I have been on Ozempic now for 5 weeks. I started at the .25mg and after two weeks, upped it to the 0.5mg. I have never felt so dang good! I'm 53, post-meno, non-diabetic, 5'4", and SW was 264. My current weight, after just one month was down 19lbs! Now I'm down 21lbs! I'd love to finally be 165lbs or so again. I haven't been that small since I was about 11 years old. Ozempic has saved me! I can't believe it. I actually look forward to the injection every week. I only had nausea for a little bit the day after I started. And since, then, it's been great! No diarrhea, no nausea, just boundless energy. And not just that, but it's done something to my brain! I have this amazing sense of optimism, and positivity. I feel hopeful again! I feel like I AM going to finally lose this miserable weight. I don't have much hunger. This stuff makes me NOT want junk food! It's a damn miracle, I tell you! I WANT to eat healthy stuff now. How did this happen?! LOL! I crave lettuce and raw broccoli, and carrots, and good steak. I hardly eat any breads or biscuits, haven't had any cookies or cake. I did have one small tiny little container of Blue Bunny vanilla ice cream. The kind in the little 1/4 cup containers that you buy. I think they come 10 to a pack? Five vanilla, five chocolate... And I'm also snacking on healthy nuts. Walnuts, pecans, pumpkin seeds and pistachios. I am so happy!! Let the weight loss continue! The struggle before was real. And now, I feel euphoric and I just KNOW I'm finally going to be able to wear clothes out of the regular section of the store, not the damn plus sized 2X and 3X options!!
If you want to know what it does to your brain, look up research on increasing intracellular cAMP in the brain.
GLP-1s have had clinical trials for this effect as a second line medication for drug resistant anxiety and depression. For others not depressed or with anxiety, it may just be stimulating and have positive mood benefits. Even after factoring in psychological factors of weight loss and/or diabetes under control etc.
Note, cAMP has positive and negative effects on the brain at the same time. It is the net affect that people see which idiosyncratically can be the full spectrum from very positive to neutral to devastatingly negative. I think the negative response is the least often but can't be sure as drug companies are actively trying to hide the fact that it can do that.
I say "devastatingly" in the context of someone dependent on psychoactive drugs who all of a sudden have the signalling in their PFC shut down and can be even worse on the drugs than even what withdrawal would have been if they just stopped taking them (my experience). But, for people not dependent on psychoactive meds with the negative net effect, is "brain fog" and can choose to stop taking it.
Examples from those who are bi-polar. Some have been able to take less bi-polar meds while actually stopping their meds for comorbid anxiety and depression. Which is a massive benefit. Some had neutral effect. Those on the far negative spectrum, were hospitalized to rebalance neurotransmitters while under psychiatric observation. Which is the black box warning I predict in a decade or 2 when the FDA gets their head out of their.....
**If anyone has a very negative response, guanfacine may be able to turn it around and make it positive or at least neutral within a few days. Skipping the cAMP neurology and GLP-1 drug design lessons. Tested it on myself and reversed the negative effect to positive while still having positive benefit in other brain areas making it hugely net positive, after destroying my life already. But, things got real quirky from there but that is a whole other subject. Have been back on for 2 years and counting though.
Key takeaway, if response is cognitively intolerable or may be looking at potential hospitalization, and therapist doesn't see a contradiction for guanfacine. Then, maybe give it a try and potentially spare yourself having to go through it all or even in a hopeful case, avoid the hospitalization if on the far negative side with dependence on meds that would be devastating to be blocked or worse, below withdrawal level of activity. Won't work for everyone. 3 people I know tried the combo. Me (ADHD, SCT, Narcolepsy), most negative on GLP-1, yet most positive response with guanfacine added. Friend (ADHD, possible mild SCT) who was neutral on GLP-1, had significant benefit adding guanfacine, but not a huge benefit like myself. Other friend (ADHD, very likely SCT, anxiety) with less negative response, still had negative response adding guanfacine, but was able to manage it before giving up. He may try to titrate to see if there is an effective response range for him, after he finishes studies to become a doctor as not a good time in middle of studies to experiment.
