Taking penicillin 3 times a day ## Hello, Lorena! How are you? The key, according to the NIH, is to keep it in your system, at a steady level, but it doesn't have to be exactly precise. Thus, there is no need to set your alarm and take one in the middle of the night. One in the morning, when you get up should be fine, then one later in the day and the other at bedtime, unless your doctor states otherwise. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this antibiotic as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

That's not a listed side effect of this antibiotic, but it could be due to your body still fighting the infection that's being treated. Why did they wait to mix it with something once I made it to pick it up? Why couldn't it be mixed before I made it? ## Hello, Wondering! How are you? Because liquid medications don't last as long as other forms, such as tablets. They degrade much faster, so they have a very limited shelf life. Can i apply for RSS. I had this for months.penicillin cream.????? ## Hi jerry, What is it that you mean by applying for "RSS"? I'm sure you don't mean "Really Simple Syndication (RSS)" that websites use to feed headlines and news flashes, but I've never heard of the term/abbreviation being used in medical context... By the way, if your Penicillin cream really is "months old" and you're questioning whether it's still ok to take - an accurate answer would depend upon how it was stored, and whether it already expired. If that is the case and it is expired, then I think your best bet would probably be to get a new prescription, since older antibiotics (with less efficacy) may not fully eradicate a bacterial infection; potentially leading to antibi...

S 21 how long to clear up an infection? ## Hello, Rich! How are you? This tablet is manufactured by Dava Pharmaceuticals and they list it as containing 500mgs of Penicillin. The FDA classifies this medication as an antibiotic and lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. The general rule with antibiotics is that if it's working, you shouldn't see any worsening after taking it for a full 24 hours and you should start to see improvement after taking it for a full 3 days. However, the length of treatment may vary, depending on the infection being treated and its severity, so you should take it for the entire period of time that your doctor has told you to do so. the expiration date on the bottle is 9/2009. I have been bringing up yellow mucus, & I'm coughing a lot. Is it safe to take this medicine? ## Hi Ruth, The only potential problem I see with taking expired penicillin is not so much about the safety of the drug itself, but in terms of losing efficacy overtime, a less potent antibiotic inevitably creates a greater risk for developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. And for that reason alone I think it would probably be a good idea to invest in a fresher prescription that has retained more of its potency -(depending on what your storage conditions were like over the past 5 and half years). I hope this helps! Does anyone else have a different view from personal experience? I know some types of medications do retain potency for quite so...

Fifty years ago I was only slightly allergic to penicillin with rash on my butt. Currently, I've been sick with a bug going around for a week and a half now. Almost better except my gland hurts when I swallow and swollen and still slight congestion in my chest. I have 500 mg of Amoxil in my home. Is this okay to take this? It is the weekend and can't get to doctors and I do not want to pay the outrageous fee in urgent care. I also have another question. I have bottles of antibiotics that look the same as when I get a prescription that were for my Labrador dog. Are these the same as human drugs? My research says they are. ## Hello, Sharon! How are you? It should be safe, but there is a chance that you may be allergic to it, as well. However, there is also a chance that rash 50 ye...

im break out if I take penicillin and I was wondering if sulfa trimeth ds 800-160 have any penicillin bc the doctor give me some and I was just wondering if it have any before I take any ## Hi ash, Sulfamethoxazole + trimethoprim does not contain any penicillin; nor is it derived from penicillin. It's actually a sulfonamide. So as long as you aren't also allergic to sulfa drugs, there shouldn't be any problems in my opinion. Additionally, my thoughts are that if the doctor was already aware of your allergy to penicillin, he/she probably wouldn't make the mistake of prescribing something that was related to it. Although it is good that you took the time to check because mistakes do happen. I hope this helps!

Allergic to penicillin does Azitromicina contain any? ## Hi alton, Azithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. It does NOT contain any Penicillin, nor is it related to Penicillin. Azithromycin is actually a derivative of Erythromycin, so as long as you aren't allergic to Erythromycin as well, it seems to me that you shouldn't have any problems. Here is a study from The US National Library of Medicine for added validation, discussing the safety of Azithromycin in patients who have a known allergy to Penicillin: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8001336 I hope this helps!
