to get cancer by deleting many of our T-cells and T-cell helpers. This is exactly why so many of us get all kinds of infections while on Prolia. When our immune system is not functioning properly we can get everything going around, cancer and TB. I have been on this Forum for a long time now and we have only had two ladies with any type of cancer from Prolia. I know this does not solve the problem but it does answer your specific question. Be well~
I am on my second year getting Prolia injections. I always loose hair right after the injection but slows down after 4 months. I have to say so far I had no more fractures, so as long as it works for my bones I will keep using it.
Re: myst (# 195)
Verification: Prolia Hair loss possibly due to Prolia shots.
How do i get in on the litigation against Prolia? My Dr. keeps telling me I need it. I'm so miserable I don't have a life anymore from dealing with all the severe pain. I can't have another bone density scan for a year-and-a-half because of my insurance, so I don't know if it even is working for me!!
Re: Sunny1960 (# 201)
Foot fractures are not all that bad. Stay off of the foot and wear a surgical sandal or a boot. Heal in 6 weeks. I got news for your Dr. and your back. It is a proven fact that the spine breaks when quitting Prolia. You are doomed one way or the other. Have you tried any of the other drugs like Reclast, Boniva and Evista? Prolia is supposed to be the drug of LAST choice when all the previous have failed. Be well~
Black seed oil is good for all of this. You can order it on amazon and other websites.
Yes I have experienced hair loss, had to get hair cut in a way to help cover my scalp.I am now using a black power to cover the thinning spots on my head wher the hair is so thin.
Re: Sunny1960 (# 206)
Yes, the first two months my wife had severe inflammation in the ankles, knees, neck, collarbone area. It's been 7 months now, and inflammation is finally gone. Still has not recovered her taste, or sense of smell. Still pain in back, legs, arms, and shoulders. Still has Capillary bleeding in the forearms.
Re: Sunny1960 (# 206)
We just returned from a long flight from Hawaii. My feet and legs were so swollen I could barely walk. The pain was also awful. The swelling stayed for 5 days. One leg was very unstable and the pain in that leg lasted for 2 weeks. I always had some small swelling in the past few years, but nothing like this.
Re: Karen (# 208)
Prolia Hair loss and so much more thanks for replying the swelling has been going on for a month now.
I'm sorry you're suffering just like i am I hope your pain didn't interfere with your trip. God bless and happy holidays.
Re: Sad Lady (# 199)
Did you say you have some hearing problems from this? If so, what problems?
I have handfuls of hair falling out after 4th prolia. Finished prolia now, will my hair regrouped
Re: Anna (# 233)
I sympathize with every symptom you have as I have had the same, with extras such as terrible vertigo and peripheral neuropathy and have now been diagnosed with MGUS. I know it is due to the one Prolia shot. My hair is coming back slowly, lost it last August - November 2017, but it is very fine like fluff. I am told that after that normal hair will grow, but may take a year or two. I have decided to have nothing more although they recommended Fosomax but reading the side effects I do not even want to consider it. I am just taking care, eating well, taking additional Vit D and hope for the best. Nothing can be worse than the last 6 months of sheer misery and pain after 1 shot of Prolia. By the way, I bought myself three wigs, at a cost of course, but at least I can look normal again.
Yes. I took Fosamax which I could not tolerate so she gave me a Prolia shot. My hair is falling out in handfuls. I am distressed. If I don’t take another shot will my hair grow back? I am taking a ton of vitamins. Does anyone else have any suggestions to make my hair grow back?