Re: Pk (# 44)
This thread has nothing to do with politics or trump
Re: Pk (# 44)
people that aren't diabetics shouldn't be taken Ozempic
Re: DEE (# 50)
Have to talk with a DR about the skin!
Re: DEE (# 49)
If you had a lot of weight to lose of course one's skin will loosen up and skin get wrinkles, it's only logical
Re: Janean (# 9)
I'm so happy for you that you are getting good results with your blood sugar. Maybe try to be happy for those who feel they would never find a way out of their weight gain also.
Does anyone know of a medication for the skin issues from taking osympic.
I took ozempic for 5 weeks. The first week I was so constipated. Second week I started with nausea all day then I started having diarrhea it lasted for 5 weeks. It caused me to be dehydrated. My Dr. took me off of Ozempic. I had lost 44 lbs. About a week later I noticed the crepy and loose skin on my arms and neck and wrinkles on my face. I'm grateful for the weight loss but not for my skin issues.
Re: Happychick (# 3)
I have been on Ozempic 5 days and hungry all the time could you give me meal suggestions please?
Re: Lydia (# 16)
yes, it will slow down, do not get discouraged. I have been on it since July, I wanted to lose 1 pound a week, I figure that was safe. You are losing a lot at first, water weight, and have you ever lost weight before, your age could have something to do as well. Younger you are easier you lose. Once you start to get exercise and gain some muscle it will change. Just go with it. Find a good Salivation Army or Thrift store for your clothes, don't hang on to them. But your new clothes there as well, do not waste money till you make your goal, then don't go crazy, pants are the things I had to change size a lot, I had my brother put new holes in my belts. I bought pull on pants nothing fitted yet. My legs are very thin like chicken legs, so I need to get them toned up. I wanted to get to 160, I'm there, now I am going for 145, I have never been a size 10, I am just going into 12 I am happy to go to regular sizes BUT size 12 never has anything, everybody is size 12 I guess.
I am having sweet cravings, I am not a sweet eater, my thing was carbs. BREAD
I have a square of dark chocolate when I get the craving. I eat other things like roasted sweet potato and carrots, salads when I go out because I hate to make them. I started in in July and as of March 4th I am down 41 pounds. I was walking over 10k steps at work in a high school, substituting, that is not happening now. I have a gym membership, and I need to go for strength in arms, I used to be really strong and swimmer. My town is very small, no pool. But great walking, I just can't get motivated. Does anyone else crave chocolate or sweets?
I have an 8mg Ozempic pen but only need to take a 1mg dose. Can anyone tell me how many clicks on the pen I need to only administer the 1mg dose? Really appreciate any help with this question.
Re: Janean (# 9)
I think it’s disgusting that people use Ozempic for just weight loss. As it does affects the people who need it for diabetes. But people are selfish that’s why they voted for trump.birds of a feather so they say.
Re: Nicky Nub (# 34)
How did you burn 1000?
So glad to here your story.. it is usually all negative.. I am starting later this month and this gives me hope
Re: Nicky Nub (# 32)
Kickbacks to doctors have been really illegal for more than 20 years, I don’t know why you’re being abusive to people
Have you taken this medication and it destroyed your digestive system? Or are you just mad that women are able to lose weight easily? You seem angry. Are you OK?
Re: Nicky Nub (# 34)
I mean congratulations to you, but everyone is different. It’s not that simple especially with women with hormone issues after menopause.
I was on Ozempic for two years through my GP. I came off it in July 2023, due to shortages of the 1mg from my pharmacy, and my GP says the recommendations are that you should not be on it for more than two years. I had no issues while being on Ozempic, apart from initially getting used to the build-up of the doses. Now, for the past six months since coming off Ozempic, I have had intermittent diarrhea, cramps, and sometimes I go to the loo 5/6 times in an hour! Bowel investigations have shown diverticulitis. My GP has prescribed Mebeverine, three times a day before meals, and Buscopan for the cramps. I had none of these symptoms prior to commencing Ozempic. Is this a side effect after coming off it?
Re: Mary (# 27)
I think my insurance is going to stop paying for it. I still had to pay a lot and jump through hoops to get it approved. I hope I don't have to stop taking it but I cannot afford full price for sure.
